Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 29/10/2012 13:24

weejo do your hospital do any 'early pregnancy' days? Ours do on Saturdays. Maybe look into it and gate c rash one of those so at least you get the tour of the hospital. And there's normally breastfeeding counsellors etc to talk to.

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 13:47

Weejo, that really isnt good!
Not if you really wanted to do the classes and have already been moved once before.

We didnt do any classes with Ds1, and we havent with this one either.
Partly cos we live in the Netherlands so we would have had to attend a class in Dutch (our dutch is not that great to be able to understand what was being said)
Or we'd have to find one of the very expensive, English classes here.

Although i dont know for sure if a class would have helped,
Not going to one definatly didnt hinder the process.

Every labour is different, they can tell you what to expect and give you ways to deal with it, but i really believe that your instinct takes over to a certain level when you are in labour.

I think what i am trying to say is dont worry too much or get overly stressed if you cant switch to another class.
You will be fine, just listen to your instinct and the delivering MW, she will
help with how to breathe, suggest positions, etc...

(sorry if i sound dismisive or patronising i just wanted to try to reasure you everything will be fine)
Xx

HoneyMum21 · 29/10/2012 13:57

weejo that sucks completely. I don't know what to suggest other than to say the BF workshop was the most informative part of our nhs classes so def try and fight your way into one of those. The stuff about labour was nothing that couldn't be learnt in books etc and all went totally out of the window once in the middle of it and the parentcrafy stuff like bathing and changing is taught on the ward after the birth where we are. Hope you manag to sort something

WeeJo08 · 29/10/2012 14:10

Thank you all for being so reassuring, you have made me feel better. I just called my own midwife who was much nicer than the community midwife who called me earlier. My midwife said that they are trying really hard to sort something out as an alternative and she will be calling me tomorrow. That has helps me feel a bit better too. Going to overdose on pasta now....that'll help!

HoneyMum21 · 29/10/2012 14:11

Dash is off the phototherapy :) he's also graduated out of the incubator and into a cot this morning. I was changing his nappy and just as I took the dirty one off he projectile-pooed over the wall of the incubator and the nurse said he could move into a cot. I swear he grinned as he did it Grin was obviously ready for a proper bed! Got to put him in clothes for the first time too- the tiny baby stuff is really looSe on him but he's got big feet which almOst fill the feet in the suit already and really long legs and arms!

2blessed · 29/10/2012 14:17

Really good news honey

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 14:35

Honey that's so lovely!! Projectile poo must be a really good sign I reckon Grin

WeeJo I'm glad your mw is trying to sort something for you Smile

itsMYNutella · 29/10/2012 14:35

I've been away all weekend and have been frantically catching up Honey congratulations!!! Thanks Brew and Biscuit all round!
So happy to hear little Dash is doing so well! (great name by the way!)

I suppose I should also pack a hospital bag almost 32 weeks... blimey!

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 15:27

Wonderful news about Dash, Honey you must be thrilled!!

WeeJo, glad they are trying to do something to help you!
:-)

MyDaydream · 29/10/2012 15:34

weejo its a shame about your antenatal classes, hope they do get something sorted for you. We've not bothered with any because provision in my area is so rubbish. I'd get a 2 hour class, so thought I'd save my travelling time and just read lots instead.
honey that's great about Dash, you must be very happy.
I'm out shopping for stuff. I now have nipple and maternity pads, new black leggings since im sick of my maternity jeans and lots of big pants! A very unsexy haul really. I'm now looking for nice pjs and a dressing gown but am struggling to find something cheap that feels nice, doesn't have a cutesy picture on the front but also doesn't look like something a 90 year old would wear.

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 15:57

I've got 2 pairs of PJs traditional trousers and button up the front shirt type top, that I can wear a vest top underneath (from Primark)

i found the ward to be VERY warm, with DS1, i had packed my dressing gown but never ended up using it, instead I'd sit in my pj bottoms, vest and Bra. I only put the pj top on if I was getting out of bed to go to the loo, or had visitors,
The vest top was easy too if you are wanting to BF.
ooh and I didn't take slippers just big fluffy socks instead (again Primark!)

