Thanks for the info on your section Jom, it sounds like it went really well for you. I used femme pads after my vaginal birth as I had episiotomy stiches which became infected (sorry, probably tmi!). They really did help soothe the area so worth getting if you need them - I despatched my hubby to mothercare after the birth. You can also order them from the NCT website.

Twirl · 30/05/2006 22:06

Kayzed - I didn't know that about movement towards the end! Glad your appt went well. I didn't have spd with dd and lo is head down and 1/5 engaged although I think they can still pop in and out at this stage....

kbaby · 31/05/2006 04:45

sunita123- Youve still got some time for the baby to move. Try the positions that kayzed has posted and if they dont work accupuncture or reflexology can also work.

Someone asked about fempads. I bought those last time on DD. They were good but the only thing I wasnt sure of was where you actually put them. I thought they were meant to go between your legs but then your wearing a maternity pad. I was putting them over the top of the maternity pad and you bleed everywhere. Maybe I was doing something wrong. They do feel nice when they've just come out of the fridge though. I wouldnt buy any yet in case you dont need them.

I think the baby has finally moved from transverse as my bump seems to have dropped. The bad bit is that I cant feel the back anymore so its prob back to back. The movements seemed to have slowed right down today as well and it keeps kicking my hip bone. Ive got the midwife today so hopefully she'll know exactly where it is.
Does anyone else spend each evening proding? Im afraid I may distres it as I keep prodding it to see how its laying.

puddytat99 · 31/05/2006 06:36

Hi everyone

Sorry to hear that some of you are having a tough time, sending lots of hugs your way Smile

Bumpy - I wish I was only an E. The last bras I bought were a 36G and they are starting to get a little uncomfortable. Will have to get to Bravissimo in the next week or so. Think I'll be beating Jordan and as they say, it's all my own work Grin

Entropy - congrats. I agree with KZ if it's not too far and you're up for it on the day, you go girl!!!!

Time for a bit of a moan Sad Since finishing work on Friday, I've been ill. It's always the same every school holiday. As soon as I relax, I get ill. This time it's a bad cold. Everytime I cough (every 5 mins) baby kicks me. Yesterday was really bad. As well as the cold, baby moved into my back and I was in agony for about 3-4 hours. Wasn't painful, just really uncomfortable. Got myself in a bit of a state and ended up having a good old cry. when DH came in from work, he found me on all 4's over the gym ball with a Dougal (Magic Roundabout) hot water shoved up the back of my top. It really did help but after 2 hours in that position, my knees were totally dead (old age).

Hopefully today things will be better. The sun's already shining and the washing is on. Take care of your bumps and yourselves.

IamBlossom · 31/05/2006 10:03

Morning ladeeez. Bright and Sunny here, feet are a bit cold though as I have bravely donned sandals...June is due tobe a heatwave though apparently, must admit I have mixed feelings about that.

Had a row with DH this morning as apprently my tidying away and cleaning OCD has reached it's peak. Don't get me wrong I'm not a bleach fiend, but cannot stand having shit lying around, and I do try and "tidy" him a bit too much I think - ie, putting his stuff away (he never does) moving his clothes from where he drops them on the floor, asking if i can throw away his post if it is rubbish (usually is and if I dont it sits there for weeks). He said i am driving him mad and will drive myself insane if I keep this up with two kids (am just as bad with DS). Maybe he is right and I will try and chill about it all a bit more.

Entropy, I would go if I was feeling ok at the time. You may not be able to if you are having the baby though! DS was 5 days early...

last official day at work today, hurrah and huzzar! Off for lunch with the girls later.

catch up soon, hope all those of you feeling pain get better soon.

Morning all
Entropy - congratulations! I would go to the ceremony if you can, after all that hard work you deserve the glory.
Iambloss - enjoy your last day at work.
Puddytat - you poor thing, back pain is horrible at the best of times but worse when you are feeling so sh*t. When my back is really bad I crawl into the shower and let the water pelt my back whilst I am on all fours (not a pretty image but it does work!)
Somebody mentioned testing soon for Group Strep B? Definitely get yourselves tested - my hospital have just found out that I am carring the Strep B organism so I have to make decisions now about taking antibiotics to protect the baby at birth. Feel a bit freaked out about more decisions but it is better to know and be prepared than not to know. Has anyone else got any experience of Strep B? I found a really sad thread on mumsnet about babies that have died from the infection and have spent a good hour blubing over the lost lives Sad.

