Pink apples- pay for the scan! We did at 17 weeks and its nice to just relax and spend time looking without it being an against the clock nhs job. And they will rescan until you get the answer. No more nhs scans after now anyway so nice to have another look in a few weeks.

mrsBri - make sure you let the law soc know about the break in your training contract for mat leave. I'm a solicitor too and one girl took her mat leave in the middle of training but didn't let them know and they came sniffing wanting to know what was going on!

Littlemissexpecting · 24/01/2013 15:44

That's me just back from scan and we are team blue!!! We seem to have lots of boys on this thread!
Can someone please update me on the stats thread? I'm not sure how to copy it on my phone.
All healthy which is main thing. Weird to think next time I will be back at the hospital, all being well, is to push him out Shock
Regarding the nursery I would go for jungle, it sounds amazing!

pinkapples · 24/01/2013 16:32

Yea I do love the jungle one but the castle is amazing think I will pay for it in a few weeks probably about 28 weeks ish (the same wait I had between 12 and 20 weeks) so I know either way don't want a castle then it comes out a boy hehe ill update thread tonight if I can as I'm on the phone at the moment or if someone's on a computer add me team pink x

Littlemissexpecting · 24/01/2013 16:51

They gave us a 99% chance of boy. It better be now as just bought my first blue outfit!!! I'm not going to buy much blue/boys colours but I wanted one piece to celebrate today!
DH wants to paint baby room baby blue, I'm not sure Smile
Castle does sound amazing for a girl! Sorry I'm not much help Grin

SunnyL · 24/01/2013 16:58

We're Camp Yellow and I've bought wallpaper with owls on it. Technically the owls have flowers instead of feathers but DH reckons we can man it up with a blue bed spread if we're that bothered.

Personally i have a major issue with the gender discrimination girls recieve - why oh why can you only buy pink girls clothes? I swear I didn't wear pink til I was about 21 and that was only because sports gear only appears to be sold in pink or pastel purple nowadays. My niece is adamant that she only wants to wear pink which I think is mostly down to the images she sees on telly, shops etc. She's been directed to wear pink by godawful corporate firms and shitty adverts on Nikolodeon which I will never let my child watch but that is another argument

pinkapples · 24/01/2013 18:10

I'm with you sunny the castle is purple and if it was green or orange it would be very unisex. But I do love the purple castle so think ill get the scan ad then buy the paper

We paid for a gender scan at 16 weeks and I'd recommend having one. It was amazing, as they could see the gender (girl) straight away so we got to spend the rest of the time having a look at the baby at our leisure. The sonographer was lovely, and showed us all the different body parts, and gave us a glimpse in 4D for a few minutes. We also got a load of photos and a DVD of the scan which is amazing to watch back. It also gave extra reassurance between the 12 and 20 week scans, as they pointed out all the things like the four chambers of the heart, etc. It was £89 including photos and the DVD. The gender was confirmed at the 20 week scan too, so although it was early, they told us the right gender.

The NHS scans are purely for dating or checking for anomalies, so you don't get to see your baby for as long, or the parts that you're interested in.

I've updated the stats thread.

MrsBri · 24/01/2013 18:24

Evening all...well, what a shitty day today ended up being! Some people where I work need to FRO :-/ Or just one evil fucking bitch does, anyway.

Oh, and thanks for the tip Sarah, I'll make sure I let the SRA know :-)

I may have to do more baby shopping later to cheer myself up!

Before my nephew and niece were born I did cross stitches for them, so today I decided I have to do one for my baby. Something nice and relaxing to do once I start maternity leave!

We are painting our walls yellow and have gone for the Little Circus design from Mothercare. My cross stitch has zoo animals on it too. And is rather large!

So excited today. :-) Getting lots of little jabs, but not as much movement as yesterday. Probably knackered!

AmIGoingMad · 24/01/2013 18:26

Congratulations on lovely scan news littlemiss! There do seem to be lots of boys on this thread!

DontmindifIdo · 24/01/2013 18:36

SunnyL - with you there. BTW - if you have a boy, you might find that finding clothes that aren't either blue or army themed is bloody hard too! There are often far less clothes for boys than girls, often in supermarkets there's 2 or 3 aisles of girls clothes and only one for boys. I understand that grown men tend to buy less clothes than woman so for adults it makes more sense to stock more female than male clothing, but do they think the DCs themselves go shopping for clothes?? It's still the mothers who do the bulk of clothes shopping for their DCs of both genders, I don't understand the logic that somehow mums of girls need more options/buy more clothes than mums of boys...

M&S and Sainsburys are quite good for non-blue and non-camoflage for toddler clothes (really, who decided we wanted to dress are scrummy gorgeous toddler boys like Action Men???), as are jo jo maman babe - they have a lot of gorgeous blue girls dresses as well.

I'm going to aim as much as possible if this is a girl to avoid pink, obviously other people will buy her pink, but I'm going to try as much as possible to find other colours. Plus if it is a girl and she has the same "strawberry blonde" (ok, ginger) colouring as DH, then pink really won't suit her...

redwellybluewelly · 24/01/2013 19:13

Anyone wishing to rant against gender stereotypes will find a willing ear here. Look up the pink srinks campaign.

