Glad your boss was understanding Hermione - I still havent managed to get the guts to tell mine as him and his wife failed IVF last week so just cant face it! In fact I havent really told many people thinks thats cos I told everyone before then had to explain MC my mum knows and best friend and DH sisters but I havent told my big brother or even dad at mo, will rpob tell them after scan thursday but debaiting if to wait till operation at 12 weeks :(
Am rather jealous of you laying in bed as didnt sleep last night, seem to be getting panic'd about scan on Thursday and its clearly playing on my mind and mostly when I NEED to sleep! Hope you feel better soon though and your scan date comes round super fast :)

sarahs999 · 07/08/2012 11:45

Scan all good! Consultant v happy. Baby999 waving legs and arms around. Cannot yet take it in. Will not properly relax until after the Michael in a couple of weeks, But for now I'm having a little celebratory dance Grin. Had to have a two hour intravenous drip of voodoo milkshake (well that's what it looks like) as part of my treatment - would have been lovely to sleep but I was too hyped up after the scan...

sarahs999 · 07/08/2012 11:46

Michael???? Bloody iPhone! Nuchal!

tedmundo · 07/08/2012 12:00

Yay sarah .. Great news. Will join you in a dance too

hermione .. Lol at your DH being squeamish at the blood. Gawd help him on birth mess!! Glad you are home, your work sound pretty decent!

zoey .. That is tough on your boss and his DW. When do you plan to tell him?

backwardpossom · 07/08/2012 12:15

Best news :) Have a little bean in the right place with a strong heartbeat! :) Could cry with the relief. Am measuring 9+1 so that makes me due on the 11th of March. Delighted! x

pipsicles · 07/08/2012 12:22

Hermione another scan buddy! Yay for 3rd September! It won't seem so far away if we're all doing it together!

Rainbow, thank you for your moving account of your horrible experience. I appreciate your honesty - it is very eye opening for me. I have to admit to being one of those naive mothers first time round, but since my mmc and hearing about a surprising number of still births since then (including Gary and Dawn Barlow's at the weekend), it has really made me appreciate and treasure the miracle of life. I hope things get easier for you with time.

Tiddley I am more than happy to indulge you in the finer details of the Donkey. Although expensive, it has definitely been my best baby purchase by far. Right. Where to start.

Size: as a single, no bigger than anything else out there - the handles are on the outside of the wheels, which makes it feel wider, but it is actually slimmer than my old Phil and teds. The basket on the side is brilliant for putting your changing bag, shopping etc in and loads of people always comment on it! It expands into the double really easily and is apparently the slimmest double on the market. I've used it as a double a couple of times and haven't had any problems getting through shop doors and paths etc, although I'm not absolutely certain it will fit through our new front door, because of the design on the stupid doorway - I haven't brought myself to try it yet!

Folding: unlike the Bee (as I understand), the seat units come off for folding, although they can stay on if you have a nice big place to store them, but I'd suggest not bothering to fold if you have such a big space! We keep ours in the garage all up and ready to go, which works really well for us.

In the Car: this can be the tricky bit. We used to have an Astra and could comfortably get the pram in the boot, but had to take the back (bigger) wheels off (easy peasy) to fit it in, but we always said our boot was rubbish, even before we were trying to fit baby stuff in. When we found out we were expecting earlier in the year, we realised that our trouble would be fitting the carrycot in for the baby and any extra luggage, because we always used the rest of the back seat for long journeys. Queue purchase of bigger family car. We now have a Mondeo (which we love btw) and have plenty of room for everything, even on long journeys with another baby in the car!

Versatility: the reason we switched from a Phil and teds (also a single/double, but a tandem) was because after DS outgrew the little carrycot we bought for it, he had to always be facing outwards, which I absolutely hated. I also felt sorry for a future baby who would never have the luxury of a carrycot and would have to be hidden underneath his/her big brother. The donkey allows them to face in or out, which was a winner for me. Facing you, they can sit upright (very upright, which DS loves!), slightly reclined or fully reclined. Facing outwards, they can sit upright or slightly reclined. As a double, the carrycot and seat unit can be on either side, depending on your mood and when you LO progresses to the seat unit, they can face you whilst your DS faces out, which I think is dead cute! You can also get the maxi cosi car seat adapter if that's the baby seat you have, which fits on really nicely. We have the buggy board too, which in my mind means that it will last us three children...! The handle extends easily and away from the pram, rather than just up or down, which means that it does actually create extra leg room for a tall person to walk, rather than just changing the height of the handle bar (DH and I are both tall, but DM and DMiL are both short!)