deblaca · 31/05/2006 12:17

hello

ladies - I could have a good old moan about getting bigger, being uncomfortable, broken sleep and painful hands but when I read the pain some of you are in, I feel lucky not to have anything 'worse' - hope yall are feeling bettter soon Smile - I guess one consolation is that most of these ailments/symptoms disappear on the arrival of the lo

you can get info and a test kit on Group Strep B here www.gbss.org.uk/ - I received mine this morning but will wait until week 36 before doing the test ....

deblaca · 31/05/2006 12:20

entrophy - i''ll join in with the congrats .... if it were me i'd do anything to go to the ceremony (you must be proud) (can you call them to explain your predicament maybe they'll cut you some slack and refund if nec.)

Annie29 · 31/05/2006 14:11

Afternoon ladies.

Sympathies to all of you having a lot of pain and discomfort. I'll echo what deblaca said, I could moan, but when I read about all of you, then it doesn't seem so bad.

That Group B Strep has got me worried now. Midwife has never mentioned it, though I was aware of it, just never thought it could happen to me sort of thing. Don't seem to have any of the risk factors though (yet). Twirl I'm sure you'll be fine, now that you're aware of it at least.

Entropy lol at your PhD being 3 years overdue!! Enjoy it if you do go, hope your baby isn't that long overdue!!! Yeouch!

Any of you buying carseats? We checked them out at Mothercare on Monday, decided the one we want, checked it fitted, then went to Halfords where it was #20 cheaper!! And I have a ten per cent off voucher for Halfords on the back of that Bounty book, so that's another tenner off. Mothercare are a rip-off really aren't they.

LO is now poking out my right side, so I'm very lop-sided here...

Have a good day everyone!

Annie 33+6

Enjoy your last day Bloss!! Lucky you. I still have four weeks to go, like you maewest, but I'd love to just give up now. Can't really complain though, as I have very little work to do (say nothing, there's a meeting tomorrow which could change all that!). Makes the time drag by a bit though.

Shazeroo · 31/05/2006 15:37

hello!
Am also feeling depressed as I still have 4 weeks to go at work....but keeping going by thinking of more time off after the baby!!

What is the group B Strep? I have never heard of it and my midwife has also never mentioned it - but then she's never mentioned half the stuff i've found out from other places (mainly this site!) in the 3 times I've seen her in 33 weeks...!!!

Entropy - I'm kind of sharing your dilemna - I have been invited to a wedding on the day before my due date! One of the girls at work is desparate for me to go as I sit opposite her and have been hearing about it for the past 2 and a half years since she got engaged!! (even if I do go what am I going to wear at that stage!!)

I wanted to share something with you all....you may all already know but no-one I've spoken to yet has heard of this....
Marks and Spencers have started doing Maternity bump covers (in black or white). They look like a boob tube but just go over your bump so - if like me- you wear under the bump trousers and you're finding that you sometimes get a bare stomach gap between them and your top, they go under your top and you don't have to worry about it any more as your bump is covered. Not sure if I'm explaining this well but have a look on the M&S website under the maternity bit. They only cost a fiver and if you can't justify buying new clothes at this stage like me, they are great! Had a bit of a laugh in M&S when I went to order them as the checkout girl didn't know what it was and thought it was a boob tube (you could see her looking at me as if to say "surely you're not going to wear a boob tube in your condition"...when I expalined it to her she thought it was great and asked her colleague if she'd seen them before and she said "oh they're great they hold all your bits in place" (thinking they were similar to Bridget Jones pants) and she looked at me and said "but you don't need them at the moment do you?" so I had to explain again...

Anyway, hope you're all well and sorry for the essay...

Annie - did you move to Winchmore Hill yet?

deblaca · 31/05/2006 15:57

shaz - NHS doesn't routinely check for Strep B but check out the link i posted a couple posts earlier ........

hi girls.
I have group b strep. Found out i'm a carrier back in 2002.
I would advice iv anti-biotics. If your waters break-go straight into hospital, same as if your labour starts.
You must inform hospital staff that you are a group b strep carrier. This is very important.
Without trying to worry you it could be life-death situation for your baby.
EXPECT TO HAVE A LONGER STAY IN HOSPITAL AS MOST BABIES THAT HAVE A GROUP B STREP CARRIER MOTHER NEED 48HOURS OF IV ANTI-BIOTICS. it is worrying for you. I found out when pregnant the second time, i'm pregnant for the fourth time, and it still worrys me.

