Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CODwidow · 14/08/2012 22:46

emily my swinging crib only lasted about 3 months as they tend to outgrow them quickly and mine would get his hands caught in the bars as it was quite narrow.

CODwidow · 14/08/2012 22:53

I can feel movement and kicks but she's on her belly which means a lot of the kicks are directed at my bladder so lots of strange prodding feelings instead of outward kicks to my belly iyswim.

2 youngest ds's are of on a train ride with my mum tomorrow so looking forward to not doing much at all tbh Smile

ISpyPlumPie · 14/08/2012 22:55

emily - we had a swinging crib with DS (it had been mine and DB's and kept by DM in the loft "for the grandchildren" ever since). He really wasn't sure about it at first - think he didn't like the fact that there was nothing there when he stuck his arms out of the bars IYSWIM. He slept better in his carry cot for the first few weeks, then we moved him over at about six weeks I think. He stayed in it until about 5 months when he got too big, so we did ok out of it and DS was a chunky little monkey too.

For anyone else thinking of reusing a crib (think it was mentioned earlier in the thread) the only problem we had initially was finding a new matress to fit as the sizes have altered a bit since 1980! It was from John Lewis, and they were really helpful with finding the nearest match which we then cut down to fit.

Bubbless · 14/08/2012 23:02

kate i also suggested that he pays whatever 'free' money he has into an old savings account ive got, and when there is enough to pay off his overdraft il transfer it ALL back in, then he can reduce it immediatly. its nice that hes now realised he needs the help and will accept it!

spotty see, id have then cut my nose off to spite my face and gone to bed with a note on the door saying 'asleep, you were gone forever, sleep on the sofa..'
then read rest of future posts.. welcome him to bed with wide arms!

cookies so maternity pants are a nono? anyone else tried them?!

friend maybe becase you were a bit bigger to start with its taking longer for the kicks to 'reach' a bit you can feel properly? (i know what im trying to say, im just not very good at articulating! sorry!)

emilyeggs · 14/08/2012 23:08

Thanks Ispy that helps. I could put a bumper around it to make baby feel safe, also will swaddled as well

blackcurrants · 15/08/2012 01:12

Friend I'm overweight too and get the odd little fluttering or bubbling feeling, but no proper kicks. I had placenta previa with DS and didn't feel the big thwacking kicks until quite late (5-6 months) that time, either.

I do like the little flutters but I'm not clamouring for the big thwacks - they get really uncomfy, and they'll be here sooner or later, so I'm just enjoying the more, erm, delicate sensations for now! :)

Walnut8 · 15/08/2012 06:14

Bubbless, I found the most comfy pants are hipsters in a size or two bigger than I usually wear.

We ordered a mattress from an online UK baby mattress store to fit a john lewis cot. Much cheaper and very quick, and they make to order. Was very impressed with them. I will try to find the details.

I've put on a whack of weight, almost ten kilos (22lbs). Was a size 8-10 before. Not really a surprise though as I don't get much morning sickness or lose weight when preg, just gain, gain gain!! Have a huge bump also, and huge boobs (up 3 cup sizes already), and getting very sick of the "you must be due soon" type comments. Some of my mat clothes getting tight over bump already?! Luckily DH is sweet and just says my body knows what it's doing and all the weight is "just necessary stuff" ... like extra inches on my hips Hmm ... anyone else who has had or having their second and massive the second time around??

Have also had an extremely stressful and anxious time with some issues that have cropped up at my former workplace (I resigned a while ago as too stressful in general there). My family keep telling me not to worry about it, but I just can't not worry about it until it's resolved and then I'm stressed that it's hurting the baby.

At least I have now had my scan and everything looks good, which was a huge weight on my mind. My placenta is lowish though, so I will need an extra scan at 32 weeks.

Walnut8 · 15/08/2012 06:20

Also, my DH complains that he is missing out if we don't have sex for more than a couple of nights in a row?! I'm going to have to show him this thread!

knottyhair · 15/08/2012 08:05

Naomi, good luck for the scan today, let us know which team you're joining! Friends, I'm 21 weeks and was a size 10 before pregnancy and I don't feel distinct kicks as such either, but I do recognise that "going over a bump" feeling that someone else mentioned (sorry, can't recall who!) and I get the odd "popping" sensation.

Had my consultant appt on Monday and they've put me down for ELCS finally! I will get a date when I'm 34 weeks but she should be delivered around a week before my due date (24th, so around 17th). I feel so much more relaxed even though I blubbed like an idiot all the way through the appt Blush.

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 08:09

Well that'll teach me! Was a bit concerned as i hadn't felt him moving much this morning. Scrunched my legs up and had a bit of a prod of my tummy and received a battering in return!

