JacquiH yay! Awesome news! We heard our bubs heartbeat twice today, isn't it just the best sound!
Our sonographer was so much better than the person who we had at 12 weeks, they explained everything we were looking at, and kept going back to check the heart rate (because of DS, this is a particular concern). At the end they said that there was nothing she had seen to make her worry. So phew!
And then over lunch we opened the envelope and discovered that we are having a girl!! I sat there stunned for about half an hour, I totally had assumed that I would be having a boy - this would be the first girl in DHs family for a number of generations! I'm really excited, but a bit OMG would do I do with a girl?
Good luck everyone for your scans!

Missmuffet28 · 15/11/2012 12:31

Firstly big fat YAY for jaqueline so pleased it went ok for you!
Hope your next scan brings you positive news also mama
An another yay for all the other great scans its all happening now!!!

Thanks for all the advice re my pelvic problems I'm not sure i will use google it never ends well an I know I'll convince myself I have something I may not have haha!! But if it doesn't go away or keeps coming back I will seek advice from my midwife unit they have always said RING no matter what your worries are we are more than happy for you to do that, I had another crappy night trying to get comfy especially when I move my legs it really hurts in the pelvic region, it doesn't seem too bad today sat here but I literally haven't moved much, I'm getting definate movements now which is nice I still haven't let slip to dp I'm getting them I want to wait until he can feel them too kinda share the moment thing, but for the first time yesterday he was rubbing my bump which kinda made me feel all gooey hehe!!
Week tomorrow for my scan eek!! I'm really nervous again but cannot wait!! We are doing the envelope thing too but I'm not sure either of us will be brave enough to open it!!

If I don't post before, have a great weekend all (ill still be reading mind you!)

18+4 :)

usernamegoeshere · 15/11/2012 12:38

great news Jacqueline really pleased for you, hopefully you can have a nice relaxing weekend now!

& yey for all the good scan news, I love reading them all. That cake sounds awesome too I kind of want that now...

itsaruddygame · 15/11/2012 14:15

Great news Jacqeline! Glad you can relax a bit now. Mama- it must be tough going for you and the kids. I remember my Mum being ill as a child and having to go to stay with Grandparents. It was very strange being away from her. I hope you start to feel a bit better soon and perhaps can manage to eat a bit more. It must be horrible feeling so rotten.

I have my scan tomorrow - I am a bit nervous as my brother had bad news at 20 weeks a few years ago but am trying not to think about it too much as it all feels like it is going well. I can feel the baby move each day now and am really starting to enjoy being pregnant. Hoping to find out the flavour too Smile

20weeks 1!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 15/11/2012 14:32

Glad to hear the scans are going well everyone! (I just woke up so bare with me!).

Hang in there mama, you two are amazing!

My 20 week scan is 11th December. I suggested to DH about the envelope idea. Initially he poo-pooed it but then he suggested we wait and open it at Christmas and we both love that idea so that's what we're going to do! :)

Mama1980 · 15/11/2012 14:46

mumofwombat how exciting, a girl! Have you though of names? Congratulations so happy for you :)
Thanks everyone. Scan went well, but some more bruising has appeared on the placenta, its really hanging on by a thread- the not terribly reassuring drs words not mine, but babe is looking very good. And the dr did go through the 'action' plan again of steroids as soon as I hit 24 weeks then wait and see but he told me to remember they can have the baby out in under 4 minutes if the placenta ruptures, though hopefully delivery can be far more controlled than that. He is very active thoigh and took exception to the probe thing they run over your stomach tried to kick it out of the way. Going to rest now until my children come in later.

aufaniae · 15/11/2012 15:33

Jacqeline that's great news, so pleased for you :)

LikeCandy · 15/11/2012 15:44

Jacqueline so pleased for you!

wombat it must be a pink day - we're (probably, 85% is the most certainty the sonographer would give!!) having a girl too Grin

20+1

kellestar · 15/11/2012 17:08

jacqueline great relief! fab news, roll on your 20 week scan.

wombat that is a lovely way to find out.

mama glad to hear little man was wiggling about good and proper. Sad to hear your little boys missing you, tugs on the old heartstrings, bless him. Rest up and you'll be a family again soon. With breastfeeding, you may found scbu/nicu will give you plenty of support with BF, they may supplement, but they should still encourage you to BF, maybe by expressing to start with. The hospital grade pumps are amazing things. even with the operation for you after delivery, you should still be able to do it, even if you end up dumping what you've expressed, it will still help you establish things. Don't be scared to push for it.

I must be the only one that's definitely feeling up for sex, it was like it last time as well. Because of all the extra blood rushing about down there, things are much more pleasurable and DH is most happy, except he's knackered so feel as if I am the one pressuring him :) though must admit my episiotomy scar twinges a bit after.

Trishstar · 15/11/2012 17:08

Oooh some more girls added to the mix!!! Lovely news for all of you xx

Did a spot if Christmas shopping today and treated myself to that dream genii pillow. Hope I get a decent sleep now xxx

kellestar · 15/11/2012 17:39

trishstar it really is comfy, especially on achey hips. Which will be helpful for the mama on the other page that has a 'kicked in the foof' feeling. Also the MW's might not be able to do anything, but the GP can refer you for physio [which may help somewhat]

birdbrain17 · 15/11/2012 17:48

Wow just had to check in to say it's so nice to hear all this positive news!!! Really reassuring Grin
can't believe my scan is less then a week away. I've told loads more people at work now as I can't hide my bump any more. It's really fun to be able to talk about it and get advice.
Anyone on here considering a labour coach? Someone mentioned it to me, just wondering how common that is for people to have. Anyone who is past dc1 got advice for us newbies?!

