Started a new thread for all us April ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

bird I'm trying not to dwell on it. It's obviously a sad loss and I really feel for her but having the 12 week scan with a heartbeat means a massively decreased liklihood of an MMC. I just keep telling myself I saw a wriggly baby and there's no reason to assume we won't see our babies at the end of the process!

FlamingPanda do you know where he got it from? I fancy one myself!

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 21/10/2012 13:50

He got it from the Swedish equivalent of mothercare. It's like a full body length narrow beanbag. So when on my side with knee raised (sort of recovery position) the knee is held up and strain taken off the pelvis. It also helped as I flung my arm over it too, reducing the pressure on my now melon sized tender breasts.

Teapig · 21/10/2012 14:19

Flamin that sounds great. I'm going to seek one of those out.

Dandelion75 · 21/10/2012 14:27

I got a dream genii maternity pillow a couple of weeks ago after it was recommended on MN and its made a massive difference - cant imagine ever sleeping without it again! It supports your back too, and stops you rolling onto your back in the night. You can get them at Kiddicare here or in Mothercare and on-line too. Pricey but worth it IMO.

JessieEssex · 21/10/2012 14:29

I've got a Dream Genii pregnancy pillow from last time - it is amazing. It was about £40 but really really worth it.

essex so pleased to hear all is well - must have been terrifying. 17+0 today and I'm still looking for blood every time I wipe (tmi sorry) - I don't know if the fear will really go away until little one is here!

17+0 (had to say it again as I love the sound of it!)

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 21/10/2012 14:38

When did everyone start to be able to feel their bump above the pelvis? I'm 12 weeks gone now and can't feel anything yet. I'm still having massive problems believing I'm actually pregant. I think it'll sink in when I feel it or see it.

JessieEssex · 21/10/2012 14:48

flamin I can feel it now at 17 weeks and have probably been feeling it for 2/3 weeks. This is DC2 and things are definitely happening sooner than the first time!

usernamegoeshere · 21/10/2012 15:09

Flamin I'm 15 weeks & I can't feel any bump or anything. I've been having a feel around every morning before I get up especially (sad I know) but nothing so far.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 21/10/2012 15:36

Haha, I've been doing the same. We can be sad together.

aufaniae · 21/10/2012 16:09

Got a cold and with DS so haven't had time to catch up, but just popping my head round the door to say have you seen Mamas and Papas have a sale on their website?

Maternity clothing - got some bargains there, like long vests to cover your bump, reduced from £12 to £3 for example.

Everything else think some of the sections are offers rather than sales but maybe worth a look?

edinfirst · 21/10/2012 17:07

Thanks aufaniae just ordered a few wee bargains - fell for the old trick of thinking I'll take them back if they're no good, but that just means I've ended up ordering much more than I need.

Re pillows, ante-natal physio suggested to me that an old/feather pillow, pushed into a 'bow tie' shape, gives good support to the bump and stops you rolling onto your back. working for me so far and much cheaper than a special pregnancy pillow.

Re bumps, mine has just come up this week (just gone 15 weeks) - get a wee fright every time I see it in the mirror

magictorch · 21/10/2012 17:48

Thanks aufaniae - very timely. I had a fruitless trip to the shops today looking for maternity clothes since trousers are getting a bit snug now and bump has appeared in past couple of days. Was a large Westfield centre and went to Gap, New Look, Debenhams, H&M, M&S, Next, Dotty Ps and Top Shop and not one of them carries an in-store maternity range anymore. "You have to order online" they say. Was almost in tears , then remembered Mothercare and managed to get some stuff there. Nice lady even gave me a fiver off. I'll have to take it all up, as apparently you can't get short leg maternity stuff.

Then got home, ate lots of cake (baby wanted it) and ordered travel system that nice lady had shown me in Mothercare as it's on special offer but DH made me get it delivered to sister-in-law.

