Look forward to hearing for you soon Smile

Debbsy · 28/04/2006 08:56

im thinking of having a water birth seriously considering it anyway.

Bloo · 28/04/2006 09:06

Sorry lennied Wink. Me too on the water birth - apparently it takes a lump of the pain away - definitely for me!!

Debbsy · 28/04/2006 09:07

i am v scared about it though.

Bloo · 28/04/2006 09:08

Don't be. You will cope and there will be other people around to intervene if necessary. Remember at all times - you're just having a baby!!

Bloo · 28/04/2006 09:12

But I absolutely know what you mean!!!

Angsthase · 28/04/2006 10:13

Looks like I'll be leaving you soon. Was feeling like my symptoms were fading so got referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit yesterday. My embryo is only 5mm long and has no heartbeat, so it looks like it stopped growing at week 6 Sad I've got another scan in a week, but I know that my dates aren't wrong, so it's just a case of waiting for the inevitable now.

Hope you all have healthy pregnancies. I'll keep lurking to see how you're all doing.

cupcakes · 28/04/2006 10:16

Angsthase - I'm so sorry. I had a mc in March so I can imagine how you're feeling. Take care of yourself.
x

K1K2 · 28/04/2006 11:38

Dear Angsthase, I am so sorry.......I don't know what else to say, you had at least had the foresight to know what may have been happening and had good intervention to have it diagnosed early on, so that you are in some ways, prepared, rather than suffer the shock of a sudden event... take care Sad

lucy5 · 28/04/2006 11:41

So sorry Sad

K1K2 · 28/04/2006 11:47

I am looking for Jabberwocky as we are on the same EDD. I can't come to the MN discussions that often as I work almost F/T and don't get in from work until 7pm. Try to get on once week, How are things?? I haven't seen you on for a while...

My sypmtoms aren't that strong either, but still there ( I'm 7weeks) . Can't wait to see dr for first pre-nat appointment and get a heart beat, then I 'll feel re-assured. This is such a horrible time and I just want to wish my life away and be well past the 12 weeks. Does anyone know if the dr can test the levels of your pg hormone just at a clinic withought going to the hospital, perhaps that would re-assure me. Can they can also match the level of hormone with the week of gestation to see they correlate accordingly?

cupcakes · 28/04/2006 11:50

they might be able to - after all it is just blood tests which will get sent to a lab. However, my hormone tests (2pg's ago) were done at EPAU and I think unless you are private (and prepared to pay for them) I doubt the nhs would do them unless you had any reason to think you were actually miscarrying. Sad

Debbsy · 28/04/2006 11:53

Anghstase i really am so very sorry, you take care hun remember time is a great healer and hope to se you back on here very very soon, you sound such a strong person but heres a hugs hug anyhow
((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))

:(

jabberwocky · 28/04/2006 17:38

Angsthase, I am so, so sorry. I read your post of fading symptoms and hoped it was just a phase. Words fail me at times like this, just take all the time you need to grieve. It's hard for others to understand when it is so early, but it is a loss, and should be honored as such.

jabberwocky · 28/04/2006 17:43

Hi, K1K2, I'm in the US so sometimes not on until later in the day your time (unless I have insomnia!)

Re: symptoms, the last few days I have developed some queasiness and it has affected my ability to drink the massive quantities of water that the nurse advised. I'm doing the best I can with it, but small sips seem to be all I can handle. Still not much soreness in the boobs, but didn't really get that last time either.

I actually took another pregnancy test about a week and a half ago just to reassure myself. The line was definitely darker than my first one, which made me feel much better. Others MNers have retested when mcing and the lines got fainter and fainter. You actually can go to your doctor and have your blood levels tested to correlate with your week of pregnancy. A friend of mine did that (she was going through fertility treatment).

As far as anything else goes, sleeping a lot still, and kind of bloated (icky feeling, that)

HTH

spinamum · 28/04/2006 19:02

Angsthase, I'm so sorry. The same thing happened to my friend but she got pg again. She had a beautiful boy within a few months of her original due date.
It may not feel it at the moment, but life does fix itself in the end.

All my love and a big hug.

lennied · 28/04/2006 21:20

So sorry Angsthase, x

lennied · 28/04/2006 21:32

Bloo,

Now that I am not eating breakfast (!!) I am seriously considering a waterbirth too. However I know that in my area there are very limited facilities so I am looking into hiring a birthing tub and taking it to the hospital with me! Do you think this is a bit extreme? It is my first pg so not sure how this will go down with the hospital but my GP seemed to think it wasn't unheard of. I have suffered with arthritis for a number of years and know that water helps me with pain so I am fairly certain that I will respond in some way to water during birth for pain control. So I do have rational reasons for being quite set on having access to water - although I am open-minded enough to realise that once I get there I might be repulsed at the sight of it and not even dip my big toe in. There is a really good thread in the birth section about waterbirths that is worth reading - most of the women on there have had very positive experiences and although some didn't have the pushing stage in the water they found the water soothing during contractions. Also - again because of my arthritis - it is going to be very important for me to stay active during the birth because otherwise my joints will stiffen up and I will be immobile after the birth if it takes any length of time so I am going to try and avoid an epidural if I can - although if things get desperate then I'll have one. I think the water would help me to avoid an epidural - anyway I am going to discuss all this with my midwife when I book in in a few weeks.

