Just starting a new thread as we're starting to run out of room on the first. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1716486-December-2013#38680515

Never heard that about parsley and think it's probably bollocks tbh.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1119172-Argh-Just-read-that-parsely-is-not-good-in-pregancy-I-consumed-tons-of-the-stuff-in-first-trimester/AllOnOnePage

I grow all my own herbs and often chop fresh parsley and add it with lashings of real full fat butter to cooked veg. I'll still be doing that, it's certainly never caused any uterine contractions that I've noticed! If you added up all the advice out there and all the things you're not supposed to eat, I reckon you'd be living on bread and water for 9 months! Bad enough not having any booze, fags or pate for 9 months, never mind all this extra stress as well.

Midwife appointment tomorrow, very excited!

Cold's much better today, though that's a strictly relative term. Think I've actually pulled a couple of muscles in my back from sneezing so much yesterday! Had a relatively good night's sleep thanks to vicks inhaler, olbas oil infused tissues in my pillow case and vaseline smeared liberally all over my poor dried out lips and nose. Hot bath tonight I think. (not too hot! i don't cook myself like i used to!)

Not sure if this is a genuine craving or just a passing fancy but I'm obsessed with sweet potato mash at the mo. Could happily eat it every night.

Ridiculously excited about a trip to Nando's and the cinema on Saturday. This is as exciting as Saturday nights get now I suppose...

mumoftwoboysS · 09/05/2013 10:02

yeah you're probably right that it's bollocks- I just find it annoying that once you read this stuff it's yet another thing you think you should be avoiding. I certainly didn't avoid parsley, tumeric or any other herbs in my last two pregnancies.

btw- anyone else eating like a horse?? I know you're not supposed to eat more calories till 3rd trimester (another load of big brother nonsense to make us feel guilty). I've put on 4lbs already and I'm only 8 weeks! I've got a little pot belly but sure it's mostly bloating! I just find I'm eating constantly to keep the nausea at bay...

sweet pot mash-not a a bad craving at all- very good for you!

TakingTheStairs · 09/05/2013 10:11

Mumof2.... 4 lbs!! 4 lbs!!! I'd be delighted if I'd only put on four pounds!!
I'm 10+1 and I've put on 9lbs so far.
For the same reasons as you; non stop eating to keep nausea at bay. Screw it!
I'll happily take a few extra pounds rather than feeling like shit all day.

I've gained 7lbs.

Gooseysgirl · 09/05/2013 12:00

Had bloods taken at FMC this morning for Harmony Test and quick scan to check for heartbeat, thankfully all was well. Baby measuring 10 weeks which is about right for our dates.

Very sorry to hear your news Dutchy

Holly1977 · 09/05/2013 13:27

I read that you are meant to eat a bit more, 200 calories a day. It stands to reason you've got to eat a bit more, we're growing a bloody person in there! If you consumed the exact same number of calories as before, you'd lose loads of weight surely? I've gained about 3/4 lbs I think but my belly is noticeably bigger, I went up a size almost immediately. My colleague just commented on how big my boobs are! We're meant to put on weight, we're pg! As long as it's not too much too quickly I don't see the problem.

QueenofWhispers · 09/05/2013 13:47

how many calories do you think our bodies are expending during gestation?

i heard it was something like 3000 calories a day? I would be losing tonnes of weight if that was the case...so I don't think it's accurate. Anyone know?

Holly1977 · 09/05/2013 13:56

So apparently I read it wrong. No extra calories are required until the 3rd trimester, apparently.

www.nhs.uk/news/2010/July07/Pages/new-nice-guidelines-weight-pregnancy.aspx

I'm going to go ahead and call bollocks on that. How can you grow a person with no extra calories?!! Anyway, I've lost loads of calories through not drinking so I reckon I'm entitled to a couple of extra pies! ;-) I am actually eating really healthily though, seems to be what my body wants. I think as long as your BMI remains within the healthy range, you're fine. Let's not give ourselves yet another bloody thing to stress about!

mumoftwoboysS · 09/05/2013 14:21

yeah I don't get that we're not supposed to eat more till 3rd tri either. If we naturally feel more hungry then surely we shouldn't ignore that!

I'm not worried as my BMI is borderline healthy- just over the underweight mark so I'm welcoming the extra pounds (I'll actually have boobs for once!!)

And like you say Holly- as long as BMI is healthy. I say eat! (she says tucking into a babybel.... and waiting for some yummy flapjacks to come out of the oven!...)

froubylou · 09/05/2013 15:19

Im 7+2 and permanently starving but have lost 2lbs mainly due to no beer.

