Oo the cramps!! Sad I get them every time

itsMYNutella · 09/08/2012 23:53

Hi everyone!!! Sorry, things are really busy here (and when I'm not busy I'm napping :)) had a quick read and good to hear all the lovely scan news!
Nice to read about people picking names too. I have a list because I feel I need to meet the bubba before we can name them properly.... Also, being team yellow we have two lists :o

Bella I've always had leg cramps - used to think it was an old swimming injury - but apparently it's my crappy legs.

Keep you feet up (lie on the sofa in the evenings while watching telly relaxing and keep your feet above the heart) also make sure you're drinking plenty - water, gin probably wont help.. and a magnesium supplement might also help - My Dr told me to take it in the evenings as late as possible.

Consider compression stockings (and use rubber gloves to get them on if they're tight), not sure on the UK selection but here you can them in a billion different colours and they look like normal tights; although I think the flesh coloured ones actually look too thick... I'll pick black or a colour next time.

They can also be prescribed by the Dr so at least they might be free. :)

Have great weekends everyone, although hopefully I'll be back on here soon otherwise I'll never catch up!!

Countmyblessings · 10/08/2012 03:21

Hi ladies - was on this bus at the beginning thread 1, didn't add to list as had a few scares which also came to pass and had to leave!
Just wanted to say " I'm not quite, but when I get passed 12 weeks will def be joining the March thread"
"All the best to you all and your Christmas puddings"

SpottyTeacakes · 10/08/2012 06:35

Ah so pleased for you blessings good luck with your spring arrival Smile

Bella I get awful craps too, only when in bed, I just get my hands and pull my foot up towards my knee if that makes sense?! I get the cramp in my calf at the moment but I know it will soon be my whole leg! nutella has some good advice.

Clarella · 10/08/2012 06:54

Sorry I'm so crap keeping up!I have several started replies to things several.pages back in my notes!

Bella, woke up with some leg cramps too but not as bad as your by the sounds of it. I used to get them a,few years ago at night (don't think I was very fit and when it was hot) and I used to plunge them under the cold tap/shower in the bath then stick them up - seemed to help. Definately support stockings/sox help a lot when worn during the day - boots have some preg knee highs (near the tens machines) or you could try flight socks which might be stronger. Sounds like they've got the support thing sorted over there nutella! I did find some footless support leggings on amazon for a wedding too. A girl at yoga said she wears runner's compression socks at night to help with cramps, not tried yet. I've heard that about magnesium too.

I think I've missed some scans and colours - congratulations! Loving all the names, like Raphael pidg and Felix, Rosa (rosa parkes) and all the others too! Anyone is welcome to my middle name which is the danish version of Elizabeth, Elsebeth (short to ella). Was a possible if we had a girl. (yeah my mn name is massively unimaginative! I have a couple I may change to!)

DH (who likes very usual thomas the tank names) threw a ball curve on our 20wk scan day with a very uncommon name which was actually his nickname and goes very alliteratively with his last name, plus his dad said he'd wished he'd been brave enough to use it! It's been relegated to middle with a ttt name eg George, Thomas or Henry or I'd be panicking and asking thoughts here! I actually love it but DH keeps doing u turns. There's a whole mn thread on it! (not brave enough to reveal yet!)

Glad scan better myday :)

Lovely news count!

emilyeggs · 10/08/2012 07:13

Hope work doesn't have the heating on again like yesterday!!!!!! Angry apparently only H/O can turn it off!!! That's Boots for you!

knottyhair · 10/08/2012 07:35

Clarella, yay, I thought of Rosa Parkes when we picked it! But it was mainly because DS wanted Rosie and we decided to go for the Italian version as DP & DS both have italian names (DP is half italian). Great news Countmyblessings, so happy for you. And glad the scan went better for you MyDaydream.

Off to a friend's today for lunch in the garden whilst DS & her kids play in the pool - need to get to Waitrose for some nice lunch bits! Hope you all have a nice day xx

knottyhair · 10/08/2012 07:36

And emily, my god, have a word about the heating, that's insane!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 10/08/2012 07:50

Off swimming with the dcs today to a pool with slides and wave machines and the like, got my new swimming cossie on, my bump looks huge!!!

Hope you all have a good day!

ellliebelle · 10/08/2012 09:10

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine. I got cramp with both the dd's cant remember when it started but would happen most nights and it was agony :( hope i miss that symptom/side effect out this time round

On my phone and there were loads of other things i was going to comment on but i have forgotten them already

Im working today so have 4 children to entertain going to go to a corn maze with another childminder which should be fun.i only have one more dayvto work in the hols which im quite pleased about :)

Things with me and dh are still not right and im at a loss at what to do now :( he doesnt work thursdays so we went to a beer garden with lovely play area in the hope we would have a chat and a laugh but not such luck we pretty much sat there for over an hour in silence :( we are going away for a couple of nights for ny birthday in a few weeks and im dreading it if we are still not right :(