Oops :o

emilyeggs · 15/08/2012 08:33

That's great news knotty, you get your bundle a little sooner too! Smile

utopian99 · 15/08/2012 11:10

bella I used to sit on a pregnanacy ball at work because I have scoleosis and helps strengthen your back/core muscles, and stop backache, but I was in a corner desk to clients coming in couldn't see it. Really want to again now, but worried the directors will say or no, or I'll just be mocked mercilessly (am the only female in a 20-strong architecture practice, so am used to the banter, but don't want to draw any more attention to being PG than i have to..)

cod widow and emaily we're considering a hammock type thing like the Amby nature's nest or Miyo - they look great and have had som egood write ups, but does anyone know what they're actually like or how long you can use them before going to a cot?

Sex-wise, Dh and are not as often as normal for us (used to be once every day or so) which at first was him freaking out over the baby I think, and is now more down to being tired from doing up the house. Hoping it'll get back to normal soon, as works are more or less finished, and him being tired has a noticeable effect on his libido! I have a question though - on the subject of prodding the baby, which I know is impossible, but he's (ahem) a bit generous down there (sorry, TMI I know,) and sometimes afterwards my bump feels a bit twingy. He's used to being careful anyway and is even more so now, but should I be worried? I haven't noticed anything other than that, no bleeding issues...

utopian99 · 15/08/2012 11:20

on a totally different note, has anyone noticed they've got the Demon Thirst? I'm drinking about 9 pints of water a day, and still thirsty!

MyDaydream · 15/08/2012 11:22

WillYou thanks for the link about names by area. It's really interesting.
Friend I rarely get distinct kicks, I don't think I have a kicky baby I think mine just likes rolling around, I tend to get kicks when I'm curled up on the sofa. Feels like someone is rooting around in there.
emily I've never used a crib, but we're getting one for when baby is in our room, I wanted one because I think they look nicer than moses baskets, and we don't have space for a full size either.

Bubbless I've not bothered with maternity pants, I've found if you find knickers with a wide lace waistband they stretch loads. I'm still wearing my pre pregnancy pants in that style and am just stocking up when I see them. Primark usually have loads of colours/styles, and I got 3 for £8 from Sainsbury's although DP commented that they were a bit like granny pants!
Walnut My DP probably thinks he's missing out, but still doesn't get him any!

knottyhair · 15/08/2012 11:23

utopian, I was like this for the last few weeks (seems a bit better now), I just put it down to the heat though. Sorry to ask but have you checked the colour of your wee? Should be straw coloured so I'm told. Apparently it can be too pale as well as too dark. If the colour is OK, then you must be needing that amount of fluid. Not sure if this helps...

MyDaydream · 15/08/2012 11:24

utopian I think it's fairly normal to get a twingy bump after sex, mine goes a bit hard for 5 or so minutes. Also getting demon thirst, I can't even keep up with how much I want to drink sometimes.

CODwidow · 15/08/2012 11:56

I am also really thirsty!
I've chosen a Moses basket as I will move it to the lounge during the day so baby naps in noisy surroundings to hopefully teach day/night.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/08/2012 12:02

We also have a muses basket for the convenience of being able to put the baby in there during the day/early evening. I liked to get dd used to being in there to sleep even in the day and will do the same this time if baby is happy with that!

Barbeasty · 15/08/2012 13:01

I think we're up to 3 Moses baskets now, but I need to replace the mattresses (despite having at least 8 to choose from) because they've all come from SIL.

I've finally chosen the pushchair too, and have come full circle back to the pear. I managed to discover that the conversion I have to do from 3 to 4 wheels before turning from apple to pear is free, so it makes it so much cheaper we'd be mad to look at anything else. Just have to order it now!

Just pricing up a new single bed for DD, as DH has decided he wants to bite the bullet and move her this weekend. And wondering how it can be so much!

I'm getting lots of kicking now, although it's all fairly gentle. Very tired though.

NaomiRuth · 15/08/2012 13:08

Just back from scan. The sonographer was lovely and explained what she was doing. All is well and it's a girl!!!

knottyhair · 15/08/2012 13:18

Lovely news Naomi, welcome to team pink!

CODwidow · 15/08/2012 13:47

Great news naomi Smile

FriendofDorothy · 15/08/2012 14:06

I was at a meeting this morning and one of the commuity midwives was there. I collared her for a quick chat and asked about feeling movement or not. She said that it varies from woman to woman but she had her doppler with her so did a quick heartbeat check which was fine. Also, she said that he kicked the probe away, but I definitely didn't feel it. She was so nice and helpful :)

Barbeasty · 15/08/2012 14:17

Friend- that's great. DD did the same to the Doppler when I was being checked because movement stopped. It's strangley reassuring when you know there is actually movement you just can't feel.

Naomi- great news. It's all surprisingly even for boy/ girl/ surprise.

kate2boysandabump · 15/08/2012 14:28

I have a raging thirst too, it wakes me in the night.

naomi glad it all went well.

knotty great news.

friend that must have made you feel much better

I'll be using a carrycot downstairs during the day and a Moses basket upstairs at night. Ds2 has a crib, but he wasn't keen, not enough room for him to stretch out, he preferred his cot.

I'm sooo tired, need another early night.
