So it sounds like 50/50 on whether i'll have blood taken again... damn. Honestly the MWs were RUBBISH! We were next door to the blood donation centre and I was ready to beg her to go and get a phlebotomist because they never have any issues at all... the vein in my left arm is a good one, it's just at an unusual angle. The one on the right is ok but very deep. The haematoma didn't bother me that much (wasn't painful) but totally freaked them out - maybe i don't want to know why??? Confused

Poonli · 26/03/2013 21:17

Triple - I haven't been impressed with NHS so far. No info and left in the dark. I know Harmony is expensive but if you can stretch for it I would seriously recommend. Bold statement I know - but I think it's one of the best decisions I've made. My mind is very much at ease now and can enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.

No bloods taken for me at 16 weeks - just more weeing in a tube (can you believe they tried to tell me to reuse the wee tube for the next appointment - I flat right refused exclaiming my disgust and told them to give me a new tube for next time!). I did hear the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler though Smile

weebarra · 26/03/2013 22:17

Hi all, whyriskit here but have NC'd as didn't want there to be confusion between me and riskit4abiskit!
Hope everyone is doing ok. Think that the Harmony test sounds like a very good way to put minds at rest, just a pity it's prohibitively expensive!
Clearly I've completely forgotten about my previous pregnancies as I can't remember when blood gets taken. DH routinely gives blood and ended up with a haematoma and massive numbness in his arm last time, it's really put him off!
We're having a wee break in the highlands this week where DH's family are from, so nice to get out of the city - and the weather's been lovely so far!

JammyTummy · 26/03/2013 22:22

DH has been advised (by the same person who has been banging on about how 85% of people who find out the sex get PND and advising us to wait to buy anything/ get excited about having a baby) to wait with the nursery furniture 'in case my pregnancy went wrong'! WTAF? What kind of insensitive nonsense is that? I appreciate some people would rather leave their prep till later but why make someone feel like crap about starting early?? Just bloody rude...

riskit4abiskit · 26/03/2013 22:27

Oops sorry to have created a name confusion, you were here first. ( slopes off guiltily) I can change if you like I don't mind

weebarra · 26/03/2013 22:34

Don't be daft! Due for a name change, had the original since I joined and hadn't given it proper thought and consideration Wink.

JoCheshire10 · 27/03/2013 00:53

What a night... Had spotting - basically light pink after going for a pee (sorry tmi!) Rang the number the midwife gave me and they sent me to A&E which is where I've been for the last 3.5 hours..!

Had horrible smear type test, blood tests and abdominal examination and they couldn't find source of the bleeding and thankfully it seemed to just be the one isolated bit of spotting which didn't repeat itself. They said there was no point in another scan (although I begged to differ). Think I just have to accept its all normal and wait for my midwife appt in 10 days time...

Omg....pregnancy is stressful. Has anyone else had a similar experience and its all been positive? Just need a bit of reassurance Hmm

Dorita75 · 27/03/2013 06:29

Poor you Jo I've not had any myself but read about others who have, can be caused by sex if that's a possibility? Good you've been checked out, and there's no obvious reason, sounds like 'one of those things' Hope you're managed to sleep, you're right, this pregnancy thing is far from relaxing!

Kittenkatzen · 27/03/2013 07:36

Thanks for you jo sounds like you've had a rough night hope the spotting has stopped now and you can have a nice lay in this morning. I've definitely heard of a few people experiencing unexplained spotting so I do think it's relatively common. Bit mean of them not to give you a quick reassurance scan though.

jammy AngryAngry to the insensitive comments - it's astounding how some people's sense of tact seems to completely disappear when it comes to things like this isn't it?

triple jut seconding the others who have said that if you feel you need the reassurance then go for it - there really is no point putting yourself through 5+ months of constant worry.

jemimahpuddleduck · 27/03/2013 09:16

Jo I had the same at 9 weeks and everything was fine and nothing since I am now 16 weeks.

Got my 16 week midwife appointment this afternoon really hoping she checks the heartbeat.

Does anyone else wake up with really achey hips when they have been sleeping on their side? I have always slept on my side anyway but now wake up really achey? It goes as soon as I get up or if I switch sides? Was obviously expecting to be like this but not this soon!

Readytosettle · 27/03/2013 09:56

Having a really crap time on my conference. Managed to pick up a cold just before I left so have added not being able to breathe to my list of woes. Food has been very sparse (nothing for a veggie like me except bread rolls & a bit of salad), and last nights 8pm coach to 'dinner' turned out to be a sightseeing mission involving no food & drink and a frog march through the rain that none of us were dressed for (some cocktails & canopes were laid on at about 10pm!). I ended up soaked through, shivering & so dizzy that someone had to steal some crisps & a can of coke of a bystander to stop me from collapsing!

