new June thread - we've been chatting too much!

Wow, I've only been offline a few days and so much to catch up on - prams, bikini waxes and allsorts!

Had no idea about breaststroke being bad? Last time I swam throughout and found crawl pulled at something in my pelvis, so slow breaststroke was all I could manage. This time I can't even work out when I can find the time to exercise. It's a nice idea but hard to make a reality!!

Had appointment this morning, heard heartbeat (phew), bloods taken for the chromasomal screening thing (results in 2 wks), and referral for ultrasound which should be in about 3 weeks. Can't wait to find out if we get to use our chosen girls name or whether we have to go through tough task of finding a boys name we like as much as ds.

MrsBri · 11/01/2013 07:09

Thatl teach you for buggering off, Aloha! ;-p

I just felt my first real kicks!! Got a full on pounding just now. Think bubs may not like the tightness of my jeans! Hopefully my maternity ones will be in store to collect tomorrow so the complaining can stop :-) The kicking is amazing though!

massagegirl · 11/01/2013 08:47

Proper kicks, that's so exciting! I'm still on flutters, bubbles and flips- dont know how else to describe it. My scan isn't until 22 weeks as with specialists due to problems at beginning. Long time to wait. Saw gp and they listened to hb, took an age to find again, naughty baby but then was nice a strong. Happy nearly weekend everyone!

suzyrut · 11/01/2013 09:23

Congratulations dreamy am so pleased for you. What a great idea on the heatbeat recording as well, have my second scan next Thursday can't wait and will definitely give that a go!

SunnyL · 11/01/2013 10:21

When, WHEN will they invent a sample bottle that a girl can wee into without dribbling all over her fingers??

I've been peeing into sample bottles for years due to having dodgy kidneys so if anyone can pee into these bottles without getting everywhere it should be me. And yet I've come to the conclusion its a flipping impossibility. I'm not even sure blokes can find it that easy?

Sorry minor gripe. Just heading off to my midwifes (or should that be midhusband?) appointment now.

LexiLexi · 11/01/2013 10:32

Haven't been on here since just before Christmas - so much to catch up on!

First of all, congratulations dreamy know you've had a long wait for results, so pleased it's good news!

Anyone else not really done any shopping yet? We're trying to wait until after our 20 week scan on 25th Jan.

The only thing I've bought is a Bloomin' Marvellous tankini which I got in the sales as due to go to the Spa with my Mum. Also would like to start swimming or aqua natal in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the swimming tips, olimoss, backstroke is my favourite though I do feel ever so slightly antisocial so tend not to if the pool's busy.

MrsBri my lovely deep inny has become a flatty over the holidays and I'm convinced it's heading outwards soon...

massagegirl · 11/01/2013 12:01

Lexi lexi... I have bought nothing apart from maternity jeans, they are sooo comfy!'
Great news dreamy, I know how stressful waiting for amnio results is. You must be so happy.

grainmum · 11/01/2013 14:16

Hmm I didn't know about breast stroke either - shame becuase I much prefer it to crawl.

I was bending over to put on my tights today and had the first experience of my breasts resting on my bump! Wierd sensation. Also tights now falling down due to bump - time for some new ones.

AlohaMama · 11/01/2013 16:41

Ah jealous of all those feeling the baby. I'm still only getting very occasional flutters. Last time I loved feeling ds moving all the time. It was so reassuring and such a nice feeling. Still waiting to get a nice bump too, currently just still a little pudgy.

forgetmenots · 11/01/2013 16:50

Lexi our scans are on the same day :) I've bought a couple of wee babygros and my pram but only because it was in the sale!

DontmindifIdo · 11/01/2013 17:48

obviously my "can't be bothered going for waxing as I know it will hurt and therefore using this as an excuse not to go swimming" plan has ended up working out for the best!

Getting lots of little kicks now. It's rather fantastic. Spent the afternoon at a birthday party where a lot of of the other mums have 2 DCs now. It looks terrifying! One told me the hardest bit she found was having to try to entertain a toddler while BFing number 2, that could mean a lot of peppa pig...

dreamydays · 11/01/2013 18:45

Thanks for the congrats everyone! :)

Also getting lots of firm kicks, DH has even been able to feel them at times. And DD shouts into my belly button, probably frightens the life out of the little bean! :)

pinkapples · 11/01/2013 19:58

Still no feelings for me either aloha so jealous of you all but anterior placenta as I said before and it is my 1st so I could be feeling the flutters and not know although I thought I would definitely know the difference never mind only a week and 4 days till my scan in 24th praying bean is still ok although I may have to start calling it something else as it is not a little bean anymore GrinGrin

SunnyL · 12/01/2013 02:50

Ok silly time of night to be awake but my husband is on night shift so i'm having a nice textconversation with him about my first real flutters i think i'm having. He is clearly sitting next to a more experienced father at work or has really been reading the books because he's coming out with some real pearls of wisdom.

LexiLexi · 12/01/2013 07:47

forgetmenots, so excited about seeing baby again and it's less than 2 weeks away for us! :) Still undecided whether to find out if we're having a boy or girl...