Sigh. What a day.

thanks aufaniae I'm def needing maternity clothes now so will have a 'look' at the bargains Smile. This is dc3 and bump appeared around mid week. When I'm led down its bout 2-3 fingers below my belly button. Showing a LOT earlier than previously, have a proper baby belly now Grin

birdbrain I was having a really tough time before the 12w scan, I was convinced I'd had a MMC, but as others have said after a successful 12w scan the odds are very much in our favours that we'll have a baby in April!
I'm trying to chill out about it now (I also had a wobble when I lost my symptoms, morning sickness etc) and will be starting a yoga and relaxation course because the midwife said that stress and worry are bad for baby.
Easier said than done though, ey?! We can hold each others hands!!

I felt very relieved after the scan and teapig I had my appointment last week but she just checked my blood pressure, urine sample and asked me about my different symptoms, I was so tired as I had gone straight from work that it was only when I got home I realised she hadn't listened to the heartbeat and now I want to go back and have another appointment just for that but I'm too embarrassed to call up (I'm quite shy...) I'm trying to reassure myself that everything is fine and that because my placenta is at the front I won't feel any movement yet for a while but doesn't mean anything is wrong. Gosh I didn't realise what a worrier I was till now Wink

magictorch I had the same problem after my 12 week scan I decided to treat myself to some maternity clothes as I couldn't get any of my zips done up and I decided to go to Westfield also as I figured the shops there are big branches so I could hopefully find some of the clothes I'd seen online to try on ( I hate buying before trying) only to be told by shop assistants "only the big branches have maternity clothes, try Oxford street or buy online" for anyone who lives in London surely you agree that Westfield are big branches?!?

Hi all, i am bleeding again and have been on and off since Friday not loads like last time but emergency unit was closed and gyne ward was rammo so no scan just sent home to watch and wait and phone midwife tomorrow, how very helpful! I just wondered if anyone knew anything about all this bleeding, what could it be? I wish I didn't just have to sit and ponder Sad

Sorry for me post and haven't caught up with everyone yet been busy couple of weeks!

EssexWelsh · 21/10/2012 23:08

choco well I have a better experience last night at EPAU but no explanation of why any bleeding, it is light but still there today. It is frustrating as it isn't normal but is not a major issue. What is causing it? Grrrr

Bambino29 · 21/10/2012 23:51

Choco/Essex - don't know how helpful this is but I had som bleeding/cramping on and off a few weeks ago (and was helpfully told by a midwife that I was "probably miscarrying"). Turns out I had a subchorionic bleed (haematoma just outside the sac but within the uterine cavity). Mine was small and three weeks later the bleed area had vanished on the scan. Very common apparently and usually no a problem.

Friends of mine have bled on and off throughout their entire pregnancies and have had very healthy babies.

I know this is easier said than done but try not to worry. Odds are in your favour.

angeltattoo · 22/10/2012 08:01

Choco/Essex, i've had some bleeding here too, I have a cervical ectropian/eroded cervix, which isn't harmful but causes bleeding, as a result of being on hormonal contraception for a long time.

Just another potential cause, it's so worrying, but I keep saying to myself, chances are we will be fine!

Morning ladies, essex how scary glad everything ok.

I fainted at work yesterday! So embarrassing a colleague was just sat talking to me while I was stood up, just went really warm and fuzzy he said you look really pale, and just as he did I hit the deck! He managed to catch me which makes it even more embarrassing, got nothing but teased all day about how I fell for X Blush

See the consultant tomorrow will mention it to her also about my back problem is still quite bad.

Giddypants · 22/10/2012 08:32

Sorry I posted having read pg 38 didn't realise there was a 39!
coco try not to worry, like others have said there are many reasons why bleeding happens, but I hope you can get in at your mw today for some reassurance.

itsaruddygame · 22/10/2012 10:27

Crikey - its hard to keep up the thread is so busy. So glad to see Mama's baby is hanging on in there!

I also had some spotting last week after 4 weeks with nothing. Was stressed about it but it has stopped now thankfully. I saw the midwife today and she has basically told me not to worry that it is normal for me (nothing on the 2 scans I have had to be concerned about) and that lots of women do bleed througout. Easier said than done not to worry when it is happening though! The midwife at the hospital and sonographer said it is most likely cervical erosion as it is quite small amounts of brown blood (sorry tmi!) though I do have a friend that had some quite heavy bleeds and all was still OK.

