thanks everyone re the breastfeeding - I was starting to feel worried in case it just didn't happen or I was unable to - I guess we all get conditioned to a certain extent via mw advice etc, and we should actually be free to make our own choices.

As a first timer there are so many things I have no idea about, and being made to feel like a failure for something like that just terrifies me!

Homemama - Johnny is a great name - and I bet johnny lee miller never got called condom at school Grin - and it's more unusual - Jack and Josh I think are top 1 and 2 in boys names at the moment. embarassed that i know that Blush

Norms it's so easy to sell on ebay, but much easier to buy - could you sell the clothes on MN?

Sold out and bought another pg and baby mag yesterday - too many gorgeous baby clothes in it make me want to spend spend spend! Think i'm going to freeze the credit cards though (sure dh will think this a good idea)

Does anyone know where to get decent casual maternity skirts from? I can't find any anywhere and I'm dreading if it's a really hot summer! my legs don't look great in shorts normally let alone now!!!

Have a great evening everyone - it's nearly the weekend Smile

Marls001 · 06/04/2006 20:17

Hi Bella & Lysettes–here it is …OB/GYN came highly recommended; practicing in central skyscraper at Texas Medical Center (known for heart transplants and all sorts of top-notch procedures) … she told me when I said “but it’s best for the baby,” there actually weren't any tests or medical records that justified staying with breast milk if it was making me uncomfortable – said really not enough of a difference between breast milk and today’s DHA formulas to translate to more than slight differences on any scale - IQ, immunity, etc. In other words, yes, “breast is best,” but really not too much better. Given the way what I'd read and heard had been phrased, I was shocked by that info. from someone who should really know. But made me feel a WHOLE lot better about making the decision I felt I had to.

Homemama, I have a nephew named Johnny … pardon my ignorance; why does that name have to do with condoms? Blush

Lots of A names very popular among 2 & 3 year old boys here - Alex, Aidan, Abran ... also Taylor(boy or girl), Zachary

Compo – so sorry you’re still sick. Very occasionally still am, at 18 weeks.

Is anyone else taking supplement DHA?

It’s the “new thing” for pg to do here, I guess ... wasn’t aware of it with DS.

mandaz · 06/04/2006 21:34

Hello, thanks for all the supportive messages. I went to see my solicitor today and she was lovely so the ball is rolling as they say.

I'm a bit worried that I haven't felt anything. I thought I had before but it was only when I put my hand on my bump and I felt like a muscle twitch. But I haven't felt anything from the inside. I keep reading about people feeling kicks at this stage. I am overweight though so maybe there's too much padding Grin The bottom of my tummy is sore too, like mild period pains. I've not had any other symptoms though so I'm hoping it's ok. I have my scan next Thursday so hopefully can relax after that.

I have finally settled on Thomas Jack for a boy because my great-grandad was called Thomas and it'd mean alot to my Dad. My parents have been so supportive since I split from my husband. I still like Georgia Rose for a girl.

Roll on next Thursday!

compo · 07/04/2006 09:13

Thomas Jack is lovely!! I have finally hit the 11 stone mark. When I was pregnant with ds I wasn't 11 stone until 33 weeks Shock Blush

homemama · 07/04/2006 09:40

Morning everyone!
I think the last time I managed to post 3 days in a row, I was 5wks pg! Smile
Thomas Jack is nice. Tom is good.

Lol, Marls! A Johnny is a British slang word for a condom although it's not heard as much these days so I'm hoping it won't be the first thing that springs into the minds of cruel 7yr olds. Oh well, maybe we'll have a girl!

Hope everyone has a good day! Smile

homemama · 07/04/2006 09:44

Oh Compo, I'm sure it's all baby! Grin
In pregnancy sometimes all you can do to stop yourself being sick is to stuff your face.
Let's not think about weight til we're all on the Sept 06 post natal threads!

Bella23 · 07/04/2006 12:11

Marls - ooh thanks for the info re formula, nice to hear as really think the whole boob thing is going to be a bit too much for me!

OOh please - no talk of weighing!! I am keeping well away from my scales, don't wish to know officially what a lard arse I am, shudder!!

Mandaz - love the name and you sound all positive, good girl for getting the ball rolling.
As for movements, none here either!

Marls - wow what a story - but very interesting to know!

