We're on safari with the labour spotting signs... How long till the next baby arrives?

Pull up a birthing ball, sup some raspberry leaf tea and tuck into the 'big boy pineapple balti'. We're on the home straight!

P.S. fairtrade yeah sorry, another one here who has been engaged for weeks!! Waddling around uncomfortably for weeks. Great.

susiegrapevine · 13/08/2012 21:18

Thanks capecath had a look down there with a mirror and discharge seems to be back to its normal colour again so I guess it was a bit of a show. Will check again in the morn and if more will ring my mw.

NeedlesCuties · 13/08/2012 21:44

Signet hope your DB is back to full health soon.

Congrats to McBaby

I need another rant, please. I posted a while ago about DH's boss being a meanie and telling him (when I was 35 weeks pregnant) that he hadn't been in the job long enough to qualify for Pat. Leave. Anyway, so he agreed to take the time off as annual leave and unpaid leave. Today she told him that as he told her my due date = 24/8 then the period of leave will start from that date...

So if I have the baby between now and 24th he will be required to be in work the next day - but she's being kind enough to let him attend the birth with me Hmm. Also, if I go overdue that is just tough luck as the period of leave isn't flexible.

She can kiss my flabby white arse. I am not amused.

MrGeresHamster · 13/08/2012 21:51

Needles your DH's employer is wrong (I work in HR) legally paternity cannot be taken until the birth of the child, so if you go overdue, the paternity leave gets moved. See the ACAS website for information for your DH to print off and take in. He needs to contact his HR dept if there is one for clarification. Let me know if he has further problems and I can help further.

With my DH there is no HR dept so I sent him into work with a whole load of paperwork that I highlighted the relevant bits for his boss. They did not argue they know my profession Wink

Sorry also meant to put that Paternity Leave starts on the day that the child is born unless the employee chooses it to start later. Employers don't get to choose or negotiate this.

Mcbaby great news, is it a boy or a girl?!
Signet and Suzie so sorry for all your stress, hope your relatives get wel v v soon.
Justine def put your foot down and make a big fuss, it's your right not to have to deliver your own baby, awful of them to make out like it's a problem when it really isn't that much of a big deal for them to induce you.
Needles boss sounds awful, isn't Dh a gp? Therefore shouldn't they be a bit more understanding about birth?!?!?
Anyway I feel like I may never give birth, am sooo fed up with going to the loo to wee every 15 mins (or so it feels like!)
40 on Sunday but sweep booked for Monday as VBAC so they don't want me going too far over, but I feel ready now!!!

Whiteangel · 13/08/2012 22:52

Been having contractions since 4:30. Not very regular but getting more painful. Slowed down when I went in the bath but became more intense. Going to attempt to go to bed as normal but don't feel tired at all at the moment. At what point should I ring the hospital? I know I don't go until they are every 3 mins and regular for an hour but should I give them a heads up or wait a bit and see what happens? Feel strangely calm but a bit like Xmas eve!

geekette · 13/08/2012 23:58

white I would give them a heads up andllet them decide when I should call back or go in. Good luck!

justine09x · 14/08/2012 00:44

Thankyou sooooo much ladies just read all your advice, Midwife didn't ring me until after 5 so she said she would leave a message with my own midwife to call me in the morning and if I still wanted to see a doctor then she should arrange. If not i'm going to contact the supervisor of midwives as one of you lovely ladies pointed out. Thanks alot I really mean it I thought I was being silly, but the closer my due date gets the more I am petrified it will happen again. I'm not going anywhere without dh this time! so will be putting foot down if they don't want me having a homebirth then they really have no choice but to induce me on their terms under their care will let u all know how it goes.....

and eeeeeeekkk white so exciting, I would ring them and say you know when contractions are so far apart that u will come in, but give them a heads-up so they half expect you. Good luck!! xx

susiegrapevine · 14/08/2012 04:01

Yay white am awake and pissed off all my curry has given me is bad reflux!! Feel a bit sick so am sitting up sipping water for a bit. Hopefully there wiLl be baby news in the morn!

MrGeresHamster · 14/08/2012 07:07

Yeay White that is brilliant that something is happening, hopefully you get to miss being induced! Keep us updated and good luck!

White that is great news, hope your LO arrives soon!

MrGeres I have PM'd you :)

tash yes DH is a GP, but his boss isn't. She's a practice manager, so just like a manager in any other place. Any time he's mentioned the baby this whole time he says her face goes white and she looks stressed. Thanks a lot, lady :( I know she's just doing her job and trying to balance everything, but she will not be on my Christmas card list.

capecath · 14/08/2012 07:52

needles can't believe your DH's work is being so uncompromising!! That is disgraceful really :(

white yay exciting! Hope that's for real. I was uncomfy in the night again but didn't go anywhere, but hey, can't complain today is the day... Feeling kinda sentimental! Wanted to thank you all for your listening ears and support over the last months. I've so appreciated it. See you on the other side :)

Lovemarmite · 14/08/2012 09:11

signet how's your DB today? Hope he's doing better today

white great news, I love 'feels like Christmas eve', wow reminds how special this all is. Hope all is progressing for you well, and let us know

Justine hope you're less stressed and things are working out to make you feel more supported. Your labour last time is an amazing story.

needles sounds like she's an ongoing pain in the a**e! Rant away, its hard to change the situation or her methods and so quite understand it's sooo frustrating.

