AmaDablam · 27/12/2012 16:13

Thanks to all those wishing me and others who suffered over Christmas well. I do feel a lot better today and really hope that I'll be better still at New Year, especially as we are going away with friends and don't want to be too much of a party pooper!

Good-ish news on the cystitis front too - GP reckons it's the non-bacterial kind, although a sample has been sent off to the lab for testing just in case. It's not pleasant but I can put up with it if I know it's not something that's potentially going to harm the baby. Also means I can stop taking those pesky antibiotics which I'm convinced were exacerbating my sickness.

flying that does seem awfully late for your first scan - I though I would be one of the last in the group on 9th Jan! I don't suppose there'd be any mileage in ringing up and seeing if they can bring it forward? Also good on you for going skiing, although I don't think I'd brave it. I seem to have turned into a total wimp since getting pg - DH hasn't even managed to persuade me to go for a gentle bike ride yet, since I read somewhere that you should avoid it due to "risk of falling", which my midwife herself says is totally ridiculous!

Cheeseandbread · 27/12/2012 16:22

Congratulations to those who have had good scans.

Ama glad you're feeling better.

Flying I'm Sussex way and I had an early scan at First View Imaging in Fareham. It was an early Christmas present from my parents. It was also one of the cheaper ones I researched (£60 for dating scan) and had good reviews.

ArkadyRose · 27/12/2012 16:40

Thinking DD3 is 5; she'll be 6 in May. She's been talking about wanting a little brother or sister anyway - plus she'd noticed me being queasy all the time, so she's obviously old enough to be noticing what's going on and work out something's happening.

Ama We're scan twins - my 12 week scan is on the 9th Jan. So no, you're definitely not one of the last!

Glad those scanning had good scans today. I had to redo my nuchal fold screen on the NHS today and was surprised by how much the been had grown - could see fingers, toes etc and looked like a real baby - just v v tiny!

Tricky - I suffered from bad leg cramps when pregnant with DS1 and DS2 - mag phos tablets helped (you dissolve under your tongue).

Ama- hope the cystitis shifts soon. I did gentle bike rides when pregnant with DS2 - it was fine but your centre of balance does shift over time.

Flying, Tricky - friends I know continued cycling and horseriding in the first couple of trimesters. I'm continuing exercising (bodycombat, weights, pilates, yoga, boxing training) but its non-contact (apart from the boxing training which is pad work). I used to kickbox before I got pregnant with DS1 and gave it up as soon as I found out I was pregnant as it was too much risk. The advice is its fine to continue with things you did before gettting pregnant but not to take up anything new now. I have dialled down the high impact though as just didnt feel quite right.

Arkady - so sweet about your DD3 being so excited about the baby. DS1 wants a little brother and DS2 wants a little sister in our house - I've explained there is only one baby in there so one of them is giong to be disappointed...

GingerJulep · 27/12/2012 17:44

trickybarmby, I'm afraid I gave up horse riding when we started ttc and won't be (ice) skating any more either... for me the risk of falling isn't worth it for just a few months of hobbies.

Midwife is very supportive of upping my swimming and, with reduced jumps, I'm starting to dance again after time off with constant nausea.

Everyone has to make their own calls but I'm happy to miss out on one or two fun things for the sake of the baby - agree that that missing exercise altogether would be bad though.

Cutandstick · 27/12/2012 19:48

Congratulations on the good scan results!

esme It's my first and I'm showing already and in maternity trousers apart from joggers and leggings! I put it down to having NO stomach muscles before hand Blush

BadMissM · 27/12/2012 19:59

My first proper scan not until 4th January...pretty late. As am going for Harmony Test due to my age, have a scan (privately) on the 31st.

esme showed really early with DD and baby before, but this time, can hardly tell!

dinkystinky · 27/12/2012 20:14

BadMissM - a friend of mine had the Harmony test and was really reassured by the results.

paolocee · 27/12/2012 21:15

Congratulations y'all on the good scans. We had our twins scanned today - 11 weeks on the money - and saw two healthy wee plums. One measured a week ahead of schedule at 12w, the other at 11w2d.

