Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

utopian Best to do after you've had a bath or shower. You need to be in a comfortable position to do the massage - lying on your back or perhaps one foot on the bath. You should use an oil, I think they recommend olive or sweet almond (don't quote me! I bought a 'special' expensive one at a baby show. I'm such a pushover!) and at first you gently massage the area between vagina and anus for a couple of minutes. Then you insert fingers or thumbs about 1/2 cm into your vagina and and gently rub kind of pulling towards your anus. This is from memory of the instructions I used last night. Anyone else give any clearer/more acurate instructions?
I found it quite awkward to do but hoping it will get easier.

emilyeggs · 08/11/2012 10:39

spotty it says the HC is encroaching the 95th centile and AC is over 95th centile. Is that it?

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2012 10:49

I expect all hospitals do the plotting differently but to me, although he/she (?) is big the AC is not out of proportion with the HC which is something which can cause complications with diabetes if that makes sense? Gestational diabetes or not sounds like they're just on the big side

emilyeggs · 08/11/2012 10:56

So you mean if they were very different that's more likely to be GD? Also will it matter what I eat for lung before blood test? Thanks spotty Smile

emilyeggs · 08/11/2012 11:02

Oops I meant lunch Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2012 11:14

If they were very different it's more likely to be a complication from GD but I don't know enough to say anymore or whether or not you have it. I think you should just eat what you would normally eat if you have got it it won't make much difference at this stage. Remember you're quite far gone, nearly at the end so if you have got it it won't be for long!

emilyeggs · 08/11/2012 11:32

Do you think it's something I could have avoided? I did get a bit of a sweet tooth during pregnancy, never had one before and was never bothered with sweet things until pregnant (not that I've eaten tons) I haven't put on any weight other than my neat bump Confused

Secondsop · 08/11/2012 11:39

emily no, although there are risk factors for getting it such as diabetes in the family and raised BMI, GD comes about through the hormones produced by the placenta making us more insulin resistant as the pregnancy progresses so it's nothing you've done, it's just one of those things.

Walnut8 · 08/11/2012 11:57

2blessed/utopian, the instructions I had involved a lot less "massage" and a lot more stretching from memory (re perineal massage) ... I got DH to do it. I should really look it up and start again, although currently treating thrush so not likely for the next week or so Hmm

Clarella, if you were asked to stay longer for mental health reasons, I'd imagine you'd just be put in with other women in a post labour ward? Many women stay on for a variety of reasons, including those that have had a csection or whose babies need supervision. I'd say most hospitals wouldn't have the space to keep you there for more than a few days however unless there was a high risk to you or baby?

stacks no replacement yet??

Clarella · 08/11/2012 12:35

Thanks for views, .mw thinks total nonsense and they'll want me out pdq and then she will .br visiting, perinatal counsellor has called this doc I'm about to see to tell him to call hospital to say no need. I think the consultant thanks I can't cope with pain and lack of control - I keep trying to tell her about my grumbling appendix my mum thought was wind (was an infected nearby gland but flared frequently when a teenager) martial arts training and working with very physically challenging children not to mention riding and being thrown any number of times cos I was a bit 'gung ho'. I'm not even on anti depressants ffs .

WeeJo08 · 08/11/2012 13:51

Honey That's fab about Dash getting home! So happy for you :) Hope you're getting lots of at-home snuggles with him.

Emily Hope you're okay.

Stacks I finish next Friday too at 36+4...I think you're due the day before me? I'm due on the 10th.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/11/2012 14:21

TMI alert right do since coming home at 12.30 I have vomited twice and had awful diahrea (sp?) and my cervix has come forwards (I can now reach it, couldn't yest) is this things starting? I would be very happy if it was!

Queenofsiburbia · 08/11/2012 14:41

stacey call hospital midwife about this.
I had similar a few weeks ago & 3am panic that it was indeed labour (stomach cramps where so strong & regular, I was able to time them!!)
Anyway they told me to stay away but keep in touch over phone.
They were right I had 48hr D&V bug (sweeping the nation apparently)so would not have been popular in a hospital!!

Was a shocker though, I couldn't eat or drink, not even water for 36 hrs, then just water.

