I would imagine I'll be the first to post here for a little while - I just found out today.

Look forward to hearing for you soon Smile

Hi all, any chance i could barge in as a late comer? just found website, am due dec6th (1st one), had dating & nuchal but still not heard a peep from the midwife, have booked an app for 16wks but don't think i'll see her b4 this as on hol next wk! bit panicky about not having seen or heard from her yet - is this normal (the midwife i mean, not the panicking!)

accessorizequeen · 03/06/2006 09:53

Welcome beepbeep & congratulations!
think that one reason to see midwife for booking in is to get 1st lot of bloods done - have you had any done yet? I was told yesterday at dating scan that I wouldn't get a nuchal, just bloods so maybe because you've had a nuchal things are different? I delayed my booking-in (because of hols) and m/w said it was fine because I'd still only be 14-15 weeks. Midwife would have said if you needed to go in early as she would know your EDD by then? If you have your paperwork, there might be a number for a community midwives group or day clinic so you could speak to a midwife on call. If it will make you feel less panicky, ring & ask them, doesn't do any harm. I rang a lot with first pregnancy and felt reassured afterwards!

beepbeep · 03/06/2006 11:44

Thanks for that. I actually paid extra for the nuchal, had it 3 weeks after the dating & was amazing to see the difference, get some new pictures and reassurance that all is well. I haven't had any blood or anything taken yet (other than part of the private nuchal), but will try giving the doctors or the midwife group a call on monday.

accessorizequeen, I am going to be 22 weeks at my brother's wedding and I can't find anything to wear either. If it wasn't family I wouldn't worry as much but I want something really special - but not becessarily expensive! I did see a great dress on the topshop website but by the time I got my act together it had sold out. There's one on Isabella Oliver I'm umming about but it only comes in black (so no good for family daytime wedding) or bright pink which I know will look awful on me, especially as I'll prob look bloated and quite pink enough.
Need to look for an empire line dress but am nervous about buying too soon. But if I leave it to closer to the time I probably won't be able to find anything.

lennied · 03/06/2006 16:27

Cupcakes and AQ -I am having similar problem. Will be 20 weeks when going to a black tie do with MIL and FIL. I think I have seen the same dress as you cupcakes on Isabella Oliver and had a similar debate over it. Pink really doesn't suit me, and also concerned about jersey material - not sure what state my bum will be in by then!! Might not be too flattering to have something so clingy. If anyone has any luck anywhere then let us all know. Am thinking about a skirt and top that match and look like a dress at the moment as dresses can be so unforgiving!

beepbeep · 03/06/2006 16:43

have you had a look at the Next maternity range, it is limited but they do nice linen trousers and top which are pretty smart - i'm think about them for a wedding in August. they do them in a few different colours as well.

accessorizequeen · 03/06/2006 18:16

Found thread from while back which was on this very problem (occasion wear for bumps) \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2350&threadid=95719&stamp=050801072110\where to buy maternity occasionwear}
And JoJo/blooming marvellous do have a couple of nice pieces. Mothercare had quite nice \link{http://www.mothercare.com/icat/shomaternityfashion\matching top & skirt} (photo for dresses & skirts) on their website. I was thinking of \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lb2855&bklist=icat,5,shop,shomaternity,matfashion,fastops\this }also (which would help disguise enormous boobs, I think). Formes has beautiful stuff if you've got the money too. I'm off to Leeds tomorrow, hope I find something just for hols/work much less a wedding!

SRM · 04/06/2006 19:11

I haven't seen midwife either, think every hospital trust does it differently. I'm due for nuchal and bloods etc at 12-13 weeks (am 10 weeks on Tuesday). Don't think midwife visit at this stage is any more than re-assurance that it is normal to feel so awful!! I suddenly seem to have have bulge (it isn't attractive enough to be a bump!) which I think is due to constantly eating to stop myself throwing up rather than anything else..... Have a nasty feeling the maternity clothes are going to have to come out of the loft soon....

beepbeep · 05/06/2006 12:53

I'm 14weeks on wed and this last 10 days my bulge has formed a bit more of a bump!! had a shop at blooming marvelous yesterday - quite bizarre being in maternity clothes, still feel like i'm only pretending at being pregant - if this keeps up it'll be one hell of a shock when it's born! Don't think i'll bother chasing up midwife, like you say it's prob only reassurance, seeing her a week after i get back from hols anyway for 16 appt.

Devongirl · 05/06/2006 13:21

Hi Beepbeep, nice to see you here

I went and bought some clothes this weekend - it is so nice not to have to undo my button whenever I sit down! I bought some lovely trousers from Dorothy Perkins - I now forgive them for their horrible dress on the website.

On a totally unrelated subject, is anyone else suffering from embarassing wind problems?Blush. I can't help it, occassionally the worst smelling farts known to man are squeaking out! Poor dh is suffering the effects! What is going on? (Sorry for TMI)

beepbeep · 05/06/2006 13:31

haven't been too bad, but worse than usual, luckily (or not?!?) we have a 13 week old puppy that has a bad wind problem when he's eaten something he shouldn't - subsequently able to blame everything on him!

accessorizequeen · 05/06/2006 13:57

Went shopping yesterday, complete load of dross, didn't buy a thing. Our New Look doesn't do Maternity, neither does M&S, Mothercare had lovely black trousers but only in short (sigh) and DP's diabolical vests that won't fit me in a month. Everything is sleeveless (urrghh, fat arms), tied under the bust (urgghh, big boobs) or cropped (fluid filled ankles). Clearly the rest of you are all twiglets and it doesn't do to get pregnant when you are already size of small whale. Grin

accessorizequeen · 05/06/2006 13:58

Twiglet = skinny
It's great that I can now blame all of my bad habits on pregnancy, if only I'd realised the 1st time.

