Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi everyone,

Just quickly catching up. Have been busy finishing decorating the living room and getting the last couple of baby bits today. Only got my Primark shop for nightwear/big knickers left and then I'm completely sorted. Good job seeing as I'm due a month today Shock.

EggsMichelle · 04/11/2012 22:33

Ellie, you have enough time to go buy one or order one before then/pretend you have ordered one, then you can say "oh well, if it's non returnable at least I have a spare" and stick in in the back of a cupboard. My Nan always insisted on buying me things my cousin would like (Chav who wears her skin as clothes, lovely girl though!), my Mum would take one look and return the offending item. She only got the idea when my sister and I started turning up in Dr Martens, hoodies and tattooed (you can imagine her face when I told her we were having a humanist naming ceremony!)

AlisonDB · 04/11/2012 22:42

Ellie, how much do you/ will you see your mum once the baby is born?
I had similar with my mum, when I was preg with DS1,

I had been talking about a high chair and saying I wanted one, the next thing is I go to visit my mum (I live in Holland she lives in the UK)
And she proudly presents a high chair to me saying I bought you this, your dad can bring it next time he drives over!!

It was huge and in garish colours and unable to fold,
So after graciously accepting and saying how much I loved it, i flew back to Holland and a few weeks later i lied (through my teeth) and told her a group of friends had bought me one, and much as I loved her high chair "wouldn't it be a brilliant idea to keep 1 in your house mum? That way when we come to stay its one less thing for md to think about?"

Could you say something similar? Ooh mum it's really lovely but, I already have one, can we keep it your house that way when you look after the baby you will always have a fully stocked change bag with you?

datingthedevil · 04/11/2012 23:51

Hi Ellie, does your mum know that you know about the bag? If she doesn't know, can't you go out tomorrow and buy one you love? Then when your mum gives you her lovely gift you say how lovely it is but you have already brought one? Or call her tomorrow and tell her how you found the perfect bag whilst out and you can't wait to show her. Then hopefully she'll take back hers and get you something else?

datingthedevil · 04/11/2012 23:53

Doh, ignore my message Ellie!!

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 07:24

Ellie I feel your pain, for dd my mum bought us a really cheap buggy (it's just too flimsy and low down she wanted us to use it from six months Hmm), a stage 1 car seat (one of those Nania ones I just can't bare to use because it's no stronger than cardboard) and now two second hand booster seats which she can't use for two years and when she goes up to the next seat I'll be getting one with a back and not second hand! I would either go with 'mum, I'm sorry but I really don't like it' or get another one and say someone bought it/gave it to you or you've already got yourself one and if she can't return it then it can be her own one for when she baby sits. I still use mine for dd who is two so she would get plenty of use out of it Smile

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/11/2012 08:25

Oh ellie you have my sympathy I have a feeling I will have the same sorts of problems with mil.

Well I'm thoroughly confused. At triage in Friday they made an appointment for me to go back tomorrow for observations if tadpoles movements hadn't returned to normal. If they were back to normal I should just cancel it. So I go to phone this morning to cancel and I haven't got a number for them, so have to call labour ward. For them to tell me that triage don't do appointments do I couldn't possibly have one Hmm. Then I try to phone the number the midwife gave me to arrange my GTT and it doesn't exist Confused. The saying 'couldn't arrange a piss up in a brewery' comes to mind tbh. Have asked DH to look into home births today (he's against it because it's 'more dangerous' if things go wrong) and I'll discuss it with the midwife later. Just feel that the hospital are pretty useless tbh.

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 09:46

Stacey that's rubbish hope your mw can sort it out.

I'm having a breakdown trying to get the cover back on my V pillow it's impossible!!

ellliebelle · 05/11/2012 09:59

Thanks for all your lovely replies :) i generally feel better about it all this morning had a compleat melt down last night and feel rediculous now :) alison i see my mum at least once a week so wouldnt even be able to pretend im using it :)

Dh knew she was looking at getting me a bag but she showed him a diffrrent one that would have been fine. He is going to email her today ask if she bought the one she suggested and send links to ones i like incase she didnt buy one tgen when she says she has one he is going to tryvgetvher to show him and then suggest he isnt convinced its my kind of thing etc hopefully she will return anf get one of the ones he suggests and if not she is at least forwarned that i might not like it

ellliebelle · 05/11/2012 10:01

stacey how horrible that you have lost ypur confidence in the hospital this late on in pregnancy :( i hope you manage to sort things out.