I am not going near the scales, as last time i weighed myself i was getting bigger each day, but on the scales making no difference - so I reckon they're broken!

Puppy that's absolutely brilliant news {{{{hugs}}}}!

We have good news - triple test results received last night and we're not at risk, although I can't find out the actual ratio at the moment. But a huge relief to actually know anyway Smile

What's everyone up to this weekend?

mandaz · 07/04/2006 14:25

Compo - how I wish I was 11 stone! It's a distant memory for me at the moment. I've found it so hard being plus size and pg. I have to say the medical staff I've seen have been really nice about it but it's so hard finding nice clothes etc other than Evans. It'll be back to Weight Watchers for me come September!

liquidclocks · 07/04/2006 17:20

Hi all! jus checked in for first time in a few days.

Manda - sorry about you and H, hope you've got lots of friends and family around you.

So glad you're not all BF fanatics! I have a medical condition that requires medication so can't breastfeed (DS is just fine!), still you wouldn't think the midwife heard me say that - she made me feel horrible for saying I wasn't going to breastfeed and made me promise to try - I did and it made me really ill. Nazi! Waht's best for mum is best for baby :)!!!

mabel1973 · 07/04/2006 19:12

Hi all
Hope everyones ok and ready for the weekend!
Lysettes congrats on your test results
Puppy good news about the school - just out of curiosity how old is your Ds? I haven't even given schools a thought yet - maybe I should I've only just regsistered him for pre-school. Hope dentists wasn't too stressful.
All this talk of weight - don't worry about it. I don't own a set of scales and I'm sure it's for the best. I dread to think what I weigh - but I'll worry about that in sept :).
Well I have got an insurance claim going through for the repairs needed on the dining room ceiling. In fact it could work out to be a blessing - our house it what you might call an on going project and the repair job on the ceiling will (hopefully) have a much better finish than it had before!

puppy · 07/04/2006 19:25

Good news on your results lysettes Smile

Mabel my ds was four at the beginning of feb.
I put his name down on the waiting list for this school when he was 18mth, and for his preschool to make sure I had a better chance of getting him in, I also wrote a big essay on the reasons why I wanted him to go to this school Grin I love wakefield areas school admission office lol.

The dentists was stressful lol , i had to have two fillings one done with no bother the second I was not fully numb even though I had two injections, after having the second injection I waved my arm to indicate I was still feeling it but she carried on anyway even though I was protesting Angry, she then explained that I must have an extra nerve going to the tooth and that it would be very hard to locate it. Thinking about it though I am glad she carried on anyway because if she had stopped I don't think I would have opened my mouth for her again lol,its all over and done with now.

puppy · 07/04/2006 19:26

I think there were too many lols in that post Blush

Woodelf · 08/04/2006 10:50

Hithere!

Sorry haven't posted in a while but been working v hard and now on well-earned hols for 2 weeks!

Glad to hear most are feeling well, but I can't believe how the sickness can go on for some of you - aargghh!

nearly pmsl this morning as bump gets bigger and partner gets more enthusiastic about reality of the situation - however he said that nearer the date I should start staying up at night and sleeping during the day 'to get the lo in to the day/night idea' Shock. No idea about this but told him I'll be resting up as much as phsyically possible with a body like a blimp and still working ft... Is this an indication of things to come???
I think he's been talking to his little chums at work and they are dispensing 'good advice'! Will need to nip this one in the bud asap.....

Have a glorious bumptious weekend {{{{hugs}}}}

mabel1973 · 08/04/2006 20:03

woodelf - I remember when pg with DS that by the end I was so uncomfortable in bed I couldn't sleep properly at night anyway - I am sure it's your body's way of getting you used to the idea of being awake at some ungodly hour! Grin
hope evryone's enjoying their weekend!

cece · 08/04/2006 20:15

Sorry to hijack but just been reading the last few posts.

Approve of the name HM. My DS is called Jonny. Had no mean people calling him condom yet! It is short for Jonathan but hardly ever gets called that. Always Jonny!

