Ooh Shelly does that watery stuff mean birth is imminent generally - or just for you?! I've been getting plenty of that, hope it means the end is in sight!
I'm 36 weeks tomorrow, but I'm not allowed to have this baby before next Wednesday as I have to go 300 miles for a very important family thing thing before then!!

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 12:50

I can not believe that in my entire house there is 1, yes, just 1 paracetomol tablet Hmm

I've taken it, and thank god, its working Grin clearly my pain wasn't that bad, or 1 paracetomol wouldn't have cut the mustard!

I do have PR paracetomol, but I'd rather have shut up and put up than used that! Besides, its for early labour! (I love it for early labour, use it a lot on labour ward, women go home in early labour, and come back in established labour, often fully dilated. I think this needs to be researched more widely, because it works very well!) One of our senior midwives swears by it. And besides, we can administer it with out a doctor to prescribe. So we can get pain relief in quickly!

I do however have all kinds of other analgesia in this house, all prescribed for me, and not taken! I have, Ibuprofen, Co-codomol (30/500 and 8/500!), Co-drydramol, Codeine, and Volterol (oral and PR!). Jeez. Hmm All of them are in date! Most were prescribed for post op pain, but the PR diclofenic is from when I had toothache Grin but I tell you what, it worked a treat when I was desperate and hitting my own head in pain!

I sense a theme today, drugs. I have now found something else I can do today. Go and collect my prescription for syntocinon (for 3rd stage of labour if I chose active management, or it is needed at the time) and organise a prescription for vitamin K orally, again, if I choose to give it.

Peaky It is in my groin, as opposed to pelvic! You know that kind of pain you get when you have been on a bike...? No, me neither, but you know what I mean! It is either side of my lady bits Blush

StuntNun · 09/10/2012 12:51

Can I be a baby and take paracetamol before I get my vaccinations on Friday? Does that really work?

Izzy sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I hope things get a bit easier for you.

I also had a brief moment of insanity as I started inspecting cupboards for crap to be removed (there is no crap to be removed - anal about clutter at the best of times!) when I thought what on earth am I going to do when I'm off work next week! For possibly 5 weeks before I have the baby!

I did, very briefly, consider emailing my manager and asking if there were any shifts needing covering for next week. I thought of maybe doing 2 days, or 2 nights.

Then I came to my senses! I don't need the money that bad!!!

I think i'll just have to come up with other solutions!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/10/2012 13:01

I have a load of ironing here detective if you like? Is this thread going to start moving quicker as more people finish work and get bored waiting?

Brownies done.

I took two paracetemol last night a actually for the BHs I couldn't cope with another night like Sunday.

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:02

I wonder if emla cream would help with the vaccinations? I dunno.

I have googled, and found this www.medicines.org.uk/EMC/medicine/171/SPC/EMLA+Cream+5/

Basically says you can use it prior to vaccine, but not all vaccines. However the below bit I've c&p'd mentions pertussis which is the WC vaccine. It also talks about use in pregnancy in the information.

"Vaccination
Two randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in infants and neonates looked at anaesthetic efficacy of EMLA Cream in vaccinations and the effect on the immunogenicity of live vaccines.
The first study used EMLA Cream prior to subcutaneous measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, in patients aged 12-15 months, where 1g of cream was applied for 60-180 minutes. EMLA significantly reduced vaccination pain versus placebo, demonstrated by difference between the pre- and post-vaccination total score on the Modified Behavioural Pain Scale (MBPS - includes measurement of facial expression, cry and body movement). No difference versus placebo was seen with the separate assessment of proportion of patients that cry and duration of cry.
The second used EMLA Cream prior to intramuscular diptheria-pertussis-tetanus-inactivated poliovirus-Haemophilus influenzae b or Hepatitis B vaccines in patients aged 0-6 months, where 1 or 2g of cream was applied to patients aged 0-4 and 6 months respectively, for 60-180 minutes. EMLA significantly reduced vaccination pain versus placebo, demonstrated as above, for the 6 month-old group, however in the 0-4 month old group there was high variation in treatment response. In the 2 and 4 month-old groups, EMLA gave reduced pain versus placebo, however statistical significance was not shown (p=0.120 and 0.225 respectively).
Within both studies, the use of EMLA did not affect mean antibody titres, rate of seroconversion, or the proportion of patients achieving protective or positive antibody titres post immunization, as compared to placebo treated patients."