MyDaydream · 29/10/2012 16:20

I found a dressing gown in new look, wanted more for throwing over my shoulders when sitting up in bed feeding and feeling presentable in those first weeks when I'm too tired to get dressed but we have visitors!
I tried Primark but they seemed to be restocking and nothing I liked was in my size. It's also half term here so I was fighting my way through crowds of teenagers so might give them another go next week when it'll be quiet.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 17:35

Very wintery today so dinner will be chicken, bacon, leeks and peas in a creme fraiche and mustard sauce topped with mash and cheese yum!

WeeJo08 · 29/10/2012 17:50

Ooooh thanks Spotty! Think I might do something similar Grin Nom nom nom!

HoneyMum21 · 29/10/2012 17:54

Of all places I found lovely soft stretchy pyjamas in a very useful burgundy colour in sainsburys and they have been lovely and comfy. The top wasn't so useful for the min but chucked on a cheap vest and button up tshirt I stole off DH and was sorted post labour (still feels so weird saying that- cant get my head around the fact I've actually given birth after planning to have an elcs). But back to the point- sainsburys are worth checking out for cheapish (about £12) nice pjs.

Thanks for all the messages about Dash - just had some lovely snuggly skin to skin for the first time as he's had too many tubes and wires up till now. Then changed his nappy and clothes as all were wet, then changed his nappy again (just getting to the end of meconium stage and getting onto the piccalilli stage as it is called by the midwife) and got him all snuggled up in his cot.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 18:07

It's yummy WeeJo Grin

honey I forgot you were having an ELCS that must have made it even more of a shock for you! Lovely news about skin to skin Smile

ISpyPumpkinPie · 29/10/2012 18:22

Wonderful news about Dash Honey - glad to hear he's doing so well.

Can really sympathise with the intrusive questions. MIL asked me about tearing in front of FIL last time - don't know who was more Blush, me or him!!

Had my first tiny boob leak yesterday. Not really noticed much change until now, however was still bf DS until June so think that might have something to do with it. I'm sure that won't exempt me from the uncomfy bit when milk comes in though (at least I know now it doesn't last!) Leakage has served to remind me that things are going to be happening soon - 35 weeks tomorrow Shock.

emilyeggs · 29/10/2012 18:42

Awww just reading old threads, honey you are talking about Dash's first gig at Brixton Smile. Nice to look back.

Clarella · 29/10/2012 18:48

Aw that's lovely to hear honey!

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 18:49

Im 33wks today!
Only 7 more left! and I'm in a total state of
cant wait/must wait/excited/terrified!

Just tucked into a big bowl of carbonara pasta cooked for me by DH & DS!

Honey, I just got all goosebumpy thinking about skin to skin time!
Is he still being tube fed? It must be lovely being dressing him changing him etc... :-)

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 19:13

spotty your supper plans sound yummy! Having a roast up here in the frozen north too.

honey so lovely to hear the news about dash, and sounds like great progress. Was skin to skin really nice?

Off to asda/sainsburys/tesco in search of pjs for me tomorrow i think, after sorting out new doors. Didn't think I'd still be tiling bathrooms at 33 weeks either!

StrawberrytallCAKE · 29/10/2012 19:48

honey sounds lovely, you must be so pleased!! Well done Dash!

I am feeling really moody with dh right now, not sure if it is justified but I don't seem to be able to stop it.

We're having chinese tonight.

JoJoB77 · 29/10/2012 21:12

Evening

Fantastic news about Dash honey! Hope you all get to go home very soon Smile

Well i tried my Dream Genii last night and the verdict is a big thumbs up Grin. I still woke but only once or twice but managed to drop back off again quick enough. It got me in such a comfy position, would recommend it for those starting to find it uncomfortable to sleep (thats most if not all of us then Wink).

7 weeks left today and i'm feeling some major nesting urges coming on. I have a list as long as my arm to go through this week. Hospital bag being one of them. Might have to pop to sainsburys to look for nice 'jama's...

emilyeggs · 30/10/2012 00:06

Grrrr! Restless leg syndrome Sad
