Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi, so finally my very overdue baby boy arrived on Monday night. Went in to be induced Friday and had to have emergency C Section in the end on Monday evening. Will probably stay in hospital for another 3 or 4 days, but slowly getting the feeling back in all areas! Congratulations to everyone who have had their babies and loads of luck to those who are waiting. Oh and I was really worried sick by the sonographer telling us our baby would be huge and at least 10lbs, he was a healthy but smaller 7lbs 11!

shelly81 · 22/05/2013 07:35

Awww congratulationss betsy xx

LittleSpade · 22/05/2013 07:55

Hi all

A long overdue update from me since my last post late on Sat night on page 34 of this thread...

I eventually got moved from the antenatal ward to the delivery ward about 9am Sun morning. It was a long night but in hindsight I really needed the little sleep I did get. On the delivery ward they started the drip for induction and after about 5 hrs I'd finally progressed to 4cm. The midwife was amazing as was DH but I needed lots of reminding to breathe slowly through the contractions especially when breathing in. As they intensified the drip and mu contractions I became simply too tired to deal with the pain on the gas and air alone and tried pethidine. This didn't work for me at all though I just felt sick and dizzy whilst still experiencing the dame/similar contraction pain. I quickly decided an epidural was the only option.

They put this in amazing quickly, smoothly and painlessly which was great given how worried I'd been about one in advance. The effect was amazing and I could finally rest at least between contractions which I could still feel a bit. However as they increased the drip further baby got distressed with a drop in heartbeat with each contraction indicating possible constriction by the cord. After monitoring this for a while they decided an emergency c-section was needed. This all then happened extremely quickly which I found very overwhelming. Bad became worse as I don't think the epidural was increased properly fir theatre and I found the pain/sensations too intense and had to be put under general anaesthetic for them to finish the procedure. This also scared DH has he had to take our brand new baby and leave me in theatre.

Anyway I can report that baby Amy was born about 9pm on Sun evening weighing 7lb 12oz. Still a little suprised we have a girl as despite not knowing most people had thought from my bump/pregnancy that I'd have a boy.

lollypopsicle · 22/05/2013 08:13

Oh little your post has made me a bit teary spot the hormonal, heavily pregnant lady sounds like you coped amazingly well with the whole thing. Really glad that you and Amy are well. I also think it's really difficult for men to see someone they love go through such an ordeal while feeling completely helpless so hope he's recovered too. Enjoy your lovely newborn snuggles Thanks

TigerSwallowTail · 22/05/2013 09:31

Congratulations little, it must have been very scary at the time but it was all worth it in the end Smile.

I'm 40 weeks today, please send me lots of painful crampy vibes in the hope that my contractions start!

DXBMermaid · 22/05/2013 10:53

Little congratulations on the end result of that ordeal. Am very glad that all is well with you and Amy, but what a ride it must have been for both you and your DH.

Tiger am 40 weeks today as well. Sitting here with a steaming mug of RLT and eating homemade pineapple sorbet. Was talking to a friend this morning who is a retired midwife and she recommended nipple stimulation. She said ripening of the uterus and milk production starting go hand in hand and massaging your breasts can really help with that. Reminder to self to draw the curtains before I give it go Wink

babygeek · 22/05/2013 10:56

Betsy and little, sounds like you both had quite a rough time of it. You must be so happy to have a lovely squishy baby in your arms now, congrats. Hope the recovery process goes well.
It can be tough for the birth partners too, to see someone they love go through such an intense experience. Thanks for sharing the birth stories. It definitely helps me and DP manage our expectations of what might or might not go to plan.

Officially 41 weeks today! Come on baby! Smile

babygeek · 22/05/2013 11:02

Thanks DXB for the nipple tip Grin
Might have to give it a go myself today.
Thought my waters might have started to go last night but turns out I just really needed the loo and slightly lost control of my bladder function. Oh, the indignity!! Confused

DXBMermaid · 22/05/2013 11:14

Just don't do it for too long. Do one boob for 5 min and then wait for 15 min to see what happens. You can use your hands or get your partner or other child to suckle on you.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 22/05/2013 13:13

Little congrats, another Sunday baby :) glad it all worked out, sounds scary but all worth it!

Betsy, glad it all worked out ok in the end and you're
Doing well, rest up x

scooby26 · 22/05/2013 14:46

Congrats Betsy and Little

Still nothing here.... 39w5d- off to
Midwife appt.... Hopefully this time I'll b able to pin her down re what happens once overdue.... She's been v vague....(useless) as always so far! I just at least want to know the end game Plan if I have to use it so I can get my head round it!

scooby26 · 22/05/2013 16:18

Apparant I get offerred a sweep at 41w (exactly) at home
And then they send me for induction at 42w( exactly) I have indicated I will refuse induction after my experience last time ( happy for c sec ) so they have reluctantly made me a consultant Appt to discuss 3rd
June - 41w 3d...

I am happy to have. Sweep just not with her so I'll ring her office next week and discuss it with another
Midwife when I have still inevitably not had this child!