Annie29 · 31/05/2006 16:33

Shaz, LOL at your M&S story! What a great idea! Haven't moved yet, still waiting, for what I don't know, but DH has it all in hand (so he says). Think our sale is going faster than our buying which could leave us homeless in between, but I'm sure it'll work out! Still don't know if we're moving before or after popping.

Oh yeah, and my brother's wedding is two days after my due date, but I can't go as I'd have to fly to Ireland. Can't be doing with that. Unless LO comes really early and I'm nice and recovered, but I can't see that happening somehow. I'd never be able to keep up with the drinking anyway, not having touched a drop in nearly nine months!! My friend had a baby last December 12 months, she went to a wedding on the Saturday (of our very best friend from school, couldn't really miss it!!), got home at 3.30 am ish, her waters went at 7.30am and she popped at 1.30am next morning! So maybe we could add "go to a wedding" to our list of labour inducers! I'm sure it happened with someone else too but can't think who... Now, where's my brain got to... Oooh and ice cream...

Shuddup now...

A cunning plan, KZ!!! Grin

Twirl · 31/05/2006 20:15

Evening all.
Kayzed, I didn't know my hospital were testing me for Strep B, apparently it showed up in a urine sample when I went in for monitoring after my false alarm last week. I have been given 5 days of antibiotics now and will have iv drugs when in labour as lilliana has said.
Rant alert
I had my appointment with the consultant today, didn't get to see mine but saw another one and she was a complete bitch. Basically she didn't listen to a word I said about what I knew about my spd condition, was extremely patronising and doesn't want me to have an elective c-s. She wants to admit me to hosp now for remainder of preg for bed rest and pain relief, then induce me at 38 weeks with an epidural for a vaginal delivery. Needless to say I started sobbing hysterically on my husband at that point saying I couldn't cope anymore and wanted the certainty of a c-s. She then said that if they did a c-s it would be at 39 weeks but at my request not because in their medical opinion I needed one. She also said that a lot of fuss is made about SPD and birth which isn't warranted. Anyway, aparently I have to think very carefully about what she has said and go back in 2 weeks to discuss it again. I am so upset. I just don't trust them to give me pain relief after they have induced me...I was lied to so much last time that I don't have much faith in doctors words which is one of the reasons why I wanted a homebirth which I now can't have.... I just don't know what to do now.
So sorry to go on so much. Hugs to the rest of you. xxx

Twirl - I am soo sorry you had such a bad experience at the Dr's today!!Sad I 2nd KZ's suggestion to try and get an appointment with your usual cons. You can always ring their personal secr. directly which may help as apposed to going through antenatal clinic/midwifes. Best of luck!

34+4 today. Feel so lucky to have come this far without any hitch upsSmile!! But god do I feel tired and heavy! Having this baby at 38 weeks would really be very nice indeed!

Having said that my DD aged 4 has her first ever ballet show on the 25th of June and my DD is 8th of July. I soo do not want to miss her big day!!!! So best day would be ca 26th of JuneGrin would that be asking too muchWink

Think I am pretty organised by now. Have got enough stuff to last us at least the first few days.
Want to buy a bouncing seat as never had one last time. We just used the car seat which worked fine but I think that I want a proper one this time. Are those vibrating ones any good or is it just a complete waste of money?

Hugs from
DangirlSmile

OldieMum · 31/05/2006 21:26

Hi to all. Sorry to hear about those in pain and also about Twirl's bad experience with Dr today. I also went to the antenatal clinic today. They scanned me, to monitor a fibroid that the Dr found during my previous c-section. It hasn't grown since the 20-week scan, thank goodness, but it's low down and in an awkward spot for another section. But the baby is an unstable lie, so it's another c-section for me. They will carry it out on 27th June, but want to admit me on 20th, just in case I go into labour spontaneously (this happened with DD). So he'll be a June baby, after all.

