Hello.

At least you didn't actually eat the suppositories mrswee!

Interesting car chat. I hate car shopping with a passion. We both drive old beemers - just coincidence really. I have a long commute so liked having a solid car. They don't cost us anything as we paid them upfront. I don't think I will go back to new car buying as I loathe and detest the whole thing.

Not getting very far with the house sorting. Sat down about 2 hours ago to test out the baby Bjorne we were given. Still not progressed any further than emptying my work handbag while bouncing on my ball.

This house must be sorted!!!!

Passmethecrisps · 20/10/2012 15:25

If every parent realised that material things don't replace attention and affection then the world would be happier.

I meet with every child in my caseload at least once a year. Very often one question I ask them is what they like doing or what makes them happy. It is a rare child who does not answer 'spending time with my family'. Not one has ever said 'being given stuff'

ValiumQueen · 20/10/2012 15:38

DH went up in the roof today to see if there was any baby stuff we had forgotten about. None up there, so what does he do? Brings down and unpacks six boxes of my best china and ornaments. They were up there for a reason. Why oh why would someone get them out just before a baby arrives, and with a crazy 2 yo already in residence? Plus I have enough to do and enough crap to hide without this.

Still, at least he has not bought a new car..... Or a dog..... Or left...... Or gone diving...... Or fishing......

Bloody men!

ValiumQueen · 20/10/2012 15:39

pass we pay our kids to say that to teachers Grin

YellowWellies · 20/10/2012 15:48

Hahah I kick mine out fishing to get some peace and quiet (my DH is always full of energy, which is normally a good thing - there is genuinely nothing left for him to do pre baby - he's done it all) - he also thinks I'm being selfless and kind by telling him to go Grin

I don't mind the garnering of free brownie points Wink I've got a couple of washes I'd like him to put on later yuk yuk

Passmethecrisps · 20/10/2012 17:04

Ah VQ so that explains it!

Did you see the other thread? catbag has baybeez!

ValiumQueen · 20/10/2012 17:13

Thank you pass for saying about cat. Lovely!

kissyfur · 20/10/2012 17:43

Thanks for the advice VQ and pass I'm feeling horribly breathless and it feels like my heart is pounding when I exert myself Blush will go get checked out tomorrow if still like this then.

Sorry to hear about your hamster apple Sad

Had my baby shower, was just a lunch with all my girl friends and family really. Didn't get spoilt as I'd said to not worry about any pressies til after the baby is born. Was nice to see everyone tho Smile

kirrinIsland · 20/10/2012 17:55

Sorry about your hamster apple :(

I think I'm going to go overdue as well. I had managed to convince myself this one would be early because DD was, but I think that's just wishful thinking.
Every little twinge and I'm thinking is this it!?

applepieinthesky · 20/10/2012 17:56
Passmethecrisps · 20/10/2012 18:07

Oh yes I meant to say apple sorry about your wee hamster. I kept hamsters a lot when I was younger. Two lots of Russian and one Syrian with attitude.

I have a question about what baby should wear at bedtime. We have had a thermometer in the baby's room (he or she will be in with us initially but just as an example) for a couple of nights and the temperature seems to be about 18 to 21oC. That is with the radiator in the room off. I am pretty worried about overheating. What do people reckon for putting baby in to sleep?

ValiumQueen · 20/10/2012 18:29

If you use genuine gro bags, then there is a guide that goes with it for layers and togs etc. that is a good temp to have baby's room at. When DD1 was born her room was in the 30s and she slept in a vest. General guidance is 1 layer more than you.

With DD2 we were camping from 6 weeks and temps went down to -2 at night. That was fun too.

They are pretty hardy little things. Check how they feel down their back and if hot take off a layer. Do not add blankets to gro bags, unless camping in freezing conditions.

My car is a Ford S-Max that I got new dead cheap (relatively) because it was one of the last ones built before the facelift model came out in 2010. Best investment ever! It has loads of extras such as heated seats but best of all you can fit three child seats across the middle row so we'll all fit in it had to have another child to make it worth buying the car. I inherited some money from my gran in 2009 so I used that and paid the rest over 27 months. It was an expensive buy but it's all paid for now and I'm planning to keep it until it dies! My oldest child at least will learn to drive in it (that's only eight years off.)

DH is making homemade sausages for dinner. Yum (hopefully)! Then he's going to build the cot. Grin

Mmmm roasted veggies, garlic potatoes and pork chops for tea courtesy of DH - bless him!!!!

