Thanks for the mention Redwelly and the link Lexi, I've just ordered my mamapack :)

lexi Ask away about anything re the renovation - our house is a small, cottage like Edwardian terrace and was in desperate need of TLC (admittedly, we had no idea quite how much when we started!) what with had about 100 years of rubbish DIY and cheapo botch jobs plus no apparent maintenance for years. The only option was to gut and start again. Big jobs: removing all of the old lath and plaster and replacing with hemp lime plaster and fibre boards / removing a concrete floor by hand and replacing with limecrete....it's been extensive! We're not listed though so we don't have the same restrictions as you'll have. But we have been super thorough so PM me if you want :) Oh and I would highly recommend the following books: Period Property Manual and Old House Handbook as you need to be quite careful how you treat old houses / what materials you use. Some builders / suppliers will look at you as if you are mental when you comment on some of this stuff, but we've done loads and loads and loads of research and quite often those builders / suppliers were wrong and we'd have ended up with problems down the line if we'd had listened to them. Your house sounds gorgeous BTW - good luck! :)

Interesting to hear all of the experiences of cloth nappies v eco disposables. I guess I won't know what fits / suits / works for us until baby's here, so I think I'll just keep an open mind and try a few different things.

Hope all of the appointments go well today.

I must admit after feeling brilliant and optimistic yesterday morning I was feeling all teary and tired at the end of the day yesterday. DH bought dinner to me in bed on a tray so that I could watch telly and slob, which was lovely. I had 9 hours unbroken sleep last night but still feel wiped out today. Someone was very busy yesterday too, so I wonder if we're having a growth spurt / development experimentation going on in there at the moment!!

Waves and loves to all :)

Olimoss · 15/01/2013 16:25

Hi all - just back from Consultant appt and 20-week scan. Baby as unco-operative today as at the 12-week scan, little bugger....but v detailed checks done and all as normal as could be hoped for....and it's a boy. Definite willy action in the screen....will have to stop referring to the baby as 'it' I guess!

Hope everyone else's apps went well today, it's a big relief to get this anomoly scan done when you're ancient like me. Obv no guarantees, but so far so good.

C-section looking likely, due to various factors, will know more at next appt in a month.

suzyrut · 15/01/2013 16:29

Hope all has gone well today amI and sams have my scan on Thursday and will hopefully if this baby chooses to oblige (first time ever) then will be finding out boy/girl not least so I can stop referring to it as "it"

Have taken the plunge and booked a holiday in July, it's only cornwall and baby should be about 5 weeks but early reactions from RL friends is that I must be insane! I remember the early stage being tiring but not that bad, it was a long time ago though so maybe I will live to regret it!

princess my tiredness seems to have come back with a vengence in the last few weeks, I read that they baby doubles in size or weight (can't remember which) in weeks 16 to 20 though so I think you could be right on the growth spurt!

xx

suzyrut · 15/01/2013 16:30

Congrats olimoss brilliant news xx

Sams4lo · 15/01/2013 16:38

So I went and not the best outcome as baby looks like a boy, and now I'm in a complete state after ds1 and ds2 were abruptions :( I'm so scared it will happen again :( sorry to write a negative :(

Hope everyone else is ok :) x

AlohaMama · 15/01/2013 16:46

Congrats olimoss on your boy!

mawgatron I use cloth wipes too (love them) and they do go crispy on the line but as I use them with a bowl of water to wipe it doesn't matter. The fuzzibunz don't go crispy, I think cost they are synthetic fibre not cotton. Inserts are soft micro fibre polyester and outside is fleece polyester.

suzyrut I'm sure you'll be fine. The difficult things will be taking breaks in the journey to feed and get baby out of car seat (depending on where you are coming from). At 6 wks ds was still sleeping and highly portable. We're coming back to UK from Hawaii (24 hrs, 2 flights) with ds1 who will be 2yr4mo and new baby who will be around d 6 wks. Have convinced myself it will all be fine!

DontmindifIdo · 15/01/2013 16:47

Sams4lo - have you seen a consultant about it? Is it more likely with a boy than a girl?

OP posts:
Sams4lo · 15/01/2013 18:09

Seen the consultant and review in 3 wks! For me I've carried two girls and no abruption and the two boys were both abruptions :( so hoping this one goes against the theory! X

forgetmenots · 15/01/2013 18:17

Congrats olimoss that's lovely!

A bit worried (again!) because not feeling the same movement and not feeling very pregnant today :( just a bit sensitive I think! Scan next Friday...

AmIGoingMad · 15/01/2013 18:32

Will catch up properly in a min- quick post as just heading home from work. Got there for appt and she told me that they don't listen now til the 24 wk appt!!!! Wtf!!!! So I see the baby again before hearing heartbeat?!?! My mate in diff hospital but same health board had heartbeat listened to at 16 wks. Feeling a bit sad about it all and very angry!!!

