Rainbow, do you test prick? I find if I gently press on I can find a good spot that's not going to hurt too much. If it hurts when you're gentle it'll hurt more going in.

Em2010 · 04/09/2012 22:50

Off to bed now I think, shouldn't complain with what some of you are going through but my back and legs are absolutely killing me tonight!!!

emus congratulations on the house offer. Not long to go and you'll be all settled in the new place ready for baby to arrive.

jojo ooh you're a hull girl! So am I! Might have to venture over to visit this shop, haven't been back for ages!!! Ds was born at the women's and children's hospital so he's a hull boy too. Dh and I used to live there and I would happily go back but dh says he'd rather chew his own arm off / jump in the Humber.... Snob....

ethelred did you have dd at YDH? Were they ok? I'm a bit nervous about going there this time but I've heard good reports.

confuddled did you train to be a doula then?! Must have been so interesting!

Hello to everyone else! Sorry for not name checking more tonight, am blaming sore legs for hampering my concentration and getting myself to bed! Night All !

Lexiindisguise · 04/09/2012 23:10

Another order for a MrsRigby party bag here please! Grin
Been quiet tonight as have been staring at crochet until my eyes have gone funny! Produced some different stitches & turned round for new rows but it is all a bit wonky & holey. Can't for the life of me work out the bloody granny square! Blush still am sure it will come with practice!

ThreeForTea · 04/09/2012 23:37

The labour pack, with a free drink? How did I miss that one? Do you not get it if you go to the day unit for a stretch and sweep and end up with a section half an hour later? Grin

confuddled and zoey, thanks for sharing your stories, I hope you both have such a different and better experience this time round.

lexi I've been doing crochet this eve too, snao

ThreeForTea · 04/09/2012 23:42

(why do I constantly do that??) ..snap! I'm making a blanket for my friend who's having a boy in Jan. I was crocheting while watching Die Hard 4.0 with dh, felt like a bit of an old lady tbh, but they just turn out so nice, and so fun to do!

confuddledDOTcom · 05/09/2012 01:07

I have Em Smile I love it but having babies since has slowed me down.

I've never seen a labour pack with a free drink, Three, I've always had one though, even with a section and GA Grin

theTramp · 05/09/2012 08:13

Morning - anyone scanning today?

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 05/09/2012 08:47

em yeah, they were very good. Very supportive. I actually wrote a letter of thanks to them afterwards, I was so impressed (must have been post delivery delerium!)

Will catch up later all, just got to work.

theTramp · 05/09/2012 08:55

ARGH - request before I went to bed last night - please turn on dishwasher when wash machine has finished so kitchen doesn't stink of sardines in the morning. Did he do it?! Did he buggery shite and the kitchen reeks of vile stinky fish. ARGH!

pipsicles · 05/09/2012 09:12

Confudled I am really interested to hear that you are a doula. Did you originally train as one and always do it as your job, or did you enter into it after doing something else? I am a teacher and absolutely love working with people and helping them achieve something new, but I hate all the stress and pressure that I am under and the fact that it takes over my life when all I really want to do is be able to concentrate on being a mum. I'm not work shy at all, but I find teaching one of those jobs where everything is expected of you, and you rarely get recognition or appreciation for what you do, which is so demotivating. I'm in two minds about whether it is just my school (very possible) and therefore I just need to change schools, or whether I would benefit from a change in career. I am keen on entering into something to do with pregnancy/early motherhood, particularly after my experiences breast feeding and my seven bouts of mastitis in the first four months. I initially wanted to retrain as a midwife, but when I realised that involves a whole new degree etc, I realised thAt it is out of the question, at least for the time being, mainly because of the expense and time without any income. Whatever I do decide, I'd really like to be working closely with people who want or need my help. Do you have any advice on your experiences that you'd be willing to share?

Those of you crocheting, is it relatively easy? I can knit easy patterns in little squares, but haven't quite plucked up the courage to start an actual item of clothing, although I have bought a pattern for a jumper for DS. Is crocheting as easy as knitting?

Lovely sunny weather here today, but that autumnal chill is starting to set in in the mornings and evenings...

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 09:17

Tramp - I'd kill him!!!!!

Anyone taking floradix? I am crushingly tired and really struggling at the mo and wonder if some iron might help. if people have taken it, is it a magic bullet?

I haven't crocheted in years, but there was a magazine ad for it and it has piqued my interest. I haven't finished knitting last years scarf, I need to get on with that one!

Is anyone doing pelvic floors? How many are you supposed to do??

TeaOperated · 05/09/2012 09:24

Hello ladies, I've been lurking for a while but I think it's time to introduce myself. I wasn't going to post until after my 12 week scan out of superstition ... but it's in three hours and 19 minutes (not that I'm counting) (plus waiting time!) and I'm just too stupidly nervous to keep quiet.

Working from home this morning because my boss is wonderful and understands, and must concentrate, but..... AGRH! In three hours and 19 16 minutes I find out if there's really a baby in there or if I'm making it all up. Although if I've been imaging nausea, sore boobs, exhaustion etc, I don't much like my imagination!

