OP posts:
backwardpossom · 04/09/2012 18:45

Did you mean to put my name in your post, MrsRigby?

Em2010 · 04/09/2012 18:57

Evening All, another happy scan day! Am in a bit of a rush as want to get ds in bed before bake off starts so apologies for lack of proper name checks.

Little known secret ladies- get a tiny tube of lasinoh (sp?) for the hospital and then you can get big ole tubes of it on prescription from the gp! Essential stuff even if you're expressing (as I had to).

mrsR I just won't think mrs perfect is perfect at all unless she does special mummy party bags which include mini-bottles of clarins hand creams and juicy tubes...

tramp I had a lovely book on birth - it was by ina may- I can't remember the name but it's very well known and very soothing, even if you don't want, or don't end up having a low-intervention birth it's well worth a read.

Right! Better go and get ds in the bath! Ttfn!

Em2010 · 04/09/2012 18:58

Oh yes, before I go, I remember!! jojo you mentioned a ex-catalogue shop in York! Where is this wondrous place????

zoeymlucas · 04/09/2012 19:10

mrsrigby I like you have an un natural obsession with free stuff regards ifs it needed or even useful, lol! In the bounty packs were DS I kept getting cans of appletiser which when sat in the hospital waiting room cheered me up, one week I got a can of caffeine free diet coke- I was gutted! In our hospital waiting room then have a massive bin of bounty packs with the card attached and ur take one, fill in the well pretend too then post it in the slot before u leave so when there nearly every week I couldn't resist!
I have even joined clubs to my mums address under maiden name for freebies, lol! My fav is my cow and gate cow teddy bear :) hipp sent a nice orange elephant snuggly though.

scubastevie · 04/09/2012 19:12

Congrats rainbow and gummi so pleased for you. Just the best feeling.

Emus · 04/09/2012 19:29

I haven't bothered picking up the Bounty Pack as my friend said it was rubbish but maybe she meant something else that's free or I'm getting confused (which is probably more accurate!). I was also worried about turning up at Argos flapping my voucher around to be told they don't do it or have any!

I also love crocheting. Have got a blanket on the go at the moment (started before I got up-the-duff) and one that I made a few months ago that I decided to keep for myself! Can't wait to find out the sex of this bean then I can make a customised one :-)

JoJoBella84 · 04/09/2012 19:58

I picked up the Emma's Diary packs, both the pregnancy one and the mum to be one (27weeks but they didn't question me) and was really disappointed with my freebie selection, I guess I was hoping for more baby related freebies. Not free samples of wash powder and a tea bag.
Probably why the mini sudocrem in the bounty pack made me so happy... I can put it in my hospital bag!!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 04/09/2012 20:06

Just catching up but just wanted to say, bounty is, excuse my language, a pile of shite. Only sign up to them if you want to be inundated with junk mail and unsolicited calls for the rest of your life. In our hospital, they also come round to see you in the post delivery ward and try to get your details and also flog you some rubbish overpriced photos of your newborn. Have also heard stories that they say your child benefit form is in their pack and that if you don't have the bounty pack, you won't get the necessary paperwork for your child benefit registration. Total bollocks.

As you can tell, I'm not their biggest fanGrinGrin

theTramp · 04/09/2012 20:37

Ethel - that is pretty unethical of them. You can report them for that you know. They would get a pretty hefty slap on the wrist.

new home owners and new Mums are the holy grail of data for direct marketers. You would not believe how valuable your data is to them. If they paid you a grand, it would be a small fraction of how valuable all your data is. Basically, once they have a new Mum at birth they have you for the whole of the rest of your chids life and the mapping that they do based on your spending habits is incredibly (frighteningly) accurate. Hence the Supermarkets LOVE to give new Mums free stuff. You are their cash cow, in every sense of the word. I veered off of direct marketing in favour of marketing comms, but the nerdy me gets all excited when I start to see the sort of data that the supermarkets talk about recieving thanks to giving a new Mum a packet of free nappies. Its marketing gold so it is.

Sorry, I am rambling. Am still knee deep in this paper I must finish tonight and may be a little high on a combination of coconut crumbles and panda liquorice bears (mmmmmmmmmmmm) munching. I don't usually od on quite so much sugar.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 04/09/2012 20:59

Congrats rainbow and gummi. Just posting at same time as watching 'bake off' so my concentration may be elsewhere.