I loathe the pink everything, we deliberately go with bright fun colours but its hard to do pretty without there being pink in there somewhere.

Well. I told my boss this morning. Slightly subdued congratulations but congratulations nonetheless and an offer of extra help to complete my research deadlines. Now I can tell more people and finally think about some maternity wear!

AlohaMama · 24/01/2013 19:32

Oooh sunny I keep seeing lots of cute owl things. But I'm hoping two kiddos will share a too. So no excuse for extra shopping. Ds room is a kind of turquoise blue which I thought was quite gender neutral with no theme as such although as dh and me are both marine biologists there are a lot of fish going on!

Totally agree about the lack of boy clothes. We did manage to get quite neutral baby clothes but once they reach toddler hood its all dinosaurs and cars. Sigh.

AlohaMama · 24/01/2013 19:39

Oops I meant share a room. Bah, can't type!

SunnyL · 24/01/2013 19:43

Oh thank goodness thought i might have upset people with my gender rant. My sister can never quite understand my problem.

I'm hoping to make quitea few of their clothes once they move out of babygro stage. That way i'll have a lot more choice control over colours. Sadly most of the patterns are for girls as well.

MrsBri · 24/01/2013 19:47

I'm with you on the gender rant...I got treated like I'd suggested something awful when I said I wasn't keen on gender specific stuff for the baby!

All very odd.

Oh, and congrats on the scan, LittleMiss...sorry I missed it with my rant earlier.

learnermummy · 24/01/2013 19:56

Congrats on all the scan news and Redwelly you must feel better for breaking the news.
I'm feeling really bad for my DC3 as not planning on doing a nursery at all yet. Will keep baby in with us until decide whether other two are going to share or not. Would love to keep spare room if possible.
I am doing baby a cross stitch though like you MrsBri - did them for the other two and couldn't possibly not this time Smile.

AlohaMama · 24/01/2013 20:05

Goodness I'm feeling inadequate with all this crafty-ness going on. I'm relying on MIL to do cross-stitch for us as she did with ds, and for friends to make similarly beautiful quilts and blankets like last time! I do have a gorgeous book of knitting patterns for knitted toys, so maybe I will break that out again....

Littlemissexpecting · 24/01/2013 20:18

Ella we were in our nhs scan for over 45 mins. She showed us everything she was looking at, and why and explained loads. I do have a medical background though and did ask questions. She was great. Kept us hanging till the end to tell us gender though, but my monkey did have legs crossed under bum until I moved onto my side!
I agree a lot less boy clothes in shops than girls. The main reason I wanted to find out though wasn't so I could buy loads of pink or blue, but there is so little unisex clothes in shops.

learnermummy · 24/01/2013 20:26

I can't knit for toffee aloha - cross stitch is about my limit Smile

AmIGoingMad · 24/01/2013 20:32

I've never really done either but always thought it would be a lovely thing to do so well done those who are craft queens!
Redwelly- glad that telling work went better than you had feared. Another thing less to worry about now!Smile

MrsBri · 24/01/2013 21:14

I'm not crafty at all...but I feel compelled to do this having managed it twice before. And my sister told me today that my niece and nephew love the ones I did for them, which is impetus!

I can do limited knitting. Think I'll leave that to my mum and best mate who are far better at it! :-)

pinkapples · 24/01/2013 21:30

Not a knitter or cross stitcher here I'm afraid however both my grandparents are and my mil is a dab hand with embroidery etc hehe so thinking ill have a lot coming my way and as its an IVF baby shell be pretty spoilt anyway Grin

Decided against the castle although was beautiful but my gut wanted the jungle from the start and ill feel funny if I don't get what I really wanted even if It is a girl we always said it wouldn't be a pinky one and I'd love her to make her own decisions when she's old enough about what she wants not be made a girly girl and the jungle paper has some lovely faces on the animals (if I was going girly there's also some pink flamingos in a nice waterfall hehe)

Still going to go with the gender scan anyway in a few weeks GrinGrin

Sunbeam18 · 24/01/2013 21:49

Lovely scan news from everyone, very exciting! Glad to hear that telling your boss went ok, Redwelly. Big relief.
V impressed with all the nursery plans - we are still miles away from that as BF and I still live in separate (though next-door neighbour!) flats. We're painting mine at the moment to rent out, and I'll move in with him before the baby is born. So much to do... Hope to get it all sorted and settled by end of March. Anyone else in similar situ? X

forgetmenots · 24/01/2013 22:03

Sunbeam not the same but we are hoping to move house, it's proving tough but even if its when baby is newborn, it means there's no nesting going on here. Difficult, isn't it?

I wish I was more crafty, love the little patchwork quilts and knitted things. Luckily DM is pretty nifty. :)

Lovely to hear nice scan news, can't wait for mine now. Pinkapples I love the jungle idea and I think another scan at 30 weeks would break up this huge wait we have til babies arrive!

pinkapples · 24/01/2013 22:10

Thanks forgetmenots Grin
