It annoys me when people decide to tell you how hard it is to cope, as if it's a huge burden when it isn't at all!
In fact having a baby made me much more organised, and I clean a lot more too!
Just ignore them. We all find our own ways to cope and I for one think being a mother is such a fantastic gift, and it gets so much easier as the child becomes part of your every day life/routine.

Missmummy your DH is being pretty selfish about this, IMO. Of course you're going to get lots of attention - you're pregnant!!

My DD's dad cheated on me multiple times while DD was tiny, and his reason for it was that he wasn't getting enough attention! I swiftly showed him where the door was. Grin
I'd LOVE it if men had to carry the child and give birth just so they knew what it was like.. Although I do think we'd all be extinct rather quickly if that was the case, haha.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/09/2012 14:51

I find it bizarre that people seem to find it appropriate to tell people about the bad things in life, I've had a lot of "are you mad?" "you'll never cope!" no one saying how lovely it will be to have another person in the family! I find it happens with all aspects of life though and it's very strange.

Lazy day here today, DP was up all night with stomach cramps, he has IBS but won't admit it so I got up at 4am.
I've cleaned the toilet room and done some dishes/paid some bills, not really a lot.

rowingdowntheriver · 01/09/2012 15:45

I'm on the train on my way to a hen do. Am slightly apprehensive about it as at the moment seem to have become a real home body. I'll probably have loads of fun when I get there and might even partake in a small glass of champagne!

tits, my husband suffered from stomach cramps on an off for the last couple of years, they'd keep him up all night vomiting and he'd be in agony. He was checked for things like stomach ulcers an we had started thinking maybe something like IBS until his recent episode. I've never seen someone in so much pain - turns put it was likely to be a grumbling appendix! The appendix been taken out now and he's not has any stomach cramps since so fingers crossed. Just thought I'd mention it incase your DP has something similar.

swiss I was 30 weeks yesterday as well!

I have bought some maternity clothes for work from ebay - very good quality next items which will see me through until I finish work in 8 weeks. Have been ebaying all of DD's clothes and clothes that I have been kidding myself I would one day wear again I no longer wear and built up a decent paypal balance, so using ebay to get some bargains for things for DC2.

Sorry for those having a tough time for whatever reason - in relation to men, I think they, or at least my DH and some others' DPs amongst us, have no idea what a physical process it all is. My DH rolls his eyes when I say I'm tired. He works part time on his feet, and is a part time SAHD. I am sure he is often tired. I work full time, but as I mainly sit (office job), I have no cause for complaints about tiredness. OK then. Nevermind the fact that when I am not at work, am running around after toddler DD, and oh yeah, am growing another human!

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/09/2012 16:04

Is anyone here a member of the NCT? I'm considering joining but not sure it's worth it (I mainly want to do it so I can get in the nearly new sale early!)

tomatoplantproject · 01/09/2012 16:06

Hello everyone. Haven't posted for ages and think I've missed a couple of threads of news cos you're all so chatty!

I am supposed to be packing - we move into our house next weekend and it's so close now I could squeal with excitement. I think I am behind on the baby front though. I have bought one babygro. And that is it Blush

Our plan is once we've moved to buy the minimum for a newborn, and when I start maternity leave my parents will come for a few days and help me stock up on nappies and stuff that isn't quite so urgent. Hopefully the nipper won't come early otherwise it'll be sleeping in a drawer wrapped in a pillowcase for warmth and dh will be locating the nearest 24h tesco!

Hope everyone feeling rotten recovers soon and everyone else enjoys their relaxing weekends

tomatoplantproject · 01/09/2012 16:09

We've joined nct - mainly cos we've moved to a new area in London and I don't know many people who live locally who don't work during the day and so wanted the opportunity to meet people nearby in the same situation once I finish work. Have heard mostly good things about it although to take some of the advice with a pinch of salt.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/09/2012 16:12

rowing thanks for the tip, I don't think it's appendix, it's left sided pain and he has bowel issues with it. He's had 3 major episodes starting at Christmas but suffers much milder bouts of it every 3-4 weeks. I'll keep badgering him about seeing a dr, he does get in really a lot of pain with it. Sad

Dixiebell · 01/09/2012 16:30

If you don't know any other mums nearby, the NCT events are good to meet people. There are various sponsored free tea& cake mornings near me in nice cafes! You don't have to be a member to go to NCT events tho, but do get sent newsletter with details if you are. I wished I'd been able to do the NCT antenatal course with ds although pricey, as lots of people made groups of friends at those.

YellowWellies · 01/09/2012 16:56

Our nearest NCT group is in Aberdeen - 200 miles away. Boo. When we are south in Fife / Edinburgh area again - I'm definitely thinking of joining

StuntNun · 01/09/2012 17:07

Tits it would be worth getting the diagnosis though. I know a couple of people that have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's disease and as soon as they get their diet sorted out the pain stops. Or for other conditions such as ulcerative colitis there are medicines to help. I have IBS and I can't eat raw onions any time but when I have a flare up I can't eat onions, tomatoes, mayonnaise or take any caffeine. But it can be quite hard to work out which foods to avoid. Maybe you should drop hints about bowel cancer statistics, that might get him to the GP pretty quick!

