Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Woodelf · 05/05/2006 17:01

Thanks for the congrats Cori and Compo! Yep, it's to be my first and at the grand old age of 43 quite an adventure I'm sure. DH now v keen on coming up with shortlist of names, I like Oscar, Dillon and Alexander but not sure really - still in shock....

Normsnockers · 05/05/2006 17:12

Congrats on the scan results Woodelf. I'd forgotten I'm not the oldest mum to be on this thread !

Coriander73 · 05/05/2006 19:15

I wanted Oscar Woodelf but DH pooed pooed it...I think all the names you've chosen / thinking of are lovely :) Our baby is now known as Jim..Jack or Imogen - although MIL said the other day you'll probably change your mind at which point DH says don't you like them, she says of course & then I say (rather cheekily) & even if she didn't it's not up to her!!! Family..don't you just love em'!! :o :o

homemama · 05/05/2006 19:18

Congratulations, Woodelf. I love having a boy and as I said previously, I'd be more than happy with another one. We have the scan on Mon but we're taking the wait to see approach as it givesme something tolook forward to when I'm screaming like a Banshee! (sp?) Grin

Angeliz, I'd love to have a homebirth but the midwives in my area are really unsupportive of it. This is a shame as where we use to live they were very geared up towards it and encouraged it even for first timers. It's frustrating as I feel like I'm also a good candidate; quick, straightforward labour last time without intervention or stitches. Up, about and home later that day. No problems. I know I could push for one but I'm not keen to be in the care of a m/w who doesn't feel comfortable or have the experience to be there. One of the things she said was that I'd have to arrange for someone to come and collect DS as they don't like young children to be in the house. Shock Too much of a distraction apparently!

Norms, glad your managing to stay off the meds. But don't do it if you're going to feel like sh*t for the rest of the pg. No need to be a martyr. Smile

Marls, gas & air is nitrous oxide. Basically gives you a temporary high. Most women over here start with it. i.e rely on it for 5minutes! Grin

Hope everyone else is well and have enjoyed the sun! DS and I had a picnic in the garden yesterday. Smile

Coriander73 · 05/05/2006 19:28

Isn't that just right HM re gas & air?!!!! You ought to live near me in Suffolk..homebirths seem to be very popular in & around my area.

mandaz · 05/05/2006 19:49

Hi all

Just had my hair chopped! It's getting so thick and heavy and I was amazed how long it had grown at the back. These pg hormones are weird!Grin

Woodelf - congratulations on your boy. I think the name Oscar is lovely.

Coriander - I was told that I'd change my mind on names before the baby gets here too. Does that really happen often? I'm pretty set on the names I like but I have a couple of reserves just in case. I guess if you like a name all the way through pg it's a good sign that you'll like long term once LO is here.

I was hoping to BBQ this weekend so keeping fingers crossed that the weather forcast is wrong. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Marls001 · 05/05/2006 22:29

Thanks, Homemama! So you do have other options, and could have an epidural if you asked for one?
Never felt like I needed one myself, but IMHO should be every woman's right if they choose.

HellKat · 06/05/2006 06:48

Morning all!
Wood- Congrats on having a boy!!!!!
Mandaz- Definitely keep an eye out for the weird movement. looks like something out of aliens (stomach bursting bit lol). Absolutely fab to watch.
Mabel- Managed to get a pair of white trackies Envy

TopBanana · 06/05/2006 08:00

Hi everyone, congrats on the little boy woodelf Smile
I'm taking dd to a birthday party at a soft play type place later, its her first party ahhhhh!!! I'm still a little apprehensive when I go out as she’s only been potty trained about 3/4 weeks.

Bump is getting huge now. I seem to have outgrown my first pair of maternity jeans. Ordered some denim 3/4s from gap off ebay and they've just come Shock.
Getting loads of movement now.
Re pain relief, last time I had pethedine but didn't really like it. I couldn't have the gas and air because I was sick with every contraction and I'm a little scared it will happen again. I really want a water birth but I suppose I'll just see what happens.