MyDaydream · 10/08/2012 12:28

Count that's great news, hope your pregnancy goes well for you.
When I've got cramp in the night DP has pushed my foot up towards my chest then makes me stretch it out.
Ellie sorry to hear things are still rough with your DP, hopefully your birthday weekend will change something and being away from everything will do you the world of good.
Hope everyone's having a lovely day in the sunshine. I'm meant to be tidying the house for DPs friends coming over tomorrow but think I'm going to go try on all my new maternity clothes that just got delivered and prance around the house! Never too old to play dress up.

itsMYNutella · 10/08/2012 12:38

I've had leg cramps in the night for.... well as long as I can remember! It was only after moving here and complaining to the right Dr and getting stockings that I've had any relief! Sorry to hear that people are suffering with it but if it is bad / regular occurrence then get a prescription stockings are the best!! Knee high ones will do it; I wear them under my trousers - haven't worn them much lately because of the heat and even though you're supposed to wear them all day I find wearing them at least in the evening with feet up really helps!

They do come with a warning not to be worn at night in bed.... although I don't know why.

Thinking of you ellie, hope you guys find some time to talk soon! My DP has phases where he says nothing to me about his worries and then it all gets too much for him it comes tumbling out and he wonders why he didn't just say something in the first place hope it isn't too serious for you guys! Lots of big unMumsnetty hugs!!

mwahmwah · 10/08/2012 13:07

Oh lordy, I took the comfortably full bladder for scan a bit too far...

gilsbubbles · 10/08/2012 13:20

blessings so pleased to hear your happy news, hope all is going well.

I've been cot browsing, It's so so much more than I want to spend and i know there are lovely cots out there for a fraction of th eproce but I'm loving the Stokke Sleepi... Please please talk me out of it (DP is failing miserably)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 10/08/2012 13:24

Stoke everything seem majourly overpriced to me, I saw a stoke highchair for £250 in mothercare [shick] it's a highchair!!!!

MyDaydream · 10/08/2012 13:27

mwah take it you went from comfortable to "hurry up I need a wee" very quickly?
gils I really liked the Sleepi but just couldn't justify it to myself, I've settled on a bog standard one that turns into a nice looking children's bed. With me it helped my mum offered to buy it, but wouldn't have if I'd asked for the Sleepi.
Is anyone thinking of 4D scans? I was dead against it thinking I'd rather spend my money on other things, but DPs new job came with a pay rise and after seeing baby yesterday I really want to see him again before birth. DP isn't sure, and I really just want to see baby one more time. But it's quite an expense for a 40 minute peak at baby, which is putting me off.

PurplePidjin · 10/08/2012 13:31

Gils, save it for something the baby will actually appreciate! Most of these things are a way of conning us first timers out of vast sums of money, don't succumb to the marketing ploy.

Babies need food, warmth and love.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/08/2012 13:49

We got dd's cot bed from Kiddicare. It's really nice even as a bed now.

MyDaydream · 10/08/2012 13:53

Spotty how long have you had it for? The one we're looking at is from Kiddiecare. Did you get the mattress from them as well?

SpottyTeacakes · 10/08/2012 13:56

Dd is 26 months now. It's the sleigh one? I might have the name wrong but it's something like that. Yes got the mattress from there too. Had no problems with any of it Smile

blackcurrants · 10/08/2012 14:12

Gils I love all the Stokke stuff .... online. I wanted the cot, the pushchair, the highchair, and ended up with an Ikea cot (that we've loved) an Ikea antilop highchair, and a 2nd hand citi mini pushchair that I will only get rid of when both children have left for university (or maybe gone to school!), it's so great. I love the design concepts Stokke make, I can't justify spending that much on any of it, I just can't - not even for a 'life time' product, not even for more than one child. And it's a good job I didn't: DS was in our bed for 8 months, slowly transitioned to his cot, and so was only in his cot for about a year, when we took the side off it and transitioned him to a Big Boy Bed. (The cheapest one Ikea do - and of which he is insanely proud!)

The mantra to repeat when buying for a baby, is "I do not need it. The shops will be open after the birth. I do not need it. The shops will be open after the birth. I do not need it." and so on! :)

Bubbless · 10/08/2012 14:32

sorry to hear about those with cramp, ive managed to avoid cramp somehow but have AWFUL shin splits which is no fun either!

its been so humid at nights as well- i swear i only got about 4 mins hours sleep last night!!

we only have a few more scans then we are done, arnt we?!

Cookiesandcream06 · 10/08/2012 15:06

How did you get on at swimming stacey ? I took DD this morning was so busy but she had the best time- and I cannot believe how many pregnant woman there were! All with big 'proper' bumps too.

ellie I really feel for you, me and DP have had some rocky times over the past few months but things have been better recently. Talking and spending some 'us' time has helped, although with all the stresses of money, long working hours etc it is a hard time. I really hope things improve, the trip away could be exactly what you need. Are you arguing or just not really talking in general?

daydream i'm jealous of all your maternity buys Envy I am longing for some new clothes I seem to be washing all my things straight away and getting them dry to wear and nothing seems comfy. Am fighting the urge for an ASOS spree but my Topshop card is yet to be paid so I just can't justify it now Sad

NeedlesandPins · 10/08/2012 15:17
