Ah - so I should add nipple cream to list then. It's getting to be a bloody long list!

theTramp · 04/09/2012 16:23

Hurrah rainbow!

sundaesundae · 04/09/2012 16:31

Great news rainbow!

Sheldonella · 04/09/2012 16:32

Lovely news rainbow :)

zoeymlucas · 04/09/2012 16:32

Dont forget paper pants on your list tramp look funny as but are so useful and a god send in the first days and if you have a c section get the size up so they rest near your belly button so no rubbing at all, lol!

zoeymlucas · 04/09/2012 16:33

Great new Rainbow congrats

Emus · 04/09/2012 16:42

Hi ladies. Haven't had time to catch up on all the posts today but I will at some point this evening. Grin

Just popped on to ask how long you had to wait for your Downs letter? I had my scan and bloods last Friday morning (31st). My scan date letter said I'll get the results 14 days after the test which seems quite long. It also said if there was a problem I would get a call in 3-4 days.

We are telling our parents on Sat and everyone else including work next week (we've only told five people between us including my mum) so I wanted to know before then if poss. Did any of you get told it would be 14 days but was much shorter?

Ta, Emu x

sarahs999 · 04/09/2012 16:46

Emus, you're not at Lewisham are you? I'm still waiting for my scan letter and I had the scan on 31 too. I emailed my consultant and asked her to sneak a peak which is how i got my numbers early. I think it's disgraceful how long they take to send out a simple letter that any work experience person could bash out in 10 minutes. It's not like it's a standard run of the mill thing, it's stuff peple make life or death decisions on!

But I think you can be assured that if you've had no phonecall you're not high risk.

Sheldonella · 04/09/2012 16:46

Emus I was told 4-6 days but it turned up in 2 working days. It could well be quicker than 14.

confuddledDOTcom · 04/09/2012 16:48

Zoey, you describe my situation so much Sad my suggestion to you is to call triage and ask to speak to a Supervisor of Midwives. Tell her that you really want a VB, you don't want to go through the whole GA thing and not have to see your clean, dressed baby for hours (can you tell I've done that?) and she should help you. I have the highest risk scar and they were fantastic about it. The other thing if you're able is to get a Doula. Your husband is wrong, there's nothing silly about how you're feeling, it's natural. I was terrified of it going like that again, it's not just about a healthy baby at the end of it. The way I saw it a (reasonably when you're talking about a preemie) healthy baby with a healthy birth was the best outcome, if the healthy VB wasn't possible at least we know we tried and she got the best birth possible.

tramp, I think many of the people who are planning ahead are the ones who've had issues in the past that have to be dealt with or complicated pregnancies that need to be thought about. There's nothing wrong with being prepared though, see if your hospital do classes or if you have a local NCT class. Also worth reading everything you can about decisions you need to make. Your hand held notes have a tick box type birth plan in them so if you go through that and see what you can find out about each thing, see what's important to you, what's not so etc.

No problem Em Smile doctors just like us to think they know everything and be in awe of them Wink About the epidural, it's best if you try and work up to them, try TENS, water or G&A first because if you get an epidural too early you have nothing else to try later, you won't feel contractions so they will have to increase the drip and the baby isn't anaesthetised so they are feeling the stronger contractions and often end up in distress so you have to go to an section. I have to admit I either didn't feel the burn or don't remember it. Because of my scar type and health problems I'm only allowed G&A for pain relief.

What I would say about Aspirin is whilst all women would benefit from taking it, don't do it without telling your doctor because it's a blood thinner and it might seem like a small dose but that small dose stops me from having TIAs and millions of people from having heart attacks and strokes, it is powerful taken regularly! Also you need to know things like cranberries are also blood thinners so you shouldn't eat them whilst taking it and that if it's not EC it can burn your stomach and an ulcer is not what you need in pregnancy... lots of stuff that you should discuss with your doctor.

ThreeForTea there's nothing wrong with men expressing their opinion but at the end of the day it's mum that either has to push the baby out or put her body on an operating table, not them! I know my husband wasn't thrilled with me having a VBAC because of the "high" risk factor, he didn't hide that from me but accepted that it is my decision. Unfortunately he hadn't dealt with it properly before the birth and got freaked out by some nasty staff. This time I'm insisting he does come to antenatal classes with me and he does meet with the Doula!

MrsR, you really need to try your belly or bottom. They hurt much less than the legs!

backwardpossum, call your CMW and see if she wants to see you earlier.