I persuaded the MW to listen for a heart beat as apparently they won't usually do it at 16 weeks as if they cant find it people panic. Luckily she did find it so I got to hear our baby's heartbeat. It was brilliant - so exciting. Grin

Hope all are feeling OK on this miserable Monday morning (well it is miserable here anyway!!).

choco - hope you manage to see mw and get some reassurance today. Must be v. Scary. essex - glad all is well xxx

Can't believe we've nearly filled another thread! I'm ok, just completely wiped out- so so tired and drained. I'm 16+1 and I thought I'd be feeling more energised by now.

I've read tht fatigue in 2nd trimester could be to do with low iron levels- I've had problems giving blood in the past because of low iron so maybe that's what it is. I've got some iron supplement, but am seeing mw for 16 wk app on weds and think ill try to hold off until I see her and get tested. At least if there is a problem with my iron, then it's on my records in case it's important further down the line, iykwim? I had flu jab on Saturday,it could be to do with that though? Either way I'm just good for nothing- I made DH breakfast and now am having to sit down for half an hour to recover!!

Grotty weather isn't helping! But atleast it's half term!!
Xx

chocoloco12 · 22/10/2012 11:32

essex I'm glad you had a better experience at EPAU and all
Is ok, I have an appointment there tomorrow so fingers crossed, only another day and night to worry! Couldnt get an appointment with MW so just phoned hospital and that was best they could do, not having pains just like a period but very clotty so still panicking!

angel and bambino thanks for the reassurance, hopefully there is a good explanation for it, just hard not to think of worse case scenario!

Oh giddy how embarrassing for you, hope you're ok now!!

flamming I've got one of those full length pillows and they are brill aren't they?had one I used when pregnant with DD1 and got dp
To dig it out again, had some lovely nights sleep!

As for the bump, belly is definitely growing but think
I just look fat as opposed to pregnant!! Oh well!! Have needed to dig out the maternity clothes already!

those of you with bleeding, I hope all is well, a friend had this off and on through her pregnancy and has a lovely little girl. Sometimes it just does happen but it scares the sh*t out of you.

I woke up in the middles of the night with an evil pain in my groin, left side. It kind of felt like cramp. DH wouldn't wake up, so went and called the NHS line who said if it continues go to A&E. But 15 minutes later it stopped, it still has a little ache now and then, like ovulation pain, tis very odd.

I also have a dream genii pillow, but i hate the bit that goes underneath to support your back, so have modified mine [removed that bit] so it's now just a long sausage pillow [which would have been much cheaper]. Have got it out and freshened it up, but haven't yet used it yet.

Fainting is just embarrasing, DH just doesn't get why I can't do the full shop any more. I keep fainting towards the end of the shop. I take snacks, but DD is whingeing and there is no where to sit to take a break so have to get on and try to finish. Usually I'm within sight of the tills and I just get that fuzzy feeling and BAM! I hurt my pinky last time and it was really sore.

We have crap maternity clothes supplies in our area too. MC and M&P are in Bristol [near Ikea] and are a good hour and a half away and I get miffed when I get there and they have sizes 10-14 only and nothing much bigger. Bath has just had a redevelopment of an old shopping centre which is much nicer. Not only do New Look stock the maternity range [albeit small selection] but H&M do too [upstairs in the new one] and it's got a good range. Yet the main [bigger] branches in Bristol do not stock maternity ranges.

Debenhams are brilliant for Bras. I went up from 34F to 34H in my first pregnancy, nursing bras were 34J . After BF settled to a 36GG, now up to 38H expecting them to get bigger by delivery. Just worry that as J is the biggest cupsize in the UK I may be squished into a poor fitting bra. Also try on a good range of bra's as even between brands the sizes vary quite a bit. I had a lovely Elomi Softwire bra [like underwire but very gentle on nursing boobies] hope I can get another one.

Watching Balamory while eating lunch with DD, foggy and miserable outside. Even the chickens don't want to leave their house. Ack that was more epic than I planned. 14+3.