Hope everyone enjoys another gorgeous day Smile

mabel1973 · 06/05/2006 10:27

Hi all,

congrats on your little boy woodelf - wow looks like there's loads of boys!
I am not sure if the baby's moved or something, but I am getting nasty pains in my tummy. He seems to be kicking me more internally, around my bladder, so maybe it's his back pressing against my stomach or something?
I had gas and air and pethadine last time, but that made me throw up and ended up begging for an epidural. I am going with an open mind this time, but hoping for a water birth.
HK - you are a very brave woman going 100% natural, but then I do remember you saying you enjoyed childbirth!!
Homemama - iam very surprised at your midwives attitude towards homebirths, I thought it was generally encouraged these day - it is round here, but I declined!

mandaz · 06/05/2006 13:02

Hi all

Mabel - I think my baby is lying that way too. When I lay down I can feel a big lump going right the way across my belly button which I assume is LO's back and head. I think the pains I was having in my side were LO kicking or squashing a nerve and I also get alot of twinges over the bladder area. Hope LO turns around before it gets much bigger! (hate calling LO 'it' but couldn't think of anything else!)

Hellkat - I'll definately look out for movement. Thing is, LO is so fast that by the time I realise there's movement it's gone! I am looking forward to the birth but getting a bit nervous too. More so about dealing with the pain than anything else.

I was told at my 20 week scan that I need to see my community midwife in 4 weeks time. Does anyone know if I have to contact her or if she contacts me? I know she's attached to my doctors surgery but am not sure if I have to ring them to book etc.

mabel1973 · 06/05/2006 14:21

Mandaz - I would contact the doctors yourself to make an appointment (or the midwife direct if you have her number). Otherwise you might end up waiting around

Marls001 · 06/05/2006 17:24

Hellkat I think it's wonderful you're feeling that way abt. the birth!! I had a very good albeit very long, drawn-out birth experience with DS1 (wow - now calling him "DS1") - and am just feeling very peaceful toward Sepetmber for DS2. I love how relaxed I am about it this time compared to last time. I do feel I know so much more now and that's comforting. Part of it too is shouldn't be nearly as long as last time - and my body should be ready. If I could handle that, I can handle anything!!

V. Envy at being able to SEE the movements - that's not me yet! And whenever I say to DH - "he's moving now!" & DH puts hand on belly - DS2 stops moving!! Grr. Hope he's more pliable when he's breathing oxygen Grin.

BTW, DS1 is very hyper these days; wondering how I'm going to do it with 2 boys(!) Those of us with only 1 are in for a big adventure in Sept., be the new one a boy or a girl!!

Belated congrats to Woodelf!!!

Mandaz - Felt hair last night & thought I'd put mousse in it, it's so much thicker! Smile

calvemjoe · 06/05/2006 20:49

Crazy people looking forward to the birth Wink the thought terrifies me!

So I'm at work for the 1st time since I got the co-codomol and it's quite funny. Pain kicked in after an hour so I popped 2 pills as prescribed. Within 20 mins I could barely keep my eyes open and I was sluring my words Blush. Could not concentrate at all. Work for a lift company and had 3 people trapped in different lifts at the same time and I was so confused trying to coordinate engineers! The fog lifted after about 3 hours and, on a positive note, the pain hasn't been too bad. May try one pill tomorrow Grin

Marls001 · 07/05/2006 03:25

Okay, since when (but pregnancy) does the following make since: "I'm so nauseated. I've got to eat something."

So sick today. If it weren't for my radiant skin & lustrous hair right now, I'd even be glad this is my last.

HellKat · 07/05/2006 07:15

Morning all.
Marls- this babba's the same. When I tell dp to feel it because it's moving, it stops as soon as his hand touches my belly lol. He has managed to feel some hefty kicks though.
Cal- Hope your pain eases soon hun. Try the down on all fours position for a little bit every day (head down, bum in the air). it's working wonders on my back, dodgy pelvis & spd.
Hope everyone's well and has a great sunday xxxxxxx

intergalacticwalrus · 07/05/2006 08:18

Hello all,

I'm a bit of an infrequent poster on this thread, but I have made a pact with myself to post on here a bit more often! I hope all of your pgs are going well. We found out we are having a boy last week. (another one!!! 2 boys under 2-pass the valium!!!) We are really chuffed, as all is well. He's healthy and kicks like nobody's business! We didn't find out with DS, and it's bloody weird knowing this time!!!!

Corinader- I sympathise with your sciatica. I have suffered in both pgs. I have had it when not pg too, and it's horrible isn't it? Have started to get pain in my pelvis too. Great this pg murlarkey isn't it?! I works as a Jo Jingles teacher too, which involves lots of jumping around and getting up from the floor. Methinks a chair will now be part of the routine, as I am getting too fat and creaky to keep getting off the floor!

