Glad today's scans have gone well.
Just back from scan and everything is good with LO which is a big relief. Only thing is they detected that I have 3 fibroids, bit worried now so will make an appointment to see the consultant tomorrow.

Spotty I was pretty close to fainting when I saw that number - how is it so high?! I got a cot, mattress and sheets from Ikea (all their baby stuff is great and cheap, I really recommend looking at their changing tables, mats etc) which was probably the most I spent at once (about $250) and then I got a 2nd hand pushchair (citi mini - love it) for $200 - and those were the only two 'expensive' things I think we bought.

I found freecycle was great for big bundles of baby clothes (specially as DS wore sleepers/rompers for the first 6-8 months), and got things like bottles and a steriliser when they were on cheapo deals at babies r us or the supermarket. Ebay or Netmums local or the NCT do great 'clearout' type sales where people sell second hand stuff, too. Apart from the carseat and the mattress, nothing needs to be new - babies don't know any different!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/08/2012 18:19

Oh no blackcurrants I have a cot and car seat this is dc2!! I'll post my list in a sec when I get on the laptop!

blackcurrants · 07/08/2012 18:30

blimey, I see what you mean ...
I think our big spends this time will be a 2 seater pushchair of some kind (waiting till the spring to buy that, as we will be carrying him in the Ergo for the first few months - by far DS1's preferred mode of travel, and much easier for running after a toddler/dog, I think!

Oh, and as I'll be at work when DS2 is 3 months old (12 weeks unpaid mat leave over here... bloody barbaric!) I will need a really good breast pump. That will probably be the most expensive thing - with DS1 I worked somewhere that had the hospital-grade pumps in 'lactation rooms' with sofas and fridges and lockable doors and magazines... that was great but I can't expect that again this time, alas!

blackcurrants · 07/08/2012 18:34

as for blankets, muslins, etc, I'm going to have to dig them all out of the loft and give them a good wash. This time around I'll be spending money on all the nappies/maternity pads/ breast pads and stuff, lansinoh - -oh! and Ipad apps to keep DS1 entertained while I'm knackered/breastfeeding, I expect!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 07/08/2012 18:36

Right I feel the need for a list, we already have:

Cot (from previous dcs)
Swinging crib (from friend)
Moses basket (Facebook selling page £20 inc 2 sets of linen)
Travel system (eBay)
Cot blankets/sheets (freecycle)
Change bag (friend)
Sling (Facebook selling page £5 bargain!)
Muslins (friends)
Clothes x 100 if it's a boy x 50 ish if a girl (friends)
Scratch mits/booties/hats (friends)
Breast feeding pillow (my breast friend, freecycle)
Bottles (cheap at Costco)
Bottle warmer (friend)
Steriliser (friend)
Play mat/gym (friend)
Swinging chair with music (Facebook selling page)
Activity centre (friend)
Nappies (some freecycle and buying others when on offer)
Dummies (of the west ham utd variety Hmm
Baby monitor (eBay)
Change mat (posh one with angled sides Grin friend)
Breast pads and maternity pads
Babies first outfit

Still need:

Rain cover for travel system
Cot mattress (although hoping not to need cot until 4-5 months with crib and Moses basket)
bumbo (friend)
Highchair (friend)

Not sure if there's anything else tbh

Feeling a bit better thanks for the concern, tadpole has had a few kicks so trying not to worry. Hopefully I'll get beaten mercilessly later and I will be fully reassured!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/08/2012 18:37

Oh yes blackcurrants your maternity 'leave' is pretty shocking over there. I will get anything I can second hand but I'm not sure what of that list I can get (I would like a nice playmat this time as had a crappy one for dd, found one on Gumtree but have emailed twice and they haven't replied Sad)

SpottyTeacakes · 07/08/2012 18:38

All the muslins from dd went mouldy Blush

Mummycox · 07/08/2012 18:39

C.£1700. We have a Moses basket and bath chair so far.

Feeling rather sick at the prospect.

