Hi Sam - Welcome. I am a first timer too. It a bit scary, but I have to say this BB is a godsend for me.

What a great question to ask about the maternity bag, Kay. I'm not practical enough to think of asking, but am glad to get the free advice. My mum is coming from Aus in June, and I was going to let her help me pack the hospital bag. She is going to need some things to boss me around about anyway. She'll be here 6 weeks, so I am keeping a list of things I will let her "advise" me on. Otherwise it'll be all tears.

Jersey - I particularly liked the suggestion of earplugs. I spent a night in the ante-natal ward already, at 21 weeks as I was dehydrated from a particularly bad vomiting bout. I was not prepared for any of the strange sounds in the night, and at that stage didn't even want to think about labour. I wished I had earplugs. A close friend recommended to me to take my I-pod and crank it as loud as it will go. Now I just have to work out what music to have on it. Doubt if I am in overnight I'll be sleeping, so may something loud and energetic? I don't know.

I may need the earplugs before hospital when my Mum gets into "helpful" mode Wink

HC - thanks for sorting out the list. Don't let it do yer head in though Smile

Hi again,

I know I am very new to this but I needed a bit of a rant!

Why oh why are men sooo lazy?
Today, I got DD and DS up, made packed lunches, breakfast etc and took them to school whilst DH had a lie in! I went straight to work, spent the whole day running about like an idiot and finally got home at 7:45 only to find that the kids still hadn't had any food and DH couldn't see what the problem was.

I have just finished making dinner and washing dishes and on his way past DH had the cheek to have a go at the kids for allowing their pregnant mother to do everything!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you believe it!!!!!!

Sorry about that, but I really needed a moan

JeanieG-are you talking about my DH??? Actually, I think he has flipped. He has just turned round and said I can't cope with it anymore and you can have the house, I am going. 5 mins later when I asked exactly what he couldn't cope with (thinking to myself that he doesn't have anything to cope with anyway apart from the nursery) and he said it doesn't matter and to forget it. FIL spent 3 hours cutting the grass today so DH got out of doing that and is sat downstairs on the laptop as usual. Really am considering going on strike! I can't help having limited ability at the mo due to large bump-takes 2 to tango! Ho hum, the joys of marriage!

Must go as DH loitering!

Tell me about men being lazy. DP is asleep on the sofa now...Wouldn't mind but we're not even home visiting my mum...oh dear!
Can i ask why lip balm is good for labour bag? Do lips get very dry, or just streching mouth a lot from screaming loads?

Hi everyone, welcome Sam.

What is it with DH's! After my moan earlier in the week everything has been calmer, although I have to get me and DS sorted and downstairs by 6:00 in the morning so DH can have his quite half an hour before we all have to leave the house for work, etc.. Last night I said can you bath DS as it is a struggle bending now and he did it but wasn't happy. Not that I was sitting around doing nothing! I unloaded the dishwasher, put the dinner on, cleared up a load of paperwork, etc....... Not surprising I took DS up to bed at 7:30 and fell asleep on the bed with him.

I think if men had babies the human race would be extinct by now Grin.

Oh well college tonight, prob. get moaned at tomorrow re him having DS all evening.

Re hospitals I was told last time take everything as they don't supply anything!!! We looked like we where going for a month when I went up to be induced last time!! They don't even off your husband/partner a cup of tea. When DH was visiting last time I just had lots of cups of tea and DH drank some of them.

Well done with the list HC. I think sep. thread for stats is a good idea.

Morning all - nice to see lots of new people, welcome to the thread :)

I'm a first timer and I've just turned 28, which makes me feel like an older mum in some places and a younger one in others - weird! One of my yoga friends 'graduated' and bought her newborn in to the group yesterday. She looked fantastic and told us her birth story - really calm and controlled (she had really good midwife) and completely different from her first experience (emergency cs). It was so nice to hear about a birth going smoothly - as usually people line up to tell you their horror stories!

Also went to first NCT class last night, which was fairly interesting. Don't think I'll make any bosom buddies but we shall see. Dh did say that amongst the dads there were a few who seemed to want to be told the 'right' way to do things, as if there was a master set of instructions! Think our attitude is more that we take on board the advice and see how it goes, as all babies are different.

27 weeks tomorrow - I'm round and proud!

Morning ladies

Have created a seperate thread for our stats-goodness knows how you create a link as the http that it says to type in is mega long. One day I will learn what to do. Grin

Have packed some of my bag and this is my initial list:

Toy for new DD
Cotton wool balls (as they don't agree with wipes)
Wipes (for when they are not looking)
Tissues
Nappies
Nappy sacks
Sleepsuits
Vests
Magazines
Nighties
Big Pants
Maternity pads
Dressing gown
Slippers
Bottled water

We have a new maternity home where you give birth in the room you stay in and you have to make your own drinks as there is no-one to help you.

