new June thread - we've been chatting too much!

Ladies, do you have any nice bits to share about post birth? You're freaking us 1st timers out a little Wink

peardrop2 · 02/02/2013 07:48

So we need a Savoy cabbage, tee tree oil, anarca cream, lots of ice trays and black towels. Oh and kitchen roll in the bathroom. Lovely Shock

learnermummy · 02/02/2013 08:01

Arnica tablets rather than cream.
Seriously it is all fine but like the others have said think its better to be a bit prepared. You will feel a bit sore for a while but you'll have a beautiful new baby to look after so you won't care too much. I had a third degree tear first time but it gave me no issues at all. Prunes or lactulose is a good help.
To help things heal it is best to just rest with your baby as much as possible and let everyone run around for you. And if you have stitches/small tear avoid too much walking up and down stairs.

Don't be scared, you will be fine!

peardrop2 · 02/02/2013 08:10

Thank you for the tips...I think Smile Right so arnica tablets and a tub of salt added to the list!

Yay sounds like my blanket buying obsession hasn't gone to waste after reading back the thread! Thanks to the person who reminded me about Tkmax. Will keep an eye out for anais muslins!

AlohaMama · 02/02/2013 08:54

Peardrop, the nice bit is having a beautiful amazing baby to hold, and if you breastfeed, the best and easiest diet in the world - eat cake, do no exercise, and shed pounds!

DontmindifIdo · 02/02/2013 09:09

Ladies, do you have any nice bits to share about post birth? - how about, if you thought you understood your ability to love, you were wrong, once you look at your beautiful child it is the most intense feeling in the world and there's nothing that compares to that. and you can put up with the sore bits/stitches, leaking swollen boobs and destroyed body, because suddenly none of it matters.

What's actually comforting me here (admittedly this may be a bit perverse) is that despite all of this, you have all signed up to do it again, so it can't be as bad as I am imagining in my middle-of-the-night moments!

DontmindifIdo · 02/02/2013 11:59

Forgetmenots - it's not really, I mean, the last bit when you're pushing is hell, but that's a couple of hours out of your life max (most hospitals will move to intervention after 2 hours of pushing unless you insist otherwise), and recovery can be rather hideous, but you get to be a mum. I want another DC more than I want to avoid that. (Although I'm still debating the ELCS option...)

It's not forever, it's coming out one way or another in what is really just a small time of your life, and you'd be surprised how tough you are.

Hello my lovelies, I havent posted since the very beginning but have being lurking Grin.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and we are "team Yellow". They discovered I have/baby has a low lying anterior placenta so that has concerned me slightly as I really don't want a c-section if possible. So im keeping my fingers crossed that everything moves in a better position when they check next time. I am seeing the consultant soon (due to previous premature birth) so I am hoping he will offer me some reassurance.

Great to hear all your news, I will try and post not lurk more often x

MrsBri · 02/02/2013 17:50

Congrats on the scan, Madame...so glad mine is this week; it's torture watching everyone else have them! :-) I'm glad there are a few of us team yellows about.

Baby has been kicking well again today. Enough for DH to feel again too. Must be a strong little bugger! Probably not as strong as forget's is though ;-p

Had a mostly lazy day today after managing about 10 hours' sleep last night, which makes a pleasant change.

Must stand up and be productive now though. Boo!

redwellybluewelly · 02/02/2013 18:00

Apparently I have a "baby pie" in my tummy according to dd (2.6) Hmm

Last night baby went from the occasional wriggle to being the next Olympic gymnast, a hour of watching my stomach move, pushes against my hands and some crazy stretching.

I've also got v sore boobs, feels just like milk coming in but far too early even for a second timer. Ouch.

And I'm going to have to order some jeans, can't kid myself anymore!

MrsBri · 02/02/2013 18:25

Awww...I'd love to be able to see the movements too :-) We'd never leave the house while that was going on!

I'm jealous you stayed in your normal clothes for so long.

redwellybluewelly · 02/02/2013 19:06

Didn't "see" dc1 move until I was overdue! So it really really surprised me seeing movements at 21 weeks but they were there alright.

I've got evening nausea back again, I swear its linked to tiredness and not getting breakfast early enough. I'm now in bed and will be asleep by eight!

MrsBri · 02/02/2013 19:12

I agree about nausea being linked to tiredness / low blood sugar / hunger. I hope you feel better soon.

Well, I hope to see baby move at some point!

