Another lover of game of thrones here orange, DP also a big fan and devoured all the books. And I'm also another who has avoided 50 shades like the plague, being rather prudish and hearing several reports of poor writing style. That said I did read twilight by accident (ultimate guilty secret), oddly compulsive and made me feel like a teenager again Grin

Had booking in today, at hospital for 2.5 hrs! Mw had a paper cut and bled on my notes so had to start again... But scan booked for 4th jan in time for return to work on 7th, so I won't have to hide any 13 week bulge Smile

MrsMillions · 14/12/2012 23:31

Thanks for the welcome, orange and dinky. On mobile app so can't add myself to the list (have my stars bolded your names even, I wonder) but will do when I can log in from computer at home.

DH and I both had Xmas do's tonight so got a hotel room in town, booked before BFP. I managed 3 hours at mine without too many questions about my lemonade, now snuggled up in the room wondering how much longer he'll be and what state he'll be in. He is quite funny when tipsy but I could do without drunken snoring!

MrsMillions · 14/12/2012 23:32

Ooh the stars worked, your names are bold. V pleased with myself for figuring that out at this time of night!

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2012 01:10

cotton we declined too. Partly because we knew we didn't want amnio/cvs and didn't want to be pressured into having it if the nuchal etc came back high risk. Also we both have EDS (hypermobility) so baby has 3/4 chance of having it at all and something like 1/4 of having it severely like DS2 does. I find the maternity people aren't that bothered about it because you can't test for it before birth so they just ignore it and let the paeds deal with it if it comes up. I knew if I had a "high" risk for downs syndrome like 1/50 and the drs were more bothered about that than the hypermobility I would probably go into a hormonal rage Grin

Cheeseandbread · 15/12/2012 07:39

Cotton DH and I are thinking about declining the Down's syndrome testing as like someone else said we wouldn't want to take the tests further and risk Miscarriage. We have until the booking in appointment next Friday to decide.

I too have read 50 shades books but found them very repetitive and not well written- I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. But by the third book it was getting a bit tedious- skim read most of it.

Regarding telling people we have told both sets of parents and friends as we have seen them as I haven't been drinking, and just very excited! I know it's early but like others have been saying better to have support if things go wrong. Haven't told work yet though. I'm not being sick so there hasn't been a need to. Any advise from other teachers on here as to when to tell the head? Guava I know you told yours already because of sickness but would you have told otherwise?

Also loving the Pringles- no excuse from me for curing sickness the other day when I nearly ate a whole tub.

Congrats on all the scans- getting itchy now for mine Monday week - Christmas Eve!!

Any news from thinkingof4? Hope everything is ok.

AmaDablam · 15/12/2012 09:08

Morning everyone and welcome and congrats newbies, from another relative newbie and ex-lurker!

Lots to catch up on as I didn't even feel up to getting the laptop out last night. DH decided to cook roast chicken and whilst I'm absolutely not complaining (I am blessed in that he loves cooking and is better than me at it!), it was not ready until nearly 9, so all I could do was lie in a heap on the sofa moaning about how sick I felt, and wanting to retch at all the yummy smells coming from the kitchen Sad

Also had some bad news at work yesterday - basically we're a staff member down with immediate effect at a time when we're already on our knees with work overload. I almost told everyone about the baby as I felt we needed some cheerful news, but held back in the end.

On the subject of telling/not telling I've been interested to read people's views and in many ways agree with the whole 12 weeks thing being a bit silly. However, the reason I've not told work yet as I know some of my colleagues would go into excitement overdrive (one in particular is my mum's age, her eldest is my age and she is desperate to be a grandma - I know she will view me a sort of surrogate!) and it would just be heartbreaking to have to tell them it hadn't worked out after all. That said I would definitely be open about it if I had a MC as I know they'd be understanding.

Think I will have to tell boss next week as it only seems fair given that a load of work now needs reallocating which will have implications far beyond July. Dreading it as she is not the type of person who will be particularly congratulatory (doesn't have kids herself and we all suspect she doesn't like them much) and will just see it in terms of loosing another worker in a few months time!

ellie you have my utmost sympathy with the cystitis. I am a frequent sufferer of both the bacterial and non-bacterial kind and quite frankly am amazed that I've not (touch wood) had it yet since being pg.

Whilst I'm on that sort of subject does anyone know what thrush treatments are safe during pg? Another old enemy of mine, which I suspect has started to rear its ugly head over the past few days.

On a positive note, I'm off Christmas shopping as soon as I can muster the energy and we're finally getting round to putting our tree up.

