Mama, my prayers are with you.

Crazytictac · 15/11/2012 21:05

Hi ladies

Great news on all your scans. Smile I'm booked in now for 27th too, must be a popular day!

havealittlefaith that's a lovely idea.

mama some doctors really do have a way with words Hmm. Your little boy sounds a character already. Keeping everything crossed for you.

teapig I found my NCT classes invaluable. Not so much for the information side of things (although that is obviously the main aim!) but I was very lucky and met a great bunch of people, most of who I count as good friends. We still meet up regularly now with our children and without them too. The course content was really useful although they can be quite anti medicalisation IMO. And as for movement, I posted something similar a few days ago. I'm 18 plus 6 and I think yesterday I felt something. Not flutters, more like vibrations and pretty sure wasn't gas. Happened a few more times today. Somebody (thank you) suggested drinking an ice cold drink.

magictorch · 15/11/2012 21:06

So fab to hear such good scan news, especially mama and jacq

I had my 20 week scan today and it was just perfect. Couldn't be happier. We're keeping ours a surprise, although it was tempting when they asked if we wanted to know. The sonographer was brilliant this time too.

teapig I asked about movement today too as this is my first and I can't feel anything either. Apparently the placenta is at the front and cushioning the blows- maybe same for you? Baby was a wriggler and made a little fist and punched the placenta just as sonographer was telling us.

Re. NCT vs NHS, I've booked NCT as I've heard much better things about them.

Can't believe we're halfway!!

Went shopping with Mum at the weekend (we live 3 hours drive apart) and we had a fab day buying gorgeous little outfits. She's even ordered the cot we were looking at to celebrate the scan today. I love my mum!

Hope to hear more good scan news from you all soon.

Thanks for the advice kellestar, crazy and magic. I think I'll try to book NCT and will check out the NHS option as well in case NCT gets cancelled or over booked.

Thanks for the advice on movement, I won't worry just yet. I might try the ice cold water trick or perhaps a tub of Ben and Jerry's.

I love the cake/gender idea. What an amazing way to find out to and a great excuse to eat cake!

toobreathless · 15/11/2012 22:12

Yay for more good scans magictorch so with that lovely news we are at:

2 boys
5 girls
5 surprises.

WRT antenatal classes I did ones with an Independant midwife, cost about 1/3 of the cost of NCT ones & the four other ladies (& partners) I met are now some of my best friends. I am really looking forward to our antenatal group Christmas party coming up :) I definately recommend looking at similar options.

Kellestar I actually already have a DD (blush!) who was born in April 2011. Stupidly i gave quite a few of her baby (mainly supermarket) clothes away thinking what was the chance of having another girl at the same time of year. Ha ha ha ha ha! I am being very fussy as we don't need much but just fancy buying the odd nice new thing for DD2 (amazing to write that!) agree with you re: pink. DD also has flame red hair & looks particularly silly in pink.

Teapig I was eating lots of ice cream and ice cold drinks to try and feel some movement but didn't have any luck. However, on Wednesday, I felt lots of wriggling and pops throughout the day and it hasn't stopped since!
Scan not for another week but love hearing how everyone else is getting on. Still undecided as to whether we will find out but the envelope to open on Christmas day idea (sorry I can't remember who said it) is swaying it slightly!

Hi all, sorry for TMI but have had lots of very thick jelly mucus this morning when wiping (sorry...) - all clear, not bloody at all, like the egg white CM when ovulating. I know this is quite normal in early pregnancy but now?? Anyone else? Am a bit worried but don't know why...

Morning all, weird dreams last night about having two sons (they were all grown up), do you think it's a sign?

caliope I am so excited you are going to do the cake revealing.

birdbrain I think when you don't know what to expect from labour it's VERY unnerving (understatement of the year). I know one thing that really helped me when I was in labour but at home, in pain, progressing slowly, waiting to go in to be induced (waters broken) I spoke to my sister who has 3 kids and she was very reassuring and just told me I could do it. I think that's the main thing, self belief that your body can do it and having faith in your birth partner and the mw. I have a mild bleeding condition which means an epidural isn't advised so was very worried about being induced without one and also of the chances of having to have a caesarean (general or spinal for that). My sister really helped with that too saying I would be OK and could do it (she was induced for her last one without an epi). I found my body kind of took over and my mind was totally focussed on the job in hand, totally bizarre thinking back (gas and air helped with transitional phase). I was lucky to have two excellent MWs (yes it took a while) who were very supportive and encouraging (I was adamant I wasn't giving birth lying down, and I don't mean that metaphorically). I think anyone that you trust and has personal or professional experience could be a great help when you're in labour. sorry if tmi but hope some of it helps.

mama it must feel like a bad dream to be in a similar situation again but at least you know you got through it last time and will again. The MWs are usually very good at helping you express even if you're out of it if they know that's what you want. One of my friends had an emergency C section under general and she reckons she woke up to find her baby had been given expressed milk (well I guess it was colostrum) that she doesn't even remember being taken!!!!!

