sundae I find I'm really full very quickly. Though I then seem to be starving within an hour :) it never ends!!
Who has scans coming up? Good luck to those of you! I'm on my phone do its difficult to check back.
I have to buy an Internet dongle tomorrow for the sake of a weeks revision urgh I can't wait to find out that cost. Though on a plus side I've booked a haircut finally :)
I'm still buzzing from the babies heartbeat earlier, it was so clear!! I wasn't expecting it to be so clear as the MW said it was a bit early to be listening for it :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 14/08/2012 22:42

Hi all,

Just quickly saying hello! Had a very long day today as was at a funeral so not had chance to catch up. Will try to get back up to speed tomorrow!
Night all.

Sunnymeadows · 14/08/2012 23:15

manda we are in our first house, we got quotes from magnet etc who wanted thousands. We bought the cupboards etc from homebase and used a local builder to fit it and our electrician to do electrics. Much, much cheaper but be careful for cowboy builders.

Got a question for you all. I have a big birthday coming up and we were thinking of doing a spa day but i can't do that now with bean. Any ideas for a party idea? Men and women but probably mostly women. Hope to go out for meal and mocktails the evening but would like to do something for day. Thanks girls x

Sunnymeadows · 14/08/2012 23:16

ethel sorry to hear that, hope you're ok.

Sheldonella · 15/08/2012 06:50

Morning ladies. Scan day today, eek! It isn't until 6ish but I will report back tonight. I'm hoping it's good news, my symptoms have worsened the last few days, this has to be good surely?

manda How exciting, a new kitchen. Glad you said that about John Lewis as DH and I were thinking of asking them for a quote. Don't think we will bother now! I second the suggestions to use a local tradesman. We did this with our bathroom recently and it was much cheaper than we expected.

Em I like your pants out of the window moment :) I almost threw DH for snoring last night!

to everyone else. Sorry for not namechecking more but my eyes aren't quite open yet Blush

All these holidays sound great. I just need to convince DH now. I want to go somewhere nice and relaxing as we usually do something hectic. We went to Iceland last year and averaged about 4 hours sleep a night.

I'm another one getting the palpitations - they are pretty scary :(

HaitchJay · 15/08/2012 07:28

Envy at Iceland. We were going to go two years ago but were TTC dd3 and the best time to go would have been when I was heavily pg, so we went to NYC earlier in the year instead. Good job as it turned out we would have been stuck as we planned to go at the same time the volcano went off!

JoJoBella84 · 15/08/2012 08:35

Urgh, another morning vomiting blood. I have an exam tutorial in 90 mins and really don't want to go as I feel shocking but I know how helpful it will be!! Grrr, I didn't want to have to use my brain this morning.
manda the OH and I are organising some building work on our soon to be new property. We need to install a kitchen and two bathrooms. The cost is terrifying me but the work should be done by the time I'm ready to move up north!!
Our builder recommended a company (can't think who at the moment) because they get trade price!

zoeymlucas · 15/08/2012 08:37

Actually lol at EM pants out the window story and VERY glad its not just me that hormonal - DS1 who is 9 googled pregnancy last night and discovered my hormones should settle down in the next few weeks so promptly asked DH if they can go on a 2 week fishing trip - Charming!!!
Good luck on your scan today sheld I will be thinking of you but wont get to find out how it went till tomorrow as after 8 weeks BT stll say my house doesnt excist so no closer to a phone or internet at home!

sundaesundae · 15/08/2012 08:53

I think I just had my first weird craving! I just ate belgian waffles with maple syrup and cheese. It was lush!

Thinking of you today Shel!

JoJo, my nausea is getting bad again, but I feel very lucky that I have only got as far as being sick in my mouth, you have my every sympathy it sounds awful!

kurlyvoice · 15/08/2012 09:12

Hi everyone! Finally my house is my own again - phew! Had three of our nephews staying (with my lovely SiL) and it's been bonkers. But at least I've had less time to worry about my scan. Which is tomorrow morning - argh!

