Good news Honey

Glad movements are back to normal Stacey

I hope all the brave souls who ventured out to displays and bonfires had a good time. We stayed home and had some in the garden and had burgers and hot dogs, yummy Smile

I've finished getting things for the baby now, we got a cot mattress and linen for the cot and pram yesterday, so now we've got all the essentials. I also talked dh into trying out a Babasling with the weighted doll they had in the shop. He was quite taken with it, so I'm now trawling ebay. Of course I know what he really wants is a big back carrier so he can take the baby on expedition with the Explorers Grin

Feeling very tired today as I had a bad nights sleep, still tucked up in bed while dh is doing the domestic thing. He's done homework, has bread proving in the kitchen and is about to start hoovering Smile

Secondsop · 04/11/2012 11:50

kate your DH is baking the bread? How lovely. My husband has been great through this pregnancy in keeping the house going but most kinds of cooking are beyond him.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/11/2012 12:05

We're unpacking, getting ready for ds's birthday (today but he's not back from his dads until 6pm so it's postponed until tomo) I'm bored of cleaning and sorting though. Get so out of breathe. Wish baby would engage so I could breathe but ds didn't until I was in labour so I doubt this one will.

I hope everybody enjoys their fireworks I'm not bothering as the kids are knackered from holiday so need an early bed, esp as we have to take DH to work tomo before school so I have the car to get to my 34 wk midwife appointment.

kate2boysandabump · 04/11/2012 12:06

He is making bread! He's a pharmacist, so he sees most cooking and baking as a different kind of chemistry experiment Grin

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 12:32

Kate, there have been some serious concerns about pouch types like babaslings for newborns, i really recommend you go to a sling meet to talk to qualified and experienced sling users who aren't trying to sell you something - ever wondered why there are so many being sold so cheap second hand?! There are some lovely mei tai's around which are like the big framed carriers but snuggly for tinies, would your dh go for that? (mine's sold on them already!) I've got myself a stretchy wrap, just tie on in the morning and pop baby in and out as needed.

I just started putting nappies away now I've sorted storage (shoe thing that hangs in the wardrobe) I have 36 small and 34 large nappies - that's just the prefolds, not the shaped ones! I'll be washing every 3 days to start and every 5-6 from then on :o:o:o

There were some concerns over PidjChick's heartbeat, dating, and if he hadn't grown out of it (he has) i would've had to go to Proper Hospital no questions. I really wanted Ashurst, so compromised on Burley because of the faster transfer if there was a problem. They said they'll transfer me to Ashurst for post-natal care, which is what i wanted most, so win win. Might even see you there!

FriendofDorothy · 04/11/2012 12:48

The pouch slings are definitely not recommended for newborns. Try something like a Close Sling which gives better support.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 04/11/2012 14:44

I have a close sling and it is lovey, went to a sling library initially wanting a pouch sling but after trying all of them the close was the easiest and felt most comfortable. I was told the pouch slings are fine to use but bag slings which are a lower version of pouch slings are dangerous as the fabric can smother the baby.

EggsMichelle · 04/11/2012 15:52

I an struggling to lug his weight around now, I am not looking forward to carrying him more when he is born, so for that reason I am burying my head in the sand about slings/carriers for now. I may think more clearly when my back has had a little relief.

Just put the cotbed together on my own, I love flat pack! And booked tickets to what might be my last gig in a long time, luckily it's an acoustic set so I will be excused for sitting and not moshing!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2012 16:20

If dp says 'what is wrong with you' in an arsey tone one more time he's not getting any of the yummy toast I'm making Angry (with red cabbage and pigs in blankets and yorkshires) all I did was ask him to get the chicken out the oven and he started huffing and puffing like I'd asked him to catch, kill, pluck and gut the bloody thing!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 04/11/2012 16:27

I think you know what to do spotty - fork in the eye! I was intrigued about the toast with the other stuff until I read chicken and realised it was roast Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2012 16:41

Mmm red cabbage on toast Grin

brooke89 · 04/11/2012 17:01

Haha I thought how strange about the toast until I read the chicken too!

Feeling very sorry for myself today haven't moved off the sofa Sad think I've caught a bug from DP, my belly feels like I've bruised the inside. Damn winter weather!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/11/2012 17:22

Anyone else with pins and needles at the top of the bump? Have googled and apparantly it's baby trapping a nerve, bloody annoying though!