Agree on the lanisoh, it was a godsend in those early days where you are struggling to get feeding established.

Jojo like em I am intrigued to know where this furniture catalogue shop is in York. Do tell! (have gone all Enid blyton..) Grin

I am waiting to have a proper chat with my MW on birthing options at my next appt (if all goes well at scan.) had an assisted delivery and retained placenta last time. MW said there's a good chance I will have retained products again, so if I do, I will end up having a spinal block. If that's the case I am wondering whether I should just go for an epi once I'm in established labour. Last time I laboured in water with just g&a, but was totally knackered, hence the reason I think, I needed an assisted delivery. I sort of think what's the point in going through all that if I am going to end up with spinal anyway... Any advice ladies?

Off back to ogle Paul Hollywood the lovely meringues.. Wink

JoJoBella84 · 04/09/2012 21:02

Ah sorry ethel and em it's actually in Hull - hessle road. I grew up in hull and when I bought my first house it was a life saver!!!

OodHousekeeping · 04/09/2012 21:11

Freebie hunters check out mama packs, there's none in my area but might be in civilisation!

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 21:16

Sorry backwardpossom I didn't mean that to come across as me accusing you of anything. I was just mentioning about Sudocream/sore bum and what I'd discovered as you mentioned it and I was just referring to your post.

Rereading that it sounded very accusatory. Sorry Blush

FloweryBoots · 04/09/2012 21:17

I'm feeling jelous now, I've not got a bounty pack, or a voucher, or had it mentioned at all, or an Emma's thing what ever that was that someone mentioned. Got 2 different bounty packs with DS and think I registered - I get emails sometimes but nothing by phone or post. I remember getting a full size bottle of comfort fabirc conditioner in one pack last time. Better than a tea bag! Grin.

Told work today about being pregnant, not a comfortable conversation! Somehow I seemed to either lead my boss to believe or agreed with him that this pregnancy was unexpected. It was nothing of the sort so I'm not sure how I did that! Suppose being thought to be a bit careless with contraception is perhaps better than him realising I had every intetnion of getting pregnant and leaving pretty sharpish when I took the job. Hmm.

Great news on today's scans. Lots of happy scans, yay!

Re births, whoever was asking (sorry to may posts to read to remember who said what). My DH says he would rather I had a CS, but I think deep down he realises that a vigianl birth is better really. I had assisted delivery with DS and only didn't have CS because there was no surgery free so it did get pretty hairy - they said the baby's heart wouldn't be beating when it was born and had the crash cart ready and waiting, but actually DS was fine. MW has said I am low risk and offered home birth (Which I've not taken up) but has arranged for me to have an appointment with consultant to go through DS birth and the notes for my benefit as I had a few flash backs again when we started trying and I never had the debrief I as offered after DS birth - regret that now!

Someone mentioned the burn at crowning, maybe I was just so terrified I didn't notice, but I didn't feel it. I did have some local for an episiotimy so that could have masked it, though when they started the stitching on the opposite side afterwatds it certainly didn't help! Owch. I'd only had Gas and Air and hadn't had that for a good while by point of crowning.

Oh goodness, I don't want to push for 4 hours again this time! My Mum, bless her, reminded me she had a tough time with my older sister (her first) and my older brother was an hour old before the midwife got to them (planned home birth, and addmittedly MW on push cycle got stuck in snow, but even so, he came pretty quickly and without problem).

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 21:21

em2010 I have so many trial sizes of Clarins products that I could actually do this - ha, I could one up the bitch. Party bag with a small bottle of wine, chocolate and some Clarins goodies.

In fact, I might make myself a party bag tonight Blush

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 21:26

zoeymlucas I got a caffiene free coke in my last Bounty bag last pregnancy Grin

I've joined the mums clubs too and then unjoined them so that this time I could join again and therefore claim all the free stuff Grin Grin Grin

Hipp and Pampers are really good.

backwardpossom · 04/09/2012 21:26

No no, MrsR was just wondering if you meant someone else! DS never had any bother with nappy rash, so our sample tubs of sudocrem are pretty much intact from 3 years ago!! :)

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 21:31

emus don't worry about turning up flapping your card only to be turned away, I've done this loads - clearly I have no shame Grin

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 21:35

JoJoBella84 that settles it, I'm going to get my second Emma's diary bag this weekend. Emma's diary isn't as good as Bounty, but when it's free I can't resist not getting the bags.