Right, am off to relieve DP of story reading duties, as he has a hangover. I'm going to be cruel and make sure DS plays with all of his noisy toys this morning Grin

xxxxxxxxxxx

HellKat · 07/05/2006 08:26

Hiya Inter.
Lol you evil mare!
Congrats on having a boy!!! I've got 2 boys (so far), luckily not both under two. I did start to doubt my sanity though. Having a teenager (coupled with teenage strops), 2 yr old (tantrums included) and a new born. But hey, it'll be fun........I hope lol Wink

mabel1973 · 07/05/2006 11:42

Hi Inter - likewise will have 2 boys under 2! - we will be able to sympathise with each other how old is your ds1?

Well I am ill again! I don't think I got over the sickness bug thing I caught from DS last week, as the pains in my tummy, which I thought might just be the baby, turned in to the runs at midnight last night and 6am this morning!
DH stayed in liverpool last night, as he had a wedding to photograph, so I was on my ownsome with DS - thank god for cartoons on a sunday morning is all I can say!

mandaz · 07/05/2006 15:41

Marls - I got a huge shock this morning - not only is my hair getting really thick, it's also gone curly! Usually my hair is really straight and won't hold any type of curl or wave but now it's curling all over the place! Do you reckon this is down to hormones too? Smile

It's so miserable here today - pouring down with rain and quite cold. Bring back the sunshine!

compo · 07/05/2006 18:57

Sorry to hear about people being ill with sciatica and sick bugs Sad
Wish i had the radiant skin - mine is more like a hormonal teenagers!!
We've got our scan tomorrow morning so hopefully will be posting tomorrow pm with the sex!!

OP posts:
HellKat · 08/05/2006 08:16

Morning girls!
Compo- Good luck today hun!!! My spots have cleared up thank god. I rarely get any but up until 2/3 weeks ago, my face was covered especially my chin, forehead and one cheek.
Mabel- Awwww you poor thing! That's the downside og pg, it weakens your immune system. Hope you feel better soon.
Mandaz- My hair's gone extra straight so I'm lucky and does'nt seem to get as greasy so quickly. Not any thicker though (would be great if it was Smile)
Hope everyone has a great day & hiya everyone else x

Coriander73 · 08/05/2006 09:03

Good luck Compo :o

Am off to the osteopath again today as in much pain with legs...this better not be the start of an unpleasant 4 months!!!

puppy · 08/05/2006 09:49

Congratulations on your boy woodelf

Good luck with your scans homemama and Compo

This LO is the same - every time dh puts his hand on my belly it stops movng but last night dh managed to feel some light taps Smile

Intergalacticwalrus - congratualtions on your little boy too

lol HK we will be the same 16year old female Kevin, 4 year old son who has grown horns over the last few days (he really has been hard work), and a new born.

Mable Hope you are feeling better soon.

Coriander I hope the osteopath helps you today.

Went shopping yesterday and went to Next clearance shop, I got a pair of cream cropped linen trousers and a pair of of dusky pink for £4.49 each!!! they look lovely on and the bonus is they are over the bump ones with plenty of room for my bump to grow into. I also got a thin long sleeved white top which I am unsure off. Worth checking this shop out if you hae one near you.

I measured my waist at the beginning of the pregnancy and then yesterday and I have put on 3inches, and weight wise only 2 pounds, so I am happy with that.

21 weeks yesterday, scan on wednesday - can't wait Smile

Hope you all have a good day

Bella23 · 08/05/2006 10:45

Morning all

Gosh a lot to catch up on. I hope my hair texture changes to straight………I seem to spend my life trying to get it to do the opposite of nature, ie I have curly hair that I straighten all the time as otherwise I end up looking a bit like a cabbage patch doll (for those of you who remember those!) GHD are my little saviour!

Well am getting lots of kicks but think there is still too much blubber for DH to feel them through my skin. Hopefully in a few weeks he will be able to feel them.

Ooh love the name Oscar, that’s on my shortlist as well. DH not as keen but he can be worked on!

Well its miserable weather here, no fun coming to work this morning, although whilst in danger of sounding like an old person, its good for the garden!

Gosh, all this talk of labour and birth is making it all feel so real!! Yikes, must admit to feeling slightly panicked about the pain aspect. Plan so far is to try as natural as possible but with the option of an epidural if needed. There are so many horror stories and with my Mum having all of us lot via c-section then am a little concerned about what I might be in for!! Oh well the end result will be worth it!

Well best get on with some work………….
