Oh dear sanj - have to say that is my worst nightmare! Hope you don't get too much grief!

Hope you got home in the end legally. Was going to ask what you and you DH would do about going back to work as twins makes childcare more interesting! I always thought that DP would end up as SAHD, but actually I think I would be too jealous. Probably because I have been in the same role for too long now, but have delayed looking for new jobs as not sure I could cope with having to impress in a new company and have a young family.

Every time someone on here mentions a private scan I want to book one! Sorry you are feeling frustrated Umlauf - 22 weeks isn't that late, but if it is really bothering you can you not have a crying emotional fit at DH to manipulate convince him that you NEED a scan sooner?

Haylebop12 · 26/04/2013 11:23

Morning ladies, just had my 16 week appt. (15+5 also due 13-10-13) heard the hb Smile so pleased although it kept moving! Hr was 138bmp so I'm even more convinced its a girl hehe! I know it's an old wives tale but still!

Dd was born the 2/2 so I want this one 10/10/13!

Haylebop12 · 26/04/2013 11:24

Bpm*

roxvox · 26/04/2013 11:30

Pleased you had a good appointment haylebop! Are you feeling much better now generally?

I read that anything over 140bpm was a girl, anything under was a boy (as you say it's an old wives tale though).

Sorry to hear that so many of you are having crappy days. I am starting to feel much better in myself, so naturally I am worrying that something is wrong Blush

Haylebop12 · 26/04/2013 11:38

rox there's so much contradicting info. My mum swears its a girl if its over 130. But, she was counting to get it so could be wrong. I'm going to hold out and not have the scan.

I'm feeling so much better. Still fairly nauseas but I have energy and I returned back to work on Wednesday.

Sorry to hear about some of you having a rubbish week. Here's to the weekend! (Well Sunday as I'm working sat)

JellyCurls · 26/04/2013 12:54

hayle dd had a heart rate around 148 from what I remember and ds had a heart rate of 132. This little one had a heart rate of 150 at 16 wks, is it a pink baby?

BowlFullofJelly · 26/04/2013 13:55

I've just booked a cheeky scan for the morning Grin.

No idea what this little ones BPM is, but hopefully will know tomorrow boy or girl!

SeriousStuff · 26/04/2013 14:03

Thanks Umlauf it went well - heard the heartbeat after a long time searching! My DH couldn't get time off work today so I recorded it for him.

Took my mum with me - I think she enjoyed it, especially as we were on the exact same ward where she gave birth to me and my siblings.

Wickedgirl · 26/04/2013 14:15

I still have nearly 2weeks until my "16" week check up. I will be exactly 18 weeks when I finally have it done. 2 weeks later I will have my 20 week scan which I am nervous about

Claphammama · 26/04/2013 14:15

exciting bowlfull - waiting to hear your news!

So so happy it's almost the weekend... this week felt neverending. The carpenter just finished our fitted wardrobes (we were desperate for storage space) including a baby wardrobe in what's going to be converted into a nursery. So we are ready to decorate! Think I will spend this rainy weekend looking at paint colours - very glamorous. We have no idea what we have so no pink or blue. Thinking about a lovely pastel yellow... seems like a nice sunny colour for a baby room?

MrsO27 · 26/04/2013 14:43

I'm a bit of a lurker on here but really need some advice. Got my downs risk back and it's 1 in 386. It's classed as low risk but the average seems to be over the 1 in 1000 range. I don't want to seem insensitive as I know others on here have had to get further testing. My NT result was 1.3 which was normal so wondering if my bloods made me higher risk. I'm 30 years old. Will chat to my midwife when I see her again at 17 weeks as by then she'll hopefully have the full report, but just wondered if anyone knew much about the testing and what could have caused my risk to be higher? I'm such a worrier!

roxvox · 26/04/2013 14:44

claphammama we are going for yellow too. We don't intend to find out the sex of our baby, but even if we do find out by mistake (if it is glaringly obvious at the 20w scan) then we will still go for yellow.

seriousstuff I am glad you had a good appointment!

bowlfull I bet you are super excited about tomorrow though. I am super jealous. Really want to see my baby again... 3 weeks Smile

BowlFullofJelly · 26/04/2013 14:53

Very excited - but also now crapping myself that everything is ok Confused. Want to take DS, but part of me thinks it's a bad idea 'just in case'.

Hi Mrs027 - I'm not very knowledgeable on this, I'm sure someone more clever will give you a proper answer - there is someone else on the thread though that got a similar risk factor and was also worried, but I can't remember who it was.

Smitten1981 · 26/04/2013 14:58

We have a private gender scan booked for 11 May - Literally cannot wait. I was a teeny bit miffed they didn't tell us the sex from the CVS.

