I found it hard the v first time but once he got the latch he was pretty sussed after that. It did hurt for the first week or so but persevere it'll be worth it!

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 07/10/2012 15:14

Fab news evil hope you get home soon

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/10/2012 15:19

evil it is really hard but if it's want you want to do then keep at it, it will take awhile but should get better with a bit of perseverance. I'm sure you are doing a great job so far.

All of your itching sounds horrendous.

We are now having a family veg out with the grand prix.

pikz · 07/10/2012 15:22

Congrats Evil! Fantastic news! Welcome Nicholas.

I have such a sore throat and a cold brewing, damn not being able to take anything :(

MissMummy1 · 07/10/2012 15:24

LOVE the name Evil - adorable for a littley but a solid, strong name when he grows up too. Fab choice. No idea re feeding as this is my first too but fc it gets easier!

Stupid MissMummy1 stood on the scales today... I'm 32+3 and have put on 3.5stone already!!! Sad I've gone from underweight to normal on a standard BMI chart (so not too bad) but genuinely horrified by how heavy I am now, and how long I still have to go!! DH wasn't joking when he told me I was massive last night (he thought he was being sweet and showing me how much he loved my pregnant body - apparently. Needless to say he slept in the spare room that night!!)

ValiumQueen · 07/10/2012 15:32

evil both mine would fall asleep pretty much as soon as they started feeding. Find a tickly bit, and tickle it to keep him awake enough to feed but not so he is angry. With DD1 it was her foot, with DD2 a stroke of her cheek just under her ear would do the trick. Also it is good to be able to tell when they are feeding as opposed to just sucking. That is not properly evident until you milk has come in. Lovely name btw.

Brockle · 07/10/2012 15:34

Great name Evil. Perseverence is the name of the game with breastfeeding. It does hurt at first and you constantly worry if they are getting enough but after that first couple of weeks it gets massively easier. I doubted myself so many times with DS1 in the first three weeks but after that it got better and better. Sometimes I think breastfeeding classes and vids should be a bit more honest and tell it how it is.

Whilst feeding if he starts to drop off, take his feet out of his baby gro or take his socks off and tickle his feet. Like everyone has said he will start to wake more in the next couple of days.

ValiumQueen · 07/10/2012 15:34

MM as you say you were underweight to start with. This is natures way. It will go.

ValiumQueen · 07/10/2012 15:35

X-post brockle clearly sound advice to tickle.

kirrinIsland · 07/10/2012 15:50

Gorgeous name evil :)
I think the Bf videos make it look so easy so they don't put people off even trying! Remember, his tummy is the size of a marble right now, so he doesn't need much. Stick with it - it will just fall into place in the next few days.

MM I am steering well clear of the scales. DP also likes to point out how big I am - I have pointed out that being pregnant does not mean I don't mind being told I'm fat ok, not quite how he phrases it but he doesn't seem to understand!

kirrinIsland · 07/10/2012 15:51

Oh, and along with the tickling advice, I was also told to make sure they're not too snuggly and warm when feeding so they are less likely to drop off to sleep.

Brockle · 07/10/2012 16:06

Oh yes crossed posts but tickling is obviously the way to go Smile I used to feed mine in their vests so they were a little cooler. Especially at night so they got a good feed instead of dribs and drabs every thirty minutes!

Its a hard line to draw with breastfeeding advice. It needs to be positive enough not to put people off but honest enough so people don't think they are the only ons struggling afterwards.

I too am staying clear of the scales.

blonderthanred · 07/10/2012 16:09

Oh great name Evil - same as my DBro and he is very cool and lovely!

Good luck with the breastfeeding - my friend recommended Nelson's Burns Cream if you get sore. Is it too soon to ask how the induction went - or didn't you need it in the end?

ShellyBobbs · 07/10/2012 16:16

I've been scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees this morning. I have a mop Confused

Evil Keep at it, the first few days can be the hardest. Fingers crossed you can come home today :)

ValiumQueen · 07/10/2012 16:22

You will be paying for that tomorrow shelley. Well, I have had a fairly good day today. Did a bit of shopping and bought a blue bobble blanket for baby. The girls had pink ones. £9 from Matalan. Mainly just looking at stuff, but nice to be out. Beautiful day in central Scotland. DH put the cot up this morning, so feeling a bit more real. Have washed and put cover on Moses basket after the girls spent ages playing in it. Beef stroganoff for tea. Yum.