AmIGoingMad · 02/02/2013 19:19

Sorry I'm so rubbish on keeping updated and posting front! Congratulations to those of you who've had lovely scans!
Ours will be quite late when I'm 21 weeks and the wait is driving me insane! Redwelly I'm with you on the evening nausea- I also agree as to what makes it worse. I'm totally wiped out at all times at the moment but at least little one is now wriggling around in there! And DS keeps kissing baby in my belly- so cute!
Have read a little back and have to say that I agree totally with the arnica tablets, witch hazel in fridge for putting on maternity pads which I needed far more of than I expected, and alternating salt and tea tree in bath. Also agree that it's all totally worth it and then some. I had a pretty tough time the first time and I'm a little apprehensive this time around but only a little as I know it's such a tiny amount of my life and the incredible feeling I get every time I see/ think of DS wipes that out in a second!

redwellybluewelly · 02/02/2013 19:19

I only saw dc1 move when I was in the bath, she loved the splashing of the water and even now is close to obsessed with water!

And thank you, I'd be shattered anyway after a full week, but on top of only three hours sleep last night and this stage of pregnancy I'm exhausted!

redwellybluewelly · 02/02/2013 19:20

Yes is witchhazel NOT tea tree on the maternity pads. Doh.

learnermummy · 02/02/2013 19:34

Ooh hadn't heard the witch hazel tip - must add it to the list. Just googled it and some people are suggesting putting witch hazel onto pads and then freezing, pref using a bowl to get the curve! Great idea!

Oh and thinking about arnica again I think it's the 200c strength that's best if you can get hold of it.

cyclecamper · 02/02/2013 19:39

I gave in and bought some maternity clothes yesterday. It's so nice to have things not digging into the bump. Smile

The baby is back to normal kicking after a couple of quiet days, which is a relief. I have a weird rash and have had a lot of itching and I was beginning to think that it might be upsetting the baby. I have decided that this is my first experience of irrational worrying, which isn't something that I'm prone to, usually so another milestone Grin!

Littlemissexpecting · 03/02/2013 09:01

Hello all
I have been away for a few days so lots to catch up on.
Bumblebee sorry to hear about your grandad.
Glad to see more good scan news. Has anyone still got a scan to come?
Touch wood my sickness appears to have eased so back to work tomorrow which I'm dreading but got to be done. Been off since Christmas.
I'm still not feeling any definite movements. When should I start getting concerned? I'm 21 weeks this week.
Thanks for all the lists, very useful for me being a first timer. Really appreciate the recommendations, and things we don't need to buy too so thank you and keep them coming!!

Sarah2506 · 03/02/2013 09:10

Hello hello. 21 week scan all good, relief! So different to the private one, they don't speak, we couldn't really see the screen, it's all about measurements! Can't really complain but is a little weird. Also weird- out walking yesterday and in the pub after friend had her tiny dog. I hate dogs, they don't like me. This one set up residence on my lap and refused to move, standing guard! And Bean kicked massively, more movement than I'd ever felt before! Was so strange as she wouldn't go to anyone else except me, despite me giving her no encouragement whatsoever. Has anyone else had such a thing?

MrsBri · 03/02/2013 09:58

Sarah, I couldn't really see the screen at my 12 week scan either. DH could see it, but it was right next to my head. I've a feeling it will be the same on Tuesday. But as you say, it is all about measurements. The scans you pay for are all about looking at baby.

I think dogs do tend to be like that. My friend's dog rests his head on her bump, which is sweet.

Littlemiss, I know there's at least one person being scanned after me, on 11th. I can't recall who though :-/ Not many of us left now, definitely.

I think with first babies, you're not expected to feel baby early. I, and a few others, have been lucky though and have been feeling movement for a good few weeks. I think generally, they expect movement to be felt by 25 weeks.

Sunbeam18 · 03/02/2013 10:12

Littlemiss, I think whether or not you feel the baby move early depends on where your placenta is. They check this at the scan. I was told mine was anterior which means I might not feel much for a couple of weeks yet (I'm 20+5).

forgetmenots · 03/02/2013 10:23

Definitely depends on position. This is my first and I have an anterior placenta so by rights I shouldn't be feeling anything yet. I've been feeling flutters for weeks. But, that said, I think my movements are probably a lot more muffled than others (colleagues have been telling me about actual painful kicks, has never happened to me!)

I suspect though that some of the pains in my back are due to kicks and no placenta cushion!

Littlemissexpecting · 03/02/2013 11:37

Thanks for reassurance. Yep have anterior placenta but still thought/hoped I would feel more by now.
It's. weird, I thought the 20 week scan would reassure me, and the growing bump, and the sickness, but I still worry!
