I think this is the first time I've ever started a brooking thread! Shock

hey all, sorry not read back, have had a bit of a morning of it and wanted to share. I had my first appointment with the endo consultant this morning. It was in the Anti Natal clinic, I felt a bit of a fool as I dont even have any notes with me (not booked in with Midwife yet), the women at reception actually asked if I was sure I was pregnant Shock anyway, they sat me in recepton and someone decided that I needed a scan :) so I had a surprise early scan and baby boo is looking very happy at a full 7 weeks old little heatbeat and all! Poor Mr Boo who thought it was just a routine endo thing didn't come with me, so he missed out though :(

Stacks · 17/09/2012 13:46

That's lovely boo, though shame Mr Boo missed out. It's wonderful seeing that heartbeat for the first time.

Stacks · 17/09/2012 13:50

Put up a new bump picture, in case anyone is interested. Everyone was talking about bump size on the Dec thread, so thought I'd take one and share.

Princesslovelyboo · 17/09/2012 13:50

It is lovely, shame for Mr boo though. I have been very emotional today, it seems all very real now I have 'met' baby boo.

whimsicalname · 17/09/2012 14:21

Morning all. Well, it's morning here. Loving the boob chat. I'm a naughty preggo and carry on wearing underwired until about 8m, but up a back and cup size. I know it's not recommended, but I figure I have to wear an awful BFing bra for a year after so I put it off as long as poss.

Particularly naughtily, I still just wear a couple that I had when I was on the pill the best part of a decade ago. That had the same effect as being pg!

Hope you all had a good weekend. We had a local Fall Festival on Sat, which was lovely, then bbq with husband's colleagues on Sun. Would have been lovely if we hadn't been 2 hours late. His fault entirely, but they were cross with us when we got there and I'd never met them before. Diplomacy in action!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/09/2012 16:06

Whims it's fine to wear underwired while pg as long as they're fitted properly. As approved by Bravissimo. I think the underwire thing is a vicious untruth started by M&S who don't understand why any woman would ever want to wear anything other than a nice sensible non wired granny bra.

whimsicalname · 17/09/2012 18:04

That's what I always figured biscuits. I had a v traumatic experience in House of Fraser trying to buy a wonderbra when pg. I thought I would take advantage of having marginally bigger boobs that might actually form a cleavage. The sales person begged to differ. I haven't bought undies there since.

I've just taken DS3 to a lovely nature group in the woods. Tock would have loved it! We were taught about crickets, read a story about crickets, went for a walk (where we saw real deer) and then made cricket rattles. The denouement was taking the crickets back inside and, er, feeding them to a lizard. Still, nature red in tooth and claw and all that.

clickingtock · 17/09/2012 18:22

OOH - yes Whims that sounds right up our alley woodland path. Such beautiful autumns falls out there I imagine. Perfect for small boys - feeding crickets to a reptile... Grin

Meant to tell you all DS is out of nappies aged 2 una half. V pleased with him. Just woke up on Friday and it clicked. One accident admittedly in the carseat which was a PITA but then the seat needed a damn good clean anyway, judging by the year-old foodmuck wedged in the crevices of the plastic moulding bauk. But one accident in 4 full days seems pretty impressive to me. Feel like a parenting success momentarily.

Enjoying the bra chat. You must all do what's best for you knockers surely? Though I do find even MnS don't do any bras without wires these days apart from the hideous maternity ones as referenced by Whims.

Boo - fab news about your early scan and heartbeat. You'll have to forget your notes more often. Smile Please remind me Blush if this is your first or third?

GreenOlives · 17/09/2012 18:26

Lovely news Boo! Grin Shame poor Mr Boo missed it though.
Whims That sounds great, my DS would love to do something like that. We spend lots of time hunting for crickets and rarely finding them despite the deafening noise suggesting there are thousands of them
I am another underwire girl, in fact a friend of mine has found some underwired nursing bras so I shall be shopping for some of them nearer the time!
Waves to all. X

GreenOlives · 17/09/2012 18:32

X-posts tock Well done to DS, that's great going! Potty training is without doubt the most difficult and testing part of parenthood for me so far so I am insanely jealous very pleased to hear that it has gone so smoothly Grin

Princesslovelyboo · 17/09/2012 18:32

Hi tock baby boo will be my 3rd, I have teen boo, toddly boo as well. I didn't forget my notes, I didn't actually have any, not booked in with the mw yet. They have started me some now though.

TheLittleFriend · 17/09/2012 19:29

Hi all
Im in need of advice, sorry to post here as not preg advice, but I'm desperate.

Dd diagnosed with severe tonsillitis this evening. Had awful time trying to get antibiotics in her, ended up pinning her down which I will not do again as it was so traumatic for us both.Sad so how on earth do I get her to take them? She won't even be bribed by choc.

cakes82 · 17/09/2012 19:34

Is it liquid antibiotics and how often do you have to give them?

TheLittleFriend · 17/09/2012 19:39

Hi cakes it's 7.5 ml liquid 4 times a day

cakes82 · 17/09/2012 19:45

Have heard of morning meds given by syringe whilst child is still half asleep. Later meds more difficult tho. Sorry I can't be more help.

