I'll second Pass - wind does strange things to a class of children!

Waiting to be honest I did go to sleep in the afternoon so I had the energy to go out and we came home about midnight but was lovely to feel normal for a bit :)

I'm having flu and wc tomorrow - my nurse friend said I'd be mad not to! Think we will all wonder if we did the right thing whatever we choose but if LO caught it I would never forgive myself. Also as I work in a school I'm around hundreds of children and you never know which of them or their siblings might have it.

Apple I'm hoping for a couple of weeks at home too - on time would be nice but don't want to be hanging around too long!

Fatima you are being very sensible and not at all lazy - I would definately put off the cleaning for as long as possible Grin

StuntNun · 08/10/2012 12:10

Shelly I have a photo of DS1 in a Barbie car on a fairground ride which I'm saving for his wedding day!

MM what did the NCT lady mean about cannot cope with the antibodies? I don't understand that phrase.

nervous I am very excited for you having your new changing bag, and think missmummy should get one too! I have the one with blue butterflies and I love it. It's all packed with baby's things for hospital Smile

FatimaLovesBread · 08/10/2012 12:20

I'm a Biologist!
I'm planning on doing a bit of reading about WC later so will look in to what the NCT lady could have meant.

Also agree that the line of it not being tested on pregnant women is a pretty pointless statement. Nothing tends to be tested on pregnant women so most medicines etc just say do not use. When I was struggling with hayfever I went to the doctors. She prescribed some nasal spray as that was deemed "safe". However, the majority of medicines prescribed in pregnancy are don't on a cost-benefit analysis.
She said if I wanted antihistamines then I could take piriton. The reason she picked that and not another first generation antihistamine is that piriton has been around a lot longer and so there's been a lot more pregnant people use it over the years. Not necessarily that it was safe and others weren't.
Same with gaviscon.
Sorry i'm just rambling there.

What i'm trying to say is that if something says "not for use when pregnant". It's not that it's necessarily harrful, but just that there isn't evidence to say it's ok because pregnant women can't be studied

CandyPop · 08/10/2012 12:30

Another thing is, dh is more nervous about it cause my mil said he had a really bad reaction from the wc vaccine as a child. Fever etc from if. With bubba with the same gene, will she have a reaction whilst in tummy ?!

We're going to consult a specialist with our list of concerns. I'm still inclined to have it but we both need to agree ! Ahhhh why us?! Why now? Don't we have a lot to deal with already ??! Like my realisation after the nct class that we actually have to give birth to a real baby very soon???!!! Grin

GTbaby · 08/10/2012 12:36

Grrr. Check up at antenatal day suit informed us that bile acid tests had not been done. So annoying. Goin to see registra at 1.30. Mw thinks they will b precautions n induce as Likely they can not confirm OC till nxt week. As tests take a while n cud come bk negative for a few weeks even if I have it. So confusing.

But starting to panic now about getting everything ready ( she says while watching loose women) n I haven't bought my maternity bras yet. The one thing I can't just send DH off for. But DH is being over protective n im not aloud to drive or go out along. So makes it hard to go out n buy some. Been in a strop with him about this, but I know he is very adamant about this so no point in arguing.

FatimaLovesBread · 08/10/2012 12:42

I wouldn't have thought the bubba would react the same, as it will be you having it and your immune system starting the reaction process. The bubba will just receive the antibodies you produce in response to the vaccine. So it won't be the same as the baby receiving it directly.
Also, even if your husbands reaction to his vaccination was passed on genetically, it doesn't mean you baby will have inherited it. Genetics and inheritance is a very complicated and not fully understood subject so i wouldn't assume/worry that anything your DH had your DC will also have Smile

I agree it would be worth you discussing your concerns though to help you feel better

Bluetinkerbell · 08/10/2012 12:44

Had my midwife appointment this morning, all was fine, she'll be coming to our house in 2 weeks to go through home birth stuff :)
I just need a go ahead from the consultant on Thursday.
I squeezed in the flu jab clinic after my appointment and the nurse giving me the jab said they would only be contacting pregnant ladies in our area in a few weeks time for the whooping cough vaccine Angry I'm 34 weeks and I want it now, not in a few weeks! They want to get all the flu jabs out of the way first. It's ridiculous! Not very pleased with the surgery!
Just not going to get in a strop about it, as will see consultant on Thursday and I'm sure that the ante-natal clinic will have vaccines ready and available.