I'd been bricking it as our Doppler machine had only been picking up fairly low heart rates (120, 95) but both were around 160 today. All that worry caused by something that's supposed to reassure. Oh well. And Donna still has godawful nausea, poor thing.

Anyway, good luck to all those having scans over the next week or so, and best wishes to all those who've had bad ones. We've been there. We know how it feels. But it will get better.

GeorgieWilson · 27/12/2012 22:04

Hi Everyone,

Congrats to everyone who had good scans! Seeing the twins must have been exciting paolo!

I had a private scan last weekend as my NHs isn't until I'm 13 + 5 and wanted to do some Christmas telling. Everything was fine thankfully! The sonographer did a bit of 4d scanning while we were there - not sure I was keen on that, is anyone planning to get one done later on?

Rubbish to everyone who has been ill over Christmas, hope everyone feels better soon.

Flying I'm booked to go snowboarding at the end of Feb, booked and paid for literally two days before I found out about our little surprise! Have been wavering what to do for a few weeks now, earlier on I thinking it will be fine if I take it easy on the slopes and do lots of relaxing and hot chocolate drinking. But I think I'm probably going to end up not going, not so well protected by then, I'm not a great boarder anyway and besides the huge worry of anything happening to the bean I guess even if I broke my arm or had any other issues my insurance probably wouldn't cover me and its just not worth it! Gutted though!

marimama · 27/12/2012 23:26

Hi everyone! Sounds like everyone had a lovely christmas! Smile

I had an early scan today & all was well. We told my DS today. He will be 3 in april, so he's a bit young, but i felt bad whispering with DH about it and not telling him...i think he could sense something was going on. Anyway, he is very excited, keeps saying "i love the baby, mama!" and today he thanked the woman doing the scan and was delighted to think the baby waved to him on the screen. Very sweet and his enthusiasm, along with seeing kicky feet and wavy arms today has helped me to finally feel more excited myself!!

I am really eager for sickness to pass so i can start exercising again. I just can't manage it now...

shelley72 · 28/12/2012 06:39

hope everyone had a good christmas despite all the MS going on and congratulations on all the positive scans.

hardly slept, my turn for the dating/NT scan today. not looking forward to it and feeling very apprehensive (as is DH and thats most unlike him). have still only told immediate family - not even DCs yet as didnt want to tell if there was nothing to tell IYKWIM and DS so wants a baby.

i do realise i sound so negative but i am worried, i just want good news today. we have had happy news in our family this week (impending wedding Smile) and i really dont want to bring everyone down.

right off to get ready for my appt and drink lots of water! DH is taking me out afterwards whilst we have a few child free hours (thanks mum!).

YikesHereWeGo · 28/12/2012 07:08

Good luck shelley!!

Runswithsquirrels · 28/12/2012 07:36

shelley it's my scan as well today and I also can't sleep! So anxious! I'm also worried all that water is gonna make my bladder burst as it really doesn't hold much these days. I think I might cheat and drink less than 750ml! I hope it goes well for you and that we both have good things to post later!

esme80 · 28/12/2012 09:00

The sonographer who did my scan told me I didnt need to have my bladder nearly as full as I did when I had my scan, so wouldnt worry too much...
Good luck both of you!

flyingsprocket · 28/12/2012 09:16

tricky dinky I don't do any contact sport but I do a lot of exercise. I've continued to run 3 times a week & if it wasn't so damn muddy I'd be out on my mountain bike. Exercise keeps me sane!

I'm a bit apprehensive about skiing. The holiday was booked & paid for before we found out. Initially I'd decided not to ski but having spoken to the midwife I think I'll have a go. Nothing too mental just some gentle runs! I used to snowboard georgie but I was pretty bad at it- I find the falls are much more violent on a board so it'd be a different decision for me regarding boarding I think.

cheese thanks for the unit about Fareham, I might combine a trip there with shopping at Gunwharf Quays!