Also - and sorry for the long post - can anyone help me out with a question about antihistamine cream? Is it safe in pregnancy? I have a funny reaction to insect bites (they swell up massive, weap and generally drive me crazy - and no I don't itch them). I have some antihistamine cream that I usually use but I've thrown away the carton and instructions so have no idea if it is safe or not. The internet gives the usual 'consult your pharmiscist', as if that's useful at 9.30pm on a bank holiday weekend!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Debbsy · 29/04/2006 09:05

As a pharmacy technician lennied i would say speak to your pharmacist ring one of them today,i would recommend you dont use it till you have checked as protocol changes on these things all the time.

lennied · 29/04/2006 12:44

Thanks Debbsy,
Have rung them and they have said that it should be safe if I use only the lowest dose and only if desperate, although they also said that anything in early pregnancy is best avoided. I think that means don't use it pretty much, unless I swell up to the size of a mammoth - in which case I can use it sparingly. Oooh (heavy sigh) this pregnancy business really does take over your life a bit doesn't it. Enjoy your bank holiday weekend everyone, even if it will be without a nice glass of wine!

lennied · 29/04/2006 12:52

Oooh, they just rang me back from the doctors - anhistamine is a definate no - can cause tumours or something according to animal tests. Now I am scared since I am sure I would have used some before I knew I was pregnant. Doctor was reassuring but now I am worried. Sad

MINNIE1 · 30/04/2006 09:24

Angsthase
So sorry to hear you are leaving hugs to you [hugs]

I was at the A&E again this week this time i found out the placenta has come away from the womb and has a pool of blood behind it. This is why i am bleeding. I am at a higher risk of MC now but the baby seems to be growing. I have another scan on the 16th of may so i am praying this will have healed.

I have only skimmed through but thinking of birth is frighting first time but really its not that bad. Just get the epidural its great even if it only works on one side!

Right must go as DD is asleep and i need to shower and get ready for the day b4 she gets up!

Talk soon and take care.

Debbsy · 30/04/2006 09:54

everything crossed for you minnie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

spinamum · 30/04/2006 10:26

Debbsey, in answer to your previous question.. i'm a community pharmacist.

Sorry i missed the antihistamine question, everyone. I'd definately suggest at this stage to try to avoid most things. That might be slightly paranoid, but it saves you months of stressing because even if stuff is safe, you'll find someone who tells you it's not at some point. I've been in situations where others have very convincingly argued that someting i've done is dangerous, even if i know in the other(pharmacist) side of my brain they're talking cobblers. When you're tired, hormonal and studies are coming out every ten minutes about dos and don't in pregnancy, it can be difficult to see the wood from the tetrogenes.

sorry for the semi-rant. If i'm ever on line and you guys want to check i'm happy to be "on-call".(even on BH weekends!)

lennied, i wouldn't worry about using some antihistamine. we all do stuff before we know we're pg. i'd being trying for a year and had got to the stage where i'd stopped avoiding stuff (in case i was pg) and hey presto.

The manufacturers quite rightly are cautious about suggesting pg women talk/use their products. But that's because pg women don't volunteer for drug trials. And as the recent drug trial events have shown you can't always use animal data to predict human response. I'm now getting into very wobbley teritory and i'm not prepared to start that debate up so i'm changing the subject!

my ms seems to be starting up a bit, but on the other hand had a scare in the toilet yesterday. Had a spot (just one) of blood when I wiped. I've been trying to be very pragmatic about this pregnancy. You know, early days, too soon to start planning too far ahead, etc, but when that happened, i felt so sick and kept popping to loo to check which i do every half an hour anyway. It made me realise I may have already jumped ahead of myself. I'm hoping the blood was something local IYKWIM.
The last two weeks since my pg test have seemed the longest ever. Sometimes I wish i'd not done the test and was still in the "could i just be very late, maybe i am pg" stage.

Bring on 12 wks. SOOOOO sorry about the length of this post.

jabberwocky · 30/04/2006 18:15

Minnie, is that the same as placental abruption? My massage therapist had that with her second pregnancy from quite early on. She was on bed rest the whole time, but then had a very healthy baby. He's a fab teenager today!

spinamum, I had some spotting like that with ds. It was very scary. I would always go lie down and practice deep breathing so as not to go straight into panic mode. Have to admit to obsessively checking though. It happened a couple of times the first trimester, then stopped.

Bloo · 30/04/2006 18:18

LIFE BEFORE BIRTH / IN THE WOMB: I know that a few people have been after this - a DVD that shows real footage of what goes on inside the womb using 3D / 4D scans as well as computer generated etc. It was on C4 at some point. Anyway - I have the website where you can order it \link{http://www.rocketrights.com/about.php\here} and it costs £18 incl postage.