Though I seem to be constantly eating when I actually add up the cals it still only about 2000 on average. My df commented this morning that if you ignore my huge boobs and cement belly I actually look slimmer.

And speaking of boobies my word my girls are bloody huge. Was a big girl anyway 36e or f but just bedn and bought more non wired non sexy non cleavage monstrosities. In a 40g!

Ffs. Was the biggest size. Owt bigger is special big boob shops instead of debenhams. AND they had some beautiful fantasie sets in my size. AND had to ignore them because wires are driving me mad.

And repeating myself it seems. Lol.

yogafan · 09/05/2013 16:10

I've just been for my booking in appointment - I've put on half a stone! And the midwife agreed I look at least a month more preg than i actually am (9 weeks) - I have a very pronounced pot belly, there's no disguising it. Was kind of hoping she'd send me for an early scan to check, but no luck. I'm pretty sure of my dates anyway, but would have jumped at the chance of a scan...

QuietNinjaTardis · 09/05/2013 16:21

I'm sorry dutchy, I hope you are ok x

I don't think I've put weight on yet but I am still being sick several times a day and can only eat certain things anyway. My tummy is definitely starting to poke out a bit. I really cannot be arsed to care. I'm just really hoping the sickness eases soon as I am fed up with being useless.

QueenofWhispers · 09/05/2013 19:30

mil just visited and is upset with me for the garden+dog and dog poo in garden and has said i look 'extra puffy'...

hiding in bed till the visit is over. :(

weechops · 09/05/2013 19:41

Queen what a nasty cow she sounds! You're probably doing the best thing staying out her road so you don't get stressed. Hope she leaves soon for you :) hang in there!

yogafan · 09/05/2013 20:24

Yes, stay away! Don't let her stress you. If she minds the poo so much she could help out and clear it herself!

LittleBells · 09/05/2013 20:40

Sorry to hear your news dutchy x

LittleBells · 09/05/2013 20:47

I won't have my booking in appointment until I'm touching 12 weeks! Shock this is despite going to the doctors at 6 weeks! Everything takes so long. I will only be able to make a scan appointment once I've had the booking in too. Well Envy of ladies with scans! Wink

I am lurching between eating healthily and eating really badly ie sweeties and cakes. Although I feel puffy, and my tummy is getting quite hard to disguise, there's a distinct bump shape forming already! It must be true that second babies make bumps pop out sooner!

5ammy · 09/05/2013 21:16

Hey ladies,

Sorry to those suffering :-(

Is anyone excercising? I like running, but husband Is really nervous about me going out 'and jiggling baby around'. I've just seen yoga classes advertised in the village - is this ok to start whilst pregnant? Anyone know?

Sam

QuietNinjaTardis · 09/05/2013 21:39

If you already run then I think its ok to Carry on 5ammy but don't start a new high impact exercise when you're pregnant. I think you should check that the yoga class is suitable for pregnant ladies and if not then I'm sure you could find a class that is.
I have done zero exercise because I can barely move without wanting to throw up so whatever you do you're doing better than me.

mumoftwoboysS · 09/05/2013 22:08

5ammy you could see if there's any pregnancy yoga in your area? I don't think a yoga teacher will accept you if they only do regular yoga as they have to be certified for pregnancy. I do pilates regularly and my pilates instructor seemed a bit reluctant for me to carry on in her class as she'd have to bring loads of extra stuff (like a wedge so I'm not flat on my back) and she has a busy class. Not sure if I'll continue or do it at home (I've got a pilates in pregnancy book) Run if you've been running previously to pregnancy- you can do it as long as you feel comfortable I think.

I'm going to keep swimming and cycling (when I stop feeling sick!)

5ammy · 09/05/2013 22:20

Thanks guys!

Before I realised I was pregnant running helped with nausea. Now my husband gets all agitated when I suggest going for a run - think he thinks it'll cause some damage.

Will keep away from yoga class as the chances are I'll know people there and don't want to share my news yet.

Sam

QueenofWhispers · 10/05/2013 00:29

I run! running is fine as long as you do it only until it stops being comfortable. (that's what my doctor told me).

yogafan · 10/05/2013 06:46

Most pregnancy yoga classes won't let you join until you've reached 12 weeks. If you're feeling full of energy you might want to do a regular class for a bit (again, after 12 weeks) - some teachers are fine with this, others not. Pregnancy yoga can be quite slow, which is great when you're feeling knackered or are huge, but if you are glowing with energy to spare you might want something more energetic. Also, some preg classes focus in birth preparation, which probably feels miles away. If you already run, it sounds fine to continue. Hope that helps!
