So glad things are going well honey. Hope you are feeling better too. Weejo I second what everyone else has said - ante-natal classes were nice but when it comes to the crunch, everything sort of flies out the window. Read as much as you can about labour and that will be better than any class.

Exhausted today, wonder where my iron levels are at? Hope I haven't picked up DD's illnesses. She's been so grumpy and tired again today, and I've been very grumpy back, poor thing. Especially when she accidentally did a poo on the carpet. Part of me thinks I should be waiting until baby two makes an appearance to continue with potty training but I think it may just get harder?!

It's hot here today, about 30 degrees, think I might go make myself an ice-coffee to cheer up.

Is anyone else on number two starting to get really really terrified? I keep saying to myself, I can do it, I can do it, I can do it ....

cashmerewebsandspidersheads · 30/10/2012 02:17

A belated congrats Honey
Walnut I'm really worried about going from one to two....last time I spent a lot of time on the sofa dozing and feeding. I'm hoping that being more experienced will make some things easier.
I'm finding it increasingly hard to look after my toddler with a 35 week bump. He kneed bump really hard yesterday so I'll also be glad when baby is out and can be put somewhere safe!

cashmerewebsandspidersheads · 30/10/2012 02:27

Weejo HV do an antenatal visit at about 36 weeks and can go through breastfeeding with you. Mine was really helpful. Maybe phone to get appt booked in.

NCT 'Happy Birthday' is quite a good book.

Walnut8 · 30/10/2012 02:42

cashmere I remember going through several DVD boxsets while feeding last time - was quite relaxing. Have no idea how to manage this time. A midwife actually said to me I needed to think about preparing activities ahead - a box of books, DD's favourite DVDs (groan, more peppa pig).

And yes absolutely on getting baby two out and safe! I get a lot of accidental knees to the bump, and am always getting into awkward positions (often with DD climbing all over me).

SpottyTeacakes · 30/10/2012 05:59

I'm terrified of having two too! Dd will be going to nursery two mornings a week so that's something. Also for Christmas she will have lots of new books and toys, have got her a boy doll with bath etc. my friend has said it's so much easier second time round as she knows what she's doing so here's hoping!

Woken with a headache today Sad but going to a local garden centre which has a farm, Halloween stories and crafts, tractor rides and best of all coffee!

ISpyPumpkinPie · 30/10/2012 06:15

I'm also getting quite worried how I'll cope with two. My main memories of DS's early days are lots of lovely, long dozy feeds as well and I'm just not sure that it's going to be possible this time. I have built up a collection of books, activities etc that are going to be for him to use just when I'm feeding but think the novelty might wear off quite quickly.

Also atm just getting him out the door can be tricky - has become a real flashpoint for tantrums - so getting two of them ready seems daunting. Think there might be a bit of regression in terms of wanting to go in the buggy when he sees the baby being pushed around too. Aaargh!!

Right, going to stop stressing myself out now. There's bound to be some difficult days, but I'm sure on the whole it'll work itself out. Think normal toddler behaviour seems harder to deal with atm due to hormones/enormous bump combo and that's colouring my view of how things are going to be.

JoJoB77 · 30/10/2012 06:16

Very nervous about having two too! I just hope that having done it before i know what to expect this time around. I'm kind of thinking that having a baby that you can put down and won't run off will be easier than chasing after a willfull 18 month old (kidding myself?)

Hope you have a fun day spotty

I finish work next week and can't wait Smile

Clarella · 30/10/2012 07:21

Morning! I do feel for you ladies onto no. two plus - I know several families who had 3 under 3 and a half and really don't know how they did it - but I guess they did. I have an early memory of being jealous of my bf sister and asking for some. Obviously told no!

Mw appt today, looking forward to finding out if baby engaging head at all. An especially hormonal, feeling funny and quite on edge day yesterday plus odd lower back ache got me to check for uti but it was clear. Doc joked - well if its not uti sit back and wait for the contractions! Not. Helpful.

That sounds a nice day spotty. I'm hoping to make it to the Baltic to carve pumpkins with my friend and her children after mw. I'm calling her my doula as she's the font if all sensible baby knowledge.

Clarella · 30/10/2012 07:38

Total stupid brain freeze - do you do a urine sample in the morning first thing before eating etc or after breakfast? Didn't have a 34 wk appt and got confused then too, whereas the hospital just get it when you go? I always seem to have sugar in my wee whether first thing in morn or after (apparently leaky kidneys but ggt blood test was v good) and so not sure what's better as it does niggle me.

FriendofDorothy · 30/10/2012 07:41

It doesn't matter when you do your sample. I quite often do mine just before I go to an appointment.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/10/2012 07:41

I always do mine first thing but I don't think it's a big deal either way

Clarella · 30/10/2012 07:46

Would have thought id have worked it out by now. Thanks :)

Looking forward to hearing more about Dash honey!

Cookiesandcream06 · 30/10/2012 07:49

Great news honey I do love your updates and great to hear Dash is doing so well. Really do wonder who will be next!?

I built my Moses basket stand yesterday just in case (obviously now ill go overdue!)

I got some nice Christmassy jarmie bottoms from Primark for a fiver and going to use some £1.50 vest tops that are already a bit loved/stretched ! Got some little slipper sock things for a couple of quid from Primark as I hate cold feet. Although yes never actually used my dressing gown last time.

strawberry everything DP does is irritating the hell out of me this week.
Literally him breathing! Did the Chinese help? I'm always extra moody when hungry which is all the time whole packet of mince pies were consumed yesterday [hblush]

Also having many a 'how will i cope with 2' moments you are not alone. ispy dd is a NIGHTMARE to get out the door ATM too, fights over coat, shoes, general tantrums. Does anyone who already have 2 have any tips? Someone please reassure me it will be ok?!?