Have a great Saturday all Xmas Grin

Morning all.... my work do last night, didn't drink and didn't mention it and no one asked.. So, my work people have suddenly become very diplomatic (unlikely as most were wrecked), they already guessed, or maybe its just no big deal to not drink on a work do. So, those of you worrying about it, try not too! (btw I am usually there with the wrecked crowd Xmas Blush).

Thanks for the comments on the downs testing. Makes me feel a bit better to hear a range of opinions. Think I would have had the scan if offered, and was a bit suprised it wasn't as had read so much about nucal measurements.

Didn't want to sound preachy as it is a totally personal decision, but DH grew up with a family member who has downs. Also, knowing the risks of the invasive tests (very sorry to say it ended badly for a friend) I just couldn't do the test and risk miscarriage or probably terminate either. however, I'm sure you can't even think about that making decision until you are put there..
Aware that this could be a sensitive issue for people so I don't mean to offend anyone at all, just hear different views. Need to try and forget my friends comments as the decision is the parents alone and all others should respect that whether they agree or not..

Right, time for christmas shopping. Brave the crowds..

Welcome newbies and great to hear of more scans.

OhGood · 15/12/2012 09:36

guavas I just finished the whole Game of Thrones series - not my sort of thing at all but I got totally hooked - went on Kobo to buy the next one and found to my utter horror that HE HAS NOT WRITTEN THE LAST TWO BOOKS YET!

Was reading about it and found that the poor guy has been a bit blocked and is feeling huge pressure from his 15 million fans to finish it. What a situation to be in!

MightBeMad · 15/12/2012 10:08

Hello all. Mad busy with work and Christmas prep so not managed to get on much the last few days. I haven't read 50 shades either! Seems like there are a lot of us.

Welcome to the newbies and congrats for all the good scans. Ellie we'll keep everything crossed for you.

Have been feeling a bit rubbish here but the last couple of days my symptoms have eased a bit. Not sure if it's temporary or more permanent but I'm trying to appreciate it while I can. Still getting brown and trying not to fret. I've got another private scan booked for fri to give me done pre Christmas reassurance! Had booking appointment on Thursday and scan 7 jan!

Hello, have been feeling too ill to post recently, flad there's been lots of good scans.
Just wanted to say- having previously been the queen of cystitis, having studied nutrition and done research on it- do not drink cranberry juice when you have cystitis-total disaster as it is full of sugar which is basically rocket fuel for the bugs causing cystitis. If you can find cranberry tablets then yes but nothing with sugar in.
Hope you feel better soon ellie, pregnant and cystitis - gaaah!

Bessie123 · 15/12/2012 10:45

princessllama I have been thinking about you. Sorry you not well - is it sickness or non pg-related?

AmaDablam · 15/12/2012 11:09

Just want to second princessllama on the cranberry juice not being great for cystitis advice. I was once told by a dietician that whatever is in it that is "good" for cystitis is there in such small quantities you'd have to drink gallons for it to have any effect. This would then be counteracted by the acidity and high sugar content, both of which are big no-no's when you're suffering.

I swear by simply flushing through with as much plain water as I can manage, along with antibiotics if it's bacterial.

Cutandstick · 15/12/2012 11:13

Hey cheese also a teacher, and ended up telling the head crazily early - because one of those illnesses we should avoid in my classroom. Quite glad I have, however been off work for a few weeks with bronchitis and worry they think I'm being a pg sap.... Hormonal paranoia.

Think I'll look into game of thrones as I've been reading pure dross since being off. Wink

magoosmom · 15/12/2012 14:22

Hi all, so after worrying about my nausea disappearing it's now back with a bang, DS having a nap and I'm lying on the couch groaning ! Relieved it's back tbh it's only way of knowing all is well Smile eating all the wrong things to keep the nausea at bay, had a Big Mac at 11.30am today Blush to be fair I have been up since 5.40am with DS. I was exactly like this with DS. I'm usually fit and in shape and love clothes so am a bit disgusted with myself for all the scoffing I do Blush
I've suffered from cystitis for years and agree that you should avoid cranberry juice, what really worked for me is Waterfall D Mannose, I bought it from the sweet cures of York website, it's suitable to take while pregnant and you can take it every day to ward off any infection, might be something worth considering for anyone who regularly gets cystitis .
Have nothing bought for Xmas, finding it really hard to get organised. Have my work Xmas party on Friday night , I've a big belly and nothing to wear, I'm usually the one hogging all the red wine so I'd say everyone will guess Grin I wouldn't mind them knowing but one of my colleagues just had a miscarriage at 10 weeks last week so I'd prefer to keep it to myself for a few weeks.
Hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend Grin

Cheese I was hoping to tell them after 12 wk scan, the sickness prompted me to tell HT and my TA, and then my TA might have meningitis so I had to tell the deputy who was dealing with it at the time. Otherwise I would def have waited.