FatimaLovesBread · 08/10/2012 12:47

i'd be getting cross GT Did they say why the bile tests hadn't been done when they're the best thing to show OC?
I'd also be reluctant at them pushing for induction without having done the tests in the first place. I'm no expert on OC though, Detective seems to know about testing etc.

Do you have any shopping centres near by where you could go in the evening with DH for nursing bras? Or a credit card so you could order online in 15 different sizes Grin

YellowWellies · 08/10/2012 12:51

I would say a sample size of 10 baby's is pretty small (thankfully it's only a small sample size, as we don't want any more to die!).

Am guessing that with the links to poverty and high population density associated with WC it might be that poor migrant communities in London are heavily represented in terms of deaths and that many such Mums might well come from areas where there is no vaccination programme :( that doesn't mean that it can't affect the babies of Mums who have been jagged though. The sample size is just not statistically significant enough for us to make that call, it could be pure coincidence favoured by environmental factors. I could be smug about living somewhere with low population density, but m'eh I use public transport - so even here can't assume 'we're out of reach' as it were.

I've also read however that even the mother having had WC (the illness itself) is no guarantee of immunity - so if that doesn't protect you - I'll not be trusting a jab I had over 30 years ago to do the job. I know that my travel jags like yellow fever etc have to be redone every 3-5 years.

In some ways I'm quite glad I didn't have time to do my own research and go through the awful do I / don't I indecision. We had limited time and sensible family scientists were thankfully able to advise me in a much shorter time, and a much less dangerous (for my blood pressure) way than me asking Mr Google...

YellowWellies · 08/10/2012 12:55

Candy I'd be more worried about my newborn having a fever once they're out than when they are safely in utero protected to some degree by the placenta. Especially as they will already be battling with the other germs of the big bad world and struggle to regulate their own temperature anyway.

CandyPop · 08/10/2012 13:09

It's the nct teacher that planted the seed . I was ready to go and have it this morning before that!

Ok not gonna take up this thread with more wc stuff . I should have gone to the wc thread Blush sorry !!

On a lighter note... Isn't the female body amazing ?! How we can just grow a baby and the body is well designed to give birth. The lady described our birthing canal like a helter skelter. Turning the baby once the baby head comes out so that the shoulders can come out at the right angle! Amazing !! I also like the idea how our uterus is like a self cleaning oven. Once baby is out, it pushes all the stuff we don't need out and then shrinks back to normal. Wish my oven at home is a self cleaning one !!

Not trying to start another debate .... But I've always assumed that being cut is better than tearing. But the nct lady was saying if its a little tear, tear is better than cut?! Don't know if I trust her anymore! Any views on this??!!

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 13:14

candy I would love to talk to the NCT woman! I really would, and would actually urge you to contact the regional boss to report concerns. Her advice could lead to the death of a child. Seriously. Do not worry about chatting about it here. That is what we are here for, but the other threads are worth a read as there are some links there for both sides of the 'argument'.

Cut or tear? A cut is controlled. A tear could be little, and would heal easier, it could also rip right through to include your anus. I know which I would prefer!

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 13:15

As to trusting her, do so, but only in areas she is qualified!!!

NervousAt20 · 08/10/2012 13:18

Thank you littlelolly I've saw the blue one and its very nice

YellowWellies · 08/10/2012 13:19

Candy I've heard that a tear can be better than a cut for healing, and often they cut as a precaution to stop you tearing, when you might not have torn anyway. I think they have to cut for ventouse and some forceps to get them into the opening.

As for the WC jag, my last comment, which I would have given to your NCT lady is - would she advise her ladies to take paracetomol, Gaviscon or Rennie during pregnancy? - as neither of them has been tested on pregnant ladies and their unborn babies either. Go and get it checked out as you say, it sounds like the best bet for putting your mind at rest.

GT gosh, it sounds like it might be you next my lovely if they are talking about induction.