Dangirl - we have a very simple bouncing seat from mothercare which we bought for DD. It was extremely useful, and I would recommend buying one, but I can't really see the point of the vibrating ones. We don't use vibrating moses baskets, after all, and babies sleep happily in those Smile. They might even alarm a baby.

lilianna · 31/05/2006 21:37

hi girls, went to see the midwife today- finally the baby is head down (just hope it doesn't turn again)
spd is sooooo painful. Had it in the last pg and got it again this time (started at 15weeks, but now is really painful and thats without moving)
My sickness has started up again, think it might have something to do with being really hot and tired all the time.
Had my 28week blood tests today, even though im 34weeks.
i have the hospital in 2weeks time and the midwife in 3weeks time.
Only 6weeks left and hoping baby will be 2weeks early.
Take care x

IamBlossom · 01/06/2006 09:38

Hey Twirl, what a bitch from hell, easy for her to say a fuss is made on SPD, it's not her sitting there suffering is it? Cow.

Re vibrating chairs - we used a mothercare one with DS and he totally loved it and I have bought this one from mamas and papas for £15 less (mothercare one was borrowed) www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/product_details.php?id=4491335&type=I - it was in the sale and only cost me £25.

Went for a swim this morning, off to tidy house and chill before getting DS at lunchtime. Really going to enjoy the next month or so pottering around before this baby comes and all hell breaks loose!

This story will make you all feel better....

Am 37 weeks pregnant and for some bizzare reason we decided we should start marketing our house this very morning. DP actually arranged the first appointment for 0845!!!! yes I know but he's a bloke so what can you do.

Got up having spent last night ironing duvet covers and attacking my taps with vinegar. DS1 point blank refused to get dressed then whacked me in the face....I stayed calm and told him that was naughty and headed off to bathroom to ignore tantrum that then kicked off. Few nano seconds later he runs towards me to tell me he's done a peepee on the new sofa bed in his room. DP then blames me for not supervising. I'm still keeping calm.

I pack him and DS off to the grandparents and set about changing said duvet cover (not easy at 37 weeks I find) and making myself half presentable for work. Shove on a cardy (no time to de-bobble) and can't seem to undo the safety pin thingy that hold it together so find another one to hold it all together so am wearing two at this point. Hair is beyond a bit of fluffing so I straggle together a pony tail. AT LAST I'M DONE...peepee drying upstairs and I'm heading for the door looking frankly like a bag of spuds. Get in to my front garden and I kid you not Cameron Diaz look alike in my garden (viewer) and Nancy Delalio look alike (Estate Agent) heading towards me!

Being pregnant sucks!

HumphreysCorner · 01/06/2006 10:14

Morning ladies

Twirl-can't believe your horrendous experience with the cons. Have they no feelings at all!!! Angry I suppose my midwife was similar in saying that loads of people have SPD at the moment and there is nothing you can do about it so have to just put up with it. GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't want to stay in from now until the birth as one night was bad enough. Hugs to you hun. ((xx))

I have dropped DD at nursery and am planning on sitting down as my SPD is ouch today. Went to Tescos yesterday with my mum and DD but by the time I got to the till I was nearly on the floor. So when the cashier asked if I would like some help with my packing I said oh yes please. Well, the shock on the cashiers face as there clearly wasn't anyone to help so my mum had to do it. Why ask if there is nobody to do it?

Have booked a hair appointment for the 28th June which is the Wednesday before I am due on the Saturday-do you think I'll make it?

Have to say am a tad Envy of you that are having your treasures before me and I am first on the list! Going to stock up on pineapple Wink the week before. Still want my hair doing though-oh, decisions, decisions.

lilianna-I'm sure your baby will stay head down now. Mine has been like this since about 31 weeks. I'm with you on the nausea but am determined not to be sick as I can't do with the wetting myself bit that goes with it.

We have a rocker chair that will be used again-it doesn't vibrate you just stick your foot on it and rock it across the room for instant peace.

Have to write my birth plan ready for the MW next week-think I am going to write-WHATEVER! That will cover everything methinks.

Have bought another 6 pairs of huge pants for my bag and put some tea bags in. Just need the travel kettle and I'm ready for off.

Have told DH that we will have to pay for the television in the room (£5 per day) as I just can't miss Big Brother or the World Cup.

Righty ho-must go. Hope you all have a nice day in the lovely rain. Hugs to all.

Byee