Or you could just take paracetomol Grin

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:03

I'm not that bored yet Sophia although try me again tomorrow ;)

WaitingForMe · 09/10/2012 13:06

Congratulations Donna

I seem to be a rare one in the leaning towards the yummy mummy camp. I asked for a new winter coat for my Birthday and have some very stylish flat boots. I recently placed a huge order at La Redoute and have lots of breastfeeding friendly tops. All in lovely autumnal shades. I'm planning to come back from hospital in my tracksuit bottoms but have some lovely soft trousers to change into for receiving visitors.

Today I bought some more seating for the living room and stocked up on fancy biscuits. Once we head into December visitors will get warm mince pies that have been frozen uncooked and just need 20 mins in the oven. I've done 5 of the 6 dishes for the freezer (8 portions of each) and almost everything that can be made and frozen in advance for Christmas. 80% of Christmas presents are bought and wrapped and all cards written and addressed and just need signing.

My OCD has been getting pretty bad and all this helps.

I'm loving yours posts Detective Grin

Ooh and yesterday I squeezed my nipple (as you do) and some colostrum came out. I'm very excited by this as I've been feeling quite left out!

blonderthanred · 09/10/2012 13:07

What is PR Paracetamol?

MissMummy1 · 09/10/2012 13:08

Detective I also had hula hoops for breakfast today Grin

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:10

Up the bum paracetomol Grin

P er R ectum

Sorry for anyone having lunch right now!

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:13

Seems I am in good company MM. Which flavour though... both salt and vinegar for me! Mmmm :)

Glad to entertain Waiting Grin it's only going to get worse. Until I've had the baby. Then I won't be bored! I think?!

And I thought I was fairly organised... I have christmas cards. I have not written them. I may consider this... thanks for the idea!

MissMummy1 · 09/10/2012 13:14

Waiting I think I'm also more in the yummy mummy camp Blush. I'm not quite as organised as you (yet!) but I have drawn and laminated a 'map' of each kitchen cupboard and stuck it on the inside of the doors so DH has no excuse not to put things back in the right place. Blush Yep, it's a wonder I haven't been mentally assessed yet!!

I'm well prepared for the fact my house won't always be immaculate post baby and somedays brushing my hair will be the grand total of my beauty regime, but the sort of person control freak I am, I can't cope with things not being organised or done my way!!

MissMummy1 · 09/10/2012 13:16

I just had plain ones detective - DH bought the meat variety pack despite me telling him I was craving salt and vinegar hula hoops!! Ho hum, I have the car today so might pop into tesco on my way home for some :-)

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:20

MM Yep to those things! I got irritated at DP because he polished all the living/dining room, and remembered to polish the ornaments/picture frames like I instructed but then didn't put them back in exactly the right places. It was like walking in to a house of horrors for me. Ornaments go back correctly grrrr! I am considering drawing around the outline of them. Or gluing them. But then if I do that, I can't change them around when I fancy....

I have very organised drawers Grin and that's the way I like it!

I am however learning a new level of patience/tolerance, as normally I'd of cried in a hormonal meltdown at things not being put back. Instead, I gave DP a 'look' and huffed around the room moving them. DP just looked bemused! I think we can both cope with 'looks'. Says more than words ;)

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:21

I have 4 more bags MM....... Grin I think Tesco may be a little closer for you though!

MissMummy1 · 09/10/2012 13:23

I cried because he put a cream plate back in amongst the white ones. In fairness, it was a build up of a hundred things (sheer exhaustion, crappy day at work, irrational hormones etc) but the plate in the wrong place tipped me over. He just giggled Angry....

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:27

I just giggled too Grin

Because I'd be exactly the same! I'm way too OCD with certain stuff!

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:29

I think the dog has finally learned to stop malting. Either that or there is an invisible hoover following her around.

She's a lab. Labs malt. Like crazy. She normally does. Perhaps she is getting her winter coat ready to malt it all off in January grrrrr.

