Cars halve in value when you leave the forecourt don't they? Wasn't there a study done revealing it's cheaper to use a taxi for every journey than to buy a new car on finance?

Have never seen the sense in driving a new car. I know it's a boy thing - but think it a bit Freudian personally Wink. Particularly those huge 'warrior' or 'trojan' jobs. I always mentally think 'someone's over compensating' when a bloke gets out of one... Grin which I am not sure is the desired effect.

I love our new (to us) Ford Fusion that DH chose (I don't drive) because it's in the £30 road tax a year bracket and is baby friendly. It's a couple of years old and costs us £120 a month on hire purchase. I loved Reg our old banger but he was rusting to shit and whilst we have always previously bought cars outright the running costs are so much lower and we don't have to cringe at MOT time....

MM I think your DH is indeed trying to fit in as many 'free bloke' activities as poss before D day! Mine is fitting in as much fishing as possible. They're not very complex critturs are they Grin

Chunkychicken · 20/10/2012 12:32

Am I alone in not having baby's position, other than 'ceph' or whatver it is for head down written in my notes? I think DD was ROA until the end anyway, because her kicks/punches always seemed to be on my left side but she was born without issue. This one seems to kick/punch on my right more, so possibly LOA? I think they're a right fidget anyway so will probably change a fair bit in the next 4 weeks.

I have been given an iPad from work (teachers are all getting iPads, not just me!) so havng fun playing on it at the moment!!! I don't think anyone realised yesterday was my last day, as it seems odd to give someone who's off for about a year a piece of expensive kit, and it was my department that gave a card or even 'best wishes'... :(

Iheartpasties · 20/10/2012 12:34

chunkychicken I would be telling myself 'thanks for the iPad, its a great leaving present!'

Iheartpasties · 20/10/2012 12:36

I have no idea what position baby is in, head down is all I know. I'm fine with that. DD was back to back and not engaged the day before I gave birth so I'm not worried!

MissMummy1 · 20/10/2012 12:38

I will never buy a brand new car. I've priced up a wee ex-demo corsa that (if mat allowance and work income etc) allows I'll be able to afford on my own should the citroen need an unjustifiable amount of work done in March. Purely because the running costs will be so low! I've always prefered to buy things outright (I was brought up with the philosophy if you can't afford it, you can't have it) but the amount it would save monthly in tax, insurance and fuel would more than outweigh the small finance payments. And only should my citroen fail drastically, otherwise it will be patched up and kept for another year! I hate parting with things...

In my self riteous opinion, that's sensible. Blowing £400+ a month financing a gas-guzzling monster truck to boost his ego and be the king of the work car park, is grounds for divorce!

Chunkychicken · 20/10/2012 12:39

Apple I look massive (which everyone delights in telling me!) but I'm measuring small for dates (34wks was 32.5cm). DD was only 6lb 5oz when born, but still average, and I measured 1-2cm small throughout there too. However, this baby's measurements are much bigger than DD on the scans (she was on the mean, this one is on the 90th centile) so I don't think fundal height, apparent physical appearance of size and baby's size are necessarily related.

ShellyBobbs · 20/10/2012 12:40

No problem, here's the link again for any ladies who want to buy aromatherapy oils at very reasonable prices Aromatherapy linkey tried and tested by me, I can recommend this seller from experience.

Knackered and slightly breathless today. Am just going to veg out on the settee all day I think. Hubby has cleaned and tidied every single room, done all the washing and put it away and is about to finish ALL the last minute jobs! This will be some pay back me thinks when I'm feeling sexy Grin

Chunkychicken · 20/10/2012 12:40

I shan't complain too much Pasties Grin

MissMummy1 · 20/10/2012 12:42

chunky I only get ceph too. My stomach muscles are apparently too strong for any of the 3 mws I've seen to determine which way junior's lying. Possible presentation scan at 37 weeks as last me was convinced he/she is breech. Judging by the very low definite kicks I'm getting, I'd say so too Sad

YellowWellies · 20/10/2012 12:45

I agree chunky I don't think fundal height, bump size and baby size are correlated - I'm measuring 1cm over but with the regular growth scans (which is how I know the position, plus I always ask the MWs and am sort of figuring it out with the spinning baby's book) we are pretty certain that the wee one is smack on the 50th centile and is only going to be a 7-8lber if born at term.

I wonder if I have loads of interstitial fat in between my organs - hence junior is being pushed out front.... Blush

MM that sounds like a sensible plan.

Chunkychicken · 20/10/2012 12:54

Don't think my stomach muscles are too strong here MissMummy!! Good luck with the scan, better to know in advance, & doesn't necessarily mean a c-section.

ShellyBobbs · 20/10/2012 13:00

My notes are the same Chunky and I'm rubbish at knowing how the baby is lying, although from about 30 weeks it's been head down and back along my left hand side, but I can't tell any more than that myself.

I've only just started with the 'oh I didn't know you were pregnant', comments, everyone seems really surprised that I only have 3 weeks left and all say I 'hid it well'. Frig me, I feel about 58 weeks pregnant, it seems like a looooooooong time to me.

jaylee89 · 20/10/2012 13:07

afternoon ladies. hope everyone is well.

thought it was all kicking off last night was having contractions every 8-10 mins which were taking my breath away then went to bed and nothing!!!
i think she might be teasing me.

having some period and back ache today and feeling like i can breath again does this mean anything?

37 weeks tomorrow and the house is spick and span and hospital bags all packed so she is more than welcome to turn up whenever she likes now Grin

anyone else have a feeling they are gonna go horribly overdue?