Wheels: the wheels are all air filled and it comes with its own on board pump, which is a great little extra! Because they are air filled, they are great on all types of terrain, and the front wheels can swivel, or be locked into position, which is supposed to be best for rough terrain. You're also supposed to be able to alter the position of the wheels for sand and snow, but I haven't been brave enough bothered to try that to date. it's a lovely drive and surprisingly nimble and light, even when loaded up.

Cost(!): brand new, yes, it is the same price as a second hand car, but when I'm not working, it is our main form of transport and is essentially DS's car! We got ours second hand from eBay, which does have its drawbacks; the lady I bought it from wasn't completely honest about its condition and there were a few aesthetic issues, such as scuffed and rusted hubcaps, but this is fine and I have dealt with it. Of course, when buying second hand, you also relinquish the 2 year guarantee, but ours is nearly 18 months old now and we've had no problems at all. I understand bugaboo are pretty good at issuing replacement parts when need too. I did manage to get a few sneaky extras too by buying second hand, such as fleecy bumper bar covers, a little brolly, seat liner, buggy board and car seat adapter.

DH's opinion: it took a little while to convince him it was the right thing for us, and much searching to check that there is nothing else like it (this time last year, at least, there wasn't! I'm pretty sure the whole concept is patented, so you'll be unlikely to ever see anything else like it!) Since getting it though, he thinks it is absolutely the bee's knees and recommends it to anyone and everyone!

Our only gripe (I'm being absolutely honest here!) with it was that there were no safety reflective strips or anything anywhere, but we remedied that by buying some reflective tape and 'blinging' it up! It looks great now! (If you were to do the same, please don't put it on the extendable handle - it makes it too thick to go back down and I now have a piece of reflective tape flapping around inside the workings of my pram!)

I hope I've covered everything, but feel free to ask if you have anymore questions (or DH needs further convincing!) I don't think we live anywhere near each other, otherwise I'd happily meet up and show it to you. I'm in Surrey, or Kent. John Lewis have them and bigger mothercares now too and they are always happy to give a full demo.

Sorry to everyone else for hogging the thread - I've probably taken up an entire page!

zoeymlucas · 07/08/2012 12:24

Woo hoo fab news Sarah and possom so glad your scans went well and you got to see your little beans x x

Not sure when to tell him ted am debaiting before my operation, or a week or so afterwards and just take the operation as holiday time as its all so fresh for them. However he does know I had a Mc in May and was really good but this is different and then he was foucusing on his IVF and where we live you only get 1 go on the NHS. Is there a time I have to tell people? Its hard also as this is DC3 and belly already looks rounded and like I am alot more than I am!

pipsicles · 07/08/2012 12:26

Sorry for massive x post.

Hurray for brilliant scans today! I'm very pleased for you both! Grin

tedmundo · 07/08/2012 12:28

backward .. Oh this is turning into Terrific Tuesday! Congratulations.

We are practically due date buds .. 10th March for me.

sarahs999 · 07/08/2012 12:42

I'm due 12 Mar though I was also measuring 9+1. Will be having an ELCS a couple of weeks before though because of my various issues, but that's yet to be set in stone.

backwardpossom · 07/08/2012 12:50

I'm having an ELCS too, sarah - I asked midwife about this when I booked in and she said they generally take you in on your due date! I was a bit surprised to be honest!!

tiddleypompom · 07/08/2012 13:00

Hooray sarah & possom! Super dooper news, stoked for you both :)

HaitchJay · 07/08/2012 13:08

Yay for scans. :)

I'm an ELCS too. Last time was at 38 weeks due to SPD but usually 39. Will be sterilised too this time :( as its my last :(

dameflamingo · 07/08/2012 13:11

I read but didn't post yesterday so am probably 2 hrs behind in my post - apologies to those who I miss this time, I'll no doubt catch up with you later today.

SCANS congrats to those who have had scan dates through and those who saw their beans! it truly is marvellous to look at the screen and see you baby for the first time.

Mrs R kinder bueno is SO not a Kinder surprise - I would have been most disgruntled if DH had substituted ( por Mr flamingo - he has no life at the moment!)

jojo and those with bacon frazzle/ meat cravings I so empathise. I'm a life long peskytarian yet found myself drawn to the italian meats on DH's pizza.

hermoine glad you had a good MW appointment and that our boss is being so supportive. I imagine your risk assessment will be more interesting than mine!

sundae any update on your cat? mine went for a 'very long adventure' a couple of years ago - he went missing on Halloween and returned at Christmas without a by your leave. I was utterly bereft..and he just returned a bit plump and generally delighted to be home.

sunny I am so sorry that you too witness the disturbing images. I hope you have managed to get them out of your mind.

