Where I used to work we used DF118's in early labour.

Where I am now, its codeine and paracetomol.

I think I preferred the DF's.

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 13:52

What do they give ladies post section where you work detective ?

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:59

Initially PR volterol at end of section, topped up with paracetomol I tend to give the first dose of paracetomol just as feeling has come back to legs from the spinal. Oramorph, after that, and then after 16 hours, Ibuprofen.

Most women alternate having the tablets together, and Oramorph in between to top up.

Where I was before it was (and I think still is) co-codomol (30/500) and volterol, with Oramorph. I haven't found either regime better to be honest! Both about the same in terms of levels of pain and mobilisation.

WaitingForMe · 09/10/2012 14:23

Laminated cupboards plans and baby clothes maps? MM and YW you put me to shame!

My inlaws don't make tea. MIL has no interest in understanding that having OCD does not mean I'm rigidly inflexible and antisocial. She took the label and made it her own. The biggest problem I have (it appears) it being against people interfering and helping out when visiting counts as interfering. TBH I just let her roll with it. But I'd be astounded if she ever thought to bring biscuits or offer to help in any way.

My lot and our friends are great, DH will bung the actual mince pies in the oven but they'll make their own drinks. I'm not going to be offering cafe standard service with the bonus of a newborn to cuddle Wink

YellowWellies · 09/10/2012 14:30

Ahhhhh your inlaws sound like mine Waiting. You have my sympathies! 'm going for the 'starve them out approach' this time they come up after being a fecking waitress last time. DFIL has Parkinsons and has given up doing anything for himself and taken to being very demanding of everyone else instead. I can't remember the last time he made a cuppa - even though he is quite capable.

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 14:34

detective interesting. All I got was PCM and ibuprofen, and they gave it 4 hourly so quickly ran out, and I was left for many hours with nothing. The pain then built up and it was hard to get on top of again. It was offered, I took it. I will take a notebook this time and record when I have it. I will also ask for something stronger. Many thanks.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/10/2012 14:37

Don't you still get the morphine with the self administer button Grin after a c section?

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 14:42

Go for the oramorph, most places seem to be of the oramorph way of thinking now! In some places it is a controlled drug (it wasn't for us for a while, but then got put back in controlled cupboard...) so it may be a pain in the ass to dish out, but keep asking!

You may find that this time you feel much better afterwards, especially as you mentioned being in pain at the end of your last pregnancy? The healthier and fitter (!) you feel prior, the quicker it seems recovery is, if there are no added complications.

However, it is worth thinking about the fact that it is your third (is it?) section, so scar tissue/adhesions may contribute to increased discomfort in the recovery period.

And remember the peppermint water, it really does work wonders! In fact, I'd just take it as a precaution Grin

You know I said I was bored? Well, I just rearranged all the apps on my iPhone. I wasn't kidding, was I?!

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 14:42

I didn't. I wouldn't necessarily want morphine, but I felt what I had was pretty cruel.

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 14:44

PCA's are mainly used when a spinal hasn't been used (either GA or sometimes if epidural top up has been used). For ELLSCS under spinal, as far as my knowledge goes, the PCA's aren't used, as the spinal is considered adequate analgesia with oral on top!

But I've seen some GA's without PCA's. It depends on the anaethetist really!

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 14:47

thank you detective* I am a lot fitter and healthier this time, but will also be having my tubes snipped so am expecting more discomfort. Only my second section.

I have the peppermint in my bag already. The pain I had in my shoulders was the worst bit, and the midwives didn't seem to know what I was on about. It actually first hit while they were rummaging in theatre, and I thought I was having a heart attack. Not nice. At least I am prepared for that this time.

3st lighter this time too. Still only a couple of pounds on in total since pre-pregnancy, and my arse is looking almost scrawny Grin

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 15:01

You're welcome! You will be more uncomfortable from the TL (sorry!) most likely. You will be going for pre-op a few days before yes? Ask them what the analgesia regime is. if they don't know, ask them to find out. They only need to ring the ward and ask! In fact, you could ring the ward yourself now, if I answered the phone I'd tell you as I have above! It might put your mind at ease!

We get all kinds of calls on the ward, so one asking about analgesia would be a really easy one to deal with ;)

God, can't believe they didn't know about trapped wind, and deferred pain. Sheesh. It's so common, and yes, it feels like a bloody heart attack!

I am dying to know what you and me weigh a few weeks after birth! It should be interesting. I will cry if I still weigh exactly what I do now! My weight isn't even fluctuating as you would normally get - it shows the same bloody reading every time! It did go up by 1.5kg once, but when I weighed myself 2 weeks later, it had dropped back to the usual reading! I have even gone on different scales, just to check! No one believes me, I have taken to taking pictures of the scales!