Anyone else scanning today?

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 09:28

Welcome tea! My proper 12 week scan is a week today, I feel like the last! I did get scanned last week, but my dates were 10 days out.

I think we all understand the nerves / disbelief, I cried before the sonographer even touched me, and I may well be the same next week!

Good luck today, come back and tell us about your wriggly bean!

zoeymlucas · 05/09/2012 09:30

Woo hoo am 13 weeks today so am in my 2nd trimester - now just waiting for this burst of energy I have been reading about and to start feeling better it better not be a myth

Right so am totalling going to show my dumbness today but whats the difference between knitting and crochet?
Tramp as someonw ho does not eat any fish I would of killed him for that

MrsRigby your baby bags sound perfect ot me so count me in, lol!

zoeymlucas · 05/09/2012 09:30

I meant party bags!

TeaOperated · 05/09/2012 09:30

Thank you Sundae. In theory I'm fourteen weeks today, but I think I'm bang on 12 actually. Because obviously I know more than the medical professionals!

Good luck for your new 12 week! Nice to know I'm not the only one in a bit of a state - had better put mascara in my handbag, actually. And extra tissues for DH, who will blub much more than me!

theTramp · 05/09/2012 09:36

Sundae - he def diced with death this morning BUT I let him off with a finger waggle.

Tea - oh good luck with scan, mine is Friday & I'm itching to get to it faster

Sundae - I'm taking pregnacare and my iron levels are super good, according to hospital blood tests, but I'm still crushingly exhausted. Def get your iron levels checked but I'm not sure they're sole reason for sleepiness

theTramp · 05/09/2012 09:37

Zoey - I'm not a stinky fish eater either, perhaps part of my sensitivity to the smell

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 09:41

My husbands have always had to eat stinky fish whilst I am away, yuck!! Salmon, tuna or cod is fine.

I'm taking pregnacare most days (taking it after tea means I forget!) and had bloods last week (still have massive bruise!!!!) but not heard anything.

Might try more water or something!

ThreeForTea · 05/09/2012 09:44

Welcome TeaOperated! Hope scan goes well today. Mine was friday, I managed not to cry at that one, but I did blub at my 8 week early scan! Is this your first DC?

Tramp Dh does that with curry pots when he makes one of his specials, so horrible! Ugh. I always feel so sick at any strong smell in the morning, fish might kill me!

tiddleypompom · 05/09/2012 09:50

Morning all - and hello tea, welcome on board and all the best for your scan today...

rainbow and gummi, hooray for jumping beans - enjoy the photos and special happy warm feelings :)

sundae your time will come - not long now! My SiL has her first scan on Monday after her IVF cycle was successful - she is so very nervous. They 'put back' two blastocysts so best result is twins, though after 9 years of trying, she'll be completely over the moon if she is just still pregnant at all.

ethel I am with you on the bounty packs - they made me angry last time, especially the assertive woman on the delivery ward with her pretend pleasantries masking the utterly shitty imposition on vulnerable women. She even woke up one lady on my ward!! I dare her to come near me next time :o

Not a talented knitter here. Happily for DS, both of his grandmothers are, and his auntie is an amazing knitter and seamstress. For DS christening she gave him a beautiful patchwork quilt that she had made from her (and DH's) father's shirts (he died 5 years ago). It was very moving when we opened it, and it is so precious.

Another one who has woken to sunshine here in south Shrops, though the temp outside at 6am was such to put condensation on all the windows. Autumn here we come...

DS and I are off to a coffee morning when he wakes - ooo the glamour. Happy days all :)

ThreeForTea · 05/09/2012 09:53

Pips, I don't know how to knit, my mum and granny were fanatics so that is despite being shown countless times as a child! I find crochet really easy though, though I only ever intend to do square blankets. :)

Sheldonella · 05/09/2012 10:01

Welcome tea and good luck with your scan. I wish I could have another, so exciting.
tramp that can't have been pleasant! I love fish but I don't think I would like the stinky kind at the moment.
zoey I've been in the second trimester over a week now and am still waiting for the energy. Sorry :)
I'm half way through knitting my little cardigan now. The problem is that the knitting book I have makes me weepy when I look at it :) No idea how to crochet - MIL tried to teach me once but I just didn't get it. She probably got a bit frustrated :)
Wearing the IO dress today - lovely.
Good luck to those with scans!

pipsicles · 05/09/2012 10:20

I am awaiting an IO dress too (and some leggings and a tunic that I got off the website with the 35% discount last week! Shhh....don't tell my DH! But am ashamed to say that I am not dressed and still bumming around the house in my PJs - bliss! Esp as it's my day off and all my collegues are working away in boring meetings! Ha! That said, DS is asleep and I am about to break my usual rule of no work on a day off, so had best get cracking!

pipsicles · 05/09/2012 10:22

Oh, and welcome and good luck tea and congratulations to rainbow and gummi and any other scans I've missed these past few days! It's so lovely to have so much good news! :)