To those I was chatting to about cloth nappies, check if your local council have a reward scheme for using these. Mine gives you £25 cash back if you buy more than £50 worth of cloth nappies - you just have to send them a copy of the receipt. Still not 100% sold on the idea as it would mean more washing and I'm sure when the baby comes I probably won't have the time/inclination to bother with extra washloads. The thought of having a pile of stinking nappies in my wheelie bin makes me feel a bit ill though. Our council only collects every 2 weeks!

MrsO27 They look at your weight, whether you smoke and your ethnicity as well as bloods and the nuchal measurement, so it could have been any of those that threw the results off. BUT I also think the NHS testing isn't as reliable as private as I've noticed that private places also look at your scan in more detail too (blood flow to organs, etc). If you're worried you can get a private scan that will probably give you better odds, Babybond do them for about £150 I think. Either that or you can get the Harmony blood test if you're very worried, but that's £750.

In other news I'm sure I'm getting a bit of a bump, might have to dig some of my more slouchy jumpers out this weekend.

LostMySocks · 26/04/2013 15:34

MrsO my low risk result was 1 in 170 (I'm 38). Stressed me out so I paid for harmony and it came back as 1 in 10000. It was a bit expensive £500 but has let me relax and enjoy my pregnancy

Shootingstarsandcomets · 26/04/2013 16:31

I think a girls heart rate is supposed to be over 150 and a boys more like 130. Ds was always 130 ish unless he was moving about when it went up! I had loads of ctg's done so ou could see when he was wriggling and what happened to the hb so.........it's an old wives tale and unreliable because baby could be sleeping or wriggling like mad so even if its a high bpm it could just be because baby is moving in there. I honk I want to know the sex this time but DH still doesn't.......how to change his mind?!

Shootingstarsandcomets · 26/04/2013 16:34

I think not i honk!!! Grin

roxvox · 26/04/2013 16:37

shootingstarsandcomets I had the same issue with my DH. I was desperately trying to think of ways to convince him that we should find out, and then one morning I woke up and decided I didn't want to know. My family are all quite disappointed that we aren't looking to find out and keep saying things like 'It's your body it's happening to, if you want to find out then you should' and don't seem to understand that I have decided for myself that I don't want to know!

BowlFullofJelly · 26/04/2013 16:39

'I honk' Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 26/04/2013 16:53

I bought my first outfit for Willow. A gorgeous dungaree set from m and s Smile but had to buy ds trainers for holiday too so it was all I could get just now, I could have went mad so much cute stuff!

MrsO27 · 26/04/2013 17:20

Thanks all. Just spoke to my midwife as couldn't wait until 17 weeks and we go on holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow. She did say my result was on the "higher side" but not high enough to recall me for further tests. She couldn't give any specifics on why it was higher, just tried to reassure me and said testing is an option if i feel i want it, but risk of miscarriage is higher than risk of downs. I am not a smoker, a little overweight now, but not seriously and the NT measurement was 1.3 which I was told at the time was fine. I know there is more than a 99% chance of everything being fine but still a worry. The harmony testing does sound tempting but the midwife said the 20 week scan would check for other signs so thinking its maybe worth waiting until then. Just going to try and relax and enjoy our holiday in the meantime. Easier said than done!

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/04/2013 19:05

Hi MrsO27, it was me that was in a similar situation to you. Have a look back over the last few pages. It was high hcg and low pappa as well as a slightly high nuchal translucency for me. No extra tests suggested when I called screening midwife to ask about it.

Your risk factor is fine for downs, think of it as 99.75% that all is well.
I was suprised at the downs risk being higher than I expected, like you, but still not too concerned, more concerned about other issues with high hcg and low pappa like issues with growth, birth weight etc but they don't run extra tests or do anything for hcg, and for low pappa they do extra growth scans and checks on the placenta if your results are 0.2 MOM or below. Mine were not that low.

Do you get a full copy of your results back in your notes? I am going to discuss mine again at my 16 week check just in case the consultant says anything different to the midwife. When is yours?

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/04/2013 19:11

If it is of any reassurance, you are only three years older than me and our results were very similar, so I doubt your bloods would be far off mine. And mine weren't low or high enough to raise any alarm bells.

I hope you are able to not worry about it too much and enjoy your holiday.

Absolutely knackered today. Zzzzzz. Is anyone else feeling energised like you are meant to in the second trimester? I was seriously tempted to have a nap in my cupboard at 4. Going to eat something then straight to bed.

Soupqueen · 26/04/2013 20:01

orange, I am still exhausted and really struggling in the afternoons. My boss reckons the glowing/energy stage happens about halfway through the second trimester - so here's hoping!