Well house is sorted, we have removed the sofa chair from the living room and replaced it with an okra chair so we have more space. I have padded ds's bed with his old quilt (that was too thin) under his mattress topper, to keep him toasty (his room downstairs gets very cold). We have unpacked the suitcases too. I feel like I've run a marathon, I can't wait to feel normal again!

MaMaPo · 04/11/2012 17:22

Kate, our husbands sound similar. Mine has just decided to learn to bake, and is on his second sourdough loaf. First thing he does when he gets in of an evening is to go and check on his starter - he's so protective of it! He's not a pharmacist but is fascinated by the chemistry of cooking and baking (as am I). I bought him a big book on food chemistry for Christmas last year and now he pops up with random information on egg proteins and the like! Given I am developing a new interest in sewing it makes for quite a nesty home, and it's good for us both to have a hobby.

Actually, I can hear him watching Great British Bake-Off Masterclass right now!

I bought loads of fabric for a Hugabub-style sling yesterday, so all I need to do is cut it to size, make and add the pocket and I'm all done!

Secondsop · 04/11/2012 17:57

eggsmichelle if you love flatpack would you like to come to my house and put together the baby's wardrobe please? :)

Have been having a time finding something to wear in hospital. My mum was going to make me stuff but it wasn't working - she'd chosen the weirdest floral fabric, to begin with, and it made me look like an old lady. So I've ordered a couple of nice t-shirt nightshirts from bonprix in big sizes that should fit over the bump, and will open up the front to put poppers on it for skin-to-skin contact.

Cookiesandcream06 · 04/11/2012 19:34

Ahh was trying to post for ages on my phone today but my app just wasn't having any of it! Had a little baby shower gathering today was lovely got some lovely things. Full of cake and feel sick! Earlier my post was meant to say can I please invite myself to Ringwood please?!

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 19:39

Store21, Primark and supermarkets, seconds :)

Cookies, you have pm

MyDaydream · 04/11/2012 19:41

Jealous of all of you with cooking other halves, our kitchen is freezing and I really don't want to go make dinner.
Spoke to my mum today and she's ordered our cot, although we have no idea when it's being delivered, hopefully early next week so I can get it up and it'll motivate me to finish off everything else in the babies room. Looking forward to doing some flatpack on my own, got the cot coming and DPs new computer desk needs to go up, I find it really satisfying.

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 20:09

I got a bargainous moses basket and stand for a fiver this afternoon at a nearly new sale, now need to wash the covers and buy a new mattress. Dp doesn't bake but made curry from scratch yesterday and sweet chilli salmon with mash today. Almost makes up for inflicting Fawlty Towers on me earlier Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2012 20:23

Dp never cooks. At most he can stick a pizza in. He does, however, wash up and clean the bathroom Grin

MyDaydream · 04/11/2012 20:35

Pidj that salmon sounds gorgeous.

ellliebelle · 04/11/2012 21:11

Right not had chance to catch up but needed a rant/moan/some advice :(

Might seem petty but i have just found out my mum has bought me a really hideous changing bag that she plans to give me at my baby shower on saturday.

I dont know how to respond to her when she gives me it :( i dont want to be ungreatful but it really is horrible and just so not me :( i dont know what she was thinking when she bought it its like she was buying for a stranger not her daughter....argggggg

AlisonDB · 04/11/2012 21:19

Ellie, if you cant be tactfully honest with your mum, can't you pretend someone else has bought you a new change bag, and politely ask if hers can be returned in favor of something else?
Many shops provide gift receipts...

ellliebelle · 04/11/2012 21:23

alison i had thought of her returning it but also know she has bought me bits for my hospital bag so quite worried she will have taken all packaging off and stuffed it fullbof stuff making it unreturnable :( she has ordered new on ebay today so it wont arrive till at least tues but not sure i feel i can let her know that i know and also thatbi dont like it.

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 21:24

It was, Daydream!

Such a shame it's too small to fit everything in, ellie, because it's such a generous present. Oh no, what's that, it's the last one in that design? Well, i can either keep it as a spare or how about i take it back to save you the trip and see if there's something similar?