TheLittleFriend · 17/09/2012 20:51

I'm not sure she'd ever forgive me if I tried that one! Thanks for responding though. She is just petrified of the syringe, poor thing. Think I might try mixing with small amount of choc milkshake tomorrow to disguise taste and not tell her. Fingers crossed

GreenOlives · 17/09/2012 21:30

Little Its a tough one - poor DD and poor you! I can't help Im afraid, DS was always ok with amoxicillin (yellow/banana flavour) and the first time he had penicillin (orange and foul tasting!) he was about 3.3 so just about old enough to understand why it was so important he had it (we had a long chat after the first 2 doses were spat all over the kitchen!) He was also given 2 giant choc buttons after each dose which also helped Wink Choc milkshake sounds like its worth a try - good luck! Xxx

TheLittleFriend · 17/09/2012 21:54

Thanks green. Smile

whimsicalname · 17/09/2012 22:34

How old is she Little? we had an antibiotic administration problem with DS1 when he was about 3. We made a sticker chart for the fridge, which I think he decorated, and then every day when he'd taken all his doses he got a reward, with a big reward at the end of the course. I think it helped as well to have calculated that '4 doses over 5 days' (or whatever) was 20 lots, and that each one counted towards the end goal - so after 5 we could say 'look, a quarter of the way through' etc.

That said, we have to take my husband when we go for jabs as he has to be restrained. Last lot of flu jabs my middle boy (then 5) bit the nurse. Oh dear.

scarletfingernail · 17/09/2012 23:14

Little you have my sympathies. DS has had severe tonsillitis several times, I know just what you're going through. He's had it so bad we ended up at A&E on a couple of occasions wondering why he was gasping for breath.

Liquid penicillin (the orange coloured stuff) is vile. Even the Drs and pharmacists say so. Why oh why there is no easier option I do not know. We tried everything from pinning him down in a headlock and forcing it in with a syringe, to bribery, to giving up altogether - which is obviously a big no-no once started. The best thing I found was mixing it up with chocolate mousse. I know you're supposed to take it on an empty stomach but it was the only we could get it in him.

Good luck with it. I really hope your DD feels better soon. The last couple of times DS has had tonsillitis we refused the penicillin. It took him an extra day or two before he started to get better but we just managed the raging temperature with Calpol and Nurofen in the meantime.

GreenOlives · 18/09/2012 08:06

Morning! Hope its going better today Little and the choc milkshake for breakfast did the trick. As Scarlet says lots of tonsilitis is viral and will clear up without antibiotics but occasionally it is caused by Strep A bacteria and that will never clear up without penicillin. In fact poor DS ended up with 5 courses of it last Sept and was one step away from having IV abx in hospital! So if you are still struggling to get it in her go back to the doc's as sometimes Erythromycin is worth trying and its not quite as foul tasting! X

TheLittleFriend · 18/09/2012 08:29

Thanks for advice everyone! She just took it! And I'm feeling very proud of us as I tried the 'wait patiently with no toys or tv til she agrees' method. Smile she had a choc after, but I've no problem with that Wink

clickingtock · 18/09/2012 08:57

Well done - Little, sounds v hard but getting her to decide for herself (with a little coercion around tv etc) is deffo the way forward and lots less traumatic for both of you. Hope she gets well soon - it's so painful. Unfortunately the season of mellow snotfullness is upon us. DS has double streaming-green fangs from his nose at the mo'.

Yes Boo - I thought twas no3 for you. You're a pro eh?

Olives - thanks so much. I was quite wound up about toilet training too; just thought he'd never get it, at least not before the new baby and a whole new bottom to nappify (with washables). We have had a few months of talking about it and putting him on the loo first thing/last thing, plus him running around naked at home (when he would recognise the urge and ask to go) but not forcing it during the day when out and about so using pull-ups. Once or twice (prompted by my DMa) we put him in pants when he wasn't ready but that was fairly disastrous and she agreed it wasn't time after I made her scrape sticky poo off tiny underpants haha . Other people have said here that our DCs tend to just decide for themselves when they will do it and this seemed to happen for us (only on Friday so I'm not sure we're entirely out of the woods). Is your DS perhaps not ready or traumatised by his own poos or anything? Most little boys I know seem to be later and more reluctant. Totes agree with you that it's a bigger hurdle compared to getting onto solids etc which all seemed straight forward.

GreenOlives · 18/09/2012 14:28

Tock DS got the hang of wees straight away (but he was almost 3 at that point) It's number 2's which have been the battle! Had countless pooey pants over the last year and he even started withholding poo and ended up on Movicol to stop him from holding it in! Then we seemed to have cracked it for a while and were able to come off the Movicol in May this year - however we have regressed somewhat over the last few weeks (maybe due to starting school?) and now most poos are preceded by skiddy pants as he trys to put off going! I have anguished over this problem so much, worrying about various causes but I now truly believe it is all to do with the time it takes to have a poo! He hates having to come away from whatever he is doing and protests greatly at how looong it takes! And this is from a boy who seems to poo at lightening speed!! DH and I often wonder at what age it is that a nice relax on the toilet with a book becomes a luxury instead of a chore Wink For now I just have to console myself with the thought that it won't be forever! Sorry for the thread hijack and poo talk ladies!

clickingtock · 18/09/2012 16:30

Olives - how frustrating/worrying for you. I think you've nailed it about time and not wanting to stop what he is doing or getting distracted. LOL about luxury poos. My big bros seemed to spend hours on the bog. I was always far more straight forward about it all. DS seems ok about it but his poos are quite regular - first thing and late afternoon so perhaps that's a help. I'm sure there will be a few steps forward and one or two back so don't take my boast about it all too seriously! Still he made it through creche this morning with no accidents so that's another achievement - ie, mummy wasn't there to watch him like a hawk.

Back to pg. What's everyone's news? Just started to get a few pg symptoms - twingey back, slightly trapped nerve feeling. But not bad going really, given I'm well over half way. I know I should be swimming but I'm now working 50% and with DS the rest of the time. Woe is me. (Though quite relieved to have some work and an excuse to hand DS over to a childminder or creche half the working week - bad mother.) Shock