Dixiebell · 20/10/2012 18:46

pass, when DS was first born he used to wear a vest, sleep suit and one cellular blanket at night. I'd say room was about the temp you say, if colder could add a sheet, if warm just sheet, no blanket, or no vest. I used to check his temp at back of neck but never felt he was too hot. Moved to grobag at 8 weeks ish, which was better as less likely to be kicked off in night.

My friend had her baby boy this morning - Max. Am a bit jealous even tho am perfectly happy to wait another 5 weeks, and actually quite fancy holding on into December, so DS2 can have a birthdate of ?/12/12. DS is 4/10/10 so like the similarity.

WaitingForMe · 20/10/2012 18:58

All day NCT class today. I'm shattered but found it really useful. We had a different teacher and this one felt a little less agenda driven. The last one seemed to be struggling to hold her tongue when I was telling the others I'd had my WC jab on demand and to insist if they wanted to have it.

Found swaddling really straight forward as did one of the dads. It was established that of the group we were the ones most fond of fajitas/burritos Grin

TheDetective · 20/10/2012 19:10

I'm a little disappointed, had a nice afternoon planned just me and DS. Possibly the last chance before baby comes, and after all, he has had me alone for 10 years and I figured sharing might prove hard for him!

Anyway, it turned in to a bit of a disaster, we had to abandon the car to get to the cinema on time, as the traffic was standstill. 10 minute walk later, had me near in tears! Then we got our prebooked tickets and popcorn, shuffled in to cinema, just as the film was about to start. Some asshole was sat in one of our seats, and the other side was already taken too, so just one seat for me and DS! I asked the guy who was in our seat if he was mistaken - no, he claimed he wasn't. In not so polite terms, when I was nothing but polite to him. I then had to shuffle in the dark at 38 weeks pregnant back down the row, and tripped up, spilling the entire bucket of popcorn Hmm. Ended up sat in the regular uncomfy and bum itchy seats, as opposed to the comfortable premium seats I booked.

Just felt like crying the whole way through the film! Normally I'd of created a fuss, but I didn't want to spoil the time for DS. I complained afterwards, and got a refund - the guy was in the wrong, my tickets were definitely right. But I've still had to sit very uncomfortably, and pretty much didn't enjoy the film!

And no fecking popcorn!

Angry

Sorry for the whinge again

mrswee · 20/10/2012 19:11

apple very sorry about your hamster. Horrible to have a pet pass away.

Talking of pets and stupid DH's my DH has only gone and lost one of our frigging cats. I couldn't be much more irked by his idiocy right now. We've been at the new house less than a week and we both know the cats shouldn't go out but he decided about an hour ago when it was just getting dark to take a walk around the garden with one of the cats... then, I have no idea why, he decided to put her down in the garden so he could bring DD back in the house... and now she's off! not to mention it's bed time and DD is now crying for her daddy and the cat and refusing to do anything till he comes back from f-ing around the garden in the dark looking for the bloody cat.
honestly, men!!
I've just spend 3 hours cleaning the old flat so someone can veiw it tomorrow and can hardly move so I am not bloody happy about this completely avoidable situation!!!!!!!
argh!!!!!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/10/2012 19:34

Had a really g

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/10/2012 19:35

Oops!

Had a really good baby shower today. Played games, ate lots of good and everyone brought presents which was really unexpected and lovely!

Feel shattered now though and just going to watch Merlin and go to bed!

Hope everyone has had a good day :)

applepieinthesky · 20/10/2012 19:39

DP is cooking dinner. Still waiting for it and I'm starving.

StuntNun · 20/10/2012 20:30

I can now categorically state that I DO NOT recommend Lakeland's sausage-making kit. It took ages to make them and it was really hard work then they kept splitting when trying to put the twists in to make individual sausages. The cooking time of 35 minutes at 160 degrees left them very pale looking so I ended up whacking them under the grill on full to stop them looking like they had been microwaved. They were quite nice to eat, I made pork and St Agur blue cheese flavour Grin but the skins were really tough and difficult to cut. It was nice to get the pork and cheese sausages as I haven't been able to buy them in years but I don't see myself or DH going through all that effort again.

I can, however, wholeheartedly recommend Madagascar 3. Unlike Detective's rubbish experience we survived unscathed and the film is very funny, better than 1 and 2 which is pretty rare for the third one in a series. Definitely worth borrowing a small child to go and see.

Ds assures me it was great Stunt!

I, however, fidgeted too much and missed bits...grr!

Dixiebell · 20/10/2012 20:53

Random non-baby related question: what's your favourite current perfume? Want to get some for my bday but don't know what to ask for and have no time or inclination to go shopping and try loads out.

applepieinthesky · 20/10/2012 21:05

J'adore by Christian Dior. It's quite expensive but I love it.
