Thanks for all the advice on water birth - I not been able in the first three due to having an epidural (bullied into having Epidural as had syntocin drip) but with no 4 I refused point blank to let them anywhere near my back, wouldn't even let them strap me up to monitors and they had to use the hand held things. I had a fantastic midwife though who basically told Drs where to go and how fast lol but again had the drip so wasn't allowed in water. Good note there being I could still walk around, roll around etc.

Note to clothes during/after birth: for me nighties were nightmares as they would ride up and hard to sort out when you're sore and got a baby in your arms - learned the hard with no 1.
I got a few pairs of big baggy tracksuit bottoms from a charity shop (washed them of course) and took them for the last three. I liked to wear strechy vest tops for easy BF and a good sized cardi for when people visited/got up in night. That way I didn't get tangled up in ties or long dressing gowns. also as spotty suggested tight shorts are good for stopping leakage. I got some bikini bottoms and a pair of tankini shorts as these were stretchy but not overly tight - and you can get maternity ones which will still fit after birth.

Fact of the day: we are getting Braxton Hicks as our bladders are pushing on our uterus, irritating it and so it tenses up. Fascinating!

SpottyTeacakes · 06/08/2012 07:07

So we just need a wee?!

ISpyJumpHigh · 06/08/2012 08:12

Morning everyone, hope you are all ok. I've got my 'extra' scan today at 1 - just hope baby is behaving him/herself today so they can check everything!

EggsMichelle · 06/08/2012 08:43

If that is the only reason then yes, go for a pee!!!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 06/08/2012 08:43

I would say great tip eggs but emptying my bladder def doesn't make any noticeable difference! Unfortunately!

Good luck with the scan ispy I hope lo is behaving better!

I was awake from 12-5.30 so am knackered an seriously contemplating going back to sleep today (was throwing up at 4.30, first time in over a week)

CODwidow · 06/08/2012 09:30

Doesn't make a difference to me either Sad

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/08/2012 10:25

Morning all, hope you've all had lovely weekends.

I have a quick MAT1b form question for all you further along ladies. I rang the doctors today to enquire about getting my form as I won't see my midwife until I'm just over 25 weeks. The receptionist told me that they cannot legally issue them until after 25 weeks Hmm with I think is wrong as I thought it had to be handed in to my emplyer by then in order to qualify for SMP? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Can anyone shed some light on it for me? How did other people get theirs?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/08/2012 10:25

which not with

ellliebelle · 06/08/2012 10:44

willyou sorry no advice there hopefully someone more knowledgeavle will be along soon. I took the advice and called ebay, what a waste of time :( they were useless. Nothing they can do up to seller to decide basicly also had a reply from seller if i want to pay £18 they are happy for me to collect if i want to pay £6.50 i won the auction for then i have to pay £13 postage :( i know its not a lot for a baby bouncer but its the principle

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 06/08/2012 10:48

That's ridiculous! They can't up the price because you want to collect. Tbh I would ask them to relist it and bid on something else. If they are being shifty about that what else may they be shifty about Hmm

Well I'm feeling rough as right now but it is ALWAYS worse when I haven't slept well so I'm not at all surprised!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/08/2012 10:52

That's rubbish Ellie, as Stacey said I'd tell them to relist if they want to be arsey about it. There's no way I'd pay £13 for postage on something that cost half that!

SpottyTeacakes · 06/08/2012 10:55

I would ask them to cancel the transaction ellie that's really not on. Just tell them you don't want it. I would also leave negative feedback if you can, and I'm not one to leave negative without a really good reason.

willyou your doctors are wrong, they aren't allowed to hand you your form before 21 weeks, your employers will want to see it but I don't think it matters if it is a few weeks later than your written notice of ML. I suppose it depends on your company policy.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/08/2012 10:57

Thanks Spotty I'll wait for my midwife then. I knew it was 20 weeks before not 15 though. She tried to make out i was a massive pain in the arse wrong

PrunellaDeVille · 06/08/2012 11:22

willyou as per spotty - they can supply after 21 weeks, you're not supposed to make the application though until after 24 weeks but looking at the form i don't quite know where to start and expect it'll take me ages to get around to filling it in (self employed so i've got no-one else to pass it on to).

ellie i'd lodge a formal complaint procedure and not pay, letting it be annulled and leaving negative feedback if possible, that's just plain wrong of them.

Afternoon all

Just a quicky while I'm on lunch at work.

Good luck for today's scan ISpy

Willyou I'm not sure of the procedure as such with regards to MatB1's, but I do remember last time the midwife would not even entertain the idea of giving me the form until I was 24/25 weeks, I can't remember exactly.

Great tip about the swimming costume, I've actually just won one on eBay, brand new Mothercare one, total price £13! Might have to pop into the shop too now though...

Quick question for those having been abroad recently or are going soon (Stacey Smile). I'm going on holiday in two weeks to Cyprus and need holiday insurance. Did you have a specific 'pregnancy' insurance or will normal insurance do?

PrunellaDeVille · 06/08/2012 12:41

JoJo Most travel insurance does not consider pregnancy as something they need to be informed of and you'll be covered as standard but there's no harm in calling to check before you buy.
i got free european travel insurance through nationwide (as a current account customer) and i was fully covered a month ago. If you were 30+ weeks it might be different i guess but should be ok at the mo

pmgkt · 06/08/2012 12:42

You would list it under the pre existing medical conditions as they need to know as it effects the risk. As long as you have no issues and are low risk then I don't it will cost any / much extra.

MyDaydream · 06/08/2012 12:45

ISpy good luck for the scan.
Willyou My MW said they give them out at the 25 week appointment, but if I called her directly she'd be happy to get it to me once I'd had my 20 week scan.
ellie I'd cancel the transaction. If you post in the eBay topic on here there seems to be some very knowledgeable people they may be able to give you some advice. They shouldn't have listed it so low if they didn't want to sell it so cheap.

pmgkt · 06/08/2012 12:45

I have just bought a pair of over bump jeans from next. They are the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn. I have a few pair of under bumps passed on from a friend and they need to be constantly pulled up.

JoJoB77 · 06/08/2012 12:55

Thanks for your help Prunella and pmgkt. I think I will pick one out later and give them a call [smile}

FriendofDorothy · 06/08/2012 12:56

You do need to check with your travel insurance about pregnancy stuff. most are fine though.

WeeJo08 · 06/08/2012 12:56

Hi everyone! Hope all your Mondays are going okay. I had a great weekend (mostly spent watching the Olympics!)

Bubbless I went for a pregnancy massage last week and the (amazing!) lady who did it recommended a book to me that she said was particularly good, it's called 'Water Birth Book' by Janet Balaskas. I haven't got it yet, but I might see if I can, as I am hoping for a water birth too.

Friend Glad you're feeling better! I'm sure you're still a bit weak though so take care of yourself.

Ellie Cancel the transaction! Tell them you want a refund - that is ridiculous of them to ask for that!

Ispy Good luck today - I hope it all goes really well :)

JoJo I am also going on holiday (though next month so need the Fit to Fly thingy too) and am looking at travel insurance. I had read that because of some change to EU law that insurance companies are not allowed to treat pregnant women any differently, but to be on the safe side I am going to get insurance that specifically covers it (and I'll probably phone them up beforehand too!) I found this one: www.sunselection.co.uk/pregnancy Hope it helps.
