EggsMichelle see my post from yesterday at 15:36 for my opinion on Felix Grin it's never been top 100. I'm a bit worried about the whole cat thing but dp says we can say it's after Felix from James Bond Hmm

blackcurrants · 09/08/2012 18:16

I think Felix is lovely - such a perfect meaning, too! I wanted it for DS but Dh wasn't having it - but it's very unusual here (USA) and I don't know any at home, either.

After talking about Rory, Martin and Peter (family names) and always liking Toby ... I think we're going to end up going for Alexander - having an in-shortenable name myself has always made me want to give my children one with a couple of possible nicknames (Al, Alex) and it's one that I like even when pronounced with a thick nooo joisy accent, which does help! We might change our mind again, of course, but it's the main contender at the moment.

it feels almost shocking typing that out -we keep names secret IRL, but thankfully no-one I know uses MN
[glances over shoulder]
I hope! Grin

I am extremely clumsy when pregnant, Eggs - dropping things, stumbling, and (at the moment) opening the fridge door onto my bump, or thwacking DH with it if I turn around suddenly! You are not alone!

EggsMichelle · 09/08/2012 18:19

Yes, I saw a post that said Felix which caught my eye. We are of the opinion that every name either has a link to some kind of cultural reference, of there are far too many other people with the same name (I can't go far without The Beatles song Michelle My Bell being sang to me!!!).

Plus I can play The Entertainer on the keyboard, so will have to teach my boy to play it too! Grin

EggsMichelle · 09/08/2012 18:24

Blackcurrants Toby and Rory have always been favourites of mine, unfortunately Rory clashes with our last name, and we cant have Toby as I'm a bit obsessed with naming our animals after characters from The Labyrinth, and will look like I'm carrying it on with our children!

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2012 18:25

Ah I love Rory too but dp's surname starts with an R!

HoneyMum21 · 09/08/2012 18:28

Oooh, what's wrong with naming children after characters from labrynth?!! I think that's a great idea Wink

MyDaydream · 09/08/2012 18:39

xmas good to hear your money got sorted so quickly.
Eggs you can't help the top 100 thing, when my mum chose my name is was quite uncommon, but it's pretty much been top 10 since I came along. My DP keeps reassuring me with the popular names thing too, he said when he was growing up he made several friends just because they had his name because he thought it was cool.
I had my rescan today and everything was great, baby was in the perfect position to do all the checks and the lady who scanned me was really nice. Explained everything to us and got a really nice full picture. Left feeling really positive.

HoneyMum21 · 09/08/2012 18:43

Really pleased to had a good scan experience MyDaydream

EggsMichelle · 09/08/2012 18:51

Thats brilliant MyDayDream, glad you had a better experience this time round... was your bladder perfectly filled to the nearest ml?

Honey I currently have animals called Ludo and Hoggle, it would be going to far with a Toby!

HoneyMum21 · 09/08/2012 18:55

hehehe Eggs, you could do a full reenactment...!

Well, Bump has discovered all the fun he can have playing with my bladder today... did someone mention there were 'joys' to this pregnancy thing?!!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 09/08/2012 18:55

mydaydream I'm so glad you had a more positive scan today!

Bubbless · 09/08/2012 18:59

spotty brilliant idea about the olympic bidding
(runs onto ebay during exciting olympics!)

MyDaydream · 09/08/2012 19:00

My bladder was filled perfectly to the nearest ml until 20 minutes past my appointment time when I had to relieve it! Still had 10 more minutes to refill but baby just seemed in a much better place this time, and she only needed to check a couple of details then spent the rest of the time giving me a guided tour of my baby.
Honey I feel your pain, baby has been using mine as a mattress/punchbag since day 1!

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2012 19:13

Excellent news mydaydream my hospital ask for empty bladder apparently. Good job too as I was desperate before my appointment Grin

Bubbless · 09/08/2012 19:53

my hospital like you to be empty too, i got there, dying for a wee..... the toilet was locked (as in, dont use me, not someone in there!)
i thought it was very silly to lock ANY toilet in the maternity section!!

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2012 20:02

Got a Mamas & Papas playmat on eBay for £10 Grin the one I wanted too!

Can really feel the Braxton hicks as I'm sitting here, wonder if they annoying the baby too?!

HoneyMum21 · 09/08/2012 20:03

oooh, well done on the buy Spotty :)

EggsMichelle · 09/08/2012 20:13

What's the weight guide for newborn clothes? I'm thinking I'll wait until nearer the birth to buy NB sizes, hopefully have a better idea of how fat the boy is and whether he goes straight into 0-3m clothes.

Bladders are clearly bouncy castles for the unborn!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2012 20:16

I think it's up to 9lb something but dd was 8lb when born and newborn was big on her for quite a while. Also Mothercare is big in the size, Next has short legs, Tesco has big legs, Sainsbury's are standard as are Debenhams (I found). I think it depends on the shape of your baby though, it's really hard to know until they're born!

MyDaydream · 09/08/2012 20:27

Bubbless that's awful, the ultrasound department at my hospital have so many toilets for you to use it's like they're mocking you about having a full bladder!

Eggs I looked at some Tesco newborn clothes they were about 7.5lbs. We're going to buy a small amount of cheap plain newborn pieces and stick with 0-3. I don't want to waste loads of money on clothes baby could potentially be too big to wear at birth, and I'm sure visitors wouldn't mind nipping into Tesco to pick something up if we got desperate.
Feel like I'm preparing for motherhood already. Had to send DP to bed early because he was snoring on the sofa and he went off in a huff because I told him off, he also told me he's invited his friends round at the weekend to watch cartoons! Play dates and tantrums already.

blackcurrants · 09/08/2012 20:50

DS was 9lb (very long and skinny - soon chubbed out and ooh he was sooo gorgeous...) and I knew he was going to be from quite early (I was 9lb myself, and my siblings were bigger) so I never bought any newborn stuff. I was given a couple of things and they did fit him perfectly for about 2 weeks, then he was in 0-3.

Now, of course, I've washed some on hot, tumbled some, and I have no idea about what size anything is any more! Blush

Even as he was too long for newborn outfits, he was in newborn nappies for ages. He was technically the right weight for the next size up but something about the way newborn nappies were shaped a round the leg meant they leaked the least runny mustardy poo everywhere all the sodding time so we ended up with quite a lot of them! :)

Bellaboo123 · 09/08/2012 21:38

Evening everyone one glad to hear all the lovely scan news and all the fab names!

Haven't checked in for a while as having a really stressful time at work - the woman I work with has been off sick for nearly 5 weeks (read skivving!) and I've been trying to keep things going but it all came to a head yesterday and I ended up in tears Angry colleague sent me to docsto check my BP (all OK) who tried to sign me off for stress but i just can't do that!

Keep rowing with DP this week too - currently not talking and I just feel so pissed off!

Sleeping crap and woke up with the worst cramp in my calf last night - still hurts now! Anyone else suffering this?

Sorry for the rant!!! Blush

On a positive note Wink bump is growing nicely and little one is merrily kicking away.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 09/08/2012 21:45

Bella I got awful cramp when pg with dd. (I was 17 and living at home, went into my dms room at 3am crying in pain, she was very good to me and didn't shout!!) I'd never had cramp before so had no idea what it felt like i felt llike I was being ripped open with a knife! I def feel your pain!

Bellaboo123 · 09/08/2012 21:59

I actually punched DP and screamed as I was in so much pain and that's so not me - I'm just not a drama queen lol!

Hope its not a regular occurrence - a friend said to me "oh the cramps have started" WTF!!! Angry

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 09/08/2012 22:19