Rainbowbabyhope · 04/09/2012 21:40

Tramp I inject my heparin in my tummy and it really is so so much better than thighs. It did feel odd injecting close to LO at the beginning but in actual fact at this stage of pregnancy uterus is only just coming above the pelvis bone and you can inject much higher so miles away from baby. I have a system with DH where I do the pinching and he injects. We stick to areas on each side, a least 5 cm away from belly button at that level or higher. Sometimes it hurts more than others but in terms of long term bruising and pain, its much better than thighs and much less sore. My midwife has suggested I move down to the fatty part of my thighs under the bottom later in pregnancy if my tummy gets to tight to pinch enough.

Rainbowbabyhope · 04/09/2012 21:42

Apologies, my last message was meant for MrsRigby!

FloweryBoots · 04/09/2012 21:50

MrsRigby Please make us all one of your Mum party bags.

you sound flippin perfect compared to me by the way!

pipsicles · 04/09/2012 21:57

Evening all!

I've been AWOL a couple of days because we've been away at the weekend and then I was back to work today :( It was a hard day, as some of my good friends left at the ends the summer term and I was feeling a bit lonely without them, but it was (fingers crossed!) my last first day. I told my Headteacher about the pregnancy today too, and she responded surprisingly well, which I was pleased about. I do feel for my friend though, who is about 10days or so behind me and will be having the same conversation with her in a couple of weeks - I was lucky I got to do it first!

Now I'm back at work, life will probably be a lot more hectic and I don't suppose I'll have much chance to keep up with you all in these first few weeks back, but it doesn't mean I won't be checking in and trying to keep up with you all!

I'm definitely at the 'fat or pregnant?' stage at the moment!

I hope you're all doing well and that nausea and sickness is finally wearing off!

theTramp · 04/09/2012 22:12

Em - thanks for book advice by the way, I will look it up.

Pips - evenin'

confuddledDOTcom · 04/09/2012 22:18

tramp, there are definitely some good people out there who can help. There are specialist counsellors/ hypnotherapists, doulas and even talking to an SoM can sometimes help. It's definitely worth addressing now rather than taking something into the delivery with you. Em is talking about Ina May's Guide to CHildbirth and I highly recommend it too. I read it for my Doula course and loved it!

Jojo, Lansinoh is the only one you can leave on, it's safe and pretty tasteless (you can use it as lip balm if you want to find out what it's like - not to mention eczema, psoriasis, nappy rash...) so most babies don't notice. I'm a professional rep for Lansinoh so I get masses of samples for them every couple of months if anyone wants one and I can also get discounts on their supplies. BTW that doesn't mean I work for them, just that I work in the birth industry and registered with them so I can buy their stuff cheap.

Zoey, people who haven't been there don't understand, especially with the GA and premature birth. The chances of something going wrong are slim, I can't go in stirrups either and there are ways around it -they have to and can deal with it! I had a look at my friend's profile after I posted here and some of her births were at home, they can handle whatever you choose. Really would recommend an SoM, they tend to get these things better.

I'm another who likes freebies and yes, I've done the two addresses/ two names thing too. I'm not legally married (despite this being a honeymoon baby) so for anything unofficial I am Mrs B and anything official I am Miss H and sometimes I decide what I feel like being today.

MrsR, you need some cotton balls, they don't usually let you use wipes in hospital. Is it the idea of injecting into your belly that is stopping you? I can understand that, it took me until this time to use it regularly and I didn't until I had a previous section and a lovely flap of skin to use. But there is loads of space, you're not going anywhere near the baby and if you're in this much pain now it won't get easier - in fact I can't use my legs any more because of previous pregnancies! Doing your own bum isn't that hard either, not once you get the hang of it. Mine is also out of the question now because it's been done too many times before.

I've never had junk email/ mail/ texts/ calls from Bounty. I have pictures of the last two (my youngest won the national Bounty picture of the week competition Grin) from Bounty too. The forms are in the pack, but it's not the only way to get them. There are two in hospital that don't need you to fill anything in for and are usually useful. When I've had sections the MWA has opened the labour pack and used it to help me wash.