SpottyTeacakes · 07/08/2012 18:40

Oh I don't have a bath support either! that went mouldy too

emilyeggs · 07/08/2012 18:43

I'm due on the 28th Smile

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 07/08/2012 18:45

Oh I do have a bath support too from mothercare in the sale

Bubbless · 07/08/2012 18:49

when do babies realistically need / go into things like play mats and bouncing chairs?! i didnt think that would be for a while?!!?

SpottyTeacakes · 07/08/2012 18:53

We put dd on her play mat and in her bouncy chair pretty soon, probably a couple of weeks old so not long after we brought her home. I found I could eat my dinner and bounce her bouncy chair with my foot to keep her happy Grin

ivanapoo · 07/08/2012 18:53

Hi everyone, congrats on the scans.

All your lists are scaring me! I'm not buying anything big yet as we're moving house at the end of the month (yay) so want to wait until I'm in there, but I've barely thought about what I really need to get...

So far I've bought 3 muslins and 3 nb size babygros and we've been given a sheepskin little rug thing for baby to lie on. We are likely to be given a cot, a car seat (to use as interim as I want to get extended rear facing one eventually thanks to MN) and I think a pushchair/travel system from relatives who no longer need them. My budget for everything else including nursery furniture, bedding etc I've set at £400. Lucky I'm a bargain hunter!

EggsMichelle · 07/08/2012 18:56

Finally caught up, really has taken all day! Congratulations on all the scan results, lots for team blue. DH was disappointed briefly that ours wasnt a girl, but admitted he would have been disappoint if it was a girl, i think he was hoping for twins!!!

I lost control of my lady garden a long time ago, it's more resembling the Amazon rain forest, DH has offered to pay for a wax which I will have to take up!

Iv got several spread sheets for purchases, but every time I go to buy things I get anxious and leave the shop!!! I managed to buy a snowsuit yesterday, but only with the encouragement of my friend. Also bought some wipes today!

blackcurrants · 07/08/2012 18:56

Bub it depends on the baby. DS was a velcro-chap and really didn't want to be put down but we laid him flat on his back under a play gym/mat thingy (second hand, god where have I put it) for 10-15 minutes each day, so he could do kicking and things like that. Bouncy chairs - from about 4-6 weeks I think I was putting him in there, normally while I was in the shower. I could have just laid him on the floor, of course!

Interestingly, DS was a late crawler (9 months - also about the time he pulled to stand) and was walking at 12 months - he never liked being down on his back (too nosey) and seemed happier 'propped' up in a bouncy chair, and happiest of all in his jumparoo.

However, I read somewhere that if you put your baby in a carseat/bouncy chair/swing a lot of the time and don't leave them on their backs enough, they can take a long time to get confident about rolling and crawling. So.... eh. Make of it what you will :)

blackcurrants · 07/08/2012 19:00

I got a beautiful 0-3 months snowsuit in the Polarn O Pyraet sale a while ago. They do gorgeous, gorgeous insanely expensive outerwear. We get very cold here, -5C is quite usual in the daytime and -10C isn't unheard of in Jan/feb, so we spend a bit more on pricey winter gear. On the upside, between May and Oct DS wears cheapo shorts, t shirts and crocs... so summer's quite a bargain!

Not all of my baby clothes from last time overlap - DS was born in high summer and spent the first couple of months in a nappy (in the house) or a babygro in the park. This time I need winter gear for a tiny baby, and I'm secretly loving buying it :)

mwahmwah · 07/08/2012 19:54

Hubby has booked a night in a swanky hotel next week for us... And it's without kids, I am too excited! 32 years living in Scotland and I've never seen the beauty of glen coe, that's going to change next week Grin its about 3 hours away from us and apparently hauntingly beautiful so something I've always wanted to see. I am thoroughly delighted!

CODwidow · 07/08/2012 20:13

Yep 4!Smile they are now 9,8,6 and almost 4 so all off to school in sept. I really enjoy it, hard work sometimes but the good times are fab Smile

WillYouDoTheFandango · 07/08/2012 20:16

Ooh Mwah get you two popping off for a dirty romantic weekend Grin

Anyone else hyperventilating after reading the lists of what we need and what everyone already has? I have got:

? Cot, Bumbo, bouncer chair (secondhand - auntie)
? 2 first size baby gros
? 2 incredibly cute teeny tiny hats

That is all Confused