Devongirl · 05/06/2006 14:24

Have you got an H&M near you? They had some OK stuff in their maternity section, but quite a lot of nice stuff that wasn't maternity but that stretched easily and with lots of room to grow into, especially sheer flowery tops which hide a multitude of sins if you can find a vest to go underneath.

beepbeep · 05/06/2006 17:19

i live near Oxford & there is nothing around here maternity wise, ended up travelling to Bath!

lennied · 05/06/2006 18:11

Hi all,

Wore my maternity trousers to work today and got away with no questions - although I am sure it won't last long! Am having the same problems with the whole sleeveless thing tho. I don't do no sleeves, and the tie under boobs thing is a bit of an issue too. Thing is I see so many places on the internet start with the reassuring 'I designed these clothes after seeing how crap maternity clothes were....' from the designer, and then they are selling the same dross themselves! I am developing a passionate hate for jersey anything. Oh well, at least I survived work!

xxxx Smile

lennied · 05/06/2006 18:15

AQ - did you try H & M in Leeds? In the one in the New Look shopping centre they have quite a decent maternity section downstairs with the childrens clothes - although a lot of it was dreadful there were some good basics - t-shirts, black or white work tops and things. Nothing ground breaking but I made a start there. I must admit tho, I went round Leeds with DH the other day and came home with very little, but very depressed! George in Leeds does some maternity, and Next has a few bits - also in the Next clearance - but you have to get lucky there.

accessorizequeen · 05/06/2006 21:01

I did go to H&M last time, and have a pair of very funky combats still. And I'm having no trouble with trousers, just tops to contain the chest. But it was a lot of dross, like the kid's clothes & then you get something wonderful (their baby clothes for boys were adorable). Was intending to make it to Leeds, maybe they'll have M&S maternity? And George/Next might be better. But feeling miserable yesterday so stuck to boring home town Hull although it's not my original home town! Lennied, are you near me then? If anyone's near a mothercare, I can thorougly recommend black 'jersey' (sorry Lennied) trousers for 20 quid (actually they had buy 1, get 1 half price) I think anyone could wear them for months. I tried a few vests with the ruching at the sides, and they were v.v. flattering surprisingly emphasised the waist. Still thinking panic thoughts about wedding as if I can't find a t-shirt! how can I find gorgeous floaty dressy outfit for hot august. Still, there's always accessories!
Anyone feeling better? I'm noticing the difference at 12+ weeks, and going on hols Fri (yay). When I come back, shall announce bump at work. Pregnancy doesn't feel so scary when all I'm thinking about is ruching Grin

accessorizequeen · 05/06/2006 21:03

Mamas & Papas near Ikea too, Lennied, little bit pricey but the trousers I bought are still in great nick if you're intending to have more. If you're near Leeds, there's also a place in York called Expecting that's good (Gillygate, I think).

beepbeep · 06/06/2006 08:49

Off on hols today - yipee! though had major probs getting anything to wear near pool/beach, am usually a 12 and ended up buying a 16 bikini from Next - anything in my normal size was indecent!! Anyway hope you all have a good/non sicky etc week.

Devongirl · 06/06/2006 16:03

Wow, just had my scan. That was amazing and we both cried. I was feeling pessimistic about everything but that has just changed how I feel completely. I am just totally overwhelmed and seeing our little baby with its heart beating was incredible

lennied · 06/06/2006 16:19

Congratulations Devongirl - I really can't wait for mine. Only another couple of weeks. Got a late one as DH is away next week so had to be put back a week. I can only imagine how good it must be to see a little baby on the screen.

AQ- I used to live in Leeds, was there for about 6 years, but moved to East Lancs a few years ago now. Closer to Manchester now, but still shop in Leeds cos it is so much better, and I know where everything is! Will have to look into Mamas and Papas. Keep eyeing up peoples pushchairs and car seats at the moment, and all the good ones seem to be from there or mothercare! I'm sure people think I am stalking them, when really I'm tying to read the brand name on their swanky car seat!!

Also, have noticed about a gazillion pg women in the supermarket now I know what to look for! And hubby gets a look of fear/excitment every time he sees a buggy. It's all starting to feel real now.

lennied · 06/06/2006 16:21

forgot to say enjoy your hols beepbeep and AQ Smile

accessorizequeen · 06/06/2006 20:40

enjoy your hols beep beep, i'm making my packing list up tonight! devongirl, sounds fab, i did get a bit teary-eyed myself. Lennied, can't believe you go to Leeds rather than Man, don't you have Selfridges?? I lived in Leeds for while too, and shops so much better so I get there a bit. Mumsnet do pushchair recommendations which are v.good. It hasn't ended for me, I've bought 4 pushchairs in all and looking at swapping my bugaboo for a mountain buggy b4 Hercule is born as fed up with bugaboo. It does get a bit addictive & sad really how much time you spend thinking about pushchairs. I was thinking we'd get an Isofix car seat this time round (we had a loaner last time) as they're so easy to fix, remember getting v.hot & bothered about wrapping the seatbelt round whilst ds screamed!!! Course dp says we don't need to buy anything more surely, har har.

accessorizequeen · 06/06/2006 20:42

didn't mean saddo for thinking about pushchairs (I've spent 3 years doing it!) just easy to be obsessed!
