Conratulations Abi.... hope all is going well now for you and little Isaac.Smile
Haven't been online for a few days and can't believe how much has happened.I truly sympathise with those of you still battling into work, especially in London but after being really poorly during 2nd Trimester and then going back to work I can only say that NOTHING is more important than the health (and sanity!!!!) of you and your baby, and if others don't understand that well.... they know what they can do!!!!Shock

Am getting quite used to Maternity Leave now, was worried that I might be bored but actually can't believe how busy I am!!!! Am a little anxious about having baby 'turned' next week, has anyone had it done before? Was it successful/painful?

louismummy · 25/04/2006 11:58

congrats abi... take it easy, let your dh and mum do all the running around. enjoy

hockeymum · 25/04/2006 12:21

Congratulations Abi and welcome Isaac. I'm sorry your experiences of his arrival were so hectic, I do hope you manage to settle down soon and recover spending lots of time cuddling your little man. Jaundice is really common when they are a bit early, particularly if feeding takes a while. Keep feeding as often as possible and it'll clear up soon. The treatment is really quick too although for your sake I do hope you don't have to go back in. Theo is just a little jaundiced so the midwife said to feed him every 2 hours in the day and to place his little bouncy chair by a window for sunlight (hmmn, it always rains here in wales,) but he is in the window anyway as it is daylight and is currently being entertained to an epic fairytale involving barbie, tinkerbell and baby annabell by dd, the lucky boy!

littlemisspiggy - my baby is 2/5 engaged aswell and this is my second pregnancy, i was wondering what your due date is?

runtus - i completely sympathise with swollen ankles and legs, i just try to not do too much and put my feet up, which can be a little difficult with a 2 year old running around.

XX

littlemisspiggy · 25/04/2006 14:00

Momamia, I am due on the 24th although I'm convinced he will show up early.

louismummy · 25/04/2006 14:04

don't get too excited my friend engaged early both times and was 6 days late with both Grin. she was certian tthat she was going to be early. Sorry!

ladyoracle · 25/04/2006 14:32

Congratulations Hockeymum and Abi, and really well done for managing the feeding thing, that must have been really hard work!

I'm due on the 25th, but my first 2 dd's were 3 and 2 weeks overdue so I'm not holding my breath. Have spent the weekend washing vests and sleepsuits and pramcovers and slings and have also decided that I should probably stop eating as none of my maternity clothes are fitting properly any more. Can I justify new ones with 4 weeks to go?? I shouldn't complain though because apart from mid-afternoon narcolepsy, I'm having a pretty easy ride at the moment. My sympathies to those swollen of foot and anyone still having to engage their brain for a living.

Desparately willing nesting instincts to kick in as home looks like a bombsite, will need all the rest of time left just to get everything clean. Haven't packed hospital bag...should I have?...

littlemisspiggy · 25/04/2006 15:22

Don't say that Louismummy!

momamia · 25/04/2006 16:27

I'm hoping she will come early, does it mean anything that i'm having a girl and they don't tend to be as lazy as boys??

runtus · 25/04/2006 16:55

Hi all, just back from Docs with the reassurance that it doesn't look like Pre-eclamopsia at this stage. BP has risen slightly and agreed i am swollen but hiping it is just the last stages of Pregnancy rather than anything more sinister.

Have another appointment booked with him next Tueaday so if nothing else happens between now and then, just take it easy and try and get my feet up...........I have told work I won;t be travelling anymore and they have agreed I can continue from home for the final 4 weeks. Will have to go in on the 5th for final meetings and to collect some stuff (plus pressie hopefully!) but that will be it.

Feels nice to know I have only 1 more day to get through!

CMac · 25/04/2006 17:17

Bubbles - my dd was breech and they attempted a 'turn' at 37/38 weeks. I was monitored for half an hour first and I was also scanned to check her exact position (and to make sure the cord wasn't in the way etc). In my case dd's legs were acting as a sort of brace which meant that the chances of it working weren't great. They tried anyway but only gave one (fairly hefty!) push and didn't persevere when it didn't work. From what the consultant said if it's going to work they know pretty quickly so they don't keep at it if nothing's happening. They monitor you for another half hour afterwards too just to make sure everything's still okay in there... Sorry it's not a success story but it really wasn't sore or anything so nothing to worry about from that point of view. Hope yours works! I'm due on 18th but this baby is breech too (must have a comfier uterus that way round or something!) but they won't try and turn this one as I've had a previous section and it might put too much strain on the scar. So unless it does some serious acrobatics in the next week or so I'll be booked in for another section at 39 weeks.
Good luck - hope it works!

sniff · 25/04/2006 19:32

Cmac my baby is breech to amd doesnt seem to want to turn so this turning by the consultant thing isnt painfull then because I am quite nervous about that to be honest