I'm going to make myself look sad now - only because my Dad taught it to my eldest... fly, spider, bird (how absurd), cat (fancy that), dog (what a hog), goat (she opened her throat), horse (she's dead, of course)

I'd better see what's been x-posted with lol

ThreeForTea · 04/09/2012 16:54

I had the nipple cream, it didn't help me! in the end I used nivea lip balm! So much moisturising to think about when you start to have a baby!

ThreeForTea · 04/09/2012 16:55

Ah, good news Rainbow!

zoeymlucas · 04/09/2012 16:58

Confuddled I havent given up yet and am hoping if I get to about 34 weeks and am in good health I could maybe push my point a bit more? Both consultant and physio said no way to VB due to hypermobility which has messed my back pelvis joints and dual hip replacements. Both CS meand GA which I really dont want as last time family come to visit and all saw my baby before I did and it was awful for me and DH had to take them to special care to get access for them. I always drop my blood pressure after GA so couldnt go to special care till like 9 at night - he was born at 1 in afternoon and while there took ill and was rushed back and wasnt allowed the next day at all.
I am going to make sure people consider it and dont just dimiss it

confuddledDOTcom · 04/09/2012 17:16

Sounds so familiar! I don't do GAs well and I always felt like the gatekeeper, I was glad that the rules changed after my eldest. I have a friend who has severe HMS and is a Doula, I can ask her about her births if you want or I'm sure she'd be willing to talk to you. She's got 5 children under 6 years and all VB. I don't have HMS but do suffer from long-term PGP, my physio told me that a VB is far better because it keeps the muscles you want to pull you back together intact - obviously the first time I had no choice, it was a crash situation, which is what I meant about the healthiest birth for the situation.

I was told right from the first section I was not a candidate for VBAC but when it came down to it they were really positive about it and supportive.

GummiberryJuice · 04/09/2012 17:46

Yey rainbow I knew there was someone else today

Well one little dancing bean here, measuring just under 12 weeks so matches my longer period so new edd of 21.03

Ood I'm so pleased you're haitch I thought we had lost you off thread

Will catch up later need to feed everyone and stop looking through my notes and scans Grin

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 17:52

We've made it into 'most active' again Grin

theTramp · 04/09/2012 17:53

Confud - thanks for advice. I should perhaps disclose my HUGE issue re giving birth. This precludes all fictional & real depictions thereof without being squeamish slightly sicky and altogether revolted. As previously mentioned I lasted about 30 seconds into the credits o the MW programme. I've been reading as much as I can and it's reassuring me that I'm best off putting head in sand & just dealing on the day - so to speak. Or there's hypnosis. I'm usually a v calm, practical and logical person. On this issue - think John Hurt alien and you're at the kittens & cuddles area of my brains view point.

Sarah - lewisham, snap!

theTramp · 04/09/2012 17:54

Gummy - hurrah!!!!!!

ThreeForTea · 04/09/2012 18:21

Great news Gummi!

JoJoBella84 · 04/09/2012 18:22

rainbow and gummy congrats to you both :) four days less worrying is good rainbow! Focus on whatever little positives you can.

True to her word my MW called me this evening even though there wasn't really much she could tell me it's nice to know I haven't been 'lost in the system'. Basically she called the obstetrics dept and spoke to a doctor there who know nothing of my case (which isn't unusual as everyone has their own case load), but they were able to confirm my notes were on the secretary's desk which would indicate I'll get a letter in the next few days. If I hear nothing by Friday I'm to call the MW again and she'll chase it up :)
Re the nipple cream conversation... Does it taste weird to baby?? I'm thinking of getting some early tbh as my nipples are tender and feel dry (tmi?) I don't want to make baby unwell though!!!

backwardpossom · 04/09/2012 18:31

Some creams you have to wipe off, but lansinoh is fine. It's brilliant stuff!

backwardpossom · 04/09/2012 18:33

Although I'd maybe just use a simple moisturiser for now - lansinoh is probably more for when you're actually bfing. It's basically very thick, very sticky gel that you put on to heal/protect your nips. I've used it for cuts and things too and when DH had really badly cracked hands when working outside in the winter, it cleared them up within a couple of days.

Emus · 04/09/2012 18:36

Thanks for the quick replies Sarah and Sheld. I'm not where you are, I'm in Basingstoke (well, that's my local hospital anyway!).

I might give them a call on Thursday or Friday then. I know they were sending my blood works straight to the lab so hopefully it should be ok. I'm 35 and first baby so slightly anxious about everything!