Mama1980 · 16/11/2012 09:53

Thanks trying they did this for me last time attached the pump to me when I could not do so myself. I'm just getting nervous I guess.
It could be a sign Smile

Teapig · 16/11/2012 14:52

Thanks Emmie, I can't wait to feel movement. I might give ice cream a go just in case Wink

Caladria · 16/11/2012 15:04

Scan today. Very wriggly and healthy looking boy.

BonaDea · 16/11/2012 15:24

Teapig - at my 20 weeks scan I found out I have an anterior placenta, in other words the placenta is at the front of my uterus(instead of the back) so is an extra layer of padding between me and baby. Anyway, my point is that I'm 20+2 and STILL haven't felt anything and according to consultant / mw / books this might mean i have still to wait another couple of weeks.

You could perhaps be in the same position, and you'll find out at your scan. Hope not for you, but if it is that at least there's a reason for it and you don't need to worry.

Our baby is extremely wriggly, so perhaps it is a blessing in disguise!

Giddypants · 16/11/2012 17:18

Just been reading though my notes, at 12 weeks I had a posterior placenta, at the20 week scan it had moved to the left. What does that mean?
Is it something for me to worry about, I didn't realise they could move, will it move again?

growyourown77 · 16/11/2012 19:20

Congrats on fantastic scan news!

mama hope your little one hangs in there - a tough little bean!

I had catheter out today to FX bladder keeps working and I don't end up in retention again.

Hi everyone - it's been ages since I posted. How are you all?

I have been feeling movements too - a friend described it as like swallowing a goldfish from the fair, bag and all - a description which I love!

Also trying to decided between NCT classes and NHS classes (at Homerton). About to move house too. So much to do!

Got my 20 week scan on Tuesday - very excited.

JessieEssex · 16/11/2012 19:34

giddy - the placenta can move as your uterus grows and stretches, don't worry at all. In my first pregnancy, the placenta was partially over the cervix at 20 weeks and then moved completely out of the way.

The midwife described it like drawing a blob on a partically inflated balloon and then watching it move as the balloon inflates. Hope that makes sense!

Teapig · 16/11/2012 20:04

Thanks bona, good to know what it could be. Hope you feel kicks soon, but as your baby is extra wriggly perhaps it's good that you have a nice placenta cushion.

Grow, hoorah for the lack of catheter.

Excitedly picked up my next bounty pack today and then realised once I'd opened it that instead of my 'mum-to-be' pack they've given me the 'family pack' you get right at the end. I did think the content was a bit strange for this stage but now I've traded in my voucher for the wrong booklet, damn it.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 16/11/2012 20:50

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Takes ages to catch up with all the chat.

So my mother has texted me asking whether I liked Fern Cotton's maternity dress from earlier in the evening on Children In Need (not that she knows who Fern Cotton is!). Anyone see it and was it nice?!

Mama1980 · 17/11/2012 08:18

Morning all
Yay grow for the lack of catheter. Got my fingers crossed for you.
So cold here and the nurses woke me really early to check my bp before they handed over shifts. Going to be having a lot of visitors today so need to wake myself up. My mum has has bought me one of those shower cap wash things so going to have a go at cleaning my hair- my daughter told me last night I look like the grim reaper who has dressed up as death for Halloween! Children can always be relied upon eh Grin
I hope everyone has a great day.

Giddypants · 17/11/2012 08:36

Thanks jessie I'm always worried when it comes to placentas.

Missmuffet28 · 17/11/2012 09:40

Sounds like a tiring day ahead for you mama but hope its an enjoyable one! Yes can always rely on kids to say how it is! Just before I told ds he was getting a sibling he told me I was getting a bit of a round belly with hand actions and all I was mortified that it was that obvious To a 10year old at 12 weeks! Glad your little man is still holding up, will he stay put as long as poss or have they given a date that they want to take him out by? Just out of interest sorry if I'm being my usual beaky self!!

Think I have a boring day ahead I have a ton of house work to do :( but on the upside I no longer feel like I have been kicked in the 'foof' as kellestar put it! (This is my new favourite word for this area now btw!) next week will be a test my mum has requested my help at her work they have moved buildings and need to set up in the new one she needs me wed thurs fri (scan day!) sat sun and maybe the Monday after as well as my usual job on the tues so I'm not holdin up much hope of being pain free next week!

Oh and a bit of random info.... Some git nicked my wheelie bin yesterday :( !!! Who nicks wheelie bins?! Especially when it had my house number scrawled on all 4 sides and the lid in big white numbers lol!!!

Have a nice day all!

Hi all, I haven't been around for a little while, I'm going to have to quickly post and run today as well. Will promise to have a proper catch up as soon as I can.

Had 20 week scan and all is well, there is a very active little baby in there, which is a surprise as I'm hardly feeling anything. Turns out I also have an anterior placenta!

Ooh, and we're 99.9% sure that we're having a little boy, as there were some very obvious bits there!
I'm so happy, so relieved and so excited!

Ill catch up with you all individually soon x

Have a lovely day Mama. Hope your hair feels fresher and you look less...wild?!

Fantastic news If, you must be chuffed to bits! :)

I'm pootling along. Now got enough work trousers to last me (I hope), two eBay purchases and one pair just two sizes too big (compared to my normal) that I can grow into!