CMac · 25/04/2006 21:37

Sniff - no it wasn't sore, though I have to say I was quite surprised at how firmly they pushed. Not sure what I expected but guess I thought it would have been a more gently gently approach! So I was quite glad that they stopped when they did, but more because I was worried about the effect they were maybe having on the baby than because of pain or real discomfort (but as I said before they do monitor you afterwards too so there's nothing to worry about on that score either, but it's hard not to think of that when someone's shoving away at the bump you've protected so vigilently for all those months!!). Of course as mine didn't actually work I can't speak for what it feels like if it does work. Maybe someone else will be able to answer that...
Have you been doing all the bizarre exercises they recommend to encourage turning? I did last time but am letting fate decide this time - really not sure I'd manage to get back up at moment if I got into any of the positions! The other thing my midwife told me about was a kind of a "stick" (can't remember name) you get from chinese herbalists (Dr Herbs type places). it sounded like a giant incense stick that you light and leave to burn adjacent to a certain part of your foot!! Sounds bizarre but my midwife swears by it (and she seems a pretty down to earth type normally!) - says she's had really high success rates with it so might be worth a shot - you never know!

runtus · 26/04/2006 06:23

Is anyone else struggling to sleep?? I finally managed to get off to a good nights sleep last night (first time in days) only to be woken up by DH at 5 and now can't sleep again.........arggh

Bouj · 26/04/2006 07:25

Yep, sleep is elusive by this stage. Horrible, because you know you need to get as much sleep now as possible!! Only 3 days till the first of my due dates. Saw obst this morning, he said I am still a while off. Luckily he is working from 5th May being my due date but has given me an induction date nonetheless. So by hook or by crook, come 15th May I will have a baby! Desperate not to be induced though, first induction was horrific. Will be calling on collective mn wisdom and vibes to get this baby out before then!

tortoiseshell · 26/04/2006 09:11

Bouj - if all is well then you really don't have to have an induction - you may want one if you're still being sick - but they can monitor you daily for half an hour to check baby is ok. I went 14 days over with dd (and in our area 12 days is the induction cut off date) but they were happy with this. In fact my mw has delivered a homebirth at 3 weeks over.

Seashells · 26/04/2006 09:14

Congratulations Abi and Hockeymum. Wishing you both a swift recovery. :)

And sending positive thoughts for all of you who's babies are still breech, hoping they all turn in time. :)

I just can't sleep lately. I was at Tesco's at 4am this morning! Was getting really painful BH all night last night, but yet again, nothing came of them :( I blame the raspberry leaf tea I started drinking yesterday! I'm 39+2 now and just want this baby today, I'm scared to go any longer as it's expected to be much bigger than the last 2 and I'm scared I won't be able to get it out if it gets any bigger!

I made the misake of getting weighed yesterday too :( I've put on 3st! And what is most worrying is my arms and legs are skinnier than before I was pg, it's all bump...how big is this baby!? Shock

Bouj · 26/04/2006 09:36

Thanks tortiseshell. Ds's birth was just one many contributing factors to PND, and I really think the whole traumatic experience effected him badly. But, saying that, I was always unsure of my dates with him (found out late and didn't have a scan until 20 weeks) and always felt he wasn't ready. This time, I am very sure of my dates so baby will be readier. Obst did offer to induce next week and part of me really wanted to! He is concerned about my still being sick and lack of weight gain (have lost a bit over the last couple of weeks) but baby is doing very well. Oh, hope we all go soon - the last few days are by far the hardest!

runtus · 26/04/2006 10:17

Yep me too - was in Sainsburys for 7am this morning doing thw weekly shop. Quite pleasant at that time actually but would rather have been snoring in bed........

momamia · 26/04/2006 11:46

Hi ladies,

I'm having a tough time sleeping at the moment, finding it an effort to keep getting in and out of bed to go to the toilet.

I hop all your breech babies turn very soon!!

:)

supersonic · 26/04/2006 13:46

Hi all,

CAn realte to the lack of sleep I find that I can often get to sleep but if I wake around 4 - 5ish (when partner goes to work)then it takes me ages to go back off its as if I start thinnking of things I have to be doing - I can't get comfortable complete nightmare!
I was wondering if there was already a thread somewhere offering advice/tipd on how best to deal with a new baby and an older sibling (my DD is nearly 5)i.e do you buy presents from each of them to give etc. coming home and spending time with DD1 my firend whose baby is now 3 months has decided she went completely wrong and gave her older DD so much attention to begin with that now her behaviour is the worst it has ever been whether this is down to the new born who knows so I woudl love to hear from anyone who has advice or helpful tips please this is eomthing that is really worrying so if someone could help that would be great!

runtus · 26/04/2006 13:53

No direct exp supersonic but I did post that question on behalf of my best friend a couple of months back as it happens. Got loads of good advice about making sure the older sibling feels part of thw whole experience. I'll try and find the thread for you hang on...........

supersonic · 26/04/2006 13:56

thanks runtus I've been looking but just cannot find anything!

runtus · 26/04/2006 13:59
