oh NJ hope your panic is over and you've calmed down now. it can be hard to get hold of someone, i tried to call to cancel an appointment a couple of weeks ago and got pushed from pillar to post and ended up where i started! bloody NHS!

as for mw care, it must be hard and you generally do have to ask the right questions, i think they forget that we dont see pg day in day out for 17 years like most of them!

as for my mw iv had booking in which she tried to find babies heartbeat and failed (my baby likes to hide) and took blood pressure but that was it. didnt weigh me, didnt do urine (coz i forgot the specimine) and that was it really. had my 12 week scan, got 20 week scan soon and then will have mw appointment at 28 weeks, after that only once a month till 36 weeks then every 2 weeks. i got given an info sheet when i was booked in and will follow that, i get less tho this being 2nd baby.

hope everyone ok! eeyoreuk hope you had a great time!

Yes panic is over, but I have had a really bad headache all day, which I think is just all the worry and crying and relief and everything else!! I think the strangest thing about it is that I didn't think that I had really grasped the idea of there being a baby this time, and had even admitted that I didn't feel anywhere near as much for this baby as I did at the same point in my last pregnancy, but today has turned all of that on its head!! I really have realised just how real it all is, and how lucky we are to be in this situation.

Sorry gone on again haven't I?!!!

mygirllolipop · 15/06/2006 21:10

I haven’t bought anything at all for the baby. Will buy the pushchair after scan as well as a bed for DD3 (which maybe a bunk bed depending on DB4’s flavour!).
NJ – I know what you mean about finding the PMs have already relaxed when you think you are keeping them up! About the labour you may find you do get this baby out pretty quick. The second stage of labour took 11mins for DD1,16mins for DD2 and DD3. So you may be pleasantly surprised.
Kif – I’ve had Jan, Jun and April babies and don’t think one hwas more prone to colds than the other, although BFing helped!
FB – I love all these old wives tales about the sex of the baby. It amazes me that out of 23 pairs of chromosomes just one of one pair changes the mothers pulse and the way she carries the bump and her hair and nails! Will be interesting to see if she’s right but then again 50/50 chance!
Saralou – I went to ACs with DD and they cover stages of labour, pain relief, exercises, a tour of the hosp, and a bit about newborns IIRC – was 8 yrs ago tho!
Delia – I think they tend to write a BP out with you after 30wks. But there’s no harm in you thinking over what you would like. Some of the baby mage have a prompt to help you write a BP.

Hi all... havent had a chance to catch up on recent messages.. will do later. For those of you who are feeling babe move a lot, what sort of movement is it? Mine is still not very strong and its more of a churning type feeling.. someone described it as a washing machine! I get occasional 'limb' feelings, but they're not that strong... I'm 19 weeks...

OP posts:
CattyB · 16/06/2006 09:14

No rocking debate then... Grin but I think it may be worth remembering that we are healthy women who are pg not ill and not going through something new!! Weekly visits may be reassuring but you would never go and see the dr every week to make sure you were ok during any other period of your life unless you were really ill. Remember your body is an amazing thing capable of doing the incredible.

NJ - I'm so pleased things are ok - its easy to get yourself in a panic - and although you might be embrassed its always best to go with your instincts.

Spinach - I'm 21 weeks today and it's only been the last day that I've really felt bigger movements - before that it was the occassional wriggle but nothing solid. This morning I was able to put my hand on the bump and feel proper movement.

Kif - dS2 was a december baby and he had a cold by the time he 2 weeks old depsite being breast feed and dS3 had one within 4 weeks - the joys of having siblings as opposed to the time of the year I think.

Personally I've seen the mw twice - once for bloods, weight, height and history at 12 weeks and then again last week to go over the plan for my homebirth and listen to the baby. Not been to the hospital or had any scans and perfectly happy with that. Plan to see her again @ 26 weeks. I've sent off urine to the lab at 12 weeks but have never had my wee dipped either but then my blood pressure is fine (raised bp and protein in the urine are signs of pre-eclampsia).

It's dS3's 1st birthday today - I can't believe how quickly the year has flown by or that last year at this time I was depserately hoping that today would be the day (he was due the 1st). Eventually contractions started about 1 o'clock and he was born just after 6. 2nd stage lasted for about 3 pushes as it had with dS2 (so no longer than 5 minutes). DS1 was in a bad position and 2nd stage lasted about 2 hours but not all actively pushing - I was out in the close Blush going up and down the stairs sidewards trying to get him in a better position - just as well no one was trying to get in. Better stop my ramblings and go, bake a cake!

Love to you all x

HopingCat · 16/06/2006 09:21

NJ - hope you are feeling a bit calmer now. It must have been frightening for you.

Spinach - I'm feeling baby move now at 19+5 weeks, but it's a very light feeling and could easily be mistaken for indigestion if it didn't happen every day and at different times of day. I can only feel baby if I'm sat very still or lying down though. Last week I wasn't so sure it was baby and week before I couldn't feel anything, but this week it's more like tiny kicks, while last week was an infrequent fluttery feeling. By next week I imagine I'll be able to feel baby even if I'm not sitting still.

I think that you'll probably spend a week wondering if you are feeling baby, and then a week realising that it was baby all along. I'd describe it as bubbles bursting against the inside of my belly, but different people experience different things.

When I had scan I realised just how much the baby was moving without me noticing it. I just thought I was having an inactive baby, but it's just that he or she isn't hitting me hard enough yet.

