Mums can get me in at 17 weeks, I'm just going to speak to mw tomorrow before I book. I'm continually thinking that the other mw was right in that I'll have amnio anyway after marker scan. :-/

fl0b0t · 26/03/2013 11:58

Sorry to hear that a few people are a bit vommy or headachey again this week :(

Eeeknumber3 · 26/03/2013 12:05

Ladies, hear this, I have made a monumental food discovery...SMOKED FETA CHEESE! Courtesy of mr morrisons...am salivating thinking about it in pasta with arrabiata sauce with mushrooms and capers...note -my headache just makes me want to eat more...

Wincher · 26/03/2013 12:06

Sounds like a good idea to have the marker scan first anyway, frog.

I'm just back from my 16-week appointment - all well. It took her a little while to find the heartbeat but it was lovely when it started up! I also heard the placenta whooshing which was odd.

I don't have another midwife appointment till 28 weeks now!

Wincher · 26/03/2013 12:08

I do have my 20 week scan and my GTT at 24 weeks before then though.

astroming · 26/03/2013 12:32

Oooh Wincher thats lovely. Its fab hearing the heartbeat. I was really sad with my first baby and taped every doppler session with the MW on my phone so my hubby could hear it when he got home!

Yes to smoked feta...and pasturised brie and kallo parmesan breadsticks dipped in lemon houmous. mmmm on a carb fest today:-)

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 26/03/2013 12:39

JammyTummy I was really slack with the preparation for baby number one, his nursery still isn't decorated. He's two! But I know why you'd want to, it's exciting stuff. I still have the urge to put together a pretty nursery for this baby but it probably won't happen.

Poonli · 26/03/2013 12:43

Hi Ladies

Well after a pretty traumatic 3 weeks I do actually have some good news. My 12 week scan showed 1:49 chance of Downs and a high Beta-HcG test which caused issues with growth hormone for baby.

I decided to go for the Harmony test rather than CVS/Amnio. Got my results back today that we are very low risk - SOOOOO HAPPY!! :)

I have been moved over to consultant led care now as they just monitor the baby's growth more. They say its nothing to worry about but I do get more scans than usual.

We finally told all our friends and family today as wanted to wait for Harmony results and everyone is so happy for us.

Not had any morning sickness so now I can really enjoy being preggers! (I have a really small bump)

Its my first baby and i'm 30 and not the first 4 months I was expecting but so relieved and can feel baby moving around now (i'm 16+5 weeks).

Roll on second trimester - i'm ready for you now!

xxxx

astroming · 26/03/2013 12:47

Congratulations Poonli. Thats fab news. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now.x

JammyTummy · 26/03/2013 13:04

I'm also excited to hear that you are feeling your baby move, I'm just over a week behind you with my first and can't wait to feel movement, eek! Grin

MammaGnomes · 26/03/2013 18:46

Hi ladies just checking in to see how everyone is doing. It's so lovely catching up knowing were all that same stage as I have no pregnant friends to share and moan with

Flo- how's the sickness think mine is easing managed to not have a tablet yesterday, had one today though as could feel sickness coming on and was mad busy at work so didn't have time to be sick ha ha! Bands are still on too scared to take them off!!

Charl- I have a friend called Charlann and her surname begins with a W so Everytime I see your posts I secretly wish it's her, I know your not as you mentioned a school run and she defo doesn't do them plus I would sincerely hope she would have told my by now as she has known my news since 8w

ION my clothes are starting to get tight which I am not pleased about, I'm only 14 weeks (tomorrow) and refuse to buy may clothes yet but I don't know how long I am going to get away with the same tops with leggings outfits plus I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks :( I'm at that look fat not pregnant stage I lost 2 stone before conceiving and was down to a size 10 for all of 2 months :(

Moan over!!!!!

MammaGnomes · 26/03/2013 18:46

Wow essay ha ha

MammaGnomes · 26/03/2013 18:47

And apologies for the shocking gramma

Dorita75 · 26/03/2013 19:32

Thanks kitten, though to be fair I?ve not done much looking around yet, bought the jeans on a whim with my 8 month pregnant friend! The 2 or 3 shops I have looked in seem to just have trousers/jeans with the big bump bit, not the type with extendable elastic bits on the waistband. I need something in between, which is probably to take Gok?s advice and just buy a size bigger. Am off now till next Weds so think I?ll have a morning in town for a proper look around the shops.

Charl yes to one itchy nipple! Body cream seems to sorting itching at the mo..

Great news wincher and poonli - can feel your excitement bouncing off the screen!

badguider · 26/03/2013 19:40

Can I ask those who have had 16week appts did you get more blood taken?

MWs seem to be having a right drama about my veins (even though I give blood regularly with no issues) and I ended up with a haematoma in one arm and the other one bruised to shit for more than a week after last time Angry.

Want to be prepared if they're going to do that again... I've got my 16wk appt at 18.5wks.

flipflump · 26/03/2013 19:49

Badguider, I don't think it's routine to have bloods done. I will, but that is due to a minor problem needing re-checked. I've already been told it will be happening. It's routine to test urine, blood pressure, weight and if you're lucky fetal heart.

Keepsmilingsunshine · 26/03/2013 20:00

Wonderful news PoonliSmile

I had my 16 weeks apt today and all was well I had ++ for sugar so she did a random blood sugar blood test. Changed midwifes and this one is fabulous, a real down to earth, say it as it is, sort - right up my street! She did however have me panicked for a few moments...took her a good few mins to find the heartbeat and then finally managed to find it really high up. She said that my uterus is very high for this stage. Not sure if that means anything or not Confused. Anyhow, as I still haven't felt baby, hearing the heartbeat was wonderful!

TripleRock · 26/03/2013 20:05

Evening ladies.

After some advice. I'm having a bit of a wobble about my decision to decline screening tests for Downs. Our decision was based on the fact we would refuse amnio. But I have since been reading on here about Harmony etc...

Also a member of our extended family has just given birth to a baby with Downs and serious heart defects, which has been a huge shock for all concerned. I can't help feeling it would be better to know beforehand, not least from the pov of having any specialist care on standby for the baby at the birth.

I am now considering asking for the quad blood test (too late for nuchal) and taking it from there, knowing we would have Harmony to fall back on (albeit horrendously expensive).

The other factor is I've been very unimpressed with all of my NHS scans so far, and if the 20w one follows suit, it's not going to fill me with much confidence... Sorry just rambling now!

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Keepsmilingsunshine · 26/03/2013 20:28

Hi Triple I would request the test if thats what it takes to put your mind at rest. 20+ weeks is a long time to worry, especially when it's something you can do something about.

riskit4abiskit · 26/03/2013 20:35

badguider I have been told that its bloods every time sorry! my arms are also rubbish for veins, the MW last time said lefts are better than rights, and to pump my arms for a good 30 secs or so beforehand.

riskit4abiskit · 26/03/2013 20:39

triplerock I have been impressed with my scan at 12wks and 13wks, the sonographer(s) were really nice and took ages letting me see the different parts of baby and pointing it out from different angles. she took loads of screen capture style images and let me choose.

but I guess its luck of the draw depending on where you are etc. I also found that they became more friendlier once I started asking questions and then would explain for me.

jennimoo · 26/03/2013 20:40

Nice to hear some good news, and sorry to hear of your dilemma triple.

I didn't have blood taken or get weighed at 16 week MW appointment, but MW also took ages to get HB as did GP last week at 17 weeks so don't panic if it takes a minute.