Normsnockers · 09/04/2006 09:08

Marls,

What is the DHA supplement you mentioned ?

curlygirl · 09/04/2006 10:47

Homemama - I think you misread what I was saying about BF the other day (sorry, I haven't logged on for a few days). I was saying that a mother should do whatever is right for her regarding breast and bottle feeding. I was explaining that I struggled to BF for two months but I would have given up earlier if I had not felt judged upon. A woman should do whatever she feels is best for her and her baby at the time. I too was saying that I dislike the way some mothers are put down for the choices they make. I then said that I will be trying to bf again because I don't like the expense of formula milk and the making up of bottles etc. I will not be putting myself through what I did last time though, I will give up much sooner if it is not going well, I don't care what others think anymore. I think that comes with confidence of having been through it before. You realise that the bf/af stage is only a small part of being a parent and then when your child is older you realise that it was all a big fuss over something quite trivial really in the grand scheme of things.
I am sorry if anyone thought I was being a competitve parent, I am nothing like that I assure you.
Hope everyone is well.Smile

Marls001 · 09/04/2006 19:35

Manda, it’s so great that you like and trust your lawyer. Best of luck with that process. One of my friends is going through it right now. It’s actually been a good experience for her, believe it or not. She was beaten (emotionally) into submission by her former H, but being in court has given her confidence and poise - all of us friends of hers couldn’t be prouder of her right now. I think “Thomas Jack” sounds wonderful.

Puppy, Elizabeth Ann and Adam are great too. We’re considering Tevin Isabella if it’s a girl (my & DS’s names are as unusual) but don’t have further boys’ names picked yet …
Sorry about dentist. Yuk.

Congrats on DS’s school. Since we’re no longer in Houston, DS can’t go to mine … when they didn’t hear from me they assumed we were gone & filled his spot. Sounds like the system is much the same over there. We’re interviewing for the local Montessori on Wednesday – just to do it.

Homemama, thanks! Sometimes I get British slang in context; other times I have no idea …Blush

Lysettes – CONGRATS on the test!! This weekend … DH setting up DS’s soccer goal in the backyard as I type. Nothing too exciting …
DH’s parents coming in next weekend for Easter. They’re wonderful, so I’m looking forward to it!

Woodelf, good advice is as you say – as much sleep AS POSSIBLE before baby; rest up!! Got 12 hours last night; DH took DS this morning. Aah.

Norms – DHA is fish oil (with mercury taken out), supposed to aid brain development. Many pg in US are taking it now, though they weren’t even 3 years ago. I’m taking 500 mg/day, increasing to 1000 mg/day weeks 25 – 28, when fetal development is more about the brain.

Found this \link{http://www.webmd.com/content/tools/1/slide_fetal_dev.htm\fetal development slide show} online & thought it was neat.

Sorry so long!! Blush

Morning all.
Wow loads of messages since I last posted. Must read them properly.
Homemama- Great to see you posting again! Must feel wonderful not being so sick.
It's amazing that this many women all feel the same about bf v's bf. It's wonderful. Especially for the first timers.
Well finally got my anti-biotics so hopefully this will clear up soon (uti) and for some reason woke up yesterday morning and my bump is huge. No idea why. It seems to have grown so much overnight. Even dp noticed it as soon as he woke up lol. Anyone else still feeling shattered all the time? Please let there be someone else Smile. I'm normally bouncing around with energy after 12 wks but this time I'm still knackered.

Have a great day all x

TopBanana · 10/04/2006 10:44

I'm always knackered HellKat! In bed by 10 every night. Everyone says my bump has grown. My company don't do a maternity uniform, I have to buy stuff myself and claim the money back. BUT our uniform is navy blue and nowhere does smart navy maternity clothes!!
I'm potty training dd at last. Started on Saturday, not doing too bad I suppose. I'm determined this time, even joined Cod's potty training thread Grin

curlygirl · 10/04/2006 11:42

homemama - you didn't offend me, I just didn't want you to get me wrong Smile. I think it is important for everyone on this thread to know we are all supportive of any decisions they make. Pregnancy can be such a stressful time, as well as a joyous one. I remember beating myself up about something on a weekly basis when I had dd, and I think it is important for first timers especially to know that whatever decision you make, it usually works out ok in the end.
2 weeks to the next milestone for me - 20week scan-yipee half way already! Best wishes to all for easter.

compo · 10/04/2006 11:58

Hi everyone. Still being sick here Sad Hope it's not going to last the whole way through!! Got a bit panicky because I hadn't felt any flutters for a couple of days but then felt something last night. Roll on 8th May for 21 week scan!!
