I saw MW on Wednesday for my 36 week appointment. Then it'll be 38, 40, 41 unless I give birth. But for the first time she checked that was ok so I could probably have asked for a 37 week appointment if I wanted one.

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 11:57

What do you all think of these changing bags?
Expensive Lassig
Babymel ella
babymel amanda
Amanda Jungle
OiOi Hobo

Love this but think it's a tad out of our price range
Bit too expensive!

horseylady · 19/10/2012 12:05

Fatima I spent ages looking!! Best thing is go into the store and look!!

I've bought a pacapod just because they look nice and I like the pod idea, so would go for the oioi from your list!!

I couldn't justify £250 for a bag either!! But it is very nice!!

georgee · 19/10/2012 12:07

Fatima I got the OiOiHobo and haven't really used it - it wasn't 'squashy' enough if that makes sense, couldn't cram things into it. Ended up using a cheapo Graco one from TKMaxx! They usually have a fairly good range of changing bags in there if you're near one. Also, personally, I'd get one you can stick in a washing machine or at least sponge down with good results ...

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 12:14

I've had a look in store and like them all Blush
The babymel Amanda's are wipe-downable inside and out and seemed quite squashy. I like the Lassig as it looks more bag like than changing bag but think that might be a bit stiff.
We'll go and have another look on Sunday I think. We're getting it from M&P as that's where work got me vouchers for so I can treat myself a bit Smile

georgee · 19/10/2012 12:18

Oh yes, do treat yourself, it would be criminal not to! And sometimes I do look at my old, very practical and un-pretty bag and think I'd get a lift from having a nicer one (these are the days when I have no make-up on and my hair has banana in it - I'm sure you won't get days like this but it would still be lovely to have a bag that is a thing of beauty!).

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 12:21

I'm already preparing for those days. I had my hair cut yesterday from a bob I was growing out which needed styling to look descent to a slighty shorter style that I can was, mess up and leave. See i'm already pre-empting the bed hair, banana hair days, but at least i'll have a pretty bag Grin

georgee · 19/10/2012 12:32

Good for you. I haven't blow dried my hair for about three years. I'm not saying you can't with a baby but it's just easier for me to have a style you can muss up with a bit of product and leave. One black line on each eyelid and bingo, I look just about presentable in under a minute. But not with such a nice bag as yours will be. Smile

The other joy will be the constant shoulder adornment - either milk, sick or snot. I'd forgotten about that! But it's always good to check your shoulders before you leave the house. Hm, perhaps I might browse for a nice new coat to cover the baby-stained shoulders up ...

horseylady · 19/10/2012 12:49

I've left my hair long!!!

Far too difficult to style any shorter than something I can scrape back!!

Then just run ghds through then if needed!!!

People aren't used to seeing me in make up etc so I'll look rough permanently!!

ShellyBobbs · 19/10/2012 13:01

Good luck to those having babies today, I'm very jealous Grin

Horsey OMG, the hand thing! Every night I feel like I've got a massive thumb and finger and am squeezing a massive jelly cube in-between them, it doesn't feel weird as I know I'm just imagining it, it's actually really good. Didn't realise it was a 'thing' though!

Was chatting to hubby before as I wanted to do lots of walking this morning after watching the second of the harvest festivals. When I was preggers with my first, I actually used to walk 3 miles a day right up to being 2 weeks OVER due Shock I'd then go home and do all the housework and I can remember being up ladders painting our bedroom ceiling when I was overdue aswell. Crikey Confused

ShellyBobbs · 19/10/2012 13:02

My hair is also in a pony-tail length and will not be cut now for about 9 months. I'll hack at my fringe as it gets in my eyes Grin

MissMummy1 · 19/10/2012 13:08

Horsey I'm the same as you, mine is very long! I don't know if I can brave getting it cut shorter - although I did last year and it's grown back (and more) in just under a year. As a sheer coincidence I had it dyed back to (almost) my natural colour just before falling preggers so I haven't had to maintain keeping it blonde the past 8/9 months. Although I do miss having nice highlighted hair Sad - now it just looks its normal gingery brown... For me though, having longer hair has always been much less maintenance (when I'm not colouring it) as I can tie it back when I'm out on the boats/walking the dogs/cba straightening it. Plus when it's long, it's heavy and ergo less prone to bushy curliness! Still need to book an appointment to get something done to it in November though, I'm wishfully thinking a good groupon for Toni & Guy will come up again! ($20 for a $300 haircut, yes please!) Grin

I have a health visitor coming out to 'assess my house and discuss their role' at 2 today. Is that common practice? To my horror the house isn't its normal immaculate self with DH ashore. And this visit has only just been sprung on me!

MissMummy1 · 19/10/2012 13:09

Feck, whatever software he's reset the laptop with, it clearly doesn't include the pound sign in the normal place!!

