NatalieJane · 14/06/2006 09:20

Morning everyone :)

Did we ever decide that it is OK to be getting BH this early on? (I am nearly 17 weeks) It is just that in the mornings I get a feeling, it isn't a pain but it feels like pressure, and my stomach does go hard, but it sort of goes again before I can work out what it is, it only happens in the mornings, and almost at exactly the same time every morning, I didn't get BH with DS, or if I did, I didn't know I did!!

Hope everyone is well, and is as thouroughly fed up of the football as I am, even the shopping isn't doing anything for me anymore!! Can't beieve we have another 4 and a half weeks of this!!

Esmummy · 14/06/2006 11:33

QUICK QUESTION - Can't remember what I did last time but think I had to ring my local hospital to find out about Ante Natal Classes. Is this right ?
Only ask because I am not seeing my midwife until 24 weeks now and don't want to leave too late in case i miss out as I didn't go to my classes last time.
Do you think the hospital would be peefved if i called them this early (am 17 + 1)

Bethbe · 14/06/2006 11:48

Esmummy, I am 17+3 today but have the same EDD as you. How does that work?

LadyAnn, I have that teeth thing. Really difficult. In addition, I'm not sure whether we're supposed to be doing those pelvic floor excercises yet, - but when I try it's like nails scratching down a blackboard and I just can't do it! Anyone else have a similar feeling - or is it just me?

Esmummy · 14/06/2006 11:55

Don't know Bethbe but 21st November is definitely a Tuesday so i go by every Tuesday as being the week mark.
Midwife said by originaly EDD got changed from 19th Nov to 21st Nov even though I was still as far as long as I thought I was, because Frbruary only has 28 days. Confused me but I'm just going with it, got soooo pissed off with every changing my EDD last time i'm just going by the scan date

mygirllolipop · 14/06/2006 12:27

NJ- I think I am having BH although didn't realise what they were last three times, and obv not strong as I am only 18+2. but it's weird that they happen same time everyday. Could it be your bladder being full? I know I get that every morning it pushes the bump all oevr the place.
Emsmummy - my MW always arranged my classes but they wouldn't be peeved if you rang them and asked what's what.
Bethbe - you can do pelvic floor whenever even if you are not pg, the better you are at them the easier labour should be so get practicing! About the date would have thought you were 17+1. If you think of it as you will be 40 wks on 21st, count backwards every Tue it means yesterday you were 17wks so today is 17+1. HTH.

Off to eat dinner and then GymBabes.

Bethbe · 14/06/2006 12:33

How confusing!

So they can keep changing your EDD date then, according to whims and oppinions? Well if it's that abritary, how will they know whether it's late or not?

Really worried about them getting it wrong and then forcing baby out! My EDD is 19th according to my scan (and the conception date). No-one said anything about 28 days in Feb.

It seems from the postings here and the regular change of the stats, that at your 20 week scan they could well change the EDD again.

Is this a test?

HopingCat · 14/06/2006 13:26

Bethbe - After my scan yesterday I was given all my hospital/midwife notes back to take to all appointments with me. The date originally put on this by mw was 4th Nov based on my lmp. My 12 week scan suggested this date should be moved but they did not move it. Now I've had my 20 week scan the date is now officially 6th Nov and it won't move again now. It is this date that will be used to calculate when I should have all future mw appointments, whether I am overdue etc It could perhaps have been the 28 days in Feb thing that meant I got a different edd at my first scan.

Esmummy - I was given a form by mw at booking in appointment to fill in and send to hospital to arrange my ante-natel classes. I sent it off, and have been given classes in October. If I have an early baby I'll miss at least one of the classes, and both me and my sister were born over 2 weeks early! So however early you apply for these courses it seems you just have to attend whenever you are told anyway!

HopingCat · 14/06/2006 13:31

I've got a question of my own now. I really want to go out any buy baby clothes, but don't know what to get. What will a newborn baby born in November need to wear in the first hours of it's life? As we don't know if it's a boy or girl I want to buy cream/neutral coloured clothes for the first couple of days, but will be sending dh to the shops to buy pink or blue things as soon as I can. I therefore don't want to buy too much before baby is born, so want to buy the right things. For example, will baby need a shortsleeved vest underneath a long sleeved sleepsuit even if hospital is hot? Will I need anything else? I don't know where to start!

Esmummy · 14/06/2006 13:47

Well I rang and am now all booked in. Start 11th August when I will be 25+3.
Am quite excited as I didn't go last time

Kif · 14/06/2006 13:58

Regarding baby clother:

Best to have vest and sleep suit I think - layers let you control the temperature. My personal top tip ( that i wish I had thought of before my first is to get the type of vests that don't go over the head, but button up down the front 'envelope style'. vertbaudet do some. Newborns are teriibly wobbly, especially around the head and neck. You/your DP will probably want the simplest possible clothes!

I'd bring 2-3 vest, and 2-3 sleepsuits. You can always 'dress them up' at a later date with the appropriate colour cardigan - can't have too many of the basics IMO.

Also bring a cardigan in case it is chilly. A shawl and a hat to carry out to the car in.

Kif · 14/06/2006 14:10

Further regarding baby clothes - for family harmony I advise you to have very low expectations of your DPs common sense and energy post labour.