Sorry for long post. I never can write a short post can I!

twocatsonthebed · 16/06/2006 09:56

Hello everyone,

Had my 20 week scan yesterday, and everything well and good - I didn't realise that I was worried about it until it was over, but in fact I haven't been sleeping properly all week... We've decided to get a surprise on the day, so don't know what flavour it will be.

I've been feeling twitches and flutters for a couple of weeks too - although like Hopingcat said, only when I sit down and think about it. A friend of mine described them as being like those fortune telling fish you get in crackers, that flip about on your hand, and that's just right.

Although, given how much the lo was wriggling at the scan, I'm surprised I can't feel it all the time. It's clearly going to take after me (diagnosed hyperactive as a child, never slept). Can't wait.

NJ - hope you're feeling better now, but it's got to be better to check - and I bet the midwives didn't mind in the slightest.

And so far I have bought precisely nothing for the baby (apart from an amazing 1930s poster for the nursery wall, which is clearly a practical essential!) I'm getting a lot of stuff from friends, but even so, I suppose I'd better start getting my act together at some point soon...

mygirllolipop · 16/06/2006 10:43

Sorry for the 3 posts last night, comp was being slow!
Spinach – I’m 19wks 2moro acc to hosp and DH said he could feel baby last night. It’s getting stronger than the washing machine feeling and changes wkly! It’s v hard to describe the feelings this early on isn’t it?
Catty – well put about not seeing Dr every wk and just trusting yr own body. I’m happy to be left in peace by the MWs TBH! Although like 2cats said the fortune fish is a good one!

MeAndMyBoy · 16/06/2006 14:06

I'm off for my 20wk scan in about an hour. Have to say that I'm feeling very definate kicks and at regular times as well, been up a couple of times in the night for different reasons over several nights and the baby is in about a 4 hour routine - hope it stays like that - but bet it doesn't Smile.

DS was 3 yesterday which I really can't believe it's just flown by.

anyhow we're off camping tonight but will drop in later and let you know how the scan goes - if DH and MIL arrive anytime soon.

NJ glad you know everything is ok, but yes it's very scarey - had a similar situation when i pg with DS at 21wks - suddenly realised that I hadnt' felt him move at all and got very scared, before that I wouldnt have said that I had any feelings about him as a person at all - as soon as there is any hint that there maybe something wrong it's amazing how protective you get.

I'll catch up properly when we get back from camping - take care all and hope you're not too hot.

H x

Tinasan · 16/06/2006 15:06

Hi everyone,
Had 20 week scan today - all good and it's a girl! The minx had her head right down in my pelvis and her bum in the air for the first 30 mins so we had to go back into the waiting room and give it another 30 mins in the hope that she'd move. Luckily she did so we got some great 4D photos! TwoCats, I know what you mean, I was very nervous immediately before I went in, and feel very relieved now it's over! As for feeling movement, for me it started at 16 weeks which seems to be quite early, it was flutter at first but it's now definite kicks - also the dr at the scan said she is very active so I'd be feeling her move more than average. However DH hasn't felt anything yet - whenever he comes near she stops moving!
Have a good weekend all,
Tinasan

mygirllolipop · 16/06/2006 15:59

tina - congrats on a scan gone well.
mamb - hopefully you too! have fun camping.

HopingCat · 16/06/2006 16:30

Congratulations Tinasan on your little girl! You must be the first person on here to know what you are having.

I wonder if there will be more boys or girls on here. The due in October thread seems to be mostly boys so maybe we'll get the girls Smile

saralou100 · 16/06/2006 18:50

Kif · 16/06/2006 22:17

My scan is not for a couple of weeks, but we've got it very strongly into our head it's a boy...

Had my first (!) MW appointment today. All seemed good - apart from she forgot to give me my MatB1 - and said I should have consultant led care due to high blood pressure with Dd1.Seems over cautious to me

I'm browsing car seats and pushchairs on Kiddicare.com! Starting to get excited.

DebbsyandBibby · 17/06/2006 09:15

mygirllolipop · 17/06/2006 14:20

Kif- that doesn sound over cautious but maybe you would get too few appointments if you didn't see a consultant. You may find he discharges you after the first appointment anyway!

podglet · 18/06/2006 17:40

Hi all - quick catch up after a weekend at FIL's - had a fab time and have seen the pram and all the other bits he has bought - the pram is not a Loola like I wanted but a Britax Italian Collection - does anyone know anything about these? It is pretty similar to the Loola but less heavy which is good. I was disappointed at first as I did really want the Loola but this one is really just as nice.

Debbsy - the carrot cake was YUM (if I say so myself!)

Tinasan - congrats on your little girl - you can start buying lots of pink now! :o

Saralou - well done to your DS, you must be really chuffed :)

Hope everyone is ok and not melting in the heat - I discovered H & M mat range yesterday and now have 2 x lovely floaty dresses that are really cool - much better than mat jeans!

spinach · 18/06/2006 19:49

agree podglet, H&M range is nice.. have bought three skirts, several tops... all very comfy.

Well, after asking you all about baby moving, mine hasnt stopped since! before the weekend, it was quite light, and mainly just rumblings/hurning... now there is definate limb movements! My dd woke the baby up this morning by shouting next to my belly... baby jumped and kicked around for ages after that... can even see the outside of my belly move now.... so feel reassured.

Tinasan, how lovely a girl! I still can't decide whether to find out the sex, have a scan in 3 weeks and really want to resist asking. I'll be 23 weeks bythen so it ought to be easy to tell too. If i can come uip with a boys name i dont need to find out. Help.!!!

harrogatemum · 18/06/2006 20:07