YellowWellies · 20/10/2012 13:10

I bet I do Jaylee :(

Technically I have 30 sleeps to go... which is less than a month so I should be chuffed.

FatimaLovesBread · 20/10/2012 13:33

See, I do like cars like DH but I like to research a lot and make sure what we're paying for is actually worth it. I would despair if I was you MM and DH wanted to buy a Hilux but rarely drove. They are HUGE and inefficient and only really worth it for workman/builder types. DHs friend has one and it doesn't even fit in a normal parking space!
I'm quite tomboyish and can appreciate some good cars but also appreciate the complete wastes of money.
Our Focus is £30 tax, I love it. However, we got it on HP (which we later discovered was a personal loan) and will probably end up trading it in before we've finished paying and own it outright so next time were going for a lease deal.

We're going out shortly for my sisters birthday but I don't feel particularly cracking. I presume it's still the effects of last night curry. Hope it wears off soon

applepieinthesky · 20/10/2012 13:51

I'm preparing to go over jaylee. I've got 4 weeks to go but keep telling myself 6 so that I'm not too disappointed when my due date comes and goes. 37 weeks next Friday so anytime after that would be ok with me.

mrswee · 20/10/2012 13:59

I had a typical pregnancy embarrassing moment yesterday - I had to go to the doctors about hideus piles and also get some gaviscon. I was amazed that she decided to prescribe me branded stuff for both and even agreed to give me gaviscon tablets rather than liquid.. well that was the route of the problem..
By the time i got on the bus home I had terrible heart burn and in my desperate scrabble for the gaviscon tablets I pulled out the packet of Annasol suppositories on the very busy bus and started opening them in front of everyone before I noticed my mistake!! argh if it wasn't bad enough having just had the doctor having apoke around.. then that!!

detective my dh does that too, forgets all the essentials ... but does bring home mega bargains.. however the 24 jars of lloyd grossman thai cooking sauce that was ONLY 34p each.. was probably more than we needed!! He also brings all his crap from work home in carrier bags and just leaves them laying around that house.. I hate carrier bags!!

MissMummy1 · 20/10/2012 14:12

See fatima he claims we need it to tow the boat and the caravan (which I've been promised is also going). BUT neither have been towed anywhere for the past 2 years and if they ever did need to be moved, we have a lot of friends with big cars we could borrow! Next door has a hilux so we know it fits under the carport. Just. I wouldn't attempt it. The guy who owns it has just sold his boating business though so I don't know if dh is trying to shock me into thinking he's buying a brand new one when in actual fact it's his he wants to buy. Either way it's an unnecessary expense right now! It's taken a long time to convince hin to get rid of his discovery, and as we speak he's currently faffing around with his defender project (the compromise - he can keep it as long as it's not anywhere near the house until it's done and it isn't costing us money). Boys and their toys....

jaylee89 · 20/10/2012 14:12

im preparing to aswel apple ill be 37 weeks tomorrow but i feel like ive been pregnant forever and it will always be this way!

the joys of pregnancy ay? lol

Peaky1 · 20/10/2012 14:32

LOL mrswee you poor thing!! The glamour just gets better, doesn't it?!

The car chat has sparked my interest. I'm researching new options as I'm currently using a very good lease car deal at work (nhs community worker so drive about lots). My lease is up in December and I know that the quotes people are getting now for this scheme have more than doubled. It was an excellent value scheme - I pay £110 per month for a new vw golf with tax, insurance, tyres and servicing all in. Abso-bloody-mazing. Though insurance has £250 excess, as I discovered when 1 small 2 day old stone chip cost me my entire excess Angry. Now the quotes for monthly lease are around £250+ per month (mine still hasn't come through yet). I wonder if its better to stick with it as its still a good deal or consider owning my own car through other means. I've never owned my own car so all the options are pretty new to me.

YellowWellies · 20/10/2012 14:38

Oh mrswee!!!! That's the sort of thing I'd do....

applepieinthesky · 20/10/2012 14:45

It does feel like I've been pregnant forever. Perhaps partly because this baby has been a long time coming. DP and I spoke about having babies right from the beginning of our relationship 9.5 years ago and it was 2.5 years ago we stopped using contraception. It feels like we've been waiting forever. I can't wait to meet him and kiss and cuddle him all day everyday. I know people will advise against doing that but I do not care Smile

MissMummy1 · 20/10/2012 14:53

The corsa deal I saw was £110 a month over 4 years for a 6 month old ex demo car if you traded something in. No final payment either and you keep the car, so that makes it hire purchase right? It's a vauxhall so has lifetime warranty and most garages will throw in a freebie like free servicing for 3 years if you flirt outrageously ask nicely. I might be wrong but I'm sure it had free insurance for a year too. If only I could remember the dealer.... I don't think it was arnold clark, but someone like that. Peter Vardy maybe?

YellowWellies · 20/10/2012 14:54

apple I'm the same. You can never give someone you love too much love or affection. I don't believe the 'whole spoil the kid' thing by showing your love. You can spoil them by not telling them off, by buying them whatever they want and by never setting boundaries. But I don't believe that you can spoil anyone with love.

MissMummy1 · 20/10/2012 15:00

My mum showered me and my sisters with love, but none of us are by any means spoiled. We were taught from a young age the value of material possessions, we didn't get everything we wanted and we had very firm boundaries. She brought us up with wonderful principles and we are all so close to her because of it. If I can be half as good a mum as she is I'll feel like I've achieved something amazing! Shame dh's mum brought him up to be a spoilt brat, and they're far from close as a result.. Bitchy missmummy Grin