On the subject of prams, can anyone recommend a good off-roader? Where we live is rural and when baby's older we'd like to be able to take him/her through some hilly, sometimes muddy woodland tracks.

finally, congratulations Dontmind, dreamy and Sunny on feeling baby's kicks! I'm sure pinkapples and aloha won't have long to wait now...

curlyclaz13 · 12/01/2013 09:25

I haven't felt anything yet either, don't know about the placenta as there is nothing in my notes, don't really look pregnant either ! (18+6) I know rationally this can be normal but I don't feel rational !

DontmindifIdo · 12/01/2013 09:41

Is anyone else having name negotiations already? We've got a boy name sorted I think now (I win!) and we've got down to 2 names on girls. It's hard as DH and I have very different tastes...

OP posts:
MrsBri · 12/01/2013 11:27

We are almost sorted on names, Dontmind. We have similar tastes, which is useful :-)

I have to recommend New Look for maternity wear. Just got mine and it is great. Really good price and comfy too. Advert over!

I'm massive already, curly. Not sure which I'd prefer, as I love looking pregnant.

No more kicks yet today. Boo! Willing baby to get moving!

Withalittlesparkle · 12/01/2013 12:47

We've had our names picked since we started trying (we were at it for 12 months) we've got a girls name and a boys name, and reserves for each as well

dreamydays · 12/01/2013 12:48

lexi we have a Jane Strada and it's been excellent on hills, in mud, for jogging - everything. DD always prefered being on bumpy surfaces so it had a lot of wear! Apart from needing the brakes fixed, it's still in perfect condition (bar a good wash!) for this time round too.

Littlemissexpecting · 12/01/2013 13:29

Don't mind I'm the opposite. I'm finding a girls name easy but not got a clue when it comes to boys names! Hopefully after our scan on 24th we will know one way or another.
I'm going to look online today for pregnancy pillows I think even though DH doesn't think there is enough room in a double bed for one and both of us.
Not been sick yet today so fingers crossed I can get some stuff done. I need to go to sainsburys and can't tackle that on a sat pm as well as sickness!

DontmindifIdo · 12/01/2013 15:27

Oh, I find girls names easy, it's just that DH doesn't agree with my choices and he likes dull middle aged woman names names that sound like his class register from his primary school!

Annoyingly, have just looked at the thread in baby names about pretty names, I'd already suggested Persephone or Genevieve as both names I love but DH absolutely hates (so have been taken off the list as it's not fair to ask him to have a DD with a name he hates), and I have another couple I have loved for a long time that I've nagged in into submission over I'm bringing him round to - it's just between those two now if it is a girl and I'm not sure which I prefer, yet now reading that list, someone has suggested "Lydia". Now, I actually like that too. (and I've always had a soft spot for Lydia Bennet in P&P, she strikes me as a lot of fun!) I'm now considering adding it to my name list, but that makes it 3 girls names I'm arguing for, and then DS's name starts with "L" - that rather starts a trend if we want more DCs to have to give them an "L" name...

Boy name is pretty much sorted, DH and I both like the same shortened name, but we both agree a 'nickname' shouldn't go on the birth certificate. The name we like has 2 possible "long" names (well, actually more, but 2 main ones) and we both like a different one. He's said he's happy to compromise on that, mainly because I think he doesn't think we'll actually use the long name except when telling the boy off (I might have given this impression, but fully intend to use the long name once I've got it on the birth certificate and make sure everyone else does, sneeky, me?!? Wink )

AlohaMama · 12/01/2013 16:48

We have a girls name which we both love, having picked it out for baby 1 who turned out to be a boy. No boys name yet but hope to find out gender to see if we need to think of one or not. It has to be simple though as our last name is very long. And I already feel we gave the best name to ds1 so would be hard to find another boy's name we like as much.

lexi we have a BOB Revolution SE which I love for jogging and bumpy roads. They are really popular here but I don't know how available they are in the UK.

curly I'm still hardly showing but a bit behind you at 16 1/2. Still wearing normal clothes and only gained 3lbs which feels like it is mainly just boobs! Looking forward to a proper bump!

learnermummy · 12/01/2013 18:43

We've struggled with names both times already and find that the older you get/more children you have that more names are 'taken'! Think we'll find out if boy/girl this time to help decide on names! Just hope they don't get it wrong - that's my fear about finding out!

DontmindifIdo · 12/01/2013 19:00

AlohaMama - I know what you mean about having given the 'best' name to DS already, I really felt like the names left on our 'boy name list' were the ones that weren't quite good enough, however we were chatting and DH just suddenly popped out with the shortened version we'll use and it seemed like it would go really well with DS's name. It wasn't on our last list so does feel like a new name just for this bump (if it's a second boy).

We didn't have a girl name we loved, we were arguing on the drive to the hospital while I was having contractions about girl names. I think that's also fed into the "let's find out this time" feeling!!! (It would have made that drive a lot less stressful if I wasn't trying to argue my case for a name I love while remembering to breath properly!)