Sorry im rubbish and cant remember whois suffering with gd but those that mentioned the risks of the placenta failing early just wondered where this info had come from?

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 10:14

Ellie I don't know the ins and outs but the placenta tends to mature more quickly in women with diabetes. Mine was failing at 36 weeks with dd and I had good control (also had a scan the day before which was fine) only symptoms was hypos. I think it's something to do with the excess glucose. Also I assume that it's worse for type 1 and people who have gd that have had to go into insulin. Maybe talk to your midwife so you can make an informed decision? I'm sure it's common for women with gd to refuse induction Smile also as its not your first (?) maybe sweeps would work rather than full on induction?

StrawberrytallCAKE · 05/11/2012 10:17

Stacey are you with the same hospital you were with for your last births? How were they? I only ask because at my hospital they are the same with appointments and getting through to various wards is impossible but the labour ward was brilliant which is the only reason I've stuck with it!

Just in the waiting room for our last scan. Grumpy and massive.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 05/11/2012 10:18

Out of interest is anyone else going to refuse a sweep?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/11/2012 10:53

strawberry they were ok but not great iykwim, but we'll see. As for sweeps I'm gunna do them myself tbh from about 38 weeks. I don't fancy a hcp doing it!

EggsMichelle · 05/11/2012 11:14

If someone offered me an induction today I would probably say yes! I'm getting very uncomfortable with the pressure on my cervix and the sheer weight of my bump straining on my skin and muscles, I can't walk around the house without it hurting

ellliebelle · 05/11/2012 11:18

spotty thanks for the info think i will askbthe consultant on thurs for stats on placenta failing in women without diabeyes and those with and also discuss options for monitoring rather than induction.

Thisbis my last baby and i was rather looking forward to my nice natural homebirth and keep getting quite stressed/upset about the prospect of having to change my plans. Obviously if changing them is the best option then change i will but dont want to just agree to whats suggested cause the consultant says to.

strawb i was goingvto refuse a sweep but inlight of what ive said above may now accept one. Induction really is the last thing i want . Im pretty sure id prefer a c section.

All above being said im not even convinced baby is right way up at the minute so who knows what will happen

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 11:24

ellie I think there is at least one story from a diabetic on homebirth.org

StrawberrytallCAKE · 05/11/2012 11:31

I wasn't sure which way up the baby was but she is head down woo hoo! She is also back to back...ouch...I'm hoping she'll just roll around a bit. Estimated weight right now is 7lbs 2oz!!!! That's bigger than some newborns!!

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 11:33

Shock Strawb how many weeks are you?! dd was estimated 7lb born 24 hours later weighing 8lb

StrawberrytallCAKE · 05/11/2012 11:46

ARGH that's quite scary spotty!!!!! I'm 36 weeks today. The consultant told me that full term is considered 38 weeks not 37 too!? Might just start bouncing on the ball more next Monday anyway.

Just off for another hair disaster appointment to correct the orange.

CODwidow · 05/11/2012 13:06

Two of my ds's were born at 37 weeks and considered full term? Not sure who else said it but I will also be attempting my own sweeps from 38weeks.
Well finally got round to unpacking and organising my hospital bags I've gone for one for baby and then one for me as I think it'll make it easier for dh tbh. Only ever used one big one before but does get a little confusing.

Almost 35 weeks now and starting to feel it, I've not felt too bad til now but backache is setting in and bump seems to have had a growth spurt recently and expanded massively! But boys are back at school today so a chance to rest Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 05/11/2012 13:09

I know they only correct their age if they are born before 37 weeks?

I've just ordered a load of containers for batch cooking (£7.20 for 50 on eBay) so once I get those I'm going to have one day a week where I can do stuff like that

JADEmummyof2 · 05/11/2012 13:15

hello
Hope you don't mind me joining this thread i'm due on the 8th December.
Smile

StrawberrytallCAKE · 05/11/2012 13:17

Hmm my pregnancy email says I'm considered term at the end of this week too....strange. I'm thinking of giving myself a little tan and painting my nails tonight. Maybe if I take as much care of myself as the girl on obem who had the sneeze water birth it might happen to me too!

I'm a bit squeamish to give myself a sweep but I wonder if dh's doo dah would work Blush

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/11/2012 13:27

Welcome jade

strawberry DHs doodah would be perfect, sex is a good way to bring on labour.