DH a bit more normal but more concerned with getting his bike back together to go out and do some track days Angry. Nothing will ever get done!!!!!

Off for a relaxing cup of tea as knackered.

Byee for now.

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the list HC, what a palava!

About DH's, I must admit to having the best one in the world. Aw! I go to work every day (well the days I don't skive off for a five minute appointment), so he has DS all day every day. He cleans the house, plays with DS, feeds, dresses, changes him, sometimes he does dinner, sometimes I do it, sometimes we have pizza... AND he sorts out all the mortgages and forms and stuff for moving house... He really is the best. Only trouble is we're both in bed asleep for 10pm.

Haven't even thought about packing a bag yet, 29 weeks today. Hope to be out of the hospital as quickly as possible anyway. Stayed two nights last time, trying to establish feeding, but found that getting home and relaxing on your own sofa works wonders.

OH MY GOD ONLY 11 WEEKS TO GO!!!!

Enjoy the weekend and dont forget your nipple cream, very big pants that dont go over C section scar's old ladies pants are the best!!!! with frills blue and pink!! funny story from DD's birth, poor DH sent to find old ladies pants as big as he could get, he did a great job but really he didn't need to get the ones with lace!!! he has a very wicked sense of humour!!!!!!! I am jealous of all you lot thinking about hospital bags etc already...I just feel like there is still soooooo long to go.

Re how long to stay in hospital - With ds I was in 24 hours, and with dd I planned to have a 6 hour discharge, but then they found her murmur and we had to stay in :( This time I am just going to see how it goes, and not plan for anything!

Kayzed - maybe he needs orthotic insoles to help fit the shoes. Also re: buggies, what about that funky Phil & Teds (E3, I think). I saw it in the mothercare catalogue, and in my neighbourhood, almost as often as the bugaboos.

Hi to all the newbies Grin

Just measured myself and I'm now almost 9 sheets. As for DHs, mine's one of the best. He's just cooked and quite often does so when he comes in from work or will take over from me doing it. He's even hoovered for me today.

Sam - I was 21 when I had my DS and he's now 11!!! Doesn't time fly.

IamBlossom - Your qualification should be ok. Check out your local Uni for PGCE courses (Post Graduate Cert in Education). If you can and it's available in your area, see about the SCITT course (don't ask what it stands for, because I just about remember PGCE). It's one of the best courses and really well recognised in schools in England. They're all full time courses as far as I know and they are fairly intense as you have to attend lectures and spend time in a local school teaching. I'm not sure when I'll be starting yet but it's in the pipeline!! Let me know if I can offer any more advice.

Jersey - Have you looked into doing your Masters with the OU? I know they can sometimes help out finacially, depending on salaries and how many children you have. You can check it out online to see whether or not you might be ok.

Hi ladies,

Sam- Welcome to the group. I was 21 when dd1 was born, now 25 and due with dd3.

What a lovely day it's been again today, my freckles have started popping out with all the time spent in the garden.

Went out yesterday and bought the girls and DH (the biggest kid I know) a water slide for the garden. Hoping the weather will warm up a bit more so they can have it out this weekend.

Missed my hydrotherapy appointment yesterday, am so tired and achey, think LO has moved back onto a nerve or something. Have spent the last few nights trying to get to sleep through all the pain. And wandering if its time to dust off the crutches. Got to see midwife and HV next week so will have another chat then I think.

HC- You are an angel for keeping track of the stats. I refer to them all the time, but I couldn't sit there and copy them all out, would send me batty I think.

Made up my mind to try and eat a bit more healthy now. Spent the last 27 weeks eating crap, I know i'll regret it when LO is born and my arse is still huge.

Gotta go, am peeing all the time at the moment!

Have a good one girls!

Evening all [smile}

My freckles have gone mad too! Seem to get more every year, I'll soon be one big freckle!

Why is it now I have started the countdown to finishing work (5 weeks!!) everything seems to be going crazy?! Have got a million and one things to do, I work 3 days a week and am going to have to increase that for the last few weeks just to get it all done in time Angry Trying to delegate but it's not my strong point and they are already going to have enough to do when I'm gone I don't want to start piling on the pressure now. Oh well it will be worth it I'll be able to finish knowing I have done everything I possibly can to make things run smoothly.

Thanks HC didn't thnk of nappy sacks and tissues, I chickened out and have just bought cotton wool knowing I'll use wipes at home Blush

Is anyone else really waddling now? I don't know if this is how I am going to have to walk til the big day or if its just where baby is positioned at the mo, its really uncomfortable!

Told a couple of children at pre-school today about the baby, they were touching my bump trying to guess where his head was and waiting for a kick sadly he wasn't obliging!

Think thats it from me, take care ladies Smile