BeauticianNotMagician · 22/05/2013 17:50

Congrats Betsy and Little.

BIRTH STORY its a nice one

I went for a walk on Friday evening and had a hot habenero sauce with dinner on Saturday so not sure if they helped.

Anyway on Sat evening I stayed up watching a film as I had been grumpy all day. Finally went to bed at midnight. Woke at 2 .30 am with pains thinking oh no typical BHs when Ive gone to bed late ill get no sleep now. They kept coming so I used my app to time them. They were every 7 mins lasting about 45 secs. 4.30 am DP asked if I still had pains. I thought he had been asleep. I told him I didn't want to get his hopes up and pretty sure just BH. 6am finally decided to get up and load the car. I had a shower and put the washing on. By 8am I let DP convince me to take boys to MIL and call hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 9am. In the car park my contractions slowed so I was convinced I would be sent straight home. I went to the loo to do a sample and had my show.

We were shown into a birthing room and I said to DP oh it is labour Ive had a show ( this is my third Shock). The MW examined me and I was 2cm with the baby's head facing sideways. She said I would likely be sent home but she would examine me in 4 hours. I apologised to DP when she left and said to him 'told you it would be another long one'. Fast forward two seconds later and my contractions ramped up all of a sudden. The pain was so intense I couldn't speak and no position was comfy. The contractions were coming two minutes apart. DP got the midwife and she ran me a bath. It was freezing. I screamed whilst in there and she came in and said my goodness why all the noise. I felt like a silly little girl and asked for an epidural to which she replied I would have to wait for examination. We got back to the room and I had some gas and air. I don't personally find it pain relief but it gives me something to focus on and I like to bite the tube. I had a strong urge to push and I was on my knees with my arms over the back of the propped up bed. The MW must of seen me trying to push and told me off. DP was amazing stroking my hair, rubbing my back, applying lip balm, giving me water. He demanded I be re examined and surprise I was fully dilated. I pushed for an hour and a half. I have never experienced pushing in full before due to epidurals. I can honestly say it felt amazing Shock. It's just such a release to have somewhere to focus the pain and that feeling of knowing each push is a step closer to seeing baby. I even would go so far as to say I liked the sting of the head crowning as I knew I would see the baby. Teddy arrived at 14.17pm and was and is 7lb 3oz of gorgeous.

My placenta took 30 mins to deliver and was unfortunately the most painful part. It got stuck and I was made to sit in an awful position with legs pinned back which I think has caused me some damage to my back having suffered SPD.

We went home at 8.45pm.The mountain of paperwork is all that kept us so long. I have to say I was in shock a little I think I still am as for me it was all sooo quick.Smile

Bunnychan · 22/05/2013 19:44

I'm starting to lose track of all these beautiful may babies; so congratulations if I haven't already congratulated you! Well, tomorrow is my due date and I have a midwife appointment. I'm dreading going in case I come away disappointed. Who else is still standing now? X

CluelessNewbie1 · 22/05/2013 20:04

I'm still waiting. No signs of anything from me. Maybe I'm just fat and not pregnant after all... Grin I'm not due until the 29th.

shelly81 · 22/05/2013 20:11

I'm still standing too :-)) x

Bunnychan · 22/05/2013 20:18

clueless I just said the exact same thing to my DP
Lol! I think I've made it up- I can't see a baby at the end of it: whenever that may be ! X

DXBMermaid · 22/05/2013 20:52

Still standing!

Pffff please little baby, come soon. I am so ready to meet her and want snuggles!

beaut love your birth story! Thanks for sharing.

TigerSwallowTail · 22/05/2013 21:35

I'm still here, no baby today by the looks of things, my son was in years tonight too because he couldn't understand why she wasn't coming today.

BeauticianNotMagician · 22/05/2013 21:39

Ladies it's definitely a baby. I was the same and only went 3 days over. It will happen. Save all your energy for the big event and try to relax.

Anyone that's had theirs not sleeping. I have DP here for two weeks and plenty of chances to sleep. It's day 3 and I just can't drop off. I've had a max of four hours sleep since Friday Sad

babygeek · 22/05/2013 22:38

Still here as well Hmm meh...
Tiger, that's so sweet of your son. He must be so excited to meet baby, bless!

TigerSwallowTail · 22/05/2013 22:57

Ladies it's definitely a baby

In the past few days it has honestly crossed my mind a couple of times that I might have imagined it all :o

He's really excited about it baby, he got out of school today and the first thing he said to me in the playground was "you're not supposed to be here, you're supposed to be in the hospital!"

BeauticianNotMagician · 22/05/2013 23:08

Tiger I did wonder if mine was just cake Grin funny thing is now Ive had him I keep thinking I feel him moving inside me still. These hormones send us crazy I tell you

DXBMermaid · 23/05/2013 00:29

It's 03.27 here and I just spent the last hour or so putting on a load of laundry and cooking a chicken casserole. Now looking a recipes for blueberry muffins to make next.

Sisi8 · 23/05/2013 06:49
