Not squished at all VQ, it must have found a nice place to bed for the night somewhere on my person before its kamikaze leap to doom. I am also giggling to myself about it.

kissyfur · 19/10/2012 09:15

lol at the pea blonder I have found a pea in my cleavage before now Blush

Good luck to all the ladies having babies today

I was on the thread about the weird big hands thing too horsey and pasties! I think there is a name for it isn't there? Sure i found something on wikipedia about it. I'll try and link to it, it was quite fascinating.

Got woken by my leg almost going into a cramp at about 4, managed to stop it before it fully went, keeps happening tho, I'm dreading getting a full blown leg cramp, is it tonic water that helps with that?

horseylady · 19/10/2012 09:19

I've just moved a vase onto the windowsill. I've taken the curtains down as well as I'm cleaning them. Puppy dog is going mental at the vase?! She also can't go into her room as Ive just mopped it out so she's defending the dining room table from the vase (and me) while looking very confused at not being able to go to bed!! It's nearly dry so she can go back in shortly. It's such a tough dog bark too!!

Iheartpasties · 19/10/2012 09:21

Yes tonic water - coz its got quinine in it.

kirrinIsland · 19/10/2012 09:36

horsey your dog has her own room?!
My dog guards shoes and shirts. She growls ferociously whilst wagging her tail - doesn't fool anyone!

Good luck to those having babies today - looking forward to updates :)

horseylady · 19/10/2012 09:47

Yeah the dogs have their own room!! With the washing machine, dishwasher, chest freezer and booze fridge!!! They're in the living room with me at the moment, but they eat and sleep in what is the utility room. They also go in there if they feel scared by something as well or want some space. Or if they're muddy from a long walk (though getting dh to do this is like mission impossible!!) you can't get into their room from the garage at the moment which was the logic when we re designed and did the house. so my house gets trashed!!

StuntNun · 19/10/2012 09:55

Pasties I will still take the baby into work when he arrives. I had a pretty tough time with the redundancy but I'm not going to let them take that moment in the spotlight away from me. I just think life's too short to hold a grudge.

Lilliana maybe get your blood pressure checked if you've had flashing lights. Pre-eclampsia can come on suddenly and be dangerous for both mother and baby.

It's raining here but undeterred I am venturing into M&S for a treat lunch for DH and I courtesy of my mum who sent me a shiny £20 note yesterday. Thanks mum!

stunt yes you should go in and show of your precious baby. I dont work coz I am a 'stay at home mum' (I dont know how to say that so it sounds less American) and I do feel that I miss out on showing off the baby to colleagues :) I used to love it when new babies came into work, they got passed around and cuddled!!

kirrinIsland · 19/10/2012 10:43

I'll be taking my baby into the office too - even though I'd only been there 3 months (also due to redundancy / redeployment) - It seems to be the done thing, and they did get me a present :) Some of my old collegues are still there too so i'm sure they will be pleased to see us even if everybody else is just being polite!!

MissMummy1 · 19/10/2012 10:49

A lot of my friends have gone on to do postgrads at our old uni, does popping in to see them with a baby count?! Working for myself, I don't really have an office to show off my baby to Sad .... although 2 of my tutoring clients' mums have already insisted they get a cuddle some time!

Iheartpasties · 19/10/2012 10:52

I'll show my baby off at the supermarket across the road, I'm there twice daily normally!! haha

applepieinthesky · 19/10/2012 10:57

Trying to catch up on the thread. I thought I would have more time to keep up with it now I've finished work but I've barely been home all week. Now having a soak in the bath before my mw appointment at 12.40. Trying to think of some questions to ask her as she asks if I have any every time and I say no then I get home and remember them. Today is the last day I'll see my regular mw again unless I go overdue. Unreal.

Good luck to the ladies having sections today. How exciting!

I'll be taking baby into work when he's here. They've told me they want to see him before Christmas. Stunt you are absolutely right, if you want to take baby in then do, don't let them ruin it for you.