I am aware I sound obsessive, but I am not! I just made a decision to observe my weight, as last time I didn't, and ended up in not a good way after! I haven't dieted, or changed my diet, other than in those first weeks of the sodding hyperemesis. And possibly less no McDonalds breakfasts. Other than that, no changes! I figured 1.5 stone would be appropriate weight gain for my pre-pg weight, but seems my body disagrees! My booking BMI was 36, but it is now 34.

I did get myself down to a good weight 2 years ago, but then DP moved in, and well, it all fell apart! I think I got my BMI down to 27 at the time.

Ah well....

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 15:02

Maybe you could get some of those butt boosting knickers for your scrawny arse VQ?!

applepieinthesky · 09/10/2012 15:05

I never drink coffee at work but I'm struggling to stay awake Sad Hurry up Friday please!

StuntNun · 09/10/2012 15:08

Waiting I squeezed my nipples yesterday to see if any colostrum came out but all I got were sore nips!

Detective when I had my section with DS1 all they would give me afterwards was oral paracetamol tablets because I have asthma. It was very ouchy.

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/10/2012 15:23

shelley I'm getting watery discharge alllll the time too, but it's been worse all through this preg so I've just got used to it.

Just got home from dh's birthday lunch, we had two courses and now I'm V full just going to plop on the sofa and not move Grin

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 15:31

I am considering ordering a pizza.

I have told myself off. I am not going to order a pizza to be delivered, just for me, at 4pm. No. No. Definitely not. Would this be reasonable?!

YellowWellies · 09/10/2012 15:42

I've just made chicken and sweetcorn cannelloni and popped it in the oven. Essentially it's mostly saturated fat by virtue of the amount of cheese I've added. Whoops. Can't wait. Lunch was a tub of mango and a bowl of ice cream. Am such a slattern. Detective if I could get takeout pizza here, I would...

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 15:42

detective I have a history of eating disorders, anorexia with bulimic tendencies, and it was DH who cured me. I had knackered my metabolism, so am resigned to being the chubbier side of normal. My BMI was 34 and still is 34 now, so I am happy with that. I know I am likely to gain while feeding, but also know that will go once I stop feeding. Thank you for the advice re analgesia. I will discuss it with the anaesthetist when I go in for the pre-op check, and make sure I see the chart!

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 15:43

YW that sounds yummy!

detective order the pizza.

horseylady · 09/10/2012 15:50

Defo yummy mummy in terms of clothes etc!!!

I just want to be back in my size 10 jeans, nice tops and coats and not hiding the bloody football up my top. oh and have more clothing choice than a couple of pairs or trousers and 7 t shirts!!! I have two long sleeved tops and one cardigan which makes me look awful!!

This has better occur before Xmas!!!!! I'm hoping that post baby I won't care!! But I was horrified when my friend told me shed not brushed her teeth by 4pm....how???!!!!

Interestingly

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 15:50

I'm just a yo-yoer. I was never fat as a child/teen, but as soon as I'd had DS, I just couldn't lose the weight, I've never got to less than a stone above my weight prior to having him. And I think that was for about a week.

Typical for me is 11.5-12 stone. Am almost 2 stone heavier than that now. I'm happy at 11.5 stone, so that is my aim.

I'm glad your DH cured you Grin. Seems men have their uses after all ;)

YW I have now found some food oven chips in the freezer, which I am currently cooking. I don't know why I didn't think to look there! Fridge, and cupboards are near empty! I am going to compromise, and make DP very happy tonight (apart from the fact he will come home to find me in the position he left me in, in the pj's he also left me in this morning) by agreeing to get Dominoes pizza, and get Rock of Ages, which we have been waiting for to come out on DVD! I loved it - we both did! He will be pleased! I haven't told him the above plan yet, but I bet he will end up buying beers, and will be a slobbering drunk by the end of the evening. Fine by me, coz i'll leave him on the sofa Grin.

I did let him back in bed last night, but he was removed for snoring when I had the usual early morning wake up call. I think I prefer the bed alone!

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 15:52

I want to know what is interesting Horsey!

BTW, I can definitely see how brushing ones teeth falls by the wayside after birth... trust me!

horseylady · 09/10/2012 15:58

Oh the interesting line was supposed to be deleted but I couldn't see it on my phone.

As I said I'm sure post birth I'll not actually give a shit!! Just now I'm fed up of my limited range of clothes. ESP after getting dressed up Friday lol

Titsalinabumsquash · 09/10/2012 16:03

TMI ALERT

I have just discovered a little lump of bloody jelly in my undies ....

I'm aware that makes me sound like someone who goes exploring my own pants.. I don't I promise! I'm waiting for the midwife to give me a call just to see what she says, I have lost what I thought was plug before but she said not a sign of imminent labour unless it's blood streaked.