I think I had my show this morning as I got out of bed this morning. Found very thick yellow discharge and so I guess this is the start of losing the plug? I guess it can happen ages before labour though Confused

Sending labour dust to everyone who's more than ready! x

NeedlesCuties · 14/08/2012 09:16

Love exciting that you lost your plug, woohoo! I'm (im)patiently waiting on mine. Lost it around this time when pregnant with DS.

You're right though about DH's boss being a PITA at every turn. In fact I almost feel like driving past her office sticking out my tongue, flicking her the V's and waving my large stretch-marked belly in her direction.... but I won't Grin

susiegrapevine · 14/08/2012 10:48

Hello everyone. Feeling very fed up again. Grandad is staying in hospital for another couple of days as he now has to have a chest drain :(.

Dunno what to do today as weather is not great and I don't wanna go too far from home just in case.

39 weeks today! Wow had ds at 38 + 3 so I feel mega pregnant now!

justine my reason for wanting hb was due to a quick 1st labour. Seems crazy that they would have you deliver baby yourself rather dangerous than let you have a planned hb!! Defo kick up a fuss. There must be something they can do!

WelshLadyCDF · 14/08/2012 10:50

Tmi alert Blush have just lost my plug...bleurghhhhh it was yucky.
Back to watching Homes under the Hammer now!
Xxx

justine09x · 14/08/2012 11:59

That's what I thought suzie I've put my foot down though and spoke to supervisor of midwives at the hospital and they have got me a consultant appointment this afternoon to make a plan as in 37+4 today and had last baby at 38 weeks so they may book me in for induction as supervisor said this would be the sensible option. So fingers crossed if they are saying homebirth is a risk then surely I should be there at hospital!! I've put my foot down and said I don't want trauma of another unplanned homebirth especially if there is risks this time.

Thanks so much hamster it was only supervisor of midwives that took my concerns seriously so that advice was fab :)

Feel much better now that I should get a plan lets hope I get induced!! :)

MrGeresHamster · 14/08/2012 12:04

That's fabulous news Justine, my hours of research time wasting on mumsnet has not been in vain.

So glad they are seeing you so quickly too, what a weight off your shoulders! Good luck!

MrsMigginslovespies · 14/08/2012 13:13

Justine, great news, you must be so relieved. Good luck, hope it all goes brilliantly for you.

Exciting too for the ladies who have lost their plugs, grim though that may be. I've not yet and have that delight to come Wink.

White, super exciting time for you. Let us know how you are and how you get on. Good luck too!

Feel much better today after my traumatic sweep yesterday. Slept well and am not too sore which is good. Just pottering about and hoping for a walk by the river later. My ticker thing says I have one day to go! Is scary as it seems to have flown past and seems like no time at all when it said the baby was the size of a raspberry! Amazing. Baby is stil making some huge movements that feel quite epic when he gets under my ribs with his feet. DH was playing with them this morning which was quite funny as baby suddenly didn't know what was going on! Bless him!

Anyhoo, hope you all have good days and am sending good baby vibes that some babies arrive very soon. 39+6 today! xx

susiegrapevine · 14/08/2012 14:00

justine that's great it must be a weight off your mind. I would hate to think of anyone delivering there own baby alone or worse whilst lo watched!

Off to the arcade in a bit to gamble away my 2p collection. At least it gets me out the house so no more dwelling and just waiting its horrid! Never really had that with ds.

tashaw28 · 14/08/2012 14:28

Omg am fuming!! Have to rant sorry...remember I posted last week about not being allowed a group b strep swab? Well I went to my mw appt and lied and said I had very increased discharge so they gave me a swab, anyway, phoned today and it came back positive!!! How lucky is that, really feel like I dodged a bullet there and am so annoyed that I had to phone 2 hospitals and my gp and was made to cry by a horrid mw before I thought to lie just to get the swab done! Grrrrr
Anyway cape hope you're going well today!

Signet2012 · 14/08/2012 14:29

Hi all, just a quick update. Little brother is now home! He is still a bit confused and not quite with it but to be expected after his brain jumbled about his head. Has to be not left alone for 48 hours and any issues to go back.

Poor lad just glad to be away from our mother I think!

Sorry to hear about your granda Suzie, hope he ok soon.

Well due date is rapidly approaching 2 weeks exactly. Although I think lo will be staying put for some time yet, if the shock yesterday didnt bring her out i am not sure what will!

Whiteangel · 14/08/2012 16:08

Ow, ow, ow and ow! Contractions going for 24 hours now and pelvis/lower back is agony. Went up to the hospital at 9am to be checked over but everything stopped whilst I was there so felt a bit silly. Wasn't any more dilated than when I had my sweep but cervix had thinned out. Was really struggling to cope earlier so spoke to my ante-natal teacher who is also a doula and have a plan that is working for me now and feeling more positive again. Mental strength seems to just as important as physical - ow contraction - for getting through this in one piece. Good news is contractions finally seem to be getting regular, bad news is they are still 10 mins apart. MW seemed to think I might still have to go for my induction tomorrow so really need to get things moving before then!

Signet2012 · 14/08/2012 16:24

oo doesnt sound long now! Good luck!