I'm having a truly happy week - I told my family and it went really really well - thank you for your suggestions and support. I'm feeling a bit brighter in myself, the old mat bra is so much more comfy than my tight old wired thingies and I'm looking forward to the realistic chance of being able to tell work/ friends etc in the not so distant future. Am very impressed with 'what pram' discussions and helpful reviews thanks pipsickles.

TTFN - hope you are all well on this slightly gloomy day x

dameflamingo · 07/08/2012 13:13

p.s stupid sticky keyboard - lots of missing letters in above post!!! its like a post and a word challenge all in one.

Sheldonella · 07/08/2012 13:16

Great news sarah and possom :)

zoeymlucas · 07/08/2012 13:29

I am ELCS as much as I would love a natural birth as last time epidural didnt take so had a general so no one was 'there' when DS2 was born and because of my hospital phybia DH stayed with me to make sure I didnt freak out when I woke up in recovery and then went to special care when I was awake and with it more.
i think mine will be at 36 weeks if I am really lucky to get that far :)

tiddleypompom · 07/08/2012 13:35

Thanks for epic & brilliant review pips. If all goes well at the scan next week I shall commence project 'wear down poor DH' :o

Just marking my place for later!

Lexiindisguise · 07/08/2012 13:46

Great news for happy scans Grin

KFFOREVER · 07/08/2012 14:01

Good news on the scans ladies.

Thereisamumthatnevergoesout · 07/08/2012 14:08

LOL @ shieldbug Most people shorten it to thereis. A bit easier to type!

I am feeling a bit reassured today by the fact that I am not enjoying my morning coffee as much as I usually do. Also went to Tesco just now and had no desire to pick up any chocolate or cake (unheard of for me). Instead had very specific desire for something bready that wasn't bread. Ended up getting a cheese twist which hit the spot completely and utterly.

jojo sorry to hear about the lack of joy re: financial help. I am intending this to be a budget baby. Maternity clothes from ebay, second hand buggy, going to scrounge lots of baby paraphenalia (spelling?) from my Dsis and Dsil who have had babies recently.

LOVE the inifinite monkey cage!

zoey Yes I will be finding out. Did with both the others. Have zero patience. Have you had early baby in the past then? DS was born at 31 weeks!

chefette I am in Cheshire near Altrincham. Where are you? Am sure at our age, they actually medically refer to us as 'geriatric'!

tiddley solemnly promise to not overtake you if it really isn't allowed...

Tay How awful. My DSIL went through same. She has never really got over it. Reading rainbows thread had me blubbing. What a huge gaping hole to be left in your family forever :(

Can I give my ticket to be in the 'you could win twins' raffle to soemone else? MrsRigsby can have it. Twins would have been nice the first or even second time. But third time? My DH would run a mile!

zoeymlucas · 07/08/2012 14:22

LOL I am with you thereis and think twins third time round would be too much - plus I work full time and DH is a stay at home dad so not sure he would be overly happy!
I have an incompetant cervix thereis so will be having a stitch put in at 13 weeks to try and keep this one in as my previous 2 have been born at 28 and 33 weeks. the 28 week was DS1 and got to 6cm at 23 weeks before they stitched and held him in till 28 weeks and with DS 2 they scanned weekly and at 22 weeks I was 3 cm so they stitched then. A ELCS was booked for 36 weeks but due to hip / spd problems they bought it forward to 33 weeks which was good as when they operated I was 3 cm through stitch and had group b step so was luck I wasnt left another week as would of laboured fast as I dilate without knowing most peoples dream I know

HaitchJay · 07/08/2012 14:27

Zoey- I had two underGA after epi didn't take. Third time was really good though with spinal and dh there. I'm another who freaks out in hospital but was ok in recovery as everyone was making a fuss about baby!

kirsty80 · 07/08/2012 14:34

Hey everyone! So happy about scans... But a bit lot jealous! I am 9 weeks tomorrow, but worried today as symptoms are definitely fading. I've felt horrible these past few weeks cramps, boobs and sickness but these past few days nothing. Do you think I should be worried? thisis you're not far from me - I'm in wilmslow are you going to wythenshawe?