I haven't managed to keep up with everyone so will have a read through now and try to keep up with you super-chatters!

zoeymlucas · 15/08/2012 09:21

Sundae that sounded lush till the cheese bit, lol! Try belgian waffles with chopped banana clearly healthy as has fruit toffee sauce and whipped cream on top and crumbed flake on top - DH even sometimes puts a scoop of ice cream on the side too!
I feel constantly hungry and then when I get food I feel full after a couple of mouth fulls and then an hour later an starving marving again! Am so tempted to go home from work right now have an awful head cold and feel really dizzy and funny even my eyes feel heavy and stinging

HaitchJay · 15/08/2012 10:07

Think I prefer the sound of Zoe's waffles!

School uniform shopping today still got some from last year but secondary is £££

mandasand · 15/08/2012 10:55

Flowery, that is my worry, that we'll never go abroad again, despite best intentions?agh! Don't get me wrong, we love our UK holidays but at least once a year I like to go somewhere else. We had a nice fortnight in France earlier this year and there is work trip to Paris in October over my birthday weekend (yippee!) so can't complain if our September trip doesn't materialise (bit unrealistic with the cost of kitchen + decorating etc!)

BUT last night we were chatting about how DH had really got into climbing up big mountains in the year before we met, and how he hasn't done one since! Just as we started TTC I promised him a mountain and recently on a trip to Glasgow we failed even to get up a Munro owing to weather. Last night we watched an old recording of Palin's Himalaya, which showed one of the stunning treks DH has done (to Annapurna base camp). He really wants us to go, but it's become three times as expensive since he went. He said people do take their kids (from 5 y.o.) so we resolved that we would try really hard to bring up hardy resilient little souls who would travel with us on the odd adventure. Unrealistic?! I'm sure it is, but it's nice to hope! I'd rather be a bit unrealistic and hopeful than someone I know who won't go more than an hour away from home in the car because their toddler doesn't like it. (Sorry if I offend anyone in that position!)

Tiddley, I just love 'cunting wanker'! It's brilliantly excessive and I am resolved to use it whilst I can still litter the place with foul language! We were watching Episodes the other night and one of the American characters shouted, in disbelief, 'Shut the fridge door!' instead of 'Shut the fuck up!' I think I'm going to need a few of these as I do swear a bit!

Ugh I'm having a good old (extremely polite) 'bitch-off' with the most awkward admin woman in the University. I'm simply asking that she do her job according to a schedule we agreed about six months ago and she's started copying in the Head of School and generally being a really awkward arse. Luckily I'm much better than she is at this game and I know from others that she has 'issues' with female academics, especially those younger than her. Fun and games ? when really I just need to be writing the damn book!

Like others I'm needing to eat constantly! Trying to keep most snacks healthy - yoghurts, apples, tomatoes with olive oil and salt+pepper, cereal - but last night we took a late-night walk to the Coop for a packet of Chipsticks and a Freddo! I wonder if I'm not eating enough carbs as I can't stomach bread this week, which is usually one of my staples?

Midwives was good last night. Left both me and DH a bit teary and feeling quite lucky with our situation in life.

Hope the funeral went as well as these things can go, Ethel.

Sunny will put thinking cap on!

FX crossed for your scan, Sheldonella! Hoping for a happy dancing bean Smile

Hello to everyone else! Once again big thanks for the recommendations re kitchen work. Huge relief!

NobbyD · 15/08/2012 11:18

Hello everyone!

Can I please join in? I am, apparently, also due in March. Have been lurkingreading since the wotsit thread but have been unconvinced of my own pregnancy to join but now I feel I'm ready to take the plunge!

According to midwife I am due on the 8th March. I am unconvinced. I had so many negative tests before finally getting the BFP that I almost don't believe it - or not that I am that far gone anyway. I have my scan next Tuesday so that should settle it.

I too am feeling nausea from hell. I have to eat all the time to settle it. I've been relatively lucky in that last 3 weeks I've been made to work from home due to olympics (work at a university that were taken over by Team USA so therefore kicked off campus) so it meant I could wallow in my sickness and just eat and sleep whenever I wanted. Today I am back in the office and sick as a dog, sucking on polos constantly! Its awful.

This is number 2 for me. DS is now 4 and we have already told him - prob shouldnt have done this early but blame the DH. DS is so excited and loving the extra cuddles I get and kissing of my big fat (yes already) belly Grin.