Good luck for today's scans!

dinkystinky · 28/12/2012 09:18

Good luck for the scans today. Glad you had a good scan Paolocee and step away from that doppler - guaranteed to have you worrying about everything and anything!

Georgie - can you go on the holiday but use it as an opportunity to read by the fire, go for walks, have a massage or two and just chill? Seems a shame not to enjoy the time away if you've already booked and paid for it.

Runs - you really dont need to drink all that much water. Just drink your normal amount and dont go to the loo immediately pre-scan.

AmaDablam · 28/12/2012 09:44

Wow, so impressed to hear all you ladies that have continued exercising, and in quite adventurous ways too! I'm ashamed to say I've hardly done anything since finding out, and am usually quite an active, outdoorsy person. I partly blame the nausea and tiredness but the weather hasn't helped either, in my defense. I'm hoping to get some proper walking in when we are away for New Year in North Wales. DH has been trying to persuade me that climbing will still be OK, but I am putting my foot down at that! I'm not even risking belaying as I have been known to get yanked into the wall when he takes a fall, plus I'd worry about passing out, throwing up or just loosing concentration - not great when someone's life is potentially in your hands! I guess it's all down to weighing up the risk and deciding what you personally can manage, but as several others have said, giving up a few hobbies is much the same as giving up drinking and all those foods we can't have for a few months - a small price to pay for a healthy baby.

Lots of luck to lose having scans today and great news for those that have had them Smile

AmaDablam · 28/12/2012 09:46

Sorry - obviously meant to say "lots of luck to those

paolocee · 28/12/2012 09:58

Good advice, dinkystinky. I'll cram it in the "bad buy" cupboard with the cross-trainer made from twigs and the musical egg-poacher.

Beginningofthejourney · 28/12/2012 10:54

I have my 12 week scan today, the world and his wife already know I'm expecting due to my mum and nan being far too excited! Good luck everyone else today look forward to checking in later x

elliejjtiny · 28/12/2012 10:55

Good luck with the scans shelley and runs.

Has anyone thought about how they are going to announce the birth? Last time we phoned both sets of grandparents in the delivery room and asked them to tell the siblings and PIL to tell DS1 and DS2. We went home that night and then were readmitted the next morning. When we came home later that day I went to post a facebook announcement and my sister had already done one. I was not impressed at all especially as we hadn't even announced the pregnancy on facebook (or to many people in rl) as DS2 has special needs and we didn't want people making comments like "aren't you worried the baby will be like DS2" etc.

Not sure what to do this time. I feel like telling PILs in the delivery room and phoning my family when we get home. I can write my facebook announcement and then just press "post" as soon as I've told them. DH thinks this would be really mean though.

I also want to tell DS1 first but not sure how practical that would be as I tend to give birth in the night and he is a bit young to answer PIL's phone!

Cutandstick · 28/12/2012 10:56

Good luck shelly and run Smile my sonographer had me emptying my bladder straight away so she could see the baby better, all that leg crossing for nothing!! Lol!

dinkystinky · 28/12/2012 11:10

Found out yesterday that my old babysitter's DD is expecting the month after me - now that made me feel like an elderly mother to be! I remember her DD being born!!

Ellie - I got DH to call my mum and his after the birth, texted sisters on both sides and our nanny. After DS2 was born, DH went home from the birth centre to tell DS1 that he had a little brother when he woke up that morning and we came home later. Announced via FB several days later but then I dont really use the evil book that often/much...

Good luck for your scan Beginning!

Runswithsquirrels · 28/12/2012 11:53

Well the scan was amazing, I burst into tears when I saw the beating heart which made my belly shake and the picture wobble. We saw an arm and fingers, and one leg. DP got a better view as he was right behind the sonographer. I feel I can relax a little now - until I find something else to worry about!

I hope everyone else is having a good day.

As to exercise - I intend to return to running when I have something resembling energy again. Soon I hope.

13 +3 (just gained three days and now due July 2nd).