Hope it's a bug & it goes very soon but do let them know just in case!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/11/2012 14:46

No stomach cramps although plenty of BH. And I've eaten since (a piece of dry bread) with no vomitting. Was very uncomfy so came for a bath but gotta get dcs in half hour so should prob get out! Lol

Cookiesandcream06 · 08/11/2012 14:57

stacey do you have a ball to rock on? Mine has been helping me, along with baths. Not so relaxing once you've collected dcs though.

I had dioreah (spl!) last night followed by feeling v nauseous for several hours. Freaked me out as v similar before labour last time, and been emptying bowels lots which has not been the case for 8 months!! is your cervix noticbly moved did you say? Any mucus or slight bleeding ?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/11/2012 15:30

Yeah cervix is now within reach which it hasnt been for ages. No bleeding and only snot like mucus when I wipe. But not loads iykwim.

Well the school run was pure hell, I feel like death atm. Having a lay down now. God knows what's going on! Lol

Stacks · 08/11/2012 15:53

WeeJo yup, due on the 9th. Have you also got suddenly exhausted? I'm regretting decision to work next week, but it's an extra week of pay.. just have to keep telling myself that.
Also, if my handover documents aren't up to scratch, what are they actually going to be able to do about it!? I'm off forever a year, and I'll just change my mobile number if they bother me! You can't get fired while on ML can you?

Stacey it could very well be things starting, but unless you're pre-37w I probably wouldn't bother calling the MW. Just see how the next few hours/days go. Though, my MW hasn't really been particularly friendly, so I'm not sure I'd ever consider calling her... I'll just phone the MLU direct when I think I'm in labour.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/11/2012 16:03

I'm only 34+4 but I won't be calling anyone until I know. There's no pains or anything ATM so I'll just put it down to normal pregnancy shitness.

WeeJo08 · 08/11/2012 16:28

Stacks Yes! The thought of next week just makes me want to curl up in a ball (if I could!) I am taking the first week off as annual leave, do ML starts officially at 38 weeks to try & boost the finances!! My work also have a good (new) system where instead of accruing annual leave to use up at the end I get paid for it (and any bank hols) each month. I'm also totally "meh" about handover - I just want to say "Figure it out! I had to!!" Though that might bd hormones screaming talking!

EggsMichelle · 08/11/2012 16:45

I'm 36wks today, and I'm fed up! Went out for lunch with DMIL and DSIL who I love to bits, but trying to keep up with them whilst they walk normally and I waddle is so uncomfortable. I'm now crashed out on my DMs sofa recovering and enjoying the revolting reflux!

MyDaydream · 08/11/2012 16:50

I'm exhausted without going out to work, all I've achieved from my day is doing a load of washing! Slept really badly last night due to an ill advised pint of juice right before bed.

Can I ask a possibly stupid question to you ladies who've done this before? Do they cut the cord before or after you deliver the placenta? And can I cut it myself if DP doesn't want to?

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2012 16:56

emily it's absolutely nothing you have or haven't done, let us know how you get on :)

Stacey Hope you're feeling better? How are your sugar levels? Being ill can really effect them...

I made Nigella's Chilli Jam today as part of my 'homemade Christmas' it was really easy and looks yummy!

Eggs hope you don't ache too much tomorrow! I'm feeling surprisingly well today, can breath and walk etc, I'm sure it won't last more than a day though.... maybe have a day of rest tomorrow?

I got my appointment through too see the anaesthetist I don't see why he can't just see me when I'm at the antenatal clinic because now I have to see him on the monday, go in tuesday for special diabetic retinopathy screening and the wednesday for dd t get her casts fitted, bearing in mind it's 30-40 minutes drive and £1.60 an hour to park it's going to cost me a fortune Angry

Also has anyone else been getting weirdly obsessed with smells? with dd I loved the smell of shower gels/shampoo etc but this time I can't get enough of bleach/vinegar/general cleaning stuff Blush

EggsMichelle · 08/11/2012 16:56

And YouTube have a good massage video (fake vagina!)

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2012 16:57

MyDaydream google delayed cord clamping. Providing all is well either of you can request to cut the cord :)