Oh, and on the house situation, just had a call to say the house our house is Under Offer and it only been on the market for 4 days! We have part exchanged so this is good for us as it means (hopefully) no more viewings so we an get on and be messy and pack without that added stress! Am feeling strangely sad though as I have loved living here. It's my home!! I get farrrrr too attached to things. I remember when my dad sold his Ford Cortina for a brand new shiney Ford Orion back in the 90's I cried and didn't want to go in it for a few days!! Perhaps I've always been strange... :-p

zoeymlucas · 04/09/2012 18:39

confuddled it's so nice to have someone who understands why I want a vb - everything thinks a CS is the easy option after all the to posh to push stuff!! With HMS you skin is also different which explains the 3rd degree tearing with DS1 who weighed 2lb!
I am going to really talk to consultant and any advice is gratefully received- from previous sons notes it seems they are more worried about something going wrong as I can't be put in stirrups etc

MrsRigby · 04/09/2012 18:39

Regarding knitting etc - I am very good at cross stitch. However, I still haven't finished DS1 or DS2 birth sampler Hmm

JoJoBella84 if ever there was a post that belonged in AIBU it's your 'AIBU for being this excited over my first bag of Bounty freebies'. My response to the original poster would be YANBU. I am the crazy woman who has gone around every Boots and Superdrug in Liverpool trying to get my hands on one - I am not joking, though DH though I was when I asked him to drive me to a 5th Boots in one day. He drew the line at 6 Boots and a Superdrug. I STILL HAVEN'T GOT MY FIRST BOUNTY BAG Sad Sad Sad

DH finds my love of freebies both sad and hysterically funny. I don't know whats wrong with me or how it started. Even if I can't or won't use it, I still have to have it because it's free. Case in point, The Liverpool Food and Drink Festival. Went at the weekend as I do every year and got a goody bag which was filled up in seconds with freebies. Most of which I cannot use as they are not suitable for vegetarians, but because they were free I had to have them. It's the same with Clarins, I hold off buying stuff until I see a good offer and then I buy in bulk to get the mother load of free stuff off them. This is why I have 6 bottles of Clarins parfum in my bathroom cabinet (yes, I have my own bathroom) that I will never use as I don't wear perfum.

Anyway, whilst I await my Bounty bag (I'll check a the Boots and Superdrug near where I work tomorrow) I spend my day's lovingly looking at the freebies care of Emma's Diary and ASDA. So far, I have:

Tommy's pregnancy book;
Folic Acid;
ASDA nappy;
ASDA wipes;
Nursing pads;
Sachet of Palmers skin therapy oil;
Sachet of Palmers cocoa butter formular;
Bottle of Palmers massage lotion for stretch marks;
Bag of blackcurrant flakes (oh okay, I've already eaten them).

My addition to the AIBU thread would be, 'AIBU to pick up my second Emma's Diary bag from Argos given that your supposed to pick them up at 20 something weeks and I am only 11?' I've prepared myself for a flaming.

zoeymlucas I cannot put into words just how jealous of your 15 Bounty bags I am, therefore I am relying on Mumsnet smiley's to convey just how I feel Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy and possibly even a Biscuit

Cow.

The party Mrs Pefect is throwing on Saturday for her DS2 4th birthday - I better get a sodding party bag.

backwardpossom and sheldonella you don't give them your phone number (tip number 1 from the Queen of freebie grabbing, though I'm starting to feel a little insecure that zoeymlucas might have stolen my crown).

Also backwardpossom if you clean your baby's bum frequently then they don't get a sore bum that needs Sudocream. At home I change DS2 nappy probably 10 times a day, he never has a sore bum and he never needs Sudocream. However, nursery only change him twice and he always comes home with a very sore red bum and covered in Sudocream.

Furthermore on the subject of Bounty bags, if I were to miscarry tomorrow I think I would still go and get the Bounty bag Blush

Great news by the way Rainbowbabyhope.

confuddledDOTcom I've been told to inject in my tummy as there is more han enough fat there to cope with the injections (not anywhere else though, bloody PCOS), but being pregnant I can't. I know lots of women do whilst pregnant and everything is fine, but I just can't. DH has offered to do my bum (sounds a bit rude) but I know thats because the bastard wants to pretend he's playing darts.

Great news gummiberryjuice.

Right, okay I've left it for long enough now - can anyone feel the baby move yet? I started feeling bunny move a week and a bit ago Grin