Suggest you point out the kind of clothes you want him to buy before hand (shop, style and, most importantly, size). 0-3 is too big for all but the biggest babies. Below that there is newborn and 'tiny baby' measured by weight.

HopingCat · 14/06/2006 14:23

Thank you for the advice Smile
I'm glad you pointed out that DH may not know what size clothes to buy. I've pointed styles out to him but have never told him what size to get!

saralou100 · 14/06/2006 15:14

hi guys... haven't been here in a while and theirs masses to catch up on!!! i've been a bit down in the dumps recently, these damn hormones are doing all kinds of strange things to me.. i'll cry if someones nice, i'll cry if someones mean, i'll cry if i'm happy and i'll cry if i'm sad.. in short i cry a lot!!! i'm a wreck!!

re the clothes, i found that ds spent the 1st couple of weeks living in sleepsuits and vests (he's a winter bubby), and that lots of people will buy you clothes in the appropriate colour.. also the ladies in mothercare are very helpful with new daddy's!!!

someone was mentioning about pelvic floor exercises... as a gynae nurse, i cannot emphasise the importance of these enough!! i wouldn't have half the workload i do if women were better at doing these!! these are something we should do wether pregnant or not... i have terrible hayfever at the moment and every time i sneeze my pelvic floor muscle is being tested so at every opprtunity i'm squeezing away!! perhaps if it's hurting it's because your technique isn't right, your madwife can advise you on this!! don't want to sound patronising here so appologies if i do, but i so believe in their importance and theirs very little education on them given to women!!

i haven't really got any shopping to do for this one, have everything already, just need a new pushchair (or should i say want!!) am desperately hoping that i won't need a double buggy but i think this is unrealistic, ds is almost 16 months now and still not walking, no matter how hard i try!! he'll be 21 months in nov and i really do hope he's walking by then but my friend has said her son won't walk as far as she'd like him too so double one is a necessity... i'm gonna live in my bubble a bit longer though!!

saralou100 · 14/06/2006 15:16

oh, and i'm just loving the world cup!!! love it love it love it!!!! just wish i could do it properly, down the pub with a beer in hand!!

Kif · 14/06/2006 15:21

Sarahlou - I was doing pelvic floors really enthsuastically two weeks ago. Then I had some unexplained bleeding - and I haven't dared to any more since in case the two were connected. I throught I might have 'knocked' or 'stretched' something. Is that unlikely?

I def regret not doing more before pregnancy tho'!

World Cup - Radio 5 Live is my saviour. I can keep up with the matches without Junior asking for 'Beebies'.

mygirllolipop · 14/06/2006 15:51

Bethbe and emsummy - health professionals count 40 weeks from first day of last period to get EDD (regardless of cycle length which is silly IMO and IME), it's nothing to do with '9 months' as we think of it although I hear in France it is actual months they count rather than weeks. At scans they measure baby and decide how many weeks they think you are and change it, personally I think if the scan is only a few days out there's no point as baby will come when it comes, and if they move you forward it's just more anxiety at the end when you go ove rthat date!
Saralou - are there not any other options re pucshchairs eg buggy board? I don't think I'll get away with it as DD3 will be 19m when DB4 is born, but I have chosen which pushchair I want!
Re clothing for newborns in winter: DD1 was a winter baby (Jan) but for all of them (even DD2 a June baby) they wore a vest and sleepsuit. TBH they never really had 'day' clothes for a few months only wore them for photos! Whoever said about the style of vest was right too! As well as whoever said about dad's not being v clued up about what you want plus you will need him at home. Hospitals normally give you a list of things to take, also the Mothercare catalouge and baby magazines normally have a list of things you will need in labour, post labour, for baby and for going home. HTH

NatalieJane · 14/06/2006 16:02

Afternoon :)

I am going to try and remember about the tightening in the morning before it actually happens then I might be able to work out exactly what is tightening IYKWIM?!! It isn't what I would call pain, not even uncomfortable, it is just a feeling.

I am in the same boat as some of you, I am not really sure what the baby should be wearing, my DS was a proper summer baby! I have bought a few unisex things things like plain white sleep suits, vests, a couple of cardi's, etc. and I have bought a couple of outfits that are like a velour trouser and almost jacket style tops, and a couple of snow suits because the baby will be out in the cold weather morning and afternoon for the school run every day!

Sorry for going on, I am poorly so doing anything to take my mind off it! LOL

saralou100 · 14/06/2006 16:06

kif, unlikely to have caused your bleeding as you should be working your vaginal wall muscles however you can also over work these muscles, you should be aiming to do 10 short squeezes and 10 long squeezes (holding for no more than 10 seconds) once or twice a day!!! bleeding can happen for so many reasons it's sometimes very hard to explain why :o i love these conversations

Kif · 14/06/2006 16:09

I'm too supersticious to buy anything for bump...

NatalieJane · 14/06/2006 16:09

Am I the only one that starts off with good intentions and pull all my muscles in, count to 10 and then go to let my muscles go and realise that they had already gone on their own?

How exactly does it effect the birth anyway?

Kif · 14/06/2006 16:10

Perhaps I'll feel better bout shopping after the second scan. It still feels unreal to me.