Manda My sister and BIL are mountain trekkers and adventurers too. They took their two kids (8 and 5) to China this year and did the great wall and some other treks. Kids loved it. My nephew was upset that he never got to try a starfish on a stick though! Think kids have more adventure in them than us adults really! I barely get my DS to walk to the shops let alone up a mountain!!!

Zoey heard that its pretty bad for hayfever sufferers at mo - could that be what your feeling along with pg symptoms? Highly recommend you go home!

JoJo your sickness sounds terrible. Hope you get through the day ok.

Sorry for those I havent chatted to - can only scroll up one page. Hope you don't mind me gate crashing this late in the day.

Lexiindisguise · 15/08/2012 11:20

em LOL at pants pit window! And curses to you for making me think of waffles! Food was awful yesterday, DH was out & I was so tired I had salt and vinegar crisps for tea; eating a lot of carbs, need to balance my diet a bit more I think!

manda DH & I love to travel, cost & practicality will constrain us now, we know, but we will still try; my folks had me with them in a caravan in Switzerland when I was 8 weeks old so I know it's possible with some compromise! Hoping for Lake District & Cornwall, maybe Holland or Brittany on the ferry in the first few years Smile

tiddleypompom · 15/08/2012 12:24

Welcome on board noddy - we aren't that far along really - just good at talking Wink. Is your first DC off to school this Sept for the first time?

kurly we are scan date buddies - gulp - what time is yours?I wound myself up into a proper tizz last night, heaven knows what I'll be like tonight. Good luck and I hope it is a lovely experience with photos at the end :)

Waffles. Now you're talking...

manda my db and I were raised by adventurous parents (my bro was born in New Zealand and me in Fiji). Dad was an Outward Bound instructor in the Lakes as well as a member of the Swiss Mountain Club - as a result we spent plenty of family holidays up hills. My db was taught to climb and is still goes regularly. What I'm saying I guess is - you have the right attitude and kids are resilient and much more able than many give them credit for; go for your adventures and instill in them a love of travel and you will be giving them a lifelong gift. Lucky twins :) Meantime enjoy your professional 'banter' - I used to get a lot of that too, being mostly from older guys (I was in the property/construction industry). By the way, when's your b'day? I am Oct baby too.

sheldon the best of luck for your scan later this afternoon - I will be sending positive vibes your way at 6pm and look forward to hearing good news.

It is a very chilly and rainy day here today so it is an indoor day. I have cleared out a drawer of clothes, replacing my work clothes with toddler-proof 'play' clothes and wondering if I'll ever have an occasion to wear any of the posh frocks I own. I used to go to a lot of industry events and hence have some lovely dresses - but somehow I can't see them being aired much over the next few years!

Can't wait till this time tomorrow when the scan will be over and I'll kow either way. This limbo is gruesome and my nerves are almost worse than the morning sickness was. jojo I wish I shared your optimism walking into the hospital!

How many others haven't had early scans and are waiting for the 12 week?

JoJoBella84 · 15/08/2012 12:45

tiddly I was only optimistic until my name was called, then I freaked out quietly to myself thinking there would be no baby and it's all just a huge joke!!
I think I'm looking forward to tomorrows scan more as I know there is definitely a baby and even though my OH won't be there I'm just happy to see baby again!

Who was talking about burst blood vessels around their face and eye recently?! I want to see if a rash I developed this morning around my chin and neck sounds normal??! Oh and a bit above my eye.

The tutorial went well, lots to revise still though :( one week tomorrow and it'll be done, wahey :)

sundaesundae · 15/08/2012 12:51

ARGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

Just gt my scan appointment and was very excited until the bit that said they can't do the NT unless I have seen a midwife and got my green notes and this that and the other. Called GP to chase appointment and was given a number for SureStart and the lady there said the process was that you book your own appointment. They are CLOSED all next week so can't see me till 6th Septemeber :O(((

Going to pick up my green notes and fill out all my bits and go anyway, I have to know if there is a baby in there or not. So stressed and upset :O((

backwardpossom · 15/08/2012 13:04

Manda we took 3 year old DS to France this summer. We drove from the north of Scotland to Hull then Zeebrugge to Paris. No bother at all. Get them used to the car from an early age and they'll be fine, imo!