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 11:02

I work in a clinic where I would not want the clients to see me or the baby, so take mine in to the main office on the morning of the weekly meeting. I did that with DD2 and they had changed the time of the meeting, so I went in and they were all deep in discussion. I kinda said hi, and held baby up 'Lion King' style, then left. It had taken a lot of effort, as I had had a section so had to arrange a lift, and I live some distance away. I may not bother this time. I am friends with a few on FB and will probably suggest they pop to see me. One of them I would class as a real friend, and she is newly pg again so she can definately have cuddles.

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 11:09

Morning everyone! Happy first day of my maternity leave Grin

Good luck to those having babies today!

We had our active birth antenatal class last night, it was good. DH said he found it better than he was expecting, think it helped for someone else to tell him all the details instead of just me.

Got a fab leaving present from work, a bear wearing a t-shirt with the nickname for the bump on it (an old lady name that we won't be using for the baby) and an £80 Mamas and Papas voucher Shock So we get to go shopping. Any ideas what we can buy? I think I'm going to treat myself to a nice changing bag.

We've got DHs cricket dinner tonight so I'm going to have to find something to fit in. Also, it's my sister birthday tomorrow so we're going to go out for some drinks and to Red Hot World Buffet and then Sunday we've got a tour round the other Midwife Unit that we can go to.

I've got a list of jobs I need to crack on with but at the moment i'm drinking tea and watching This Morning

blonderthanred · 19/10/2012 11:12

No-one at my work is really interested in babies, they're all far too bohemian and think I'm terribly bourgeois. DH's work are far more interested - and he works in the same building as where we have to register the birth so he will get his 'Lion King' moment.

Hope everyone's doing well today either bringing on or patiently waiting for their babies!

applepieinthesky · 19/10/2012 11:13

How often is everyone seeing their mw now? I thought once you get to 36 weeks, especially if its your first that you are seen weekly towards the end. But my next appointment after today isn't until November! So 36 weeks, 38 weeks and then only if I go overdue. Does that seem right?

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 11:19

I saw mine last at 37 weeks, and the next time I see anyone will be at pre-op check at 39. I would prefer to be seen weekly with my history of PE.

horseylady · 19/10/2012 11:26

I've not seen mine since 36 weeks. I'll not see her till 39 weeks. Then no idea??? Think it's fortnightly actually from 34 weeks but I know I've seen mine every three weeks due to her holidays etc

georgee · 19/10/2012 11:26

I was quite shocked that at my 28 week check up the MW said 'See you at 38 weeks then.' I had an appt with the GP at 34 weeks but really it's a long time isn't it! After that it's a 40 week sweep and plan of action appointment with the MW and then a 41 week consultant's appointment. They've been pretty hands-off though.

apple I saw my midwife at 36 weeks and will see her again at 38. I was monthly appointments but think it's fortnightly after 36 weeks. I am onto DC2 though, so don't know if it's different with DC1?

I have resorted to swigging gaviscon straight from the bottle, it's just not working anymore :(

kirrinIsland · 19/10/2012 11:37

They won't do sweeps here until 41 weeks :( Hoping I won't last that long though!

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 11:43

Apple I'm a first timer and they saw me at 34 weeks then its, 36, 38 and 40 weeks

FatimaLovesBread · 19/10/2012 11:44

Because my consultant wants to look at induction at term do you think my Midwife will let me have a sweep before then, although the appointment before that will be 38 weeks. Would that be too early?

georgee · 19/10/2012 11:55

Fatima it partly depends on what they find when they try the sweep, if your cervix is 'favourable', and ripening - this means opening a bit and in the right position (ie not tucked away) then they might sweep as it's more likely to work. However, I think the baby has also to be at a certain level of engagement too for that. But as Kirrin says, sometimes it's a policy not to do it before a certain time, all depends on your hospital/practice/MW. Induction at term may well include a sweep as a first attempt!