Ended up getting a taxi home, had a nosebleed & not a whole lot of sleep last night. Still got 2 more nights to go!!!! Worst work conference ever. :-(

fl0b0t · 27/03/2013 11:05

gnome thanks for asking..... still not much better. I've a little more energy but have to be careful about doing too much as it makes me sick again, so not exactly blooming yet!

Jo- I had an embarassing and almost stressful scene a week ago when I found some blood in my knickers. I panicked as it was new (red) and old (brown)... then I remembered that my fingernails were a little over-long and I'd embarassingly scratched myself "down below" that morning! Eek! Was very relieved though.

REady sorry you're feel duff :( There's nothing worse at the moment than not getting to eat when you're hoping or expecting to. I was supposed to meet my boss for appraisal at 10 and she's still not ready, worried it's going to eat into lunch o'clock now :(

Jemimah have you tried the pillow-between-the-knees trick? I've been doing it for weeks now and I sleep so much more comfy!

Starting to feel a bit more pregnant now, but stressing about summer clothes as I'm a hot body to start with. Waiting for decent summer maternity wear to come into the shops!

Keepsmilingsunshine · 27/03/2013 11:33

Sounds as if a few of us are suffering at the moment. I'm feeling really hormonal today. Just feel I could sit here and have a good cry for no reason. Does anyone else have days like this?

jennimoo · 27/03/2013 11:36

Jemimah - I second the pillow between the knees. I'm ok so far this time but last time was already really suffering by this point, as get pain in my hips generally. I ended up sleeping on top of 2 folded in half double duvets princess and the pea style by 25 weeks (think it was well before...) which really helped.
Some people recommend a memory foam mattress topper, but didn't try it myself. I have a new slightly softer mattress and wonder if that is keeping my pain at bay...

flipflump · 27/03/2013 11:48

We have a memory foam mattress topper on our bed, it's the best thing ever. I used to wake up with back ache, DH used to complain of a sore shoulder, we both sleep like logs now. I've been sleeping on my side very comfortably for a few weeks and have started using a v shape pillow too, one bit under the (flabby) bump and the other between the knees - heaven! Slightly annoying when I roll over and there's pillow and duvet up in the air.

Ready - that sounds awful, you poor thing! I'd have cried and gone home hours before you did!

JoCheshire10 · 27/03/2013 12:09

Thanks everyone - had a long lie in today and no more blood so hopefully it's the end of it. Baby must have wanted me to have a day off work eating cheese on toast! Smile

JoCheshire10 · 27/03/2013 12:14

Ready-that's awful! We had a Christmas work event and a couple of friends who were pregnant ended up leaving and going to a local restaurant due to the lack of food-might be worth taking yourself to grab something. You can't survive on crisps Hmm

Flobot-feel your pain about meetings interfering with lunch time. Don't people understand pregnant women need to eat on time. I was bad pre-pregnancy, now I'm useless without food-I'd take lunch in with you. Smile

Girraferama · 27/03/2013 12:29

Sorry to chip in and run (no time) but jemima I just bought a full body-length pillow from the baby section in Argos - currently reduced to a tenner - most others I've seen are more like £30. Ideal for hip/knee/back issues sleeping!

jemimahpuddleduck · 27/03/2013 13:08

Thanks for all the replies I have just reserved the pillow from Argos so will pick it up after midwife later.

Fingers crossed it works!

badguider · 27/03/2013 13:21

somebody also told me those long pillows are cheap as chips in ikea and nothing like the price of official 'maternity pillows' but exactly the same thing.

frogchops · 27/03/2013 13:26

I have the Argos pillow, its lovely but gets in the way a lot at the mo. sometimes acts as a lovely barrier between me and do tho when he's hogging the bed!

JammyTummy · 27/03/2013 13:28

Sorry to everyone feeling rubbish today! It must be this nasty weather!

Question- does your second MW appointment take as long as the first one?

dakomponist · 27/03/2013 14:47

Hi Team,

I've not been very active posting on the forum but I do find it helpful to hear what's going on with your pregnancies.

Since week 6 I have been extremely sick with Hyperemisis. I had a very bad patch where I didn't get out of bed for near on 4 weeks but things improved enough for me to go and do a few weeks work in France. I'm still quite ill at times though. Last nights vomiting was particularly unpleasant.

Just waiting at the midwives for my 16 week appt... Looking forward to hearing the heartbeat etc.

Readytosettle · 27/03/2013 14:56

Thanks for the support girls. Have just bowed out of 'team building'. My boss persuaded me to come 'just for lunch', which was more bread & meat that I can't eat. Would barely pass as lunch for the meat eaters, I then thought I'd show willing but after 45mins of standing around in the rain with silly hats waiting to participate in a flash mob video I just thought 'what am I doing??' and left them to it.

Have now made it back to the hotel & have run a bath, will shortly be ordering room service & then it'll be nap time before I decide whether I can face tonights fancy dress party sober...

Creamtea1 · 27/03/2013 15:05

jammy - a big no - mine took all of 5 mins, wee in a pot, blood pressure, listen for heart beat
