New thread here ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Clarella · 29/10/2012 09:12

Was all set to attack hospital bag today (round 3) but I've got so much pain from pressure in back passage I'm feeling very sorry for myself. Also feel a little crampy at front too. Needs to be done though - blooming 36 wks today :/ memory like an effing sieve too I can't get organised for anything!

Thoroughly had enough of building work now. Putting my boots on in the middle of the night to walk to the bathroom for a,wee is not fun. Don't want to have to be timing bowls and bladder to plasterers and men working on bathroom (bowls esp unpredictable and uncharacteristically loose). sorry tmi. Hoping just today and Thursday and then its just me and DH doing stuff. Looking forward to chucking out horrid plaster caked carpets (not sure we can afford new ones now but floorboards are ok) and painting the nursery, though baby will be in with us, just nice to have a clean space for him :)

Right positive head on, maybe little coffee will help?!

Secondsop · 29/10/2012 09:14

Hello, I was thinking of getting a "baby's first Christmas" bauble but that's it - hadn't occurred to me to get any other Christmas presents for the baby as he'll already have heaps of new stuff plus he won't know it's Christmas.

What does one do about unwanted bump touching? My elder sister has taken to playfully poking or patting my bump whenever she sees me and I'd really rather she wouldn't. Yesterday she also slapped my bottom and said "your butt's getting smaller" (I have indeed lost weight) and that also felt intrusive. It's not as if we're a "touchy feely" family to begin with. I muttered "don't slap me" or something like that yesterday but that's all I've said so far.

Clarella · 29/10/2012 09:17

Oh that does sound good honeymum, I'm sure its tough seeing the drip nut nice to know he's getting the good stuff from you :) how's his weight going? Xx

Clarella · 29/10/2012 09:18

I meant tube and but not nut.... ffs

HoneyMum21 · 29/10/2012 09:25

He hasnt been weighed again so not sure. Hes got really long arms and legs though :)

As far as the bump touching goes I hated it but would gladly have taken that over the intrusive personal questions from MIL people in the past few days - 'oooooh, so, did you tear?Did they cut? How many stitches did you need? Oooh, you're expressing so much milk, do you feel a bit like a cow?'

HoneyMum21 · 29/10/2012 09:28

Clarella - Eeek, 36 weeks. That's so exciting. Big recommend for hospital bag- couple of flannels that DH can wet with cold water for your forehead. DH was wetting tissues down but they kept disintegrating and I was so damn hot!

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 09:35

Honey it all sounds really positive, with dd they kept saying 'oh she can go home today once the Dr has seen her' this went on for about four or five days until they finally let us go! Do they have a place on SCBU for you to stay if you want to?

Eugh I hate bump touching, my step mum does it. I hate any touching though yuck yuck yuck only dd and dp are allowed to touch me -an dp is rationed-- Grin

Clarella you are getting very close, sounds like your body is getting ready so I would definitely get that bag packed! I recommend getting some little sanitary disposal bags (or nappy bags same thing) as maternity pads don't have individual wraps. Also moist toilet tissues were good as you don't have to wipe as hard with them, I had natural ones with aloe in. Coffee is definitely in order, I have to admit I haven't cut down at all....

I want pate!!

Also should I really have to tell DP that four inch nails and coffee mugs DO NOT belong in the bloody bathroom?!

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 29/10/2012 09:36

I'm assuming other people will deal with Christmas pressies, tbh. I'm only buying for kids!

Seconds, poke her back and ask if she's got one in there, cheeky mare!

I've had a couple of people give the bump a little pat, but it's been in the same vein as they'd hug/air kiss me so i don't mind; they just want to say hi to the baby!

Clarella, I've packed:

Nappy bag for PidjChick with nappies, cotton wool, a set of clothes and a blanket

Rucksack for me with nightie, pads, toiletries etc for labour

Carrier bag of snacks

All three will get bunged in the car in a panicked flap, then I'll get dp or my mum (has spare key) to bring me stuff when they visit need to tidy bedroom before mother sees it My parents, and hopefully MIL depending on trains and other commitments, will be in to see us almost immediately - dp will call them once we're successfully settled and I'm off to the shower providing all goes to plan [hhmm]

StrawberrytallCAKE · 29/10/2012 09:39

That sounds very promising Clarella! One week to full term for you!!!!!!!

I'm definitely finishing my hospital bag too, dried apricots are top of my list.

Clarella · 29/10/2012 09:43

Ladies thanks so much for the advice! Most stuff is on the list or in the 'dust contamination free box' but keep missing really useful bits eg nappy sacks and blooming nappies! Everytime I have the car to.go for these things I've either forgotten or had a crappy day or the builders have needed me in (my excuse) - local shops don't have maternity sanitary stuff and decided to get a load of Asdas own newborn - which is a,little car trip.