Guavasforbreakfast · 15/12/2012 15:07

Ohgood luckily I'm still only at the beginning of Dance with Dragons, trying to make it last as long as possible but I still think it'll be 2014 Sad
Poor guy though, the pressure is probably what's putting him off!

Thinkingof4 · 15/12/2012 15:12

Hello all and welcome to the newbies
I'm pleased to say my scan went really well, baby was like a little jumping bean and took ages to do all the measurements. It was only just big enough to do the nuchal testing (46mm, cut off is 45mm) and best of all she put my due date forward to 2nd July so 2 days further on than I thought. Lovely to see my tiny baby waving at ms Grin
I'm in the forewarned is forearmed camp wrt testing, but not sure what i would do if they come back high risk...nt was only 0.7mm to hoping I don't have to make that decision. There is a rare genetic condition on dh side of the family, and well aware every pregnancy is a gamble really.
We have only told my sister and that's because she is pg too and due exactly 2 weeks before me! It's been nice to share stuff with we, but I'm looking forward to surprising everyone with our big announcement at Christmas. My parents esp my dad are such worriers so I has always waited till end of first trimester to tell them (or anyone else).
However 2 close friend have guessed and my work pretty much know too now!
When I had my MMC I did tell family and close friends so I had support, but it wasn't common knowledge iyswim. I'm quite a private person so really wouldn't have wanted everyone to know
Ellie have you tried barley water for cystitis? I've found that helpful, or even just putting some bicarbonate of soda in water, but doesn't taste too good

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 15/12/2012 16:53

Hi, how long did it take everyone to get their booking in appointment date? I still don't have mines and have no idea how far along I am. Confused

ArkadyRose · 15/12/2012 16:56

Schro, usually you'd get it around 8-10 weeks around here. I was seen at 7 weeks, but that's because I'm high risk for mc.

glad you had a good scan too thinking

Thanks for all the cystitis advice. The only things I can drink without puking seem to be anything loaded with sugar, grr. I'm finding if I drink loads symptoms disappear but as soon as I relax a little they come straight back. Oh and DH is in a grump because of the lack of sex, even though it's only been a day.

We've told PIL, BIL and SIL and that's it so far. Hopefully for as long as we can get away with. DH is a bit of an over sharer though so it will be a struggle to reign him in. I remember years ago pre-children I was at a new years eve party and my mum and her friend were talking loudly about how their pregnant friend had protein in her wee and I thought there's no way I'd want people talking about me like that. I tend to avoid telling people stuff like that which drives my mum mad with frustration. Thankfully for her my dsis is the total opposite and texted my mum regular updates while she was in labour. I will probably just ring when the baby is born.

Grannyapple · 15/12/2012 19:59

Hi ladies...hope everyone is well-ish!

Had my early scan today...all good so have r

Grannyapple · 15/12/2012 20:08

Damn...posted before finished.

We have told dh's siblings (he's 1 of 5) & close friends today. Tis weird...I have seen the baby & heartbeat & everything but it still doesn't feel that "real", if you know what I mean? Guess it will after booking in appt & nuchal scan.

Can't remember who said about thrush, but I too suffer from it when pg. Doc said to me that pessary & cream are fine to use as normal, just not the oral form. I did get a pharmacist who refused to sell it me when I was 34wks pg so just went to supermarket to get it. Doc said some are a bit nervous about giving it to heavily pg women cos they think it should be in prescription at that stage & because I had recurring bouts thoroughly pg.he gave me a script but said next time send someone else to buy it for you as no questions will be asked then!

Shattered today....nearly fell asleep in hairdressers earlier. Dinner, strictly on catch up & then bed me thinks. Last few bits of Christmas shopping to be done tomorrow then all finished (thank god!). Tho got some homebase brownies to bake tomorrow for ds's nursery workers gifts...

Grannyapple · 15/12/2012 20:10

Damn it throughout not thoroughly, & homemade not homebase.....tsk!

Guavasforbreakfast · 15/12/2012 20:11

Hehe *ellie my DP is in a similar grump but probably more justified as I've felt far too ill for about a month now Shock.