Trishstar · 15/11/2012 17:54

Thanks kellestar!! I'm going to a midnight showing of the last twilight tonight so will probably fall into bed at 2.45am!!! Hope the pillow does its magic tonight!

Jo1984uk · 15/11/2012 18:05

Just had my 20 week scan, all went well.. Looks like a girl!! Am so excited. Have been looking at cute girly outfits this afternoon :-) I need to go back tomorrow as the baby was being awkward again, just like during the first scan! She was facing my back the whole time, went for a walk to try to get her to turn but she wouldn't!! It just means I get another peak at baby tomorrow. Lady who did the scan was lovely, really friendly and talked us through everything. She even invited my mum in during the second part of the scan, even though they normally only allow one person in with you. She said its important for granny to bond with baby too :-) looking forward to reading more scan stories from everyone.

Jo1984uk · 15/11/2012 18:10

Just read previous posts, definitely a pink day!!

toobreathless · 15/11/2012 18:18

2 boys
5 (!) girls
4 surprises.

Just tried to buy something pink for my pink bump & failed. I am very fussy though!

OP posts:
BonaDea · 15/11/2012 18:49

Do you think that means that the surprises are probably likely to be boys to even up the numbers....?

20+1 (surprise)

kellestar · 15/11/2012 18:52

toobreathless I already have a DD and struggle to buy anything pink for her. She suits dark colours [like her mummy] and looks lovely in plum.

I am a big fan of H&M for lovely baby stuff, even for those surprises, lovely side opening vests in yummy colours.

aufaniae · 15/11/2012 20:01

If that's a serious question, no it makes no difference, 50% chance for everyone. Even if every one of the next 40 scans are girls, the next one scanned still has a 50% chance.

If it's lighthearted sorry, please ignore me! Blush

caliope · 15/11/2012 20:05

I've noticed there's been a bit of talk about a baby gender cake. That's what we're going to do! Our scan is on the 27th. We're going to get the sonographer to write down the sex of the baby on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope that I'll then give to a cake maker I've got lined up to bake a cake - pink inside for a girl and blue inside for a boy!

It's very American, I know, Blush but it's our first so we don't mind what we have and it's just a bit of fun and excuse to have a party with family and friends!

aufaniae · 15/11/2012 20:06

caliope what a great idea, sounds like fun :)

Trishstar · 15/11/2012 20:12

Caliope there's a few of us with scan on the 27th! Yay! Xxx

Teapig · 15/11/2012 20:17

Great new Jacqueline, I'm so pleased everything is ok.
Congrats to everyone with amazing scan news, so exciting.

I'm a bit worried that haven't felt movement yet. I'm 18+1 and haven't felt a sausage. Anyone else yet to find movement or didn't movement until later on in previous pregnancies?

I haven't booked antenatal classes yet, was going to leave it until after my 20 week scan, is that too late? Any advice on whether to go NHS or NCT? I have no idea what the differnece is other than free and paid for I guess.

Mama1980 · 15/11/2012 20:28

kellestar thanks Smile I used a hospital pump to establish supply last time i had to express, or have one of the nurses pump for me every two hours I'm just hoping it works again. Ds last time managed to suck pretty well after about 8 weeks and after ripping his tube out more times than I can remember so I'm hoping this babe is similar it was such a huge relief the day they took the tube out. Thanks for the support its much appreciated truly and I have primed my sister and mum to insist on my behalf if I'm not able or having a weak moment.
I still can't quite believe that I'm faced with a similar situation again.

kellestar · 15/11/2012 20:32

book the NHS one's just in case. I had the NCT ones cancelled as there wasn't enough to run the class. :(

Went to the NHS ones which were meant to be for those due in December, but it seemed anyone could just turn up if they know the dates. We were packed into the laundry room, about 40 of us, only sitting space was for women, men had to stand or sit on the floor. Many refused to leave even when they weren't due until March.

NHS classes were the last two weeks of November, so very close to due dates [my original one was 12th December].

The NHS ones had lots of people who hadn't even picked up a baby book and asked the most basic of questions, we had to assume everyone knew nothing, which meant that we never got to have any detail. So it wasn't as helpful.

I've been to one NCT session [training to be a BF peer supporter] and was impressed with the session I attended. I know they are expensive, but you only do it once. For me, it would have been more valuable to attend an NCT one. The aftercare is far superior, if you are worried about anything, they will talk to you one to one and offer support after too. Obviously you do meet the members that are due around the same time as you, it's good to do the meet ups once they arrive and many do keep in touch for years.

Now I'm on my second there really isn't much point in me going to them as I've been through a birth and am a little more calmer than a first timer [I was a bag of nerves].

I am not sure if the information in your areas will be different, but when PG with DD I received an NHS pregnancy book, full of information [basics] about pregnancy, delivery, problems, check ups etc. They don't offer it in my area any more, so glad I kept hold of my copy.