Woke up in night thinking - flannel, fan and flipflops - three fs - then couldn't remember wot they were this morn - thanks honey for the mem jog!

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 09:53

Honey, glad to hear Dash is still doing well, sorry you had such a rubbishy day yesterday, I was an emotional train wreck day 3-5 with DS1 and he was at home, I would hate to think how I would have been if he was in hospital, take time to look after yourself too xxx

Werewolves, I know what you mean about the dreams! Its horrible!
My dad died 2 years ago and he was so thrilled to be a granddad to DS1, that when I got preg this time I was really sad he wasn't here to share again, but was able to rationalise it somehow, now though I am having such vivid dreams I'm waking cold, sweaty & crying!!

On the other hand I woke the night before last after having a rather racy dream about my exboyf from when we where in high school!
Haven't seen him for about 18 years!!! (That was a rather nice dream)

Gils, we are definatly not buying little one a Christmas present,
We did let DS1 buy him a little gift, which can be wrapped as a Christmas present, but no he has everything he needs and then some!
Life is going to get expensive enough without buying for a baby who won't know what day it is. Lol
(I remember we bought DS1 tons for his 1st Christmas - born September, he didn't have a clue, and slept most of the day away)

Oh my word!!

DH is on decorating overdrive at the moment, it is his job so I should be grateful but I think he is nesting now more than me!!!
He is coming home from work and painting here (to get the fumes gone by the time baby is born)
He so far in the space of 2 weeks has redecorated baby's room,
Painted the bathroom, our bedroom, and now is on DS1 bedroom (not fair apparently to leave him out)
And he now has plans to start on the outside of the house too!!!
Seriously if I'd known I'd get a total extreme makeover home I'd have got preg again yrs ago! Lol

Walnut8 · 29/10/2012 10:00

Honey, I hope today is much better for you. The hormone drop is not fun Sad. It sounds like things are otherwise going pretty well though. I can't believe people asked you whether you tore or had stitches etc?! That is completely uncalled for! I would never ask - it's the sort of thing you only share when/if you want to in my opinion. I ducked away from my MIL quite early on in my pregnancy when she tried to touch my bump and these days she actually asks! Other people don't ask though and I don't mind so much with friends and family but definitely not strangers.

The best thing in my hospital bag the first time around was juice boxes. I didnt want to eat at all but super sweet "juice" was a lifesaver for the 24 hrs I was in labour. Snacks were eaten by DH though.

Clarella · 29/10/2012 10:24

Yep boxes of ribena on shopping list. Plus almonds and nine bars. Do we need a towel?

I've missed a,post I think honeymum - who asked you about stitches?!?!

I reckon I will most likely be very over due and need to be induced - I feel much better about the state of the house chaos if I think like that!

MyDaydream · 29/10/2012 10:40

We won't buy Christmas presents for baby, he might not be here, if he is he won't have a clue what's going on because he'll be so new so there doesn't seem any point. I'm going to do a bauble too, but I want to turn it into a Christmas tradition that he gets a new bauble every Christmas. I imagine there'll be some people MIL who do buy baby Christmas gifts and others that just buy "Yey new baby" gifts, I'm hoping so I've not planned on buying any toys!
Seconds can you do "funny, yours is getting bigger" and grab her arse? I put it out there very early in my pregnancy that uninvited bump touchers would be hugely frowned upon. Nobody asks, my face naturally falls into angry scowl I think people are too scared to (and I'd still say no unless he was actually moving)
Honey sounds like it's all going in the right direction for you, hope today is less weepy for you though.
I just keep having really boring, but vivid, dreams. So I'll be in the shopping centre, or visiting family. I think DP go the pregnancy dreams symptom, he's always doing something entertaining. Although speaking to my mum last night and she said that she'd had a dream that baby was here and she was cuddling him!
I'm going hospital bag shopping today, although only for things like big granny panties and pads. Snacks and drinks can wait until a little bit later just so they don't get eaten/drunk in the meantime. I'm hoping Mr Postman will bring the Boots babyclub vouchers so I can go get the nappy bag too.

WeeJo08 · 29/10/2012 10:45

It's good news Monday! Just found out today that my brother- and sister-in-law are expecting their second! So, so excited for them. Baby is due at the beginning of May. Their first son has Downs syndrome, so they have had a CVS this time and all has come back clear. They are over in Australia though, so I am already plotting whether we can go over next Christmas!! So excited to be an Auntie again! :) (Number 7!)

34 weeks today and it turns out that your hospital bag doesn't pack itself...who knew?!

2blessed · 29/10/2012 10:56

weejo you've shattered my illusion about the hospital bag. I just keep staring at it hoping it will sort itself out...

honey really pleased to hear Dash's progress and hope you're both able to go home soon.

Hope everyone else is good and is wrapped up for this weather.