OP posts:
theTramp · 15/08/2012 13:46

Today I feel like someone has hit me on the back of the head with a shovel

mandasand · 15/08/2012 13:48

Hello Noddy, welcome to the thread! I won't ask what London university you work for in case it's the same as me, hehe!

Cor, how fantastic to read of all these adventures with toddlers and indeed babes-in-arms in tow! You give me hope! Some really nice ideas there too! We're both keen cyclists (touring, not speed!) so cycling round Holland with a clip on baby buggy would be pretty easy, especially outside cities on those fabulous bikes-are-more-important-than-cars cycle lanes! Smile

Tiddley and others with imminent scans - FX for happy, healthy, and hopefully dancing, beans! I'm 13 October (about to turn 38, eek!) - and you? (Date, not age!)

Ouch, JoJo, that sounds annoying. Could it be stress/anxiety rash? I used to be prone to that sort of thing before exams and stuff when my skin was more sensitive.

Sundae what a bloody palaver! Hope you can get it sorted?

Tramp - it wasn't me! Wink

HaitchJay · 15/08/2012 13:49

Depends very much on the child regarding the car , dd1/3 could sit for ages. Dd2 is still the reason for our breaks and usually need to change seats so she doesn't wind up everyone else too much!

Hi to Noddy, I haven't got my head round pregnancy this time either !

tiddleypompom · 15/08/2012 14:13

I'm on the 19th manda and four years younger, smug git that I am Librans - balanced & harmonious. Except when wound up by washing machines :o

tramp it wasn't me either, I promise. In fact, I'd call it a spade, so it can't have been me.

sundae - yet another falls foul of The System. Why oh why can't they clearly explain how it works and therefore give each newly pregnant woman half a chance of making it work for her? A bit of consistency across the UK wouldn't go amiss either. Hurumph. I really hope you get it sorted soon - will you have your scan regardless?

sundaesundae · 15/08/2012 14:20

I will be turning up and saying yaboosucks about the NT bit if they won't do that. I wouldn't terminate based on it, I am 29 (30 on the 26th october) so not particularly high risk and it isn't the be all and end all.

Seeing a live something or other, however, is. I need to see if there is something in there or not.

TinkerBellaFlora · 15/08/2012 14:47

Oh my god, I just lost an epic (EPIC!) post. Gutted does not cover it [MUST COPY, THEN POST, MUST COPY, THEN POST]

Let's try again...

Manda DH and I have done the annapurna base camp trek. It was awesome and we would definitely do similar with DD (and any other children) when they're old enough. Would make more of an effort to be better equipped though, and go at the most appropriate time of year, since we had some fairly hairy experiences with extreme snow, cold and avalanches which I would not want to share with any wee ones...!

I was chuckling at your comments re the admin lady. I too had some pretty frosty/hostile relations with the admin women at uni (and have had with other 'mature women in admin positions' since) whereas DH always found the same women a delight both as a student and then when post-grad/supervising. On the other hand, I invariably find that security staff are pretty decent sort of folk ('forgot you pass, no worries, in you go tinker') whereas DH seems to be involved in low intensity constant feuding with one security guy after another. Funny eh?

Ethel sorry to hear you've been at a funeral. Hope it went as well as can be expected. I'm not looking forward to my GF's this Friday Sad

Good luck Sheldon and anyone else with upcoming scans. Hope it all goes well.

Welcome *Noddy, nice to have you with us!

Sorry to hear you're having a stressful time of things sundae. Are there any other midwife units you can contact? It's so difficult to get a handle on what we're supposed to do isn't it? Not least, we all seem to have an entirely different set of hoops to jump through and experiences...

I must also hold my hand up to being somewhat hormonal at the moment. Let's just say I reacted in a somewhat disproportinate way when I couldn't find a particular top recently (in my defence I look huge and rubbish in pretty much all of my clothes at the moment and this is the only top I feel even half decent in!). The day after 'top-gate' we were at the park with DD and another little girl was crying. DD said "girl crying" then, after a pause, turned to us and said knowingly "lost t-shirt". I felt pretty bad Blush