Felling a little bit better today but just so exhausted. Pretty sure iron levels are fine as they were really good on my last blood test. Hadnt dropped since booking. Midwife tomorrow though. I can't help but feel there really aren't enough appointments.. I'm sure they should be fortnightly by now ? No more plug though..
weejo I must say I didn't learn anything from my antenatal classes last time and I had 4 2 hour sessions. I knew more just from researching/reading and was a geek at the classes as I knew it all ( despite being by far the youngest there!)

HoneyMum21 · 30/10/2012 08:10

Will update on Dash later but quick question- how necessary is it to have a hood on the Moses basket? The one on the basket we got isn't very secure so we were just gonna do without. Is that ok?

emilyeggs · 30/10/2012 08:13

After reading all your worries about having two dc's it's making me realise the benefits to maybe only having one! Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 30/10/2012 08:17

Honey our hood on ours doesn't stay up so it's always just been laid down. It's just to make it look nice really!

AlisonDB · 30/10/2012 08:18

Morning all,
My biggest worry is not dealing with 2, as my DS is 5, and is super excited and super helpful,
(although huge concern is he'll try to pick up/carry baby if its crying and I'm not in the room!)

My biggest thing is work! I'm a childminder and I LOVE the kids I have at the moment, a 3 yr old boy, a 14 month old girl, 14 month old boy, 21 month old boy, and an 8 yr old girl (after school)

Because of this I am only taking 5 weeks off work......
I know if I take the full time I'm allowed for mat leave I'll lose all these kids, and will spend the entire mat leave, readvertising places, interviewing new families and then when I start back ill have to settle 4 new kids (if I'm lucky enough to fill all my places) as well as looking after new baby which i know will spoil my mat leave.

DH is a painter & decorator so his quietest time of the yr is winter and we cant afford to do with out his income as well.....
So he is taking off 16 weeks (my mat leave) and is officially covering me so I can claim my mat allowance.
So he'll be around to help with baby, school runs for DS and help with the kids who all love him.

But I just worry that I won't have the time to spend enjoying the baby, cos i know its going to be full on and i wont be able to just take myself off for walks with the baby, sit and feed without interuption, have lie ins if needed, etc... im sure i will be fine....

grrrrrrr it's times like this I wish i was still employed rather than self employed,
My mat leave with DS1 was so straight forward, I was lucky and able to take almost 1 yr off. And loved it!!

AlisonDB · 30/10/2012 08:19

Honey, I think the good is just there for decoration and not for any practical reason, I wouldn't worry.
X

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 30/10/2012 09:00

Alison, get yourself a decent stretchy wrap type sling, tie it on in the morning and pop baby in and out as necessary - some people even manage to feed in them! Day long cuddles and hands free for other things :)

Honey, i assume it's just a pretty sunshade (with no uv protection) or to cut down information overload. Uv not too big a deal this time of year, and just drape a muslin for #2!

Month today

StrawberrytallCAKE · 30/10/2012 09:27

Definitely take the hood off, it's not really necessary.

cookies I thought I wasn't hungry then ate about 3 times more than I normally do! Unfortunately had horrible reflux and had to rely on the tums all night after that. I don't know I it was because I was hungry or tired yesterday but I hope I like him better today.

WeeJo08 · 30/10/2012 11:01

Thanks so much for all your reassurances, I feel lots better about the whole thing now. I heard back from the community midwives and they have said that now at least two of our classes (7th and 14th) will be going ahead. That combined with what you've all said about doing my own research, looking online, etc has settled me a lot. Thank you :)

Honey Such good news about Dash! All of your posts make me go all gooey as I think about skin-to-skin, feeding, cuddles, etc....though maybe not so much the volcanic poo Grin My DH is now asking about you and Dash every day as well!

Cashmere Thanks for the advice about the health visitor, I think that would be really useful. Maybe I will ask my midwife about that tomorrow (I have my 34 week appointment)

Going to buy the rest of our nappies tomorrow in the Boots sale. We are going for 5 packs of 27 in total. We've gone for Huggies....guess we'll wait and see how they suit! Regarding which brand is "best", I've heard it very much depends on the baby! But if anyone is interested in Huggies too, there is a 1/3 off them in Boots.

Walnut8 · 30/10/2012 11:44

You'll prob try all sorts of nappies as the baby grows. Depending on what is on special and whether you are having problems with leakage or poor fitting etc. All this talk of projectile poo is reminding me how often young babies need to be changed. It's amazing how much you forget after only a couple of years!

DD will also be going to preschool next year for two mornings a week and she's already looking forward to it. She can't start until March however, so we will have a few months together with the new baby with not much reprieve!

Alison that does sound hard, but I'm sure once you have your routines worked out, it will be okay. You have good reasons for returning early, so I'm sure it will work for the best.

Finally got around to washing the moses basket, baby bath, & play mats ... still putting off the hospital bag. Really not concerned though, I'll be going to at least full term I think (34 weeks now). It's going to be 34 degrees here tomorrow, think it will be spent drinking cold drinks inside with DD - can't stand being warm at the moment. At least DD is still sick so doesn't mind so much.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/10/2012 13:00

I don't recommend tractor rides with a toddler when pregnant. Or a toddler who falls over all the time almost pulling you down with them. I need a lie down!

WeeJo08 · 30/10/2012 13:59

Okay, can I ask you guys a (probably TMI Blush ) question? Are any of you a bit...um...discharge-y at the moment? I keep having panics that it is my waters when I can feel it happening!

Stacks · 30/10/2012 14:05

weejo I've had the same thing, at my last appointment MW said you get LOTS more discharge in the 3rd tri... It's extremely unpleasant though, the one thing about being pg I've hated.