Am a bit relieved, have just found out that MA entitlement is based on when the baby is due - not when the baby turns up. So if the little tinker does turn up early - so long as I manage to do 2-3 hours work a week (something light and able to be fit around them, like proof reading) to keep my NI stamp up, we should be ok...

NervousAt20 · 08/10/2012 13:21

RE WC vaccine, I haven't looked into it too much, when we spoke to the MW she said that its best for baby for me to have it now and will offer some protection, I figured it has to be safe enough otherwise they wouldn't be giving it to every pregnant women around so it's something that me and DP feel is right for us. I completely understand why some people are cautious though its a personal decision for everyone

Angry damn auto correct on this phone!!!!!! It has a mind of its bloody own

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 13:22

There are two October threads which I find strange.

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 13:25

That is good news YW. The little scamp will be late now.

MissMummy1 · 08/10/2012 13:29

YW why didn't they tell either of us this 10 weeks ago when I first started stressing?!?

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/10/2012 13:29

I have no experience of a cut but I do of a 4th degree tear - I can confirm that it's literally the least fun thing to have ever Grin

Off to the midwife after all in a hour, I need to ask about my maternity nhs exemption certificate, I've sent off the forms twice now and not got anything back. Grr.

Peaky1 · 08/10/2012 13:30

Think I've got about 100 messages to catch up on just from last night! Popping out to get measured up for nursing bras at my nearest Debenhams then I'll get on it.

I was a bit disappointed with my reply from the Nappy Lady as I sent off the advice questionnaire last week. The only reason why I'm disappointed is because she's suggested the Teddy nappy system that only has 2 reviews on Mumsnet; one being good and one being bad! It's made me realise that maybe I wanted to follow the crowds and try what everyone else seems to love but buy a few from ebay first to see how I get on. Trouble is you need a lot of kit to go with it all anyway don't you?

Brockle · 08/10/2012 13:31

Have flu jab and WC jab this afternoon. I also have consultant appointment on wed and MW on thursday. Can they do both jabs in one arm so that I have one arm for BP measuring when I have my appointments? Could imagine a BP check being quite painful with an injected arm or am I being a big wuss?

Really lazy today but after the flurry of newborns I am a bit anxious about getting the crib out of the loft and washing the bedding so that if anything happens DS3 has somewhere to sleep. Job for DH I think Smile Of course we all know that it is a total waste of time as I will be overdue.

Hope you get some clarity today GT. It is quite sweet that your DH has grounded you bu I would be frustrated too.

Bimbledorf · 08/10/2012 13:34

GTbaby that's shocking! I went in on the Friday evening and they turned round liver function and bile acid tests by the Sat morn when they told me to come in and get started on the URSO... The urso seems to be working, not to mega relieve the itching (been on it 2 weeks now) but my liver function tests are still high but haven't gone up any further which I'm told they likely would if I wasn't on it. At the very least if they suspect it, they should get you started on that surely?! Have they prescribed you aqueous cream with menthol? It helps a little - in fact the lid of the pot is even more relieving - a fantastic scratching tool! I feel your pain it is so awful :( hope they flipping well sort it out soon!

Congratulations Evil and TheChick how exciting and fab that you are home already Evil.

Regards cuts Blush I had an episiotomy with baby no1 and it was stitched up all funny I assume as I was never right till I had a 2nd degree tear with number 2 - sorted it right out!! So IME I would say tear, but to be fair it could be something to do with the stitching skills of the midwife??! The crowning however, was way less painful with number one though as I was numbed for the cut so never felt the ring of fire like I did with number 2 Shock

LittleLolly · 08/10/2012 13:35

Arghhhhhh!!

Just been to midwife and my blood pressure has shot up Sad it's 130/90 when it's usually 90-100/60. And I have protein in my urine. So I have got to go to antenatal day unit for pre-eclampsia screening. I'm absolutely gutted, if it stays this way, or I have other signs of PE, then my birth centre water birth plans are out of the window. I'm trying to tell myself that all that matters is baby being safe, and it doesn't matter where or how I give birth as long as he is ok, and I am.

So DH is on his way home and then we are off to antenatal unit. Send me lots of positive thoughts ladies!!