Hawkmoth · 15/01/2013 18:58

My MW said its not recommended to listen to the heartbeat at 16/18 weeks here now. Which is bloody odd because she was my midwife last time. She said if I ask her she will do it though... Tomorrow :)

Olimoss · 15/01/2013 19:01

So weird, this heartbeat stuff. My midwife did at 16 weeks, even the consultant did today....such a little thing that makes such a big difference to peace of mind....can't understand why they don't.

forgetmenots · 15/01/2013 19:10

Mine said (before doing it), 'this absolutely doesn't mean anything, it's just sometimes worth it'. She did stress that I shouldn't get upset if I didn't hear it and that it might be hard to find. I think they worry about upsetting mums needlessly.

learnermummy · 15/01/2013 19:21

They did find my little one's heartbeat at 16 weeks but did stress beforehand that it might be too early and not to panic if they couldn't find it. As forgetmenot said probably don't want to upset people unnecessarily.

MrsBri · 15/01/2013 19:45

My midwife said exactly the same...said if I would panic by not hearing it, I shouldn't have her try.

I'm glad appointments went well. So exciting finding out about the sex of babies :-)

Fx this boy us third time lucky, Sam.

Withalittlesparkle · 15/01/2013 20:54

I'm another whose midwife warned is before hand that you may not hear the heartbeat, she gave us the choice, it was the only reason why DH came with me some gave it a go!! It took ages for her to find it and it was rather terrifying while she was looking for it!

redwellybluewelly · 15/01/2013 21:02

My midwife didnt give any kind of warning but I was a bit later due to Christmas so 17ish not 16 weeks.

suzyrut I dont think you're mad or at least if you are so are we! Thinking of taking dd and dc2 to see friends in south west in late August/early September!

pinkapples · 15/01/2013 21:23

I listened to hb at 15 weeks and midwife never even mentioned it just asked me to get on the bed Grin

Feeling decidedly not pregnant today scared of the scan next Wednesday just have visions of someone saying its stopped growing weeks ago or that there is a problem SadSad

forgetmenots · 15/01/2013 22:08

That's how I'm feeling today pinkapples, a bit unsettling isn't it? Wonder if the baby is resting a bit more because it's using all its energy on a growth spurt iyswim, bump certainly getting bigger.

Sunbeam18 · 15/01/2013 22:10

Congrats on your boy, Olimoss! I have over 2 weeks to wait to find out if mine is blue or pink!
I'm ancient too, Olimoss. Can you tell me if the consultant took age as a factor re possible caesarean? Haven't yet seen consultant so not sure of options. Have been told I won't be allowed to go over 40 weeks at my age due to in increased change of deteriorating placenta (am 40, and will be 40 at time of birth). X

AmIGoingMad · 15/01/2013 22:31

Congratulations on positive scan olimoss and on finding out you're having a boy!Smile

Sams it will all be ok. See what the consultant says when you see them next and discuss your worries with them. And don't apologise for posting a 'negative' - we're all in the same boat with swinging between the positive and negative! I think it's the nature of pregnancy!

Forgetmenots- I know what you mean. I think that's why I was so upset at not even getting a chance at hearing heartbeat. I'm 17 wks today and whilst I understand the disclaimers being given as many of you have said, I would have liked to have the choice. Feel a little cheated! Hopefully little ones will start moving around more for us now to reassure us?! My 20 wk scan is also when I'm 21 wks so even longer to wait- aargh!

I also feel your pain/ pride with renovations- we gutted and pretty much rebuilt our house a few years back- although hats off to you as I wasn't pregnant during renovation!

AlohaMama · 15/01/2013 23:32

Shame they can't leave it to you to decide if you want to try to hear the hearbeat or not. As long as they explain the potential for not hearing something, you would have thought you could make the decision yourself? Fortunately my ob always checks, in the initial appointments it was using one of the internal ultrasoundy thingies and since the 12 weeks appt it is using the external thingy.

Anyway I finally have my scan date - 30 Jan. So excited!

Sarah2506 · 16/01/2013 05:41

Aloha- I'm being noisy and wondering how come you have the uk/Hawaii dimension? Are you English and living out there? Which island?

So ladies, we are on our last holiday for what will be a while. We went to Hong Kong for three days an we are now on a lovely Thai beach before heading home via Singapore and dubai. It's lovely but it's been really hard to adjust with the jet lag. I'm not expecting sympathy- I know how cold it is at home! Wondered if anyone else had found it much harder to adjust to time zone changes while pregnant though? Normally I'd just sleeping pill through it, it Valium if really bad, but not an option for me right now! Doctor said nytol ok if desperate but that doesn't seem to make much difference!

A few of you have said you'd like final holidays before baby so def worth factoring in that everything is harder than normal, much like normal life at home- sun knackers you quickly, feel sick if sunbathing and get too much sun on head, need to drink gallons and wee constantly!

Withalittlesparkle · 16/01/2013 06:47

I feel decidedly unpregnant today too Sad I have my scan two weeks tomorrow and pretty convinced it'll be bad news, despite seeing baby twice on scans and hearing its little heartbeat

forgetmenots · 16/01/2013 07:31

Me too, sparkle. I've been a total worrier since day one (paid for an early scan because I was sure something was wrong...) so trying to tell myself it's not necessarily bad news. But I've gone from feeling baby's 'presence' (not in an airy fairy way, since six weeks I've been able to point to where it is sitting) to not feeling pregnant much at all in the past couple of days, and yesterday was odd. Hoping for flips, kicks and flutters today :(