Had a busy weekend, went to the baby show at Earls Court and came out armed with goodies for LO and me. Next one is in February - can't wait to go with LO!
Baked 2 cakes yesterday for DP's birthday. Carrot and sultana and jam sponge, I know he'll like the latter with custard. Was first time baking in my new kitchen and I absolutely love it!
I'm beginning to like the bump touching but only sometimes and they should always ask first. I have told people no if I'm in a foul mood. Its nicer to invite someone to touch when LO is moving zumbaing around in there. DP's Dsis called me 'fats' last night to which I replied 'you can call me rose cos I'm blooming right now and not fat!' Cheeky!

Secondsop · 29/10/2012 10:58

Thanks for your comments about the bump touching! It's reassuring to know that I'm not just being massively over sensitive about it.

honey that all sounds really positive re little Dash.

Ugh I hadn't even considered the possibility of people asking intrusive questions about the birth. I am finding that I sort of want other people to butt out of things a bit now and let us get towards the birth but this is whn everyone wants to ask about it because I look like I'm about to pop any second. I'm even starting to get cross with people asking if I know what I'm having because I'm not sharing it with all and sundry and feel awkward saying something that amounts to "we do... But we're not telling YOU".

Gaah, so hormonal today. But I did just have a really good session with the diabetic nurse. She was a bit cross with the dietician's advice that i should try to stick to 3 meals without snacks, and said I positively should snack. I'm also being put on metformin to enable me to eat a bit more - she said I shouldn't be losing weight at this stage. She also said I'd done really well so far in terms of controlling my sugars and that i shouldnt feel down on myself or frustrated, which almost made me a little teary.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 11:06

Seconds so glad you had a good appointment with your diabetes nurse, I hope she has managed to reassure you?

I've written a list of all the things I want to batch cook, going to get some foil tray things from eBay, they're only £5 for 50 or something.

I didn't eat anything in labour last time and obviously can't have sugary drinks so all I need is bits for me and baby. Also there's a massive Sainsburys just down the road from the hospital so DP can easily go and get anything I need (he drank about 50 cups of coffee last time!). Agree RE the flannel oh and don't forget lip balm!

MyDaydream · 29/10/2012 11:10

I'd not thought about people asking details of the birth because I'd never think to do it, I wouldn't want to know about the gory parts of peoples births. I might just go all A list celeb and bring out "no comment" if I think it's too personal!
Seconds sounds like you've got a good diabetic nurse, hope you keep getting great advice and support.

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 11:14

WeeJo, that is fantastic news! Made up for you!

DayDream, we also do a new bauble (or 2) each yr, and now DS is 5, he has his own little Christmas tree in his room, and the past couple of yrs he has chosen his own, which is really cool, he now has quite a little collection, Accsesorize do a fantastic range of Christmas decorations if you wait till January they are usually 70%off too,
He has Eskimos, gingerbread men & women, a tree with a Union Jack flag, a wooden Father Christmas and a reindeer with movable arms & legs...
It's become our tradition that he buys a new decoration every January.

MyDaydream · 29/10/2012 11:22

That's really cool Alison, me and my mum always go to this garden centre that has an amazing Christmas section and overspend on heavily reduced decorations!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 29/10/2012 11:28

Hi everyone just a quick hello, I'm resting today as have another ear infection! Managed to get some ear drops from the pharmacy but the lady wasn't happy to give them to me tbh. Just what I needed on holiday eh?! Got about 2hrs sleep last night what with the pain so while kids and DH are in the pool this afternoon I'm gunna sleep!

Good luck with bag packing everyone!

AlisonDB · 29/10/2012 11:48

Oh Stacey! Rubbish timing for an ear infection! Hope it clears up quickly for you. x

WeeJo08 · 29/10/2012 12:30

RANT ALERT. Apologies.

I just got a call from the community midwives at our hospital telling me that our antenatal class on the 7th November has been cancelled. I said okay, is there an alternative class, she said yes, on the 5th December. I mentioned that I thought that would be a little close to our due date (10th December). I also asked, does that mean our classes will run from the 14th November and end on the 5th? She then tells me, "No, I mean your block of antenatal classes are cancelled as there is a shortage of midwives, so we want you to do the block of antenatal classes starting on the 5th December."

WTF??!! Angry

What part of the "We're due on the 10th December" was unclear?! We've already been moved from doing the October antenatal classes and now our November ones have been cancelled.

I know some people don't choose to do the antenatal classes, but as this is our first baby and we don't have any family here in London, we were both keen to do them. It's such short notice to cancel them and NCT is very expensive (I also don't know if we would get booked on an NCT class at this late stage.) I'm really upset about this.

Sorry for the rant, ladies, I'm just upset.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2012 12:34

WeeJo that's rubbish, I'm not sure what to suggest. I think round here there are some 'sessions' you can do that aren't nhs or nct more run by holistic therapists, would that be something worth considering? Or seeing if another hospital has a one day class you could go to?