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/09/2012 17:09

Still in two minds about it because it's not my first baby I already know alot of mums through the baby groups I went to with ds. It's not really worth it just to get into the sale early!

ShellyBobbs · 01/09/2012 17:12

Detective Only just logged on so I promise I'll give them a ring tomorrow, I don't have a headache at all with the flashing or any swelling what-so-ever, but appreciate I should really get checked out.

I had a lovely chilled time when camping, but once I set foot back in this house the nesting came back full force. If I say I've only just sat down from 9am this morning I promise I'm not exaggerating, I've cleaned the bathroom 3 times today!! The shed has been sorted, all camping stuff washed, cleaned and put away and all sleeping bags and clothes washed dried and put away, kitchen bleached, I've dusted, hoovered, wiped down all the walls in the living room (WTF?), stripped a wall of wallpaper and tidied our bedroom! Also dropped son and hubby off at City's stadium and will get them later.

Think baby has turned tranverse today as my bump seems to have dropped at the top and I think I can feel it's back at the top, I'm finding driving really hard and uncomfortable at the moment, so not looking forward to Monday at work...

ShellyBobbs · 01/09/2012 17:16

Tits My hubby got diagnosed with IBS a few weeks ago, he's found that a gluten free diet gives him the best relief from pain. As Stunt says it can be hard work and take a long time to find out which foods set him off but it's all trial and error.

pikz · 01/09/2012 17:44

Thank you for all the lovely greetings. I joined nct, the sales are pretty good and I'm hoping to meet some people through it because as lovely as our village is I think I might feel a bit isolated once the baby is born. Am crossing everything my maternity work clothes will get me through the next 7 weeks til work ends. My current stress is what to wear home from hospital/in hospital when baby is born. Any suggestions?

ValiumQueen · 01/09/2012 18:13

shelly visual disturbances are quite common in pregnancy. With DD 1 they thought I had a detached retina, so there was lots of panic. It wasn't though. I had similar symptoms to you, but without raised BP. Do check with triage.

ShellyBobbs · 01/09/2012 18:20

Thanks Valium, I've never had anything like this the last 3 times and hubby always panics when anything out of the ordinary happens, where as I am the total opposite. With my first I went into labour and kept telling him, 'I'm fine, I'm fine', when I got to the hospital I was 8cm and he went mad Grin.

Pikz You will still have a rather large belly so I would just wear what you went in with, I always have (and for a few weeks after depending on your body), just PJ's for when you are actually in hospital, but either make sure somebody can wash them everyday or take quite a few pairs in just incase of blood leakage, I bled quite badly after my third and went through about 3 pairs a day.

ValiumQueen · 01/09/2012 18:48

pikz make sure your PJs are boobie accessible if you plan to feed, and you may need a dressing gown too, and crocs for in the shower (or similar). You will need to wear pants to keep the pads in place -get big ones that are belly huggers in case you need a section, and a nursing bra/ordinary bra to keep breast pads in place too.

kissyfur · 01/09/2012 19:35

Welcome pikz I found a nightie was the most comfortable hospital wear after having DD, but I had a section and didn't want anything tight around my tum

I'm thinking of joining the nct to get to know some more people, but it is quite expensive if I remember rightly so not sure

Just had a random craving for apple crumble and custard so went to asda and got some, had a massive bowl of it and feel a bit sick now Blush

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/09/2012 19:43

kissy it's £40 for 12 months or £48 for 18 months.

I'm planning on wearing track suit bottoms or similar to come home in. Wearing huge knickers/ maternity pads, breast pads etc is the least glam thing ever so may as well choose comfort over style and no one will see you anyway!

kissyfur · 01/09/2012 19:56

Oh thanks dh21 that's not as much as I thought, I thought it was about £150 but that must have been for the antenatal classes. Don't need those this time around Smile

pikz · 01/09/2012 20:02

Thank you. Am rewriting my list!
The £150 for nct is for the classes so it's £48 otherwise for the year.

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/09/2012 20:22

Yes that's right sorry didn't explain it properly!

I didn't do ante natal classes with ds (because he was 9 days early so missed it) and I won't be doing them this time either which they wrote on my notes as 'refused ante natal classes' Hmm

Evilwater · 01/09/2012 20:37

Hello everyone,
To those suffering with constipation, I am too. AngryI swear rabbits would have an easier time. Angry I think my son is laying on my gut, because for over a week there has been nothing to pass out! Except for the worst gas I have ever had. Angry and it smells awful.

I've also lost my savings book, with my emergency savings. I know I had it in the house, because I had to change the address, so I've bloody lost it! Angry Angry

So FFS what do I do??? I need that money, espally for xmas. AngryAngry
Also my hips have been aching all bloody day Angry and last week I had a lot more mucous last week. No blood, but this time it looked like snot, real snot!

Evil

StuntNun · 01/09/2012 20:37

This breathlessness is wrecking my saxophone playing. I get to the end of a piece panting as if I'd just run ten miles! At least the noise seems to stun junior into stillness. I wonder if he'll be musical like DS1?

We've finally agreed in a name, he will be James Andrew. DH will call him Jimmy, I want to call him Jay or maybe Jazz (for his initials J.A.S.) depending on what suits him best. If it's a girl then we don't have a name but three scans have said boy so I don't think that's likely.