LittleLolly · 19/10/2012 13:11

Well, baby arrived last night at 6.45 pm. He's absolutely beautiful and I can't get over how much I love him. Even though he only slept for 2 hours last night! Labour was bloody hard work but that old cliche is true... It was nothing as soon as he was in my arms. Will post birth story on post natal thread when I've got chance.

Good luck today nervous and petite

I just can't believe I've got a baby!!!!!!!

MissMummy1 · 19/10/2012 13:12

Wow congrats little!!! Name? Weight? Can't wait to read the birth story!!

Only a bit very jealous you're getting newbie cuddles! Envy Grin

StuntNun · 19/10/2012 13:13

Aww congratulations Little so glad to hear it. Is anyone planning to hang on until November?

Always a bit go sick you miss.

With the first two I cut my hair short as I thought it would be easier. This time I have let it grow so I can just tie it back.

I prefer the boots free changing bag. It is a very personal choice. I have been known to covet a Cath Kidston oilcloth bag, but would never justify the money. I also use washable nappies, so in the early days, especially with two in cloth, I am likely to use a bigger bag within waterproof organiser in. I have a nice Orla Keily print canvas bag from Tesco which is a lovely size. I would look for one that will stand up on its own so you can get stuff in and out with one hand. If it is falling over the place, it could be a bit annoying. Remember where you are likely to be using it- in a grotty toilet with piss on the floor, a changing table that has broken straps, balanced over an open toilet with just a tiny ledge to put things on. There is likely to be little space once pram is inside, and you will need to have one hand on baby at all times.

Please all consider getting a lock for your pram as a lot are getting stolen these days.

Titsalinabumsquash · 19/10/2012 13:17

Congratulations Lolly :)

I tried calling my MW but surprise surprise she is away until the first week of November again none of the others on the team really know me or my situation and I'm not booked in to see the consultant again. it's a bloody nightmare getting any support with this, I really think SPD needs to be better dealt with, leaving women in this level of pain is really not on and more to the point I cannot maintain a normal daily life like this, it's not just me suffering it's my kids I'm worried about.
GRRR, hurry up baby!

ditsygem · 19/10/2012 13:17

Congrats little, can't wait to hear your birth story and all about your new born hugs! xxx

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 13:18

Congratulations little very happy for you!

horseylady · 19/10/2012 13:20

We must have similar hair mm!!!! Long actually makes it more manageable!!! Not sure I'll be saying that with a toddler!!

Little congrats!!!

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 13:25

tits see your GP and let them work on your behalf cutting through the crap. You should be able to get to see the consultant if you need to, which you clearly do, and your regular MW not being available is not excuse. You have hand held notes, and they are used to assessing the person they see in front of them from scratch anyway. Make a big deal of your physical health, the children, and your mental health. Have you completed the MH assessment? If so, do it again. You are likely to score worryingly high from the vibes I am picking up on. Especially if you have had any thoughts of harming yourself recently. Obviously only say that if you have, and no need to disclose here, but I have had such thoughts previously in pregnancy, and it is more common than you would think. I am so grateful I only have twinges with my SPD. Thinking how I was last time, I was in a very dark place.

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 13:27

I want a mei tai. I want to make one though.

kissyfur · 19/10/2012 13:39

Another long haired person here, getting it cut tomorrow though, can hardly see through my fringe at the moment!

Congrats little! Look forward to hearing more when you have time to post Smile

YellowWellies · 19/10/2012 13:53

AwwwwwwwwLolly congratulations on your wee man! We thought it must have been the real thing - due to the radio silence. Can't wait to read more details on the baby thread.

Just back from my last scan, Junior is head down, ROA (grrr) but still moving a lot between positions so no worries, and measuring 50-60th centile - all good there. I had my flu jag. Also had my cervix measured and it's thinning nicely - gone from 4cm at 7 months to 2cm now - so we're heading in the right direction. We got to see some cute wiggling toes.

I also got to meet our consultant Ernest - who is lovely and a November baby himself (4th - wouldn't mind that as a due date) and who has reassured me to put my sisters' nightmare births out of my mind and just enjoy the last few weeks. He said it'll be unlikely to be 'any day now' for us as junior isn't fully engaged yet and my bump hasn't dropped - but warned me in the worst case - it could be another five - six weeks away so to try to enjoy it being preggers. I do hope it's not that long. Still that would mean MA would be a lot easier to claim...

So I've decided I need to be a bit more active and keep walking etc to try to get things moving - and to remember that this condition is normal and I'm not disabled! I need to sit on my birth ball more and not slump on the sofa...

A pal at DH's work had her first yesterday - 2 days over her due date - that would be fine by me. I'd quite handle that.