Titsalinabumsquash · 09/10/2012 13:29

izzy I hope you get some relief, I wept like a big child yesterday at the midwife, I'm not on any pain relief at all because I'm allergic to anything codine based, I'm in agony all the bloody time. I have stocks of Oramorph that I was given when I was in pain and going through a lot of surgery and endometriosis last year but its not been mentioned to use during this time, I'm hoping the consultant takes putty on me on Friday and can suggest something.
I too am in the position of not being able to care for myself or my children at the moment because my mobility is nil. I'd happily take an early induction.

My anxiety and OCD has been on a boost this past week, I've usually got it very well under control but its been rising again. Luckily I did all the decluttering before I became this bad with the pain so it's all done.
All my christmas shopping is being done online so coming through in bits and pieces.

Today my vagine feels like its about to drop out. Confused

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:32

I just saw our thread in the most active list over >>>> there!

I think it might be my fault Grin and MM too....!

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 13:33

MM is that not grounds for divorce? Cream plate with white ones? Then again , not long and you will have Peppa pig or spiderman ones or similar.

izzy DHC, DF118s, 'diffs' as my clients call them are actually pretty good pain killers. Hope they work for you. If not they have good resale value on the street.

Been food shopping this morning, and now washing nappies waiting for my haggis in batter to heat up.

I am with detective on the PR front. Everything is better taken up the arse, heroin included (but take the needle off first).

MissMummy1 · 09/10/2012 13:34

Oops... Grin

YellowWellies · 09/10/2012 13:35

MM1 I've made a map of the baby clothes' drawers for DH should I end up being incapacitated / out of action / can't be arsed and he needs to fend for himself and junior. He's really chuffed as he's anally retentive and can now put things 'in their right place' it also means I don't confuse the clothing sizes.

Am amused at the idea of preparing food for guests Waiting I'm afraid our guests are all trained to arrive with food and do some washing up before they leave having all had kids themselves. Having seen friends with their first babies, I know that the idea of 'entertaining' guests will be a mythical occurance in our house. I figure I'll be grazing on whatever I can eat with one hand. Especially if Junior gets colic or struggles to feed. I think we've realistically established that it'll be fish fingers and beans for Christmas dinner this year as it'll just be me, DH and junior. Unless pals bring us some good food over (have planted the seed with a childless foody friend of mine - bad YW).

Great minds think alike though - I have ordered some nice roomy clothes from La Redoute too (I love their discount codes and won't order until they send me 50% off which they seem to do monthly at the moment!) and a breast feeding dress from Frugi so am not entirely slummy. I doubt I'll be out of my dozens of pairs of maternity PJs (thanks Ebay) until January though..... which should be nice for the removal men Grin

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 13:46

I've just stocked up on pj's and stretchy vest tops. This will be my attire forever more until I my regular clothes don't make me look like I'm still pregnant.

I've still not needed maternity stuff, I have bought a few bits though. 2 dresses, 1 pair of leggings, 1 pack of vest tops, and 1 pack of vest tops with clips for feeding. I didn't need any of these though, except for the leggings, although I did wear my regular leggings yesterday as maternity ones were in the wash. But maternity ones definitely comfier. I didn't think the regular leggings would go on at all - without considerable pain anyway, but they did.

I have a feeling it will be aftewards that I will need new clothes. Just like last time. I didn't need mat clothes first time round when I was a skinny minnie size 10 :( But I did need size 14's afterwards, and have never really got below that! (I have squeezed in to 12's, once, not for long)...

Good job it is my birthday in just over 3 weeks. I shall be putting away money thanks to my mum, and my dad for a good shopping spree once my uterus has shrunk, and I know what fat flab I am left with. I think I will invest in a couple of wrap dresses, but won't get them til afterwards. Seen a few on eBay that I may purchase.

Talking of birthdays, as I will be 40+1 (probably!) I have not made any plans. But I need some ideas. I think I might have a google. I've asked DP for a new fancy pants camera, for shots of bambino. He is delighted, as normally I ask for a surprise, and he gets very agitated as he hates shopping and has no idea what to get! I guess we could go out somewhere really pretty and take pictures?!