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/10/2012 16:46

Wow some great bargains at the NCT sale, I got ds a Ralph Lauren jumper (barely if ever worn) for a POUND! We looked up to buy it new and it's about £60!!
Loads of bodysuits and sleepsuits, 0-3 month coat and bits and bobs for ds. Only spent £18 in total, really wish they had more than just two a year!

WaitingForMe · 07/10/2012 16:47

Congratulations Evil. I love the name Nicholas!

I had my bump shots yesterday which I'm glad about as in the last few days I've wondered if baby is going to be early. I'm only 34+3 but getting BHs so intense I've been bent over the birthing ball with DH holding my hands and doing my hypnobirthing exercises. He's now preparing his labour bag as his ex had nothing like this until she was in labour.

Or I could have seven weeks of this fun Confused

TheDetective · 07/10/2012 16:59

Lovely name Evil I hope you are feeling well, and get home today! But if you are having a hard time with feeding, why not stay for another night for help? As rubbish as it is on the ward, at least there is advice at hand??!

What is the feeding pattern like? Are you having to hand express, or is he latching on for feeds? It can be difficult to advise when not knowing what the issues are Grin

I've just done my last day shift, just my 4 nights at the end of next week, and I AM DONE!! And not a moment too soon! Work colleagues think I'm crazy for still being in!

Everyone is hassling me though, telling me to just come in and have the baby where I work. Not ever gonna happen. I'd be mortified to start....! And just NO! I don't think they get it really, though :(

I got in from work today, and ran a bath with badass badedas bubble bath, with the hypnobirthing cd on, and decided to have a pratice of the techniques while in water. DP chose that exact time to start hoovering the entire house.... I am trying to be grateful, really I am! But.... narghhhhhh!!!

Of course the baby was startled at the sound of the hoover, and started moving like crazy. Not the most enjoyable bath ever! This baby makes me laugh, it has a moro reflex like no other! Startles at the hairdryer, hoover, sudden loud music... bit like my dog really! Will be funny to see if it is still the same when he is born!

I'm still in the 4am club :( One of the women today suggested a lavender vaporizer? Am going to google! She said it worked well for her!

TheDetective · 07/10/2012 16:59

I'm getting some cracking BH's too Waiting!

TheDetective · 07/10/2012 17:19

I've seen it all now!!

Pre-packed maternity bags on eBay Hmm Confused

Titsalinabumsquash · 07/10/2012 17:22

I've been having some wicked BH for a few weeks now, my baby can't seem to make his mind up, I spent 2-3 days with him so low I thought he was about to emerge, now he is right up as high as can be again. Hey ho midwife tomorrow, will be interesting to see just what position he's in and how engaged/free he is. Smile

TheDetective · 07/10/2012 17:24

And Shelly I've been feeling like he is gonna come out my bum for a looooooooooooong time! He kicks me right in the bum frequently :(

Pffft.

YellowWellies · 07/10/2012 17:26

Woo hoo am 34 weeks tomorrow and man for the first time, am really feeling it. Collapsed today into bed after wandering round the supermarket. DH has made me pancakes for breakfast, cleaned the house top to bottom, done three loads of washing and done all the sous-chefery for tea. He is having a well deserved rest shooting zombies. I'm just so bone tired and feel like a space cadet all of a sudden. DH asked me, a little concerned, whether it might be the start of anything serious - but I don't think so. Lots of BH here too but have had breath-takers since 28 weeks so I'm not taking it as a sign, we also have a very wriggly wee possum - they seem to be really 'activated' by bright sunshine bizarrely!

Titsalinabumsquash · 07/10/2012 17:37

Has anyone had their flu jab this year?
I had mine yesterday and the site of the injection is now bloomin sore, swollen and red ( about 10cm across ) and itches like a beast, is that normal? I never usually get a localised reaction at all and DS didn't get one. Hmm

ValiumQueen · 07/10/2012 17:40

YW 34 weeks was when it hit me too. Like a truck.

detective you are crazy. Most definately. No doubt at all.
